    Trust me Josh, I have wide feet. I tried on a pair of vapor 9's one time and my foot looked like a fat girl on prom night

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  7 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      That depends a lot on the specific shape of your foot as well as the width. Not every shoe is going to fit you perfectly.

    • @maxbucht6831
      @maxbucht6831 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Have you tried a New insole? That plays a huge difference, for me at least. This is because it keeps the foot higher and in a shape and not just floating around which makes it wider.

    • @juanito6012
      @juanito6012 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Max Bucht yes, but I cannot wear thin insoles. I take the insoles from my previous tiempo legends that have the poron inserts because I prefer a more cushioned insole. It's a more chunky insole so I know that plays into effect somewhat with the overall fit.

      Juan Mendoza big up Juan

    • @williamnettleton3413
      @williamnettleton3413 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Juan Mendoza okay that doesn't mean anything. If you wear the x, nemeziz, magista, hypervenom, or tiempo. You dont have wide feet. All nike stud plate shapes are exactly the same, each one. The tiempo and vapor have the same shape and shape of the stud plate on the bottom. Only the material is different shaped. Their is a difference between a wide toe box, wide mid foot, flat feet, fat foot, skinny foot. Just cuz you have fat feet doesnt mean its wide. If you can wear vans, chucks, pf flyers, any nike running shoe you don't have wide feet. Running shoes are 1/2 sized big because no lateral movements, only one direction, and foot swelling factor that's it. If some shoes don't fit for soccer, ace line is best for adidas and tiempo for nike for the stretch in the mid foot

    It's so true! For example the vapor (the shallowest boot out there) gives me a bit of folding because my feet don't fill out the shoe. BUT the tiempo fits snug and my foot fills out the whole boot! So this video is actually relatable

  • @derbyyank13
    @derbyyank13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for this! I worked for 10 years in soccer retail as a footwear manager and it was unbelievable the the amount of people who were convinced had wide feet. And then some people who actually had wide feet would want boots like Vapors and Superflys.
    It would be amazing see one day what boots would actually sell if people got shoes that fit them!
    Lastly, Josh you content has become better and better over time and the channel is great these days!

    • @derbyyank13
      @derbyyank13 6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @00cho

    I used to buy snug cleats because i was taught to by coaches. The sides would always blow out. Even on the leather cleats. At some point I realized that the pressure my foot was putting on the inside of the shoes was causing the blowouts. When I found New Balance 4E cleats (now discontinued), it was a sea change for me. I was able to drop a half to a full size because my foot had room in the toe box.The difference in comfort and performance was remarkable. My feet stopped hurting and blistering. I could run faster because there was less pain. So for me the advice to get a snug fit was completely wrong. The foot gage commonly used in stores can measure width, but it must be measured with your full weight on the foot, so your toes spread. Letting your toes spread naturally is key because it allows your foot to support you like it was meant to. Squeezing you toes together in a snug shoe gives you a unnaturally narrow foundation to stand on, and can reduce performance overall. Examine the feet of people who live barefoot, You will see a wide forefoot with all straight toes instead of the outer toes being curled toward the center. This is the price we pay for wearing shoes..
    Still looking for a replacement for the New Balance 4E cleats. If anyone knows of some, please speak up.

    The problem with me is that my foot is very flat and has no arch, so when I wear "narrower" boots, my foot forces the upper to stretch or squeeze out a little and folds occur near the last lace holes of the boots.

    How about specifying how to determine if you have wide feet ? I actually have some Tiempo 5s and the tongue bulges out so much that you can see my socks on the left and right of it. Granted they are probably a half size too small even though I sized up 1/2 a size when I bought them. Leather Predators never gave me an issue.

  • @Falasteeny
    @Falasteeny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Hey Josh, odd question that I think you may be able to help me out with. So I'm a size 11 US in most cleats/boots. Vapors and Hypervenoms I'm size 11. Magista Opus and Puma evoPower I'm size 11.5 (I'm talking no space in the toe-box, perfect fit, snug no dead space). But when I've tried the newer adidas models like the adidas Ace 17.1 leather or even a little older in the adidas X 15+ Primeknit and Messi 16.1, I've had to go down to a size 10.5.
    Now could you tell me why that is? In older models (11pro, Predator LZ 2, Predator Instinct, adiPure 3) size 11 was perfect for me then. Again, I'm talking no dead-space, snug, my toes fully fitting the toe-box, etc. I don't have wide feet, my feet aren't narrow or skinny/long, the only difference that I can tell from others that I know is that my foot-shape is an Egyptian-type shape (big toe longest and toes following get shorter and shorter in comparison). I also have a gap in between my big toe and my index toe).
    Again, do you know why the sizing has drastically changed in adidas sizes? I've heard that size 10.5 to 11.5 for adidas boots have always been funky as far as correct sizing goes. On top of that, I've compared sprint-frames in each of my boots that do have sprint-frame in the alleged same size (size 11) and some of the sprint-frames do not line-up with the others (Studs aren't symmetrical with the boots I'm comparing between, one sprint-frame too long in comparison to the other, one too short, you get the idea).
    Sorry if this question was way too long or if you're just unable to answer, I know it's very complicated. I'd be interested in knowing if others have had this same issue with adidas models too.

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey Josh! I have been watched your videos for years know and I have started to play tennis recently (football is still my main sport though!). Would you say that because the quick movement required to play tennis is similar to that of playing football, all of your fitting advice could also be said about tennis shoes? Therefore, should I also buy a tennis shoe with a tight fit and no extra space, if that is my preferred fit for football boots too?

    I try loads of size 9.5's on, which is my original shoe size, and They feel too tight on the little toes, mostly on my bigger foot. I go up to 10's and they are comfortable but usually there more room at the end and it's quite loose, resulting in the boots coming loose during the game. What do you recommend? I have some size 10 tiempo's, which apparently run half a size smaller, and they are comfy apart from it being a little tight around my little toes on my bigger foot. The 9.5's were ridiculously tight around my little toes and hurt for the whole of training. Should I try to wear in my tiempo academy's in the hope that they will stretch or, should I get another pair that are wider in the toe box? I tried copa's and they were a good fit although I wanted some artificial ground boots. The Phantom's are nice although the I have the same problem. The size 9.5's feel tight around the little toes on my bigger foot and the size 10's feel too loose. Same with the Puma future 18.3's. I was thinking of trying the Puma Future 2.2's in the 9.5's as they are my original size but I don't know. Please help! I have having a nightmare and am very confused as to what I should buy. It seems I can't decide on what fit boot I should get, no matter how many I try on. Could you help, please?

    Props here. I don't have wide feet but usually wear Merrell's and Keens for regular. I picked up some Puma EvoVigors and, while they're SUPER snug, I think they might adapt to my foot. All this said, the industry needs to stop acting like everyone is a rail, JMHO.

    if you have wide feet, go for Mizuno or New Balance. as far as I know only these two companies make wide football boots. never size up in order to get wider width as there will be too much slack at the front which will affect your gait.

    I know this is a late comment but in trainers I am size 5 and I got size 6 in superfly 5s and it didn’t feel right would it fit better if I used it for a couple of days to expand it or put it back and get another pair?

    I calculated I have wide feet 11cm (I think they're even flat) but I don't want to buy leather shoes. Magista is what fits me the best. I tried hypervenom. I thought they would have been comfortable but they're not. At the same price point even Mercurial fitted me better. I would have never guess so.

    Hey Josh! Can you make a video about foot toes shapes. Reason why: I noticed you have the "greek" type of foot, and as most boots shapes are "pointy" you seem to fit "true to size" perfectly. On my side I have "egyptian" type with a big big toe (bigtoe big, yes), and I always need to go 1/2 more to true-to-size for football boots whereas I'm always true-to-size for sneakers (Adidas, Nike, etc). I tried, Copa 19.1, Phantom Vision, Nemezis 19.1, Predator 18.1, same thing everywhere. That's seem to be because football boots are "pointy" and narrow. That's a problem because my feet are rather narrow, and in +1/2 to true to size I may slide on side of shoes more easily. So if this issue could be adressed because more people have "egyptian" feet than other shapes.

    Its REALLY hard for me to find new cleats because GIANT feet run in my family... I personally have a really thin heel but a HUGE mid-foot and its the BIGGEST PAIN TO FIND GOOD FITTING CLEATS...(I have wide feet josh...I have wide feet...I feel like youre saying something like we are all the same foot when it comes to cleats but wide and thin feet are real and I feel like absolutely nobody's gonna read this but my point remains bro).

    I bought a superfly 5 in my size, and I can't wear them. The midfoot is too narrow as the nike soleplate puts a lot of pressure on the outside of my foot. So they're unwearable. So I bought Obra 2s in my size again. And the same issue, just less. My foot is too wide for the Nike soleplate as it puts a lot of pressure on my foot since it sinks in. So I can't wear my Nike cleats.

    all boots are a sized to the "D" width last unless a "wide version is made. If you have had your feet measured and have wide feet then the last which is used to accommodate your feet starts from "2E".
    josh is completely right in saying leather boots will have more give than synthetic boots. a "d'' last boot leather will still feel tighter than a "2E'" last boot after moulding to your feet.
    the mizuno morelia is a "D" width last and the asics ds light X-fly are a "E'" last. the asics are more comfy for my feet when playing.

    this guy speaks a lot of truth. I always thought I had really wide feet so bought shoes accordingly. Then I went to get my foot actually measured and it turns out my feet are pretty normal width! It was just my not liking tight shoes.

    • @orbit6663
      @orbit6663 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      diulikadikaday Same here. I actually thought I have wide feet. I was very sceptical on what boots to buy. I bought a pair of Hypervenom Phelon 3s going by Josh's recommendation and they fit pretty well. After watching this video I actually measured by feet and realised my feet are actually particularly narrow and based on that I'm actually gonna buy a pair of Vapors.
      I also realized socks can make your feet look a little narrower because it kinda blocks the loose skin from spreading when you put all you weight on your feet, making them look rather wide.

    It's not even that all cleats I've ever tried feel uncomfortable, it's that I split the sides of them very quickly AND I've always had to play with 1 1/2 to 2 inches of empty space at the point of the boot. Great for defense, horrible for the power of my shot.

  • @LuisCMS31
    @LuisCMS31 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Josh do you still agree that thin feet are existent? As I went to the Nike store and only the hypervenom line left way too much room in the tie box and wasn't tight at all. Are there any tight synthetic boots you'd recommend that isn't the, vapor, superfly, purechaos, nemesis?

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can definitely have narrow feet, but again, most people who feel like the boots they try on are too wide are wearing the wrong size. With proper sizing, most boots will fit most people.

    I agree that everbody has a different footshape, which has nothing to do with wide and narrow feet. I personally never had issues fitting in my boots in the midfoot and verklärtes. With that being said, I often have issues with the toebox area. That's because my big toe is not the biggest toe of my foot. Sometimes the boots hurt me that much that I get black nails and sometimes there is too much space left. Because of that, I am a big fan of football boots that just feature leather on the forefoot (Mizuno Basara, Leather f50s...).They give me just that little bit of custom fit in the toebox area while still feeling nice and secure

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly the point of this video. You've tried different shoes, analyzed your feet, what you like and what you dislike and now know exactly what style of shoe works for you the best.

  • @christiana3052
    @christiana3052 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I typically wear a vapor 11 and have a pretty low profile foot while the length and width is perfect. So the one piece upper doesn't crinkle up I just stacked sock liners on top of each other. I was wondering if there was a special soccer sock lined insert I could use for my low profile foot to avoid having me stack them because they can feel a bit off sometimes

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you would want to stack or put anything on top of your foot. That would complicate things when it comes to feel and touch, especially in such a thin shoe.

      I feel like the same advice in this video applies to narrow feet as well. Most of the time when the boots are too wide, it's an issue with the size being too big rather than the feet being too narrow for the boots.

    I recently got my foot measured. Right fit size 9 wide. Left is 8.5 regular. My cleats tend to me slightly longer in the toe box specifically the last 3 toes have a lot of room while the mid foot is always tight. Should I start buying 8.5 wide cleats to fit for the extra space and to ensure snug fit even though my left foot might be roomy because it is a regular?

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to accommodate the bigger foot. It wouldn't be a great idea to jam your bigger foot in a boot that is too small, it just wouldn't be comfortable and could potentially cause injury. That's not to say that you couldn't get away with it if you found boots that fit you just right. The only way to really find out would be to got to a store and try on as many different cleats as you can, in different sizes, to see what fits and feels the best.
