I have a hero. And I miss him so. You see he is in a home for dementia. We have been married for 60 years. So hold onto your hero tightly and love him dearly. ❤❤❤❤ps so enjoy your show. Glo
Friends - I've gotten LOTS of comments about this, so let me just say this up front. The stuff I was 'tossing' isn't going in the trash - it's going into a destash box that I will pay forward to someone that can/will use it. These are items I know I'm never going to use, so I figured now would be a GREAT time to pay them forward to someone else.
I am so glad I found this video again. ❤ it was my 1st video being introduced to Becca. I've been hooked and loved every one since. Going the chemo and radiation Becca was a wonderful blessing to listen to. Thank you Becca so much. I am grateful.
I moved to a condo two years ago. I still have to paint my bedroom a different color. I have four target metal shelves which I can stack fabrics etc on. I finally getting organized in my living room, Handi Quilter Sweet 16 sit down machine. Two more Target metal shelves for my fabrics. I will prime and paint soon. A soft lime green. It is now a deep blue , too dark for me. I will get my items out of the containers then. I can decide what to keep also then.
The Framed Stars Quilt looks gorgeous! The colors you used, the white thread for the quilting is perfect as is the design. Thank you for showing us beginners and all quilters alike that it's okay to try something new, make mistakes, laugh at the process and ourselves and ultimately love what we do.
When my son ran the wiring for me in my shed/studio, I told him I did not want to be crawling around the floor behind machines to plug things in. So he took the level he had which was about 4 feet tall walked around the room and use that height to install my outlets. Most of them would be just over table height and readily available.
This just popped up. I'll tell you that when I did my shelves I was very overwhelmed and ran out of shelving. I did go to the extreme of measuring the fabrics before wrapping around the magazine boards and labeling the plastic bags everything is in. Construction and animals helped with the extra work lol
Becca, Thank you. I am enjoying "being" with you. I always watch you on TH-cam so I never comment. This time I wanted you let you and thank you for the company while I quilt!!!
hahahaha! you just unboxed a large glass “jar” with cork lid…..you didn’t know what you were going to do with it…..it was a cookie jar years ago for us, then is became something to collect pennies in, now its just on display on the shelf under our living room end table! lol. It’s fun watching your video from 2 years ago. Also the wall paint is the same color of my sewing room when we were in Virginia. I love it! WOW! You and your sister - I would have thought you were twins from the photos!! I love to organize things, it’s so fun watching how others organize their sewing spaces. Your space turned out so beautiful in today’s videos and it’s fun seeing what you started with.
So pleased for you Becca x I know you will make this area beautiful and I will be very envious x You so deserve this and looking forward to your new video’s xx
My studio was going to be the family room. We put up 3 fixtures with 4 fluorescent bulbs each. We also installed a 4 gang outlet at each end. There is a main on/off switch at the door. Also each light is switched, so a big 3-way system. I love being able to plug my iron into the ceiling. My ironing surface is perpendicular to the walls. You're studio will be great!! And you can setup for your TH-cam broadcasts from the start.
A 20 x 20 space! I am SO JEALOUS!! I have a 10 x 12 which holds all my stash totes and my midarm machine. I end up piecing most of the time in the dining room. Plans for building a new home in a couple years so will really planning my sewing space most carefully. You are my inspiration. :)
Love you, Becca! You are so awesome! I’m slowly doing the same thing in my basement but I’m disabled and I watch my grandkids. Maybe in 5 years I’ll have more done… lol
oh Becca! Congratulations! Your new space is wonderful! I can't wait to see it when you are finished organizing and unpacking. I'm so happy for you. You work so hard and you deserve it.
I have a couple more days to do some unpacking & organizing...and then I leave to get my mom! I'm really hoping to have the shelves in shape before I go.
Becca you will love the mini split. I have a 3 bed double wide mobile home. My AC died and I chose a mini split. It is really great on the utility bill. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I realize this video is from 2 years ago, but I have just taken an interest in quilting. With that being said, I am realizing this is a very overwhelming task. Thank god for TH-cam and people like you. I've been scouring TH-cam and I must say, I'm definitely learning a lot. I was lucky to happen upon an Estate Sale where the home owner was an avid Quilter, Embroiderer, & Crafter. I was able to purchase a lot of supplies. My problem was, being a newbie, I really wasn't sure what I really needed to be buying, so VERY overwhelming. At the same time, I didn't want to pass up any good deals because I've come to realize how expensive Quilting can be. So I have thousands of questions. I'm a retired widow, living on a set income, so I guess my first question would be about purchasing supplies, especially fabric. What would be your suggestions for purchasing quilting fabrics? I think there are only 2 quilting shops within a 50 mile radius from me, as well as a JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby where I am able to purchase fabric, that is it, besides Walmart which only carries pre-cut fabric now. Do you have, like specific internet places to shop, cause that too can be overwhelming? I'm really not familiar enough with fabric to know about the quality, especially over the internet? 2nd, Are your shelves IKEA? 3rd, I saw as you were unboxing, you pulled out some AccuQuilt dies. I've also been looking at some TH-cam videos by AccuQuilt and considering investing in a die cutter. I know this is an expensive investment, but I'm worried about my cutting accurately capabilities. What advice would you have about that? I really appreciate ANY advice you might have! I have really enjoyed watching your videos since I discovered your site and look forward to watching many more. Have so many more questions, but don't want to overwhelm you or myself. lol
Hi Eva- welcome to the wonderful world of quilting and making. I’m still relatively new too. Becca’s shelves are Billy bookcases from IKEA. Aren’t they gorgeous!! One thing I highly recommend is taking some “small project” classes to learn the basics. The quilt shops in your area may have classes but there also maybe some at your local senior center or at the community college. The reason I recommend small projects is because trying to tackle a whole quilt as your first project is rather daunting. Plus you will start making connections in your area with other people who enjoy quilting and sewing. You will have an instructor who can answer specific questions that you have and make recommendations. All the best to you - enjoy!
This was great! Watching it Saturday night at midnight lol. So glad you had some extra help from Parker. I need to get my room in order but I have a small space so I have to think it thru first.
I’m finishing everything I have started since I began quilting (2001). I made the decision to finish everything I’ve started so I can see how far I’ve come technically. My husband thinks that one of my first tops which is technically a disaster is on of my best. All he sees is the fabric choices and the design. What I’m saying is finish your early stuff so you can see how far you’ve come.
Hello this is my first time seeing your channel. I watch Tiffaney quilting life. Low your studio. we are planning a garage conversion for my sewing room I have out gowned my 9 x 12 bedroom.
Nice job on the de-stash, Becca! I enjoyed watching this over the last week while having my morning coffee. You've inspired me to spend some time on organizing my stash. :) Perhaps put your thimble collection in that pretty glass jar, so you/we can see them. I hope that the electrician pays a visit soon so that you can fully set up. Cheers to you new studio!
I'm so glad! I love spending time organizing...I hope you got a good bit done, too! Electrician has been hard at work this week - hoping that means I'll get to move in soon!
Wow ~ I just sat here and watched your whole video!!! I’m just getting over COVID so I haven’t sewn in about 2-weeks. I’m much better but a little weak because my body tends to reject food. Either way, I have to make myself eat something. Love all the work you have accomplished! Congratulations 🥰💜👏🏼
Hi found your site ☺️ ☺️, watch Tiffany and talks about you. Love your studio wish I had a big room to see all my fabrics. One day I will have a room to sew
I forgot soooo now I’m looking at the replay . I went into my crafts/ junk room and pulled out 3 tubs that were in the closet…………..they are ALL full of material of some kind !! That’s not counting what I have bought in the last couple months !!!🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️, what am I going to do with all this !😱😱😱 I am enjoying this so much so far !! Maybe I can get ideas from you and learn to quilt someway .
If you can't picture yourself using it - then pay it forward and make space for something that you WILL use! If you can picture yourself using it, pull it off the shelf and use it!
As I have gotten older. My knees are getting worse. I use a wheeling horse saddle chair when I long arm. I have tile on my sewing studio floor. It rows the width of my long arm. You may eventually need the use of a chair to long arm. I think there are plastic glass sturdy desk and floor mats you can look into to put over the carpet to run long arm on a chair. I hope you blind your windows due to sunlight and fabric not working well together. Good luck on your set up. I am going to have a cutting table with bolt storage under neath it so I can avoid clearing my main table to cut bolt fabric. I also purchase my batting two bolts at a time. I have a room adjacent to my studio as a batting room. They are hung on the wall. Saves Money to buy by bulk
I'm packing my yarn and fabric to move. I'm overwhelmed and don't have nearly the amount of fabric you do!! But I'm disabled so it's been tough going. Love your wall!!
@@sewbecca that would be nice! The ones I had offered to pay never showed. And my daughter said she didn't have time even tho she was off 11 days during the holidays. My area will be in my bedroom which is only 9'7"x11'10"
You are giving me great ideas to get organized with the comic boards. I am new so I really don't have yardage yet, maybe 1-2. Mostly I have 5" and fat quarters. I hope to be able to get jelly rolls and yardage soon. Confused about how much yardage to get unless there is a specific project.
My rule of thumb is if I find a print I like, I'll get a yard of it (a yard goes a long way in quilting). if I *REALLY* love it, I'll get 2 yards. And if it's something that I know I want to use as a background or a backing, I'll get 4-5 yards.
It’s been fun unpacking with you. Maybe it will give me the boot I need to finish unboxing the rest of my boxes.😀. After all I have only been here for four years ……,,
I think it was a smart decision to move the outlets up over the shelving. If you cut them into the middle of your shelving, you would lose that space in front of the outlet. You obviously put a great deal of thought to the layout, but you have designed the space in a way to be somewhat flexible. Great job!
I've put a lot of time into thinking this space through. The furniture will likely always stay in the same place, and the space will get 'face lifts' through updating different pieces of furniture and decor over the years. :)
Fill your glass pumpkin with healthy snacks and leave it out on one of your shelves. Or put it at the very top of the shelf, then it would be harder to reach. Lol👍
My sister and I were 3.5 yrs apart one yr our school pictures came home and we were wearing the same dress . My dress that she was not to wear but did and got cought.
No fading. But, keep in mind my house is built in the woods - and not positioned in a way that I get direct sunlight in my room. Additionally, the fabric on my shelves is all straight from the bolt and not pre-washed. I’ve heard fabric manufacturers treat bolts of fabric with chemicals to resist fading so that it stays vibrant on quilt shop shelves. :)
Wow Becca you kicked butt knocked it out love you sewing studio I would love to have just a fraction of your fabric how long has it took you to get where you are now?
I’m watching this and heard you mention where your parents were from and I use to live 30 minutes from there…. Use to go to Bristol VA and Tenn all the time. I’m originally from Chilhowie, VA but have been living in NC for over 30 years!!!! I just had to txt cuz many people don’t know where that is….😊
Just be aware natural or not, constant light on things, Will, cause fading. So if you have curtains, do block-outs and make excuses/good reasons for changing your displays often to change which ones are fading. Then close up and turn off if you are out of there? The more abric you put on theshelves, the prettier your room looks. Are you putting your batting and backings on the shelves, down at the long-arm end of the room? You can put a barbecue area/hot tub, in your car-port, seating and a table, for gatherings, and have one or 2 extra bays for visiting cars, once you have finished moving in, setting up and saved up some more money? You could even park your cars outside to have bigger gatherings in the car-port? Wood fired pizza-ovens outside or providing warmth inside, are popular in australia. I don't know if you have them in america, my sister found a sturdy step ladder with big square steps and a fold out bucket holder at the top from the Gorilla brand, hard narrow steps are not comfortable for long.
Did you say softener sheets keep pest away from fabric? I kept trying to go back but couldn’t find it. I have binged watched your show pretty much half of my day 🙂. Got to run to the store and the quilt store too😘before weather gets bad. Great shows!
Yeap. And we were already seeing that within a week or so of us living here. The garage fit one car and a bunch of 'stuff'. So, why not make it something more useful!
Just curious if the shelves for fabric will be facing the window? If yes, will you be covering the shelves to prevent the fabric from fading. My shelves face a window in Florida and I am looking for solution.
Hi Laura - Yes, the shelves will be facing a window. The light coming in will be indirect sunlight, but just to be safe I'm going to put a UV film on the actual glass to help block those harmful UV rays. :) Here's a link to the film I'll be purchasing: amzn.to/3tAF0FJ
That's a lovely idea - we do have an electric space heater we're using right now. I'm trying to not buy anything else since the mini split is SUPPOSED to be installed on Tuesday (we'll see if that happens). If I had all my equipment out there and was able to start sewing in the studio, might be a different story. But - electrical isn't fully working yet. :(
I need to organize sewing rooms at two homes! Where does one start? Should I just pack everything in boxes and haul out of the room and start with an empty space? Also, where did you get your shelving?
My shelves are the 93 1/4" Billy Bookcases from Ikea - I have 7 of them on this wall, each measuring 31.5" wide. :) For me, I just started by unpacking and putting everything on the shelf so I can visually see it. Then (probably Sunday afternoon), I'll start trying to arrange it to look the way I want it. Step 1 is get it out of the boxes, step 2 is to put it away properly. :)
I have a hero. And I miss him so. You see he is in a home for dementia. We have been married for 60 years. So hold onto your hero tightly and love him dearly. ❤❤❤❤ps so enjoy your show. Glo

I can always use some of your castoffs, I am on a fixed income and am struggling right now to find enough to do anything with.
You have as much room as some of those tiny homes do! You are blessed indeed!
OMG P.J.s 😂 best quilting attire ❤

A beautiful color paint. Love the white shelves. Nice contrast.
Omg- those sticky rollers are life changing!

Love you, Becca! You are so awesome! I’m slowly doing the same thing in my basement but I’m disabled and I watch my grandkids. Maybe in 5 years I’ll have more done… lol
I'm so lucky to have a partner that helps me out a ton. If it weren't for Jason, I wouldn't be nearly as far along as I am. :)
Your beautiful, don't worry about how you look! You're real & honest & I love your videos!!!
Awww, thank you!!!
Just found your channel. I love organizing and so fun to watch you open boxes and make decisions!! Love this!

Thank you so much!
Congrats on your new sewing space! Looks beautiful. I love organizing and looking at fabric so this would be fun for me.
More to come, soon!
I agree, love hanging out. Thanks
It is coming together! And what a nice helper Parker was!
Indeed!
We are laughing at your first quilt! I am doing my first quilt right now and I feel better!
I'm glad - everyone's first quilt is off a bit. It's just something that you get better at over time!
I am in the uk and am waiting for bedroom / sewing room . IKEA have some brilliant ideas and am enjoying watching you
I’m so happy for you, Becca! {watching the replay while sewing~thanks for the company} 🥰
I'm glad you caught the replay!
Me too! The IKEA shelves are great! I have 11 of the same!! (Started with 4 and keep adding to the row!) lol
oh Becca! Congratulations! Your new space is wonderful! I can't wait to see it when you are finished organizing and unpacking. I'm so happy for you. You work so hard and you deserve it.

Becca you will love the mini split. I have a 3 bed double wide mobile home. My AC died and I chose a mini split. It is really great on the utility bill. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I can't wait to get it installed!
Becca. I love watching your videos.
Oh thank you!
Love the colors on the walls and the way you are setting up everything 💝
Thank you! 🤗
I may have to take some of your ideas for my sewing room too! Thank you for posting.
Quite welcome!!

I would love your throw away scraps and sew in
I really love the white shelves up against the blue wall such a nice blue 👍👏🥰🌸💙💙🇦🇺
I love the contrast!!
Love the wall color! The white shelves look really nice with that color.
I was hoping for that!
Just started watching, good luck with unpacking all your goodies. I will enjoy seeing what all you have in there!! Go get em!

Oh Diana - I hope you're on the mend and back at your sewing machine very soon! hugs girl - covid is a beast!!
Was wondering if you discussed how you organize your patterns? Thanks and congratulations on your new home and sewing room!
It’ll be in an upcoming video! I have a binder system that I LOVE
Becca they make a beautiful glass and wood case you can hang on the wall or put on a shelf just for thimbles. If that appeals to you.
I love that idea

I love that! I've not done a long livestream in a while...maybe it's time to do another soon!

Fill your glass pumpkin with healthy snacks and leave it out on one of your shelves. Or put it at the very top of the shelf, then it would be harder to reach. Lol👍
Congratulations on the new studio!! Man I wish we were neighbors. I could sew forever from your destash! You pick out such beautiful fabrics.
Aww, thank you! :)
I put the outlet for my longarm in the ceiling. It works great 💜
Stephanie did the same thing!
My sister and I were 3.5 yrs apart one yr our school pictures came home and we were wearing the same dress . My dress that she was not to wear but did and got cought.
I love organizing too. I’m leery of putting fabric on open shelves. It’s been a year now, have you noticed any fading on the exposed edges?
Oh my goodness, I laughed when you pulled out the bathing suits! 😂
I have no clue how moms bathing suits ended up in those boxes LOL
Wow Becca you kicked butt knocked it out love you sewing studio I would love to have just a fraction of your fabric how long has it took you to get where you are now?
I’m watching this and heard you mention where your parents were from and I use to live 30 minutes from there…. Use to go to Bristol VA and Tenn all the time. I’m originally from Chilhowie, VA but have been living in NC for over 30 years!!!!
I just had to txt cuz many people don’t know where that is….😊
Well hello there! Small world, huh?
Congrats to you!!!
I love your shirt 😍
Thank you! I designed it - you can find it here: sewbecca.myspreadshop.com
❤ the color you chose!!
Thank you!!
You can add a gradge or car port. Less than building a roo. Love your space.
Very true!
Put dog ears and snippets in that big glass jar! They are so pretty on a shelf!
That's a lovely idea!!
Good job so far..awesome.
Thank you so much 😀
Command hangers may be something you might want to invest in….they’re easy on the wall and could hold some stuff .
I love them!
Love your shelves
LOL! You are having a day with the camera and computer! LOL
Hey… guess what… I’m watching you in my pajamas! It’s 1:30pm. I’ve washed my face, but that’s it! You are fine!
Haha! I've had a couple of comments in the past about being on TH-cam in pajamas. ;)
You need a cute mini rolling library ladder painted the same blue as your wall.
Oops, sorry, someone beat me to that on Live.
Haha! Jason was saying the same thing. :)
Did you say softener sheets keep pest away from fabric? I kept trying to go back but couldn’t find it. I have binged watched your show pretty much half of my day 🙂. Got to run to the store and the quilt store too😘before weather gets bad. Great shows!
Yes it does! Or...at least, that's what I found!
@@sewbecca awesome !
SMART….think of function and reality 4 future needs!!!
Your t shirt is nice. Love the noun.
Thank you!
That is exactly what I was thinking. People have maybe, maybe one car in their garage. And they can barely open their doors to unpack groceries.
Yeap. And we were already seeing that within a week or so of us living here. The garage fit one car and a bunch of 'stuff'. So, why not make it something more useful!
It really is like Christmas.
Were your beautiful shelves custom built or purchases?
Just curious if the shelves for fabric will be facing the window? If yes, will you be covering the shelves to prevent the fabric from fading. My shelves face a window in Florida and I am looking for solution.
Hi Laura - Yes, the shelves will be facing a window. The light coming in will be indirect sunlight, but just to be safe I'm going to put a UV film on the actual glass to help block those harmful UV rays. :)
Here's a link to the film I'll be purchasing: amzn.to/3tAF0FJ
I have MS & fall a LOT!
I just LOVE YOU !
Awww, thank you! That means so much to me!
Just a plug in heater... Try a oil filled radiatoring heater. They are great.
For me, I just started by unpacking and putting everything on the shelf so I can visually see it. Then (probably Sunday afternoon), I'll start trying to arrange it to look the way I want it. Step 1 is get it out of the boxes, step 2 is to put it away properly. :)
