Folding fabric on card stock is not everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love this method. Please share in the comments your favorite way to keep and use your fat quarter collection. Mine was an out of control mess, so having it organized Marie Kondo style in the drawer makes me super happy.

I hunted this video of yours down since I just purchased the cutting table from IKEA. I had to see how you set up your stash. I also ordered the comic book cardboard (should be here real soon). I can't wait to get started. I'm afraid I'll be one of the fuss-budgets that will iron my fabric. It's all been washed, ironed and stored for years. 😎
Oh my goodness Peggie! That's wonderful! I LOVE THAT TORNVIKEN ISLAND!!! It is so nice to work on and it looks great. I should do a video on how I use the island so I'll put that on my list of videos to make. I say if it makes you happy to wash and iron all of your pretty fabric then you should go for it. I find the pressing and ironing to be relaxing, so I understand enjoying it. Enjoy my friend!
Love this, Patty, for many of the same reasons I like your new organization system for your larger fabric: easy to see at a glance, easy to manipulate, and easy return to its place. And I think I'd be more apt to start a project when I don't have to pull out a box, rifle through it, and then refold the contents to put it away. Did I mention how easy this system is to use!?! 😊. Thank you so much Cheryl! I can honestly say that this keeps my stash tidy no mater how much I remove and replace fabrics. It's been a huge help for me and I can see everything. I does take more room but I'm willing to make the sacrifice in order to have a neater setup and be able to easily review and test fabrics for blocks.
Thank you Lynette! Seeing them all fitting so perfectly into the drawer like that made me incredibly happy. A couple of viewers suggested the alligator clips in the other video and it is a great suggestion.

Thank you Veda! It takes a little time to cut down the comic book cards in the beginning, but it's so worth it. You can size your cards how ever you like them, but I like the presentation I did for this video. And I love, love, love how I can finally see everything I have in my fabric collection! It takes more space than simple folding, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
I have my fat quarters in an IKEA trofast (tower) unit that we’ve had for years. It is no longer needed for toys but makes the perfect storage for my fat quarters. I have 4 of the smaller drawers where the quarters are folded, in colours and displayed just as yours are and, the drawers are light enough to easily remove and put side by side to see all of the fabrics. I have one of the large drawers at the bottom of the unit where I keep my scraps (and as it’s the tower unit it doesn’t take up much space). My youngest granddaughter loves having the drawers out so that she can easily see and select fabric for projects like her bean bag cover I am making 😀
Thanks for sharing that great tip Janet! I will definitely have a look at that Ikea unit. I'm going to rethink how I store some things so maybe that is just what I'm looking for!! Ikea is amazing for storage and organization!
Just found you and am enjoying your organizing videos very much. I've been trying to organize my scraps and have made several scrap quilts for charity. Any videos that help us quilters with all the STUFF are so great. Thanks for the tips!
Oh thank you Darlene!! Gosh, I struggle with getting it together as well!! But I'm really happy that you find my sharing of personal tips to be helpful. I have been working of figuring out my updated sewing space and I will have some new things to share.
Great ideas! I keep mine in my closet in a built in cabinet now. I was using plastic drawers from Target. Yours look so neat & pretty! I don't have very many fat quarter bundles. I think 3. I have more 10 & 5 inch precuts.
I don't think there is a lot to do in terms or organizing leftovers from open charm and layer cake packs. I think the best thing to do there I use them up in a project. I'm all about these fat quarter bundles now that I used a few. They can be expensive, but the pricey ones have a lot of fabric in them.
@@PattymacMakes when I was new to precuts I bought too many when on sale. Now I see it's not the best choice & they are hardly ever truly square. Ask me how I know!! Quilt nightmares on assembly

I'm happy with how I store yards, fat quarters and fat eights but at a loss on how to store layer cakes and charm packs. Any ideas for me? I need to see it or I forget it.
I don't have all that many charm packs on hand, so I just put them in the drawer with my fat quarters. About the only thing you can do is stack them on a shelf. Which you're probably already doing. Or store them in a container you can put away until you need something special. Other than that I don't know what else you could really do. I'm sorry I don't have any better ideas for them! Someone might read your question and have a more helpful suggestion.
Thank you for another great video and also to let us know a reminder so may be lots of shortages and lots of different products. Luckily I have stocked up also on clothes ,towels, And I still need to buy a few more mask trying to order some now. And I think in another three weeks or four I should be OK for winter just making it do with what I have I have a lot of things already bought ready to organize hugs and kisses From grandma Sandy

Thanks Sandy! Yes, I'm planning my fabric and supplies now so I have enough for a good long time. I'm pretty concerned about what could happen, and I would would like to be able to keep working and sharing videos during what could be a very difficult time.
Good Evening Pattymac. I love your idea and yours look so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I hope you’re doing well and the family too. I love your sewing space great job. Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend.❤️🧵✂️😃🇺🇸
Hi Faith!! Thank you so very much! I'm really happy the idea speaks to you. I absolutely love seeing my neat collection of fabrics displayed like this. It inspires me to work and it makes picking out fabrics enjoyable and easier. I hope you will try it out! Happy 4th to you too!!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. Love organizing tips! I have been folding my fqs to fit the height of a box I use, I’ll definitely use this tip. Card stock is awesome, it can be used in so many ways. Those fqs look great having some structure. I think it’ll also work wonderfully for larger scraps that are too small for a full sized board. Also love the alligator clips tip. Not sure if I missed the link for the clips. Those will be great. I’ve been using tape. I also always add a scrap of paper to each mini bolt with the measurements & initials of its brand/line or store. Did you get your storage drawer set at an IKEA? I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you’ve had it for years. Wonder if it’s still available. Always nice to see your videos. Hope you have a great holiday weekend. Blessed be.
Thank you! I It feels wonderful to be back!! The cart is from Origami and I picked it up on HSN. They have them on sale with free shipping on a regular basis, so I would look for it there. I love it and there are a few videos on the channel that show it in more detail. Stacking in the box is a great idea! I have a couple of pretty, empty boxes I wondered what to do with so that's a good idea. I wrapped some larger scraps on the same size boards and it's keeping things nice and organized for me. I'll look for the clips again, I know I linked them in my blog post so I'll grab the link from there and put it here. Have a wonderful holiday!! I love the 4th!
Hi Patti, I came across your channel when I wanted to know how to use the needle threade r on my Singer Brilliance sewing machine. I also bought my machine from Lidl - in the UK. Thanks for your video. I also bought an overlocker/surger. Do you have a surger. If you do, could you perhaps do a video. I'm still scared to get mine out of the box🤐
Hi Linda! That's wonderful you also have a Brilliance! I I still use mine. I installed the walking foot on it and I use it for my quilting and anything else that sews better with a walking foot. I do not have a serger or know anything about them. It's more of a clothing thing and I don't sew a lot of clothing. I'm sure there are videos on using one though! Lots of people have them. I know its finnicky with the threading, but that's really all I know.
Hi patty, great idea on fat quarter storing. I store my yardage that way and used a snap type clip but I like the alligator clips better, I cannot find them on Amazon where can I purchase them. Great video . Look forward to your next one. I have quite a stash of fat quarter and some odds and end small yardage so I’ll be doing the same storage idea with them as well. Thank you patty.

Thank you! They are called plastic Alligator Clips. There is a link to them in my blog post pattymacmakes.com/fabric-storage-ideas-for-fat-quarters/ I will add it to my notes section here on Monday as tomorrow is a holiday. But the written instructions show the clips clearly.
What brand is your cutting table and where can it be purchased? Thanks, love the information. Another person recommended the comic book boards and alligator clips but it’s great seeing it in action.
Hi Angela! The cutting table is a Tornviken kitchen island from Ikea. I have a video on the channel all about it so you might enjoy looking at that. It will give you more details. I love the alligator clips! That was a great suggestion from a viewer.
I have a question : The storage pre-cut fabric is for only quilting geometric patchwork ? because when we make patchwork appliqué or patchwork landscape etc... we need larger fabric. So we don't have enough fabric dimension for doing that if we pre-cut it. What do you think about it ?
I use mine for mostly quilting patterns and also for small bags, napkins, placemats, pillows etc. I have not worked with applique or patchwork landscape type of projects, but I could see that you might need larger cuts of fabric. I hope that helps! If you like making smaller projects like tote bags or zipper pouches, then the fat quarters are a fun way to introduce variety into your items. I hope that helps!
@@sandrinou1329 Yes!! use you fabric in a way that makes sense for you! I have also wrapped fabric yardage in a similar way. Search wrapping fabric on my channel homepage if you haven't seen that one.
I have but it's expensive, and honestly, I need to move on. LOL There are plenty of projects to make using what I have right here, so I'm doing that, and selecting items for purchase that are new and coming out so when I make projects to share with you on the channel, the fabrics will still be available. The problem is I fall fall in love with all my prints and I want them ALL. I need help.
Thx Patti :-)) what a great idea..I'm in the process of organizing my sewing room and this idea will definitely be implemented...btw ebay has some of your stellar fabric ..I think it a charm pack..for $14... have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!! 🇺🇸🎆🇺🇸
OOOO thanks Kathy! At this point, I'm going to use what I have. I want to share new projects in fabrics still available so viewers have the chance to obtain them and match the projects. I have some fun new things coming so get ready!!! Happy 4th of July to you as well!
I get them on Amazon. There is a link in the description to find them. I also switched to using plastic alligator clips to hold the fabric in place. It's worked so well for me that I wanted to share!
My fat quarter, I fold them to go in a plastic container (no cover to be able to always see them!) And by Color. That way, it’s the only way I found that the don’t walk on the shelves!!! Lol!
I don't have any fat quarters. I'm deprived. 😭 Actually, I've avoided FQ's because of the cost; but your explanation of why you love FQ's was good information. Must increase my quilting/fabric budget for next year. This year ... well, I'll just borrow from some other budget item. HAHA
I love them and you get a lot of fabric in a bundle even if an individual piece is smallish. If you have 32 fat quarters in a bundle, divide by 4 and it's 8 yards of fabric, which is a LOT. You still need some coordinating yardage for borders or sashing....but a FQ bundle can actually provide quite a LOT of fabric to play with. And for making quilt blocks, it's easier than buying yardage. I think anyway, but honestly, it's a preference more than "the right way to do it." I'm sharing things I like on the channel to give others ideas or get them to think about things in new ways. But if it's not appealing to you, please don't think it's something you have to do!! And you can cut your own FQs. I'll do an upcoming video on that, too!
Oh Darlene!! LOL!! Well I had a bunch of car trouble to work through and wound selling a vehicle and other stuff. I'm still working on that list of stuff I've needed to do if you can believe it. And mom starts doctors appointments again this week. I do have an outline of what I want to do next and I''m so excited to get back to work on it. I should be able to film week though.
I appreciate your suggestion, but I love my squares! The great thing is that we can personalize all of these things to suit our own preferences. I think of my videos as guidelines and not definitive answers. It's more about "here's how I've been doing xyz and I'm sharing because I think it might be helplful" than "this is the one proper way to xyz and it's the only way." We have enough hard and fast rules in quilting and sewing, and life for that matter, so having some options for creative freedom is important. But I always enjoy hearing what works for others! Thank you.
hmm. OK @Susan Clarke Then allow me to ask since you mentioned it. "HOW" would using 4.5" x 5.5" card stock "LOOK BETTER" than @Pattymac Makes personally I think her idea is stellar! Let's see yours in action. Thanks Pattymac Makes.

Have you tried looking on Etsy for more fabric?
How do u store net fabric?
I don't have anything like that.
Where did you buy your comic book boards?
I get them on Amazon. There is a link in the description to find them. I also switched to using plastic alligator clips to hold the fabric in place. It's worked so well for me that I wanted to share!
Are the comic book boards cardstock?
Basically yes. It's considered archival so it doesn't have acid in the paper.
Make sure the card stock is acid free or it could discolor the fabric over time.
Thanks Tanya! Thanks for bringing that up! Yes, the comic book boards I use are acid free for that that reason.
Great idea!! When you're finished organizing you...Do you hire out???LOL
I wish I could get paid to go wrap fabric for people. What a dream!! LOL!!! It's so zen for me, and I love it.
My fat quarter, I fold them to go in a plastic container (no cover to be able to always see them!) And by Color. That way, it’s the only way I found that the don’t walk on the shelves!!! Lol!
OOOOO that's a GREAT tip Claudette! Thank you! It's maddening how quickly our neatly arranged fabrics and supplies can devolved into disaster.
I have dune it. But I took the card out .I read use the card .it save money 😂
Whatever works!!!!!!!
When will
We see MORE videos! That was just a tease
If you had done your cardstock 4.5"x5.5" it would have looked much better
Sorry not something I would spend my time on.
It's definitely not for everybody, but it's been 110% worth if for me.
3 min of video padded out to 18. Sheesh.
You are welcome to create your own videos any time. If you don't like the style of one, please go on to something else. Or better yet, make your own and see how easy it is to run your own channel. Enjoy!
