Thanks for putting this interview together! I haven't finished it yet, but I think you've asked some great questions, and done a good job with the audio too. Just a small nitpick though, I feel the color choices could be improved slightly. The mix of red, blue, yellow, and green doesn't fit very well together and kind of clashes in my opinion. Maybe the next episode of Vintage Voices could use the same color palette the Vintage Story website uses?
@@perlinfall I appreciate the feedback. I guess I didn't think the visuals mattered a ton since it was a podcast mostly, but now that I think about it, I agree with you!
You know? I love this way of you talking me... you talk more like a human here. It's a bit hard to explain, as much I love watching the 100 days things, but from reading the script, you have 2 sentences, where you go up in pitch, and the second sentence drops the pitch back down. It uhh... feels very repetitive and inhuman after a while, so this is very refreshing. Very good insights from Tyron here, and I am quite excited for more mechanical-based things. I love the system but it's very bare bones with only basic smithing, crushing and milling in there. Having additional purposes and sources of mechanical power will be lovely. Much love to both of you and to the rest of the community, it's a very good and supportive one.
I am always evolving my narrative style. It's hard to make reading a script sound organic, but hopefully with time and practice I can get better. Glad you liked the podcast!
Thanks for making this interview and thanks to Tyrone for doing the interview. I've been playing this game for over a year now with three friends and we are absolutely loving it. From the story, the survival aspect, just the amount of passion and work that the developers have been putting into the game. It's absolutely incredible. I'm very excited for the 1.20 update. I'm also very intrigued to see how the game will continue to progress in the future with added content, story and lore, the plethora of mods that people are making for the game. Overall it is one of the best games I've ever played and I'm very happy with how the developers are taking it. Everyone has done such a great job. :')
@@Oscillascape that feeling is relatable, but I think it's cool that they are releasing updates in waves like how he mentioned different "story" updates. I think it's a cool way of doing it. keeping people invested in the game as it grows. :)
Thank you so much for doing this interview! And thank you Tyrone for being such a great person to want to do it and being kind! Love this community, and the hard work the developers are doing to bring us such great content every update!
i didn't expect to hear Tyron's voice!!!! that's great! the last interview i saw about him (not sure who made it) he resumed a bit the conversation! this was a great format!! and awesome to hear news without spoilers!!!
i dont think i have ever enjoyed every second of a game development interview i havent felt about a game this way in a long time, the game is amazing. im the type of person to nerd out and fantasize about features games should (imo) have, long times later watching videos about a pre-release updates, i see new underwater flora, wooded roofs, different types of trapdoors, more ambient sounds, crickets, lightbugs, etc can't wait to enjoy all those features once the update is fully out, and deadly excited for new lore progression
Congratulations on becoming a double dad, I pray for your family health and happiness 🎉🎉🎉. This was a great interview, thank you for becoming the voice of this amazing community and keep the videos coming 😊.
I watch your videos on a very regular basis, mostly the Vintage Story one's and subscribed I think 6 months ago? I really like how you approach this game. It is by far my favorite game of all times and I'm one year away from beginning my 30s. I can't get enough of it and it is always refreshing watching you and also Kurazahrr build things and getting creative. Thank you very much for the opportunity to listen to this awesome little interview. It's hard to describe but it meant a lot to me hearing Tyron talk about his game. You can hear his passion. And I'm also very impressed by the questions you provided. I'm so stoked for the future of the game and your channel. Keep up the great work! I rarely write comments and this is probably the longest one by far, but I felt the need to thank you. So: thank you!
@@iamjokn2100 Wow that's great. Thank you so much for the comment. I am extremely passionate about the game and just want to provide value to the community! It's nice to be early to the scene to help shape it! Hopefully there will be more and Kurazarrh is on my list to interview, if he agrees 😁
@@Oscillascape I think you provide a lot of value to us by producing your videos. But I also think you provided a lot of value to Tyron. He'll think about what you asked and what you mentioned. Especially your critique on the rift wards. Why craft it when you have lanterns? 😁 I bet you'll have more impact on the development than you think! You have my full support shaping the future of this masterpiece. Your ideas are great!

An interview with other VS community leaders/devs/mod devs would be great! Also interviewing Tyron for each major release would be a nice touch as well! Thanks, and have a sub!
Very thoughtful interview, thanks for sharing. I didn't know Tyron was looking for a Sound Designer, I'm almost tempted to send him my information and give it a shot, but I am still a novice with a few projects under my belt.
Brilliant, thanks so much. It was just yesterday I said to Ashantin that I would love to hear her interview Tyron and here it was first video in my feed.
This was a very great thing. Recently started playing vintage story and I love it. Cool to hear in real time the work and care that is going into the game. Also s/o to Latvia, live there myself!
I've been looking for a Vintage Story discussion podcast/video lately, and a new interview with Tyron, thanks for scratching my itch. Would also like to hear from various large community server teams and mod creators.
I had and have mostly resolved right hand pain. I recommend tyrone get some deep tissue work done on your forearm plus there is a trick of grabbing the sides of the wrist and pulling which opens up the nerve channel. Also, chiro packs help when cold. Plus you may want to get an ergometric expert to look at your chair and sitting and finally consider a master degreed physical therapist. Finally, (sort of), you can get *two* keyboards (a second smaller keyboard) and you will find a wide open arm position with your left hand on the left side of one keyboard and your right hand on the right side of the smaller right keyboard (but still with high quality blue, brown or red mechanical switch keys) will provide fast relieve and prevent you from tilting your hand and pinching the nerves. You may not have to struggle in pain.
Listening to this before going to bed, I wonder if my question got asked! I will leave an edit if it did ☺️ Edit: yes, and holy crap a high flowing water stream seems amazing, it would make wandering around the world, up and down streams and rivers, so amazing. Also I might try my hand at modding to get a job with Vintage story. Let this be the reference for future me if this is what gave me the inspiration to begin a career in game development.
Ha! Maybe, I ran out of time and also the script/questions kind of went out of the windows once the interview started and ! started to go with the flow!
I wonder if Tyron has tried to play Vintage Story with a controller. I obviously couldn't imagine what the injury feels like but for me and some people I've asked, the controller is much easier on the hands, I'd even call it ergonomic. I already have my own preferred custom controls mapping but it would be really interesting to hear from a Dev's own experience.
I don't want to tell another adult what to do about their health. Most of the time we have no idea what they've already tried, what's available to them or what other obstacles or deliberate choices are involved. But better controller support is somewhat of an accessibility feature in this regard and could help the player base at large, even if it's not something that works for Tyron. But if it did work out, I'd have even better hope for it becoming a reality. On an unrelated note, as I wrote my original comment very early into the interview: it was fun to find out that I have something in common with both the Vintage Story adjacent internet strangers in this video, being myself a half-russian living in a neighboring Baltic state. I know both the meat jello and the curd snacks. The latter being equally common in my own country with the Latvian Karums brand even dominating the market over local competitors 🤣 The russian language term that's used for the treat around here is 'сырок'/ 'сырочек' btw
Of the mods that you mentioned, the third player build camera would probably be best for growth of the game because it would allow TH-camrs to create content that would appeal to potential customers.
Yes, that's my point. It allows cinematic video footage and I loved doing that in Minecraft. I kind of wished Tyron would bite a little more on this concept.
I think I get his point that the combat system does what it needs to for the time being and he also did say it is continuously worked on the system, but I do agree that it is still clunky.
Was a great listen, one nitpick I'll throw out there is it feels like you jump between questions a bit fast maybe from editing down the interview for time or something? lol feels like the natural second or two pause you'd expect to be there is missing. Subscribed and Liked for you! As far as suggestions for future interviews you could try some of the people that are running/ran in the past the Sanctuary no-wipe server, pretty sure its one of the older public worlds out there.
Thanks. The interview is meticulous edited. The raw audio sounded nothing like the final product. The pause length was chosen by me. I could make it a little longer to give a little more breathing room between questions, that is true!
@@Oscillascape I don't think you would need to do much tbh, probably just enough that is has a noticeable break in between the questions but overall looking forward to seeing what you put out next! 🙂
Good interview , i'm disappointed that classes won't ever give way to a skill based system , but at the same time it doesn't change how we can play. Also i think hot climates, get very little love. They have added challenges of reverse growing seasons, berries do not thrive , every animal besides pig and hyena run starting at max spear throw distance away from you , you hit the animal, it runs again ... crops are very limited , you can even have temps where flax will die or yield half measures. While it seems "easier" on the surface, not having to hurry up and prep for cold, and hydration/heat mechanics aren't a thing, it is seemingly a game more bent to give arctic and temperate regions way more "love" ... and for those of us, that simply do not like cold regions , it's a bit off putting in a way. If you was in tropics band, IRL you'd have a very much more diverse eco system, more animals, more birds, fish , coconuts, palm and bamboo fibers for weaving. Bamboo as it stands has a love/hate relationship , its' a fantastic renewable build material, and minor food source , it's in game textures can be nauseating if used in mass quantities and the camera moves around. It's also not as greatly versatile as it truly is IRL. Not to mention, there's several varieties of bamboo IRL. There's truly not as many hot climate alternates like with flax needs ( one of the games bottle necks ) as really there should be. I'd be ok with crocs and alligators even! Because of hotter temps , even cellars can only spare spoilage so much as well. Everyone probably thinks, fruit trees in the hot climates, produce faster than the temperate varieties, they do not. You still wait out a year season before they start flowering, no idea why as they don't need a cold snap to vern, but even finding wild trees, they seem to never have fruits the first year either. I don't like aspects of "having to go north" or into arctic or sub arctic regions at all. For players that like that sort of play, i'm glad it's there , just isn't my cup of tea for sure. My fav regions are the jungles , savannas second to that, then it's a toss up between bald cypress swampy, and redwood areas. As a person that lives IRL in a temperate region, when i play the game, I want something different than what I experience and escape into. I know Tyron and his team work really hard, and the game is fantastic , and there is soooo much more that could be done , it's probably overwhelming and hard to coordinate. Then deciding what goes in after, nothing but respect there. I just sorta wish non snow and ice regions, got more love.
)) "Dacha" was the most brutal thing in my life! I hate potatoes after that. Thank you the your questions. It was very interesting to know the answers.
Good interview - this video deserve a lot more views. Have you thought about adding some English subtitles? It would help with translation to other languages ;)
A modpack is *so* much more than "just a collection of mods", you should try out some of the most popular Minecraft modpacks to see what kind of possibilities people would like to see for Vintage Story modpacks.
@@Oscillascape It is so much more than "a collection of mods". My favorite go-to example is the Minecraft modpack Exoria. Go check that one out to see what kind of possibilities there are, and what it would be amazing to see in Vintage Story.

В общем, жду новые выпуски в серии!
@@zzz11zz44 Thanks. I wanted to humanize Tyron to the community. He is just some dude that is making an amazing game, but he is a gamer just like us and has his own life behind the curtain. Also it's cool to know he lives in the former Soviet territory, wonder if his wife is Russian?
@@Oscillascape There is a mod that adds that, but what they really need to do is stop expecting the player to hold down the mouse button for long periods of time, back to back to back to back. Just a few hours of playing that can fuck up your wrist for weeks, especially if you get really into it.
8:08 i totally feel that, with my own mod/server. i bought two accounts, so i can play as a player, but it always ends up with me being like "i wish i could".... and make a new thing for the mod lol.
Took some time and sat down with some Coffee to listen to the whole interview between you and Tyron, I thought it was neat! The potential addition of waterwheels is exciting because my partner had been talking about the prospect being fun for automation, and whatnot, on top of the potential expansion of the cooking system which my partner has always gushed about too! I suppose my main takeaway is the answer Tyron gave to the question I suggested to you about the combat, and weapon variety, didn't feel that fulfilling of an answer for me, but I appreciate that he answered it regardless, I do hope he at some point changes his mind and weapons get an overhaul, The lack of weapons feels very lackluster to me, and mods like 'ancient armory' really scratch that itch of having more weapons to fight drifters with, as well as Maltiez's Musket, and Crossbow mods. The vanilla weapon system just doesn't do much for me, I don't really like the idea of the drifters "sludge blood" stopping other blades and things preventing us from making crossbows, and muskets, and various other early era weapons and things to combat the threat (I mean we have the blackguard sword but it's so niche because its the only legitimate "sword" in the game, and it's locked behind the class if you have class-recipes turned on.) Not really a rant, but just something that's always kind of bugged me. Regardless. The Interview was awesome, It answered quite a few questions I had about the game and it's future. Keep on being awesome man, your content is great! Same to you Tyron, The game is amazing, you and the team keep being amazing!
@@zacharycabrera7410 Thanks. I think there is high potential Tyron will look at the comment on this, so hopefully he can gauge the community's response here. I do agree with you on combat and weapon variety. Iron and steel spears seem like a no brainer, even if it's just more durability even if they don't do more damage.
If he really wanted to keep it from being a balance issue, he could always make it that the steel and Iron spears are 'top heavy' so they can't be thrown, so you'd have a good spears just can't toss it any longer. I feel that'd be a good counter claim to his reasoning for not including them over balance
I see a lot of complaints about spiky terrain, and terrain gen mods recommended to alleviate that. But I find that there's plenty of flattish terrain with the vanilla generation. It sometimes requires a trek from Spawn, but people can get really cranky if it takes more than 2 minutes to find the ideal spot to settle.
You can find flat areas it is true. But it's the mountainous areas that are an issue though. They tend to feel noisy. Regardless plains and valleys mod works just fine for me, so it ain't a big issue, but new players might be turned off the game without knowing there is a workaround!
Wow… what a well executed interview! I’m new to your channel and forgive me, but did you get these questions from subscribers/fans or did you think of them? As a very new player to Vintage Story I am very, very interested in the lore and the overall style of Anego Studios and how they’re run, and I truly felt like you asked the PERFECT questions at the PERFECT times. It also felt to me like Tyron (very intriguing comments) hinted at and sort of revealed a whole lot of lore in this interview alone. I have not read all of the scrolls and books, listened to all of the tuning cylinders, visited the resonance archives myself, or discovered something big, but I’ve found ruins, translocators, and traders, and… this feels in perfect line with the in game content, so in line that it feels ahead of the line… Again, excellent interview and it was great getting to know Tyron for the first time and it really made my night to hear this, I’ll be back to this channel and I will check out the VS discord.
@@Connor_McBride What a wonderful comment! The questions were a mix of mine and people's suggestions from reddit. I ran a thread on the VS subreddit to see what people were interested in!
Id love to see more fishing content in VS, maybe some more types of fish, both fresh and salt water. Sea creatures, maybe. I think seals would be a good fit for that, maybe even sharks in the oceans. It would be nice to have more oceanic content, since we are already getting larger sailing ships. Wrecked ships in the oceans would be neat to see, I think. EDIT: Airships would be a good fit too, with the games aesthetics and gameplay.
OMG, don't give them ideas. There will not only be seals ... If this happens I will have a second no go area in the game. 🤣 I regularly panic in the caves, and I will definetly avoid deep water when there are dangerous creatures. This game is too immersive for me and water combined with real danger is something I can't do. No way. No swimming anymore. The wolfs are surprisingly okay, even if they kill me. I love them, I watch them, even with no armor in early game. But underwater creatures that bite my ass off? Nope. I'm gone, immediately, and never come back. I am a happy coward. 🤣
@Oscillascape True. But in this case I have to face my own death by drowning. As a kid. And I just can't, I am thankful I forgot. I even learned swimming without problems, I don't fear water per se. But if it triggers, it triggers badly. And you can't handle that the usual way, by doing it again and again to reduce the fear. It always stays the same. I did'nt die for ever then and I don't want to die now. My survival instinct kicks in full force. So no monsters in deep water. 🤣 I rather enjoy the sunny days in VS. Right now, except when it gets really deep - and dark -, I have no problems with the water. But I know from other games that deadly danger in bodies of water are a no go. And there is not really a reason to trigger that. Nobody would choose to do that for no real reason. I lost lots of other fears the normal way, but that is the real thing. This is no game, there are consequences. Don't try this at home. 🙃
@@heiker1351 I understand your fears and triggers. Bears scare the ever living life out of me in the game because they are so immersive. I was attacked by a black bear when I was younger, almost 200 stitches across my back, and 2 reconstructive surgeries. Does that mean I want the bears removed? Not at all. I know my fears and my triggers, and yet vintage story is a great game that I have over 1000 hours in. I've been unalived by bears in game I can't count how many times. It's just a game. I feel like people are all too quick to cancel something just because they are too soft to deal with it if there's one small thing about it that they don't agree with. So, if sharks were added you'd stop playing it? I hate to see you go, but bye. Lol.
I am sorry for your hand problem Tyron, I wonder if you can add controller support for Vintage Story (for people who like it more), and maybe even for you, it will be better to play...?
@@Mr_MiRok We talked about 1.21 but he only has a vague idea of what it's going to be. Just finishing unfinished things and adding a water wheel. Nothing about automation.
Really enjoy the game. I wish they would lean into the simulation aspect. For example the insane windmills don't occur in real life so they should adjust the logic to not reward that behavior. And they should add ways to make clay by mixing dirt and water and barrels because people really do that. And there really were Neolithic bone shovels and even axes so they should allow that. And you don't get seeds from breaking leaves. You get seeds when they fall at a certain time of year. I think they should change the trees to where seeds would drop from trees at a certain time of year instead of by breaking leaves. I hope I don't lean too much into the adventure route unless it is in rust world. I wish they would watch the primitive technology guys channel because there's lots of interesting things on there. Also I think you should be able to use blowers to produce hotter fires with more manual effort which is how the Egyptians were melting gold and glass 3,000 years BC.
@@macmcleod1188 That's an interesting direction to take. I wouldn't mind that to be honest. Although they seem to want to be pumping out features now rather than refining old ones, but if I get to interview Tyron again, I will ask him about these ideas, they are great!
That is an amazing topic! "indoeuropean" comunities went down the blower road to achieve higher temperatures, even using water power to automatice them. But subsaharian metalurgy was very diferent! They went directly from stone to iron, without a bronce age, and for doing so they developed tecnology to actually melt iron using very tall furnaces! I believe this would break the game balance but its really amazing how diverse human culture and tecnology is. Also i would like to recomend a youtuber called "tods workshop" that focus in forging and testing medieval equipment based on historic documents. He actually found out some amazing things, like puting wax on an iron arrowhead not only prevents it from rusting but improves its penetration power! Or boiling leather does no make it harder, but doing the same in a powdered glass and glue mix makes something close to glass fiber, that is a hard and light armor! I love this game because there is space for this kind of things
@@jgrandson5651 Primitive technologies are extremely fascinating! I wouldn't mind Vintage Story learning more into those and less into futuristic/steampunk themes.
So uh why isn''t Vintage story a mod/mudpack for Minecraft when the only thing that Vintage story does that can't be done in Minecraft as a mod/modpack is sell as a new title? Is the creator worried of getting sued my Microsoft? Who by the way only sues people for making mods in games/game that are simluar to it's own in development or out. Which Vinatge story while not a MS IP is very much in breach of Minecraft copywrite/patnets? What are the selling point of vintage story over Minecraft or other sandbox games? As unlike Minecraft clones of the past was being on console or free Vintage story does not have access to them. Given that Minecraft is on all modern cosoles and Vintage story isn't free and likely costs more to buy ouytsiode of the EU/UK and the US although that is if the game is avable outside of the EU which given VAT is included in the oprice I doidut legally it is. Like here in the free state of Floirda we have a law that as a citizen we fcan complain to Floirdsa about getting overchanrged on sales tax... Unless the VAT is less then 7% or so of the core retail price in USD... Then any floridain should complain to our state by filling out form and let them take care or it. Also even if you come from the same area the dev comes from and [ays the exact same VAT which I highly doudt... Then you are dodulinjg up your taxs if the dev uses a online transaction service that is connected to the world banking system.. As you will pay your local tax out top of the "included VAT" spo even in you had the same address you whould pay the same VAT twice.... Unless the VAT % is made up that is then you are paying your local tax on top of what "included VAT" is... Unless the dev has their off network means of getting your money... Then you don't pay tax at all and likely in breach of your local law which you and the dev are likely in very bigg trouble for. So final question... why is the only way to buy the game currently on a out dated looking website and what does "included VAT" mean? If it isn't a inocnet mis understanding of how tax law work on the internet at best that can get the dev in massive trouble... Or is scam taking advaratge of people not knowing how tax law works on the internet and who don't care about missing pennies to read their receipt... A Classic way hacking people for money bby the way... Which would make the dev and dirty dev and get them a knock on the door from their local authorities.

I've been looking for a Vintage Story discussion podcast/video lately, and a new interview with Tyron, thanks for scratching my itch.
Would also like to hear from various large community server teams and mod creators.
I agree! The reason I came up with this idea was the lack of interviews on TH-cam. I was surprised to see it and decide to fill the niche.
@@macmcleod1188 I had wrist issues as well, yoga helped me a ton. I will pass these messages to Tyron, maybe it can help!

Game is worth every penny. I even paid the extra. $10 or $15 (i forget) for the supporter option.. and gives you a yellow name in game.
Yellow name? Didn't even know it was an option.
Good question. There was some other advice for him to manage his pain in the comments. He should look through these🙃
I don't want to tell another adult what to do about their health.
@@jutamae7936 ohh is that what it is? Now that you said syrok, I get what he meant!!!
Good interview the only thing that scares me is the part about the combat system 😅
I think I get his point that the combat system does what it needs to for the time being and he also did say it is continuously worked on the system, but I do agree that it is still clunky.
Keep up the good work man, you convinced me to get the game
You will have a good time playing it, I am sure!
I love playing at the extremes and would love more content around that!
)) "Dacha" was the most brutal thing in my life! I hate potatoes after that. Thank you the your questions. It was very interesting to know the answers.

@@Oscillascape It is so much more than "a collection of mods". My favorite go-to example is the Minecraft modpack Exoria. Go check that one out to see what kind of possibilities there are, and what it would be amazing to see in Vintage Story.

Hearing that Tyron has wrist issues makes me even more floored how much of the game requires you to hold down the mouse for obscene amounts of time.
I started using hold macros for Minecraft ages ago and so the same in Vintage Story. They should add a toggle keybind for sure!
@@Oscillascape There is a mod that adds that, but what they really need to do is stop expecting the player to hold down the mouse button for long periods of time, back to back to back to back. Just a few hours of playing that can fuck up your wrist for weeks, especially if you get really into it.

Perfectionism is a thief of joy ;)
The vanilla weapon system just doesn't do much for me, I don't really like the idea of the drifters "sludge blood" stopping other blades and things preventing us from making crossbows, and muskets, and various other early era weapons and things to combat the threat (I mean we have the blackguard sword but it's so niche because its the only legitimate "sword" in the game, and it's locked behind the class if you have class-recipes turned on.)
Not really a rant, but just something that's always kind of bugged me.
@@zacharycabrera7410 awesome idea. Using the characteristics of the different materials to balance their strength seems reasonable!
@@zacharycabrera7410 Perhaps I could have pushed more in that regard to get him to expand on his reasoning!
I have not read all of the scrolls and books, listened to all of the tuning cylinders, visited the resonance archives myself, or discovered something big, but I’ve found ruins, translocators, and traders, and… this feels in perfect line with the in game content, so in line that it feels ahead of the line…
Again, excellent interview and it was great getting to know Tyron for the first time and it really made my night to hear this, I’ll be back to this channel and I will check out the VS discord.

Agreed on all your points. I really liked playing an ocean world and would love more stuff around that.
@@heiker1351 The best way to conquer your fear is to face them!
Lol.

Well, they need to finish cooking VS first 🥇
Really enjoy the game.
Yeah!!!
@@jorgeruanoperez4252 agreed!!
This is my NPR. 😂
And it is in its infancy!
Tyrone lore!
I know right! Love to get to know the man.
Great interview, love the down to earth atmosphere and the nonchalant positivity both Tyron and you exuded.
Good to hear. Only good vibes on my part. No desire to put anyone on the spot and do gotchas!
good interview, and i second the Timmy two nipples videos are really good.
That was a bait for him to say my name:)
Please Tyron add Tomatos and Potatoes to the game ! xD
@@LoveJupiter325 I feel like those are coming. In fact you can see placeholder potato files in the game allegedly.
wait the creator lives in latvia??
@@watersheep3254That's right. I think he moved for his wife from the sound of it.
огонь!
I am the Firestarter🔥
What??? 😂
hopefully timmy uploads a new video now lol
Haha, Tyron's favorite TH-camrs making a comeback!
I want to make AI integrations for it for a mod for free.... ould people help on the discord? Surely...
