    Imagine, you're working on a school project and you go to your local micro center to find the perfect Windows 2000 - XP era machine to do your project on, and then LTT comes along and ruins this amazing find. How awful, I feel so bad for them, being tricked like that. :(

      It'll be all right. It'll play retro games just fine, and there are a lot of modern games with a retro feel that actually have a ton of graphical features that can be unlocked. I was really surprised at how much new detail and animation was added to Hades when I got my 3060 (ty newegg shuffle), and while I haven't played it yet, the Diablo II remake is another obvious case.

    • @mintagenart
      @mintagenart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I'm pretty sure he meant retro PC games, which are actually really hard to get compatible with modern devices. My Sims 1 cannot run whatsoever on my Windows 10, and other games like Fallout 1&2 and some others have messed up colors when running on modern video cards.

      @@mintagenart Ah, that's unfortunate. In case where compatibility mode fails, you'll probably have to install an older Windows into a virtual machine, which could take a little work to get going just right. Or you could give DosBox a try, some (most?) of the Win95/98 era games could simply be launched from the DOS command line.

    On another note. Whoever is in charge of marketing at Microcenter / be it at a senior level or entry level... They need acknowledgement here. THIS type of content is going to keep them ahead and not fall to extinction like Circuit City. They clearly had a vision that they needed to have a broader spectrum in terms of audience /customer reach vs the emails and ad papers they send out.

      I had to buy a pre-built pc with rtx 3060 for 1200 euros cuz there were none in my country at the time and it would cost over 1k to get it here. I've used my pc for 5 months now I think. It works great and doesn't overheat cuz lenovo built it. If you buy pre-built, buy Lenovo pcs, I tried Acer's one and the cpu overheated to 100 degrees even on simple tasks.

    • @heretic124
      @heretic124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KelvinKMS They use the same cards. Other distributors like MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc. usually put better cooling on them which allows for better overclocking and performance overall.
      But the core of the card is the same if you buy Alienware desktop, get it directly from Nvidia or from EVGA. It's just that lower temperature = longer lifespan.
      It's not like a card in HP desktop will last two years instead of five if bought separately. It might just perform slightly worse because of the cooling and temps it's running on (which also depends on how well you build your PC yourself), it may get slightly shorter lifespan but not that much shorter that it's worth paying double for the same specs. I'll gladly sacrifice 3 months out of 72 if I save 1000+ euros. Plus there's the option of extended warranty.

    This video gives me so much nostalgia. I live in a 1000 souls village in Germany and somehow the biggest computer store chain had it's warehouse just a few kilometers away from my house and it looked exactly like Micro Center. I remember going there with my father to build my first PC for 300€ in 2008 or something, which could barely run Half Life 2. Unfortunately they went bankrupt and now there is no alternative in all Germany except for some retailers in big cities.

At the heart was the absolutely gorgeous and incredible AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1,000MHz (The first 1.0GHz proc). It also came with an Nvidia TNT2 RIVA 16MB card SVGA card. I swapped it later for a 3DFx VooDoo.

    What's hilarious is I showed my local microcenter this stores pricing in videos like yours and they argued with me that the MSRP priced GPUs on the shelf at that store were not real and that their heavily inflated "MSRP" pricing was real.
    Weird how two stores owned by the same company can sell a 3080Ti for $1199 in one store, in a state known for being overpriced, and then in the other stores that exact same card is $1799. Exact same sku. Then they wonder why they can't actually sell any of them. Wild.

      That doesn't smell right. All chains have uniform pricing because they buy their wares in bulk and then distribute them to the store locations. Thats the entire point behind it, be present everywhere and give customers reliable pricing across the board. This can't be legit.
