  • In the lead up to The Australian Lure and Fly Expo, I head out and catch a few fish on some Aussie designed fishing lures to showcase some of the lure builders mastery in action. We are so lucky in this country to have these minds in the fishing game to help make our time on the water so much better!
    The gear used in today's video includes:
    3000 sized Shimano Vanford and BB Essence reels with 10lb PowerPro braid and leader.
    Lures Include:
    Holt Production Swimminnows
    Pro Lure Clone Prawn
    McGrath Attack Lure
    Rory Gibbo's lipless minnow
    MMD Splash Prawn
    Pursuit Tackle's Twitch It

    You asked how we handle flatties…… personally I carry a couple of old cloth nappies with me, one to wipe hands, the other to hold fish. I wet them and cover the head while picking them up. Doesn’t take slime off them and keeps spikes, fins and gill rakers flat for easier handling 👍.

    saw you launching next to me when launching your boat a few weeks ago at jacobs well ramp. I was in a 5M black centre console with foam sponsons, kapten boat collar. I was having engine trouble so never made it out and was too grumpy to say g'day but was so impressed when the young fella asked for a photo and you just took the time out of your day to take a pic. Hope you had a good day out.

    When I used to live and fish the Goldy, those little Mc Grath Attack lures were the ducks nuts. For a small lure they catch some very big fish. Got spooled twice because of these bad boys.

      @@PARATROOPER2358 I looked at the 722m but the website says it's a 6-12lb rod, then again it says it does 1/16th cast weight, so it's a tad confusing what the rod is suited to. I'm wanting a mainly whiting rod but something that will cope with a decent snapper or Australian salmon too. Does anyone in SA carry these?

But also a lot of good salt water fisherman that don't get to go fishing alot being a farming community. You've got me frothing, but I'm not having a lot of luck with conditions. I'm at Casuarina, getting flogged on the open beaches with the swell and can't jag the right conditions to hook up some tailor. I think I might have found a good spot to try my big SUP tomorrow with similar water conditions to where you are in this video. You've got me invested in jacks, bought a bait caster, but the postman is being slow with that too.

    Amazing video Johnny, love the longer videos, great stuff, just one question about Australian timber lures, are they generally a lot more expensive , than mass produced lures, and are they worth the investment for regular anglers on a budget, looking forward to seeing what else comes out in the expo, can't get there myself, so thanks for taking us there with your videos,

    • @paullobwein1632
      @paullobwein1632 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can answer that .. Yes in some cases they will be more expensive but there are a few lure makers out there that don’t sell them more expensive. They are worth it for two reasons as an investment because timber lures are more snag resistant. If you hit a log for or rock for example it will bump backwards because the wood is more bouyant compared to weighted morgen plastic mould ones. The second reason is because all are hand made each has an individual movement in the water unlike any other which will always guarantee a curiosity bite. Hope this helps

      @@paullobwein1632 Thanks Paul, that definitely helps, I will definitely be looking into a few, I do have a couple of Darren dizzy Borg bent mullets, from HM lures, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet, and he makes them all by hand , and only about thirty bucks, so I will definitely look into it more, thanks for the reply,

    Gday Jonny i have been doing a lot of big flatty fishing on the flats after you did the talk at the Coomera waters fishing club meeting that night and I have been getting a lot of big fish follow my lures in but not fully committed to eating it. Is there anything that could help those big girl commit to eating the lure?

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe a few changes could help, but hard to say… change the retrieve angle to be across the tide, scent it up, switch the lure up on em. It’s hard to say. If you retry the same spot with more tidal flow, maybe that can dial em up for a bite
