    Ibanez should bring back all the good old models...and have them as regular made in Japan series/or part of the Genesis collection. Like rosewood, DX style with shark inlays, etc..everything..including PGM models...I think they would have huge success!!

    In few months I’m gonna be having that guitar for 2 years now. I have emerald green and I love it so much, best guitar for practice because it always stays in tune! I wanna get neon orange version too because it’s also sick as hell. But I went with emerald green first because it’s a rare color for a guitar and really eye pleasing. Sick playing, man!
    Edit: only downside is bright maple neck and after playing for months without cleaning and changing strings on it, it looks really dirty!
    Edit 2: actually when the neck is that thin, the giant angled block on the back is good, helps to have my hand in position
    Edit 3: i got Dave Mustaines Thrash factor installed today and this guitar is 10/10 now

    The fret-ends on my RG550 are the same, but after going over it with the dunlop fret polishing cloth a few strokes it was perfect.
    They aren't ball-end rounded like an ESP or J.-Custom, but you don't feel them anymore.
    I'm absolutely in love with the RG550, I'd recommend anyone to check out the Genesis models!

    • @naegleriafowleri2230
      @naegleriafowleri2230 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The conehead McKnight also talked shit about fret ends. People need to do research. Factory Prestige/Genesis maple gets zero edge treatment. Signature maple they get the same as rosewood, they run in against a sanding belt in a figure 8 pattern. All Premium and J custom are all filed by hand. You are NOT going to get a maple fretboard filed by hand or machine unless is a signature, premium or J custom. Why are premium filed by hands despite beign cheaper than Prestiges? Because they're done in Indonesia and labor is cheaper. The results is not as good as done by Japanese workers on the J custom. Done. Buy a fret end file with a couple of sandpaper and do your own fret end dressing. Those polishing cloth are not enough to get the fret ends good, you need a fret end file

    • @Kharnimani
      @Kharnimani 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@naegleriafowleri2230 The polishing cloth was definitely more than enough. obviously they don't have a ball-end finish, but it's comfortable.
      I'm talking from my own experience, no clue how bad the frets you've seen have been.

    Just, simply, mouthwatering. Such a great looking guitar. Must resist...must...
    On the neck joint - these RGs were among the field of Super Strats (Jackson, Charvel, etc.), no naturally, they were based on Strats, neck joint and all.
    I've got two RG550s. One is the real deal '87 in black, and my Genesis is just about a year old. Absolutely fantastic. I especially like the 5-piece necks on the these. Yep, my new one also had some sharp fret ends. Easily fixed. Though my '87 never had that issue, even back when it was still a babe in the world.
    So many strong emotions on the pickups across the RG line. I'm in the "I like them, and like them a lot" camp.
    I had a neck-thru Prestige. Beautiful to look at with the mahogany wings, and the neck running through it, all unpainted. And where the neck joined the body - wow! Talk about smooth, sublime, ugh just so amazing.
    But I had a few problems with it. Weighed a ton! Sounded lifeless, and I was disappointed that the neck had dead spots everywhere. Just crap. Though I'll say the frets sure were shiny! Here were my "production" MIJ Ibbys coming outta box better put together than my first Prestige model. They dropped that model pretty quickly, so I must not have been alone.

      @@mylogify hi, i changed the bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Norton. I'm still undecided if it's an improvement or not ,cause the V8 is a good pickup, despite the things said in the forums.
      For the neck position I might try a Di Marzio chopper or a satch track but in this period is unbelievable hard to get them new. They are out of stock here in Europe.
      I suspect i will keep the guitar stock cause the sound is balanced overall.

    Even slimmer necks? Only two in my collection:
    1) 2000 Jem7DBK with the original Super Wizard neck. Similar from a measurements point of view but feels much slimmer due to the different neck carve (it's also a couple of mm narrower at the 24th fret)
    2) Parker PDF series guitars. Again, dimensionally similar but feel wafer thin due to havinga very gentle "C" shape profile rather than the "D" of the RG

      As long as you can get in intonated it‘s really about feel and how hard you pick. If you absolutely destroy that string you might want a thicker gauge :D
      Personally I use light strings until Low B. eg I use 9-46 for Drop D, 10-52 for Drop C, 11-54 for Drop B, but 12-64 for drop A#. So there‘s a big jump but for some reason that‘s just the gauge I like for A#.

    • @MilianMalivukMusic

      Yeah the tension is pretty much equal to the standart .42 set that was on there in drop D. @Stndrd has a pretty nice list of gauges that fit various tunings. I always wonder who plays thos 60 gauge sets that are "optimized for drop D" which would be ridiculously too much tension.

    • @stndrd3608
      @stndrd3608 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MilianMalivukMusic I also don’t get that. Some sets also have really absurd gauges in the middle. Like Theres am Ernie Ball set that‘s 12-60 - pretty cool. But the G strings has an absurd amount of tension if you use this set for a drop tuning. Even though it‘s one of those „optimized“ for drop tunings.
      With 7 strings and baritones it goes further downhill. Here I buy single strings and sets to combine them. The only readily available set I really like is the 9.5-64 Strandberg 7 string set. That one is awesome in Drop A (26.5) and still really nice for G#.

      Simply because the RG550 was already mine and this was only equally good (it has almost the exact same specs after all). If I could buy guitars infinitely I would have gotten this as well though as I really loved it!

    In your opinion, which one is a better guitar overall, rg 550 or 565?

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I felt that this RG565 sounded a bit tighter than my 550, not just through the pickups but also acoustically. I think it might be the difference in routing, the 550 has a much bigger cavity for the pickups since the pickguard is hiding it, feels like the lack thereof is making this tighter. But they're both excellent! It's more a matter of taste, the quality is pretty much the same as it's the same model range.

      I find this 565 a bit more snappy that my 550. I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that the 550 has the pickups mounted to a pickguard, there's a noticeable difference in resonance if you play the guitars dry. The direct mount on the 565 sounds more dense and less "open" or "airy". In the end the difference is very small though. Wouldn't trade my 550 because of that shifting purple neon color!

    Ibanez have massive issues with fretwork on basically all their guitars, the premium/ironlabel/axionlabel line is awful and the Prestige line also have serious fretwork issues on the models with SS frets, my 2.5k RGD Uppercut needed fretlevelling and polishing to be playable and my RG in flourescent orange needed fretlevelling too, an annoying thing is it still after the levelling has one tiny spot somewhere that causes the E and B string to choke out when bending....

      @@MilianMalivukMusic because people don’t understand or know how Ibanez does things. Running the fret ends on a sanding belt like they on the maple jems takes time as it cant be done by a robot, they’re not going to do this on a $1000 guitar they’re already giving you a lot for that money. Back in the day there was no way you could get made in japan guitar with original edge bridge for 1k. They don’t even do hand filing on the maple jems, why would they do it on a budget mij guitar. Its simple economics, only j customs gets the hand treatment. The premium guitar also get hand treatment but only because labor is cheaper in Indonesia and the result is far from good. If you go ibanez website you will they no longer advertise fret edge treatment on the prestige guitar as they used to this is because they were called out by people lol they only advertise it on premium and j custom
