@@RVUntethered Discount Tire has been our go-to for years, and we’ve always valued their reliable tire warranties on the road. I hope you get them installed soon-it’s an extra layer of protection that gives peace of mind.
When we bought new tire at firestone with a discount I asked for metal stems and they had them. But my max pressure is 80 psig if you need 150 psig you may need to see a truck supplier.
That’s a REALLY good point! We are at 110 psi, but I am going to call and make sure they can accommodate that. I have had them NOT inflate them all the way and say they didn’t have the equipment for it. 😬😬 I sure didn’t think of that!
Looking forward to seeing what you find in West Virginia. We’re originally from there, I definitely recommend trying the pepperoni rolls. Blackwater Falls is a great place to visit!
Thanks! We had others recommended Black Water Falls and we visited briefly yesterday. Wowzer! Pepperoni rollls…🧐Is that a WV thing or they just make them good here? Twist my arm on that one! Ha!
Cody, I know that you already know this, but it warrants repeating …. It’s not what happens to us … it’s how we react to what happens to us that matters! You guys are great!
For the door popping open while traveling, I used a couple plastic clamps from Walmart to hold the plastic channel piece to the door at the top. The two clamps Hyper Tough 6-inch Trigger Ratcheting Bar Clamp and Spreader, Nylon holds the channel to the doors without scratching or denting. So far and 3000 miles later…. Our propane alarm went off a couple weeks ago at midnight. Tried to figure it out thinking it was the water sensor or fire alarm because after taking the bedroom fire alarm off it alarm quit. Then 5 minutes later it goes off again. I had to pull the sensor and unplug it (connector) and reset it and it has been fine ever since. We did notice we had our plastic (chrome look) trash bin directly against it. Could it be out gassing? So far no issues. Same with the door for us, easy fix, still wonder why. We have same flow through sensors TST. Probably need to get metal valves as well before we have issues. 18 months without a problem. Thank you again!
Well that’s an interesting thought on the off-gassing. We think it was probably the toilet because it would happen on hot travel days, after bathroom breaks. This one hasn’t screamed at all, so far, so fingers crossed!!
Napa has nice metal valve stems and they are not made in china. Just purchased them and had them installed. Super pleased and they fit the counter bore of aluminum wheels! Here’s the parts number: Part #: NTH 90416
Awesome! I talked to Discount Tire in Nashville, TN and while they were knowledgeable, they didn't have them on site. We could buy them and they would install them. I believe that we have found a place in Virginia that not only has several sizes on hand and would measure for us, they think that they have room for our rig. We may just bring them a couple of tires and see what happens! We're hoping for resolution soon! :)
There is a Discount Tire in Benton AR. They should be able to put steal valve stems on your trailer tires. I know them because we lived in West Little Rock for 5 years when they built that tire store about 6 years ago. We love Arkansas!
Where are you staying in Davis, WV. Blackwater Falls State Park? It is a nice park but some sights are unlevel and not big rig friendly. I pray it rains before you get there because there is barely a trickle of water going over the falls. All the trails around Blackwater are great for exploring, some have better views than others. Another places in the area to visit is Canaan Valley State Park, they have just expanded their campground and all rv sites are full hook ups. Thomas, WV is a nice little town to visit. They are credited for having the best pepperoni rolls in the state and you can check out some historic areas and hike down to Douglas Falls. The road to Douglas Falls is a little rough with potholes but worth the journey. Once you park and start off on foot the falls can be hard to spot if you are a first-time visitor. Once you get to the gate of no more vehicle traffic the trail is right down the hill from there to the Douglas Falls. It is a bit steep but with the low water somewhat easy to navigate. We live about an 45 minutes from Davis and always find something new to explore around there when we visit. There is a bike trail from Thomas to Hendricks that is all down hill and then you can go on into Parsons, WV. At one time you could go all the way into Elkins but the construction on corridor H may have the trail shut down in areas. Have a great time in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, it is Almost Heaven!
Yes! Canaan Valley has been a beautiful park so far! We love it! We visited Blackwater Falls briefly, per a few viewer suggestions and that was gold! ☺️ Thank you for the other suggestions! I was confused about someone mentioning pizza rolls, but I’m on the hunt! I’ll get to the bottom of this! 😁
@@RVUntethered WV is famous for their pepperoni rolls. They were introduced by Italian immigrants who made them for their lunch while working in the coal mines. There is a service station on the left before you enter Thomas that is said to be the best in the state. We stayed at Canaan a couple weeks ago and were on lot 49. Very big rig friendly and plenty of room for guest parking. You can do the ski lift and while on top trek over and get a grand look of the valley. There are so many things to do. Don’t miss Lindy Point overlook at Blackwater. Not much parking but the views are worth it. Also Hell Benders restaurant is great and so is Sirianni’s Pizza in Davis.
@@RVUntethered My family loves Hellbenders. They have huge burritos. The hellbender is a giant salamander found throughout WV and eastern and central US. Their burritos are almost the size of a hellbender. Try them out and let us know what you think.
Love your videos! Keep them coming! You should definitely go to Virginia and West Virginia. We have camped in several states and find that the those two states have some of the best scenery. History, mountains, caverns, waterfalls, horse ranches, great campgrounds, history, history, history. Question - I’m sure you’ve said before, but how old are your fur babies? Our two are both 11 yrs old and we were just curious.
We look forward to seeing you guys at the Hershey RV show! We live in MD 👍. We were curious where in West Virginia you were. We’re pretty close to WV also.
So excited you are finally getting WV marked off! My home state is so beautiful and I hope you think so too. Really hoping to run into you in Tampa! We have the big brother to your truck (Ford F350 blue dually) and I felt your pain when you busted the window. I wanted you to cry for you! Love watching your videos. ❤
We arrived to WV yesterday and it is so stunning! We have driven through a couple of times, but I don’t know why WV isn’t talked about more! It takes my breath away every time!
I had stainless steel valve stems put in my RV wheels at our local commercial tire dealership, they deal in semi truck and trailer tires. It's also where I purchased the Hercules H901st tires which are commercial grade tires and have a longer life than the normal RV tires.
I am pretty sure that I have one for you, but I’m struggling to find it! I will get back to you on this and if for some reason I can’t find it, we’ll do it. They need doing anyway. Deal? 🙂 As for the Schwintek, thankfully we haven’t had to do anything with it. There appears to be a reset process of holding the reset button on the slide controller and there’s also a way to disengage the motor to push it out manually. I would start with the owners manual on your rig, since it can vary. We had issues with ours prior to TH-cam, with our Jayco and it had a whole process to it and a panel that we had to remove, to get to it. It was not fun. I’m just not confident enough to say on that one. That is, however, the reason that we searched for an RV with as few Schwintek slides as possible.
@@RVUntethered thanks I seem to recall you did a short clip on "how you do it" not a how to 😉 but I can't find it either. Thanks for the schwintek tip, hasn't happened yet but want to be prepared if it does. Safe travels

@@RVUntethered we go every year, in the past we had a 42’ diesel pusher. Sold it in 2021 when our travel buddy passed, now time for a fifth wheel got a F450 on order trying to decide on a fifth wheel.
Recommendation for WA, Pioneer Trails RV park in Anacortes, WA. So many stunningly gorgeous places to hike. It’s one of those places I definitely want to go to again. Plan your stay though, we had to make reservations 6 months in advance. Dog friendly ♥️♥️ very clean workout area & laundry room!
We did not have the TST system but another one that had the screw on sensors and ran into the same problem, they broke the valve stem. A retired fleet mechanic that we stayed with as a Harvest Host informed me about the metal valve stems - they're a must!!! Our current rig does use the TST systems but it is the band inside the tire sensors so no worries on the stem now. However our unit is in the shop, after only two months of ownership, with what is believed to be a stress crack/separation of the front cap!!!😱😱 Needless to say we beside ourselves as we have only made 2 payments and our unit is back in for what we hope is warranty work😭😭
For the fridge try safety first appliance locks. You can pick them up at home Depot, we use these on our fridge as a precaution and they have been great! For the ding on the trucks cab corner, look into paintless dent repair. Those guys work wonders.
Thank you! I THINK I can strap them across the top, where it isn’t noticeable or in the way. I have them in the cart! I figure they are cheap enough to try!
Mar-Bar tire service in Hanover Pa. If it can wait until September. It’s a great place to go. They put my metal stems on with no problems. Easier to work with quick and pull through won’t need to disconnect. Just over an hour south west of Hershey.
I've replaced all metal stems to rubber...I had leaks and I had enough. The rubber stems have not leaked since then. Discount Tire is who we rely on. A few cabinet latches have been replaced with magnetic latches from Amazon. Safe travels.
Ok we had the fridge and freezer pop open while going through Dallas that was a huge mess. Also the instant pot and Keurig machine died from the fall. I got a couple of shower curtain rod's, put them in place before travel now. Amazon is your friend for valve stems might want to order an extra set too. Or change the sensor's to the non flow through they are lighter, and maybe not stress the valve stem as much.
Oh man!! 😩 You are 100% right! The flow-through sensors are SO heavy! I thought about sucking it up and changing, but I check my tires weekly (since we move weekly) and I hated the thought of taking them off every time. I know I’m just being lazy.
If you ever need those latches again, Home Depot and Lowes have them for a fraction of that price. As for the propane alarm, I installed an on/off switch. So now when the wife uses too much hair spray, or I bake another bread, or the dog farts to close to that thing, I can just turn it off for a few minutes until the coast is clear. See you at Hershey 🙂
😩😩I didn’t realize that they had the latches! We have another breaking I think, so I’m going to look at that first! Thanks! 😆Cracking up at your comment! We are pretty sure that the heat and our toilet was setting ours off, but we stopped paying attention to it. This one has yet to go off.
I had a local tire company here in Raymond NH put steel stems and balance all the tires, they tried to tell me it was not necessary for an RV, I sucked up my urge to argue/explain why I wanted it done and said “ you are probably right, but I still want it done”. Best 60.00 i spent, the balance made a big difference and with the steel stems and my tire minder sensors, I have not had any pressure loss all season due to the stem flexing.
We watch your videos all the time. Metal Valve Stems - we encountered the same issue and I purchased the metal stems at O’reilly Auto Parts. We live in Hurricane WV should you be passing through on your way to Davis WV you are welcome to stay on our property with us. If you haven't gotten your valve stems done yet, check with a Ford dealership. We had metal stems put on the car and dolly at the Ford dealership in Litchfield, Illinois. They knew exactly what we were talking about and why.
O’Rielly auto parts usually has steel valve stems in stock for like $8 a pair. Also, my wife and I traveled to Maine in 2022 with our 5th wheel. Late September into early October is beautiful with the fall colors. Places start closing around the middle of October though. We stayed in Trenton Maine at a great RV park.
Perfect, thank you! I may try that. I have fretted over the sizing, but if that’s the case, I could get several and return what doesn’t work. Thanks for the suggestions! That is a good point! I think we ran the UP of Michigan to the last week possible. Ha!
Hey guys, glad you had your windshield replaced. Stopping by to say hello and bring cheer and support to the channel. Great video my friends. #thinbluelanervlife
A trusted body shop is priceless! You’ve got me worried, we’ve been using those sensors on our tires with rubber valve stems. So far no issues. We do a winter Christmas Campout in December in Ohio. You are welcome to join us!! See you in Hershey!
There are a lot of mixed reviews on the forums but I figure it is worth doing. The flow-throw sensors are just SO heavy. 😊That’s so nice to offer. Ohio in December, eh? 😁 We spent so many winters in Illinois and Minnesota that we may have to move mountains to get Ang to agree to that! 😂
@@RVUntethered I completely understand. Once Mike retires we will not be “winter” camping. We will head to warm weather after Christmas. The offer is always available though. Safe travels!
Discount tire really saved us once. They were Pros. Tucson Arizona. That was our Trip to Hell Trip Cost us over 10000 dollars. They realized our real problem right away where 2 other stores before them did not. Love you guys
😁 You got it! 👆 You might not be happy with an upcoming video, where we showcase our favorite place ever! Our “hidden gem”. I bet you know what it is! 😬
We love Discount Tire! We really didn’t have one nearby, but we talked to one in Nashville (where we were headed) and they didn’t. They would install them if we had them. We are thinking that we needed to buy them (in person or online) and that will help.
We have a toy hauler with 14 ply tires and I have to take them to a local shop that only works on large trucks because the other tire places around will not do 14 ply tires on aluminum rims. They all tell me that their machine could damage the rims. I now buy the tires online and take them to the truck place and all they use are steel valve stems. Maybe look for a shop that services commercial fleet trucks.
They are called metal valve stems. you can get these at NAPA auto parts, for $4.99 each. I worked at A tire store back in the 70s best I remember most valve stems for tires are the same.
I’m glad I have metal valve stems on both my car that I tow behind my motorhome and all the wheels on the motorhome. Do your best not to miss Idaho in the coming year. It’s absolutely a beautiful state.
We wouldn’t miss it! My Idaho folder is HUGE! I think it’s probably underrated but some of the pictures that I see are stunning! We are pretty stoked about our West trip.
I have the same TPMS as you guys and I had to go to NAPA Auto Parts and get the valve stems, and then take it to the tire people to have them put it in on my rims. But obviously you have it taken care of already by now👍🏻🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
We haven’t been able to get them yet, but hopefully soon. Several have recommended Napa and Oreilleys and I think that may fix my issue of the sizing. I’ll just buy several. Thank you!
We are happy to hear that you will be at the Hershey Show in September. We are 2 hours from there, easy day trip. We will probably go Friday or Saturday. We hope to get a chance to meet you two. Will you be going through the Poconos on your way to Hershey? Your truck looks great. Looks like your friends take great pride in their work. Safe travels!
If you come to RI Fishermans memorial cg is best but you have to book a year out with reserve america. Charlestown Breachway and Burlingame state park are good also but no hookups as with many state parks in New England
We don’t have the same trailer as you n I ordered steel valve stems on Amazon but they didn’t work. My wheels have a counterbore in wheels that the nut wouldn’t fit in. My buddy had steel valve stems that the nut was inside the wheel instead of on outside. Not sure where he got them but they worked. Sorry I’m not much help but they do make them with nut inside that fit. Good luck everyone finding stems
Glad y’all were able to get everything rest. We’ll be in Hershey the 12-13, hope we run into y’all. Virginia was one of my favorite states to visit on my AT through hike.
Glad you had your windshield replaced. We are also planning on an East Coast trip too. In joy watching two especially when you two work on repairing the RV together. Always funny. Have fun. Bob & Terry never too old.
Yay! As devastating as that experience must have been things turned out incredibly well. Your truck looks great and you were given great video opportunities too. Win-win🏁
I broke a valve stem at a Goodyear, they did not have a metal valve stem that would fit my wheel. Now I just change valve stems everytime I replace the tires. I use TST system and in 7 years have had 1 vavle stem break that was 6 years old. Discount locally didn't have them. It is all dependent on the specific wheel that you have.
Thank you! I think that I am going to try a local hardware store (even if I have to buy several) and see how that does. The sizing is what has me fretting, but maybe I’m overthinking it.
I have a Reflection and started with Goodyear Endurance. They just didn’t seem to last and tread depth wasn’t enough for me. So we went with a 16 ply all steel tire at a tire shop that normally does semi trucks. And they automatically put on steel valves steams. Southern Tire Mart is the name of the company. We live in the panhandle of Florida . Not sure if they are nationwide.
Haha Southern Tire Mart is where we went in Arkansas and although they were one of the few that didn’t tell us we were idiots, they couldn’t figure it out. Thank you for the information though! We have a lot of great suggestions now, so I am feeling like we can get this done soon. Even if I have to go buy every size they have! 😁 We will be the crazy people in the store, with piles of valve stems on the counter.
That’s so nice! Thank you! We are booked for the week of Hershey, but we do have a gap before that week, waiting on some things . We might take you up on that! ☺️
OH no the ice box came open again. Tire pressure monitors are destroying my valve stems. The screws on top of stove are coming out. I installed a set of centramatic tire balancers and it solved a lot of my problems. No more lose screws found on the floor. No more ice box door coming open. No broken tire stems. Tires last a lot longer. Centramatic balancers are more than just the wheel and tire. It balances the entire axle assembly, including the wheel, drum, disc, hub, and bearings.
I have the steel valve stems, American Tire did it for me. Yes girl, I like that tuna in a bag also. And I have to get a new Tono cover ( bed cover ) for the back of my truck and I was going to ask what kind you have and do you like it.
I dropped a link for mine. I like it. It’s cheap and pretty sturdy. Easy on & off. It’s spent every night outside since October of 2021 when we installed it. That said, if you want access to the first third of the bed space against the cab the cover is going to be in your way. You can take it off easily with one person, but it’s a hassle if you’re in a hurry. If money were no object I would get the metal push button retractable cover. It takes up a lot less bed space & gives you full access. They’re awesome, but very expensive
I was told at a truck tire dealership where I needed new steel valve stems. They said they do not make steel valve stems they are brass valve stems. Some look like steel but they are made out of brass.
Way to go checking off the "to do list". Oh and Cody, you sure messed up that window! 😅 When you eventually head west, a great "off the beaten path" camp spot with LOT's of history is City of Rocks in southern Idaho. Also, visit the hot springs in Malad, ID. Mark them down in your book. Happy travels!!
Thanks! We were about 45 min from Hot Springs. We had some options, but we’d like to see if we can kept from burning a half day (running back and forth). I’m hoping we finally found a good place! It is odd that Hot Springs (and the larger commercial business we visited), didn’t seem to know what we were talking about.
When your in California try and stay at LAKE SHASTA. It is so beautiful and the lake is huge!!! We camped their all the time when I was growing up. Just a great place!!!❤ Cheri from Massachusetts
I had the stems on my Reflection 303rls changed to metal at a local place up here. They didn't seem to think it was odd. Now I am thinking maybe I got lucky. Great job on the truck! Fun video Thank you!
One of the viewers mentioned a place a little over an hour from where we were, so maybe WE were lucky and in places that don’t know. Haha! I did call Nashville Discount Tire and they didn’t have them, but would install them. I’m thinking I order them and roll with it.
Something that will sometimes cause propane alarms to go off randomly is gas...and I'm not talking about propane or natural gas. I'm talking about dogs. If they like to lie down near the propane detector, then...release gas....the alarm may go off. Often, the dog figures it out before the humans. Of course, that's not the issue _when towing._
We use a short valve stem, it is still rubber in the rim but brass outside overall length is about 1 1/2”. I use these with the TST and have no problem towing for over 10k. Discount tires do stock them as we have had them installed in MO and FL.
@@RVUntethered Our guy balanced the tires with the TST on them. Seems like it may make a difference because he asked for them. Another different time we had to change a tire out and we stopped at a Discount Tire and they did have them at that location.
We had our steel valve stems on our Rockwood trailer installed at Princeton Indiana at Best One tire and service. They had to grind down a very small area to allow for the metal stem to fit, you can’t tell it when looking at them.. We used them for another 2 years until we got our Grandesign trailer. We use the same TPS. As soon as possible we need to get ours done.
Hey, when y’all make it out to Oregon, Fort Steven’s is an awesome camp ground just outside of Astoria on the Oregon coast. We now live in South Carolina, but when we retire (13 months and 3 days) we will definitely put that on our list. I would really love to make it to Hershey for the show. It’s hard to believe it coming around again. Time is flying by! God Bless.
I had to look at a map! Ha! We are headed to Chestertown and St Michael, so it’s a little stretch from you on this trip I guess. We have three main events that we are attending on this trip before we book it South for an important event. But we do plan another trip to the Northeast in 2025 for sure!

You’re awesome! Thank you!
Kansas Tire did it without even asking when I got new tires in Hays, Kansas. It blows my mind that it is this hard to get done.
Thank you for the other suggestions!
@@Angel1Alt Ooh man am I going to hear it now! Cody tried to talk me into going to Hell Benders and I said No. HAHAHAHA
@@RVUntethered My family loves Hellbenders. They have huge burritos. The hellbender is a giant salamander found throughout WV and eastern and central US. Their burritos are almost the size of a hellbender.
Try them out and let us know what you think.
@@Angel1Alt We tried the pizza rolls!! yum!
Charlie (red) just turned 13 and Eris (black) will be 7 later in the year. 😊
Davis has turned out to be stunning so far! Love it!
We look forward to seeing you guys at the Hershey RV show! We live in MD 👍. We were curious where in West Virginia you were. We’re pretty close to WV also.
Awesome! We are attending the show Friday and Saturday. We have a Meet & Greet on Sat @ 2:30 too.
We landed in Davis, WV yesterday.
I got my valve stems at O’Reilys auto parts.
Thank you!!
I got the steel valve stems at NAPA Auto parts and brought them to a tire shop to install and balance the tires
Thank you!
Little dudette was cute as a button Ang...
She is so cute! Helping the ratings! Ha!
Thank you very much!
I had Borg valve stems put on my dualies. Never have had a problem with them. Good luck with everything!
I have heard that those are great! I forgot about them. Thanks!
Any chance doing a short segment of lubricating the rack and pinion slides? Is there an override on the Schwin slide? Safe travels!!
I am pretty sure that I have one for you, but I’m struggling to find it! I will get back to you on this and if for some reason I can’t find it, we’ll do it. They need doing anyway. Deal? 🙂
As for the Schwintek, thankfully we haven’t had to do anything with it.
@@SmokeyBear2001 Sorry about that! I found it. I knew which state we were in, but we shoot a lot. This is it below, around the 17:00 min mark. Cody needs to do it again, so he may still do it on film as well.

Hey guys 👋🙂,
I just need to say .. I love your little baby doggies. 🤫
😂They are a mess! If you want to babysit for a month or 7, you can! 😂 Kidding! I think we’d miss them.
Cody, stop beating yourself up it’s fixed and you’re the only one it bothers. Travel plans sound really interesting, we will be looking for y’all in January!
Perfect! Are you going to the RV show, or you’ll be in Florida?
Hopefully we’ll have some details for Florida soon.
Thank you so much!! WA is Cody’s bucket list state, so my bar is high!
However our unit is in the shop, after only two months of ownership, with what is believed to be a stress crack/separation of the front cap!!!😱😱 Needless to say we beside ourselves as we have only made 2 payments and our unit is back in for what we hope is warranty work😭😭
Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that about your rig!
Thank you!!!!!

Camper exchange in Belleville illinois. Install my steel valve stems
Thanks!!
I've replaced all metal stems to rubber...I had leaks and I had enough. The rubber stems have not leaked since then. Discount Tire is who we rely on. A few cabinet latches have been replaced with magnetic latches from Amazon. Safe travels.
Nice! Thanks!
Oh man!! 😩
You are 100% right!
Yes... much cheaper and readily available.
Thank you!

Perfect, thank you!
They are called metal valve stems. you can get these at NAPA auto parts, for $4.99 each. I worked at A tire store back in the 70s best I remember most valve stems for tires are the same.

Make sure to visit MT Washington Clog railroad in New Hempshire.
Perfect, thank you!!
Etrailer can supply them.. bought from them before.
Thank you!
For the tires, try going to a truck stop and see if they have the value stems you want.
Thank you! I really expected Loves to have them, but we were in a pretty desolate area.
A lot of tractors have metal valvestems so if you haven't got it fixed yet maybe try a farm store.

As my husband always says, “Stuff happens”. It looks great!!
😁 When you’re right, you’re right! Thank you!
Interesting! I have wanted to check that out. I haven’t looked in to it very hard though. It makes sense.
I have the steel valve stems, American Tire did it for me. Yes girl, I like that tuna in a bag also. And I have to get a new Tono cover ( bed cover ) for the back of my truck and I was going to ask what kind you have and do you like it.
amzn.to/3WqrRvB
Gotcha!

😂😂 I wouldn’t put it past our dogs. We think it may have been our toilet because it was really hot and happened right after bathroom breaks.
We use a short valve stem, it is still rubber in the rim but brass outside overall length is about 1 1/2”. I use these with the TST and have no problem towing for over 10k. Discount tires do stock them as we have had them installed in MO and FL.
Thank you for the info! I’m hoping that I get lucky this week! 🙂
Oh wow! I think I just need to order mine, but I have fretted over the sizing. I may just order them all and roll with it.

I had to look at a map! Ha! We are headed to Chestertown and St Michael, so it’s a little stretch from you on this trip I guess. We have three main events that we are attending on this trip before we book it South for an important event. But we do plan another trip to the Northeast in 2025 for sure!
