top or bottom. depends on what challenge you go for, that said you get runes from your cards on your player at that show the same rune as the 2 on the left side of a challange you are picking but most have a top and bottom challange. depending of what you like of the symbol you pick top or bottom. you then look att all your cards counting out the runes of the same kind thats on the challange. you throw your 3 basic + the number of runes you have on your board that matches the 2 on the challenge, after if you succseed you the tuc it under the cards of the same tier with either top or bottom as you choosen showing. that wil give you one more rune if there is one for next challenge.
TLDR: No I dont thing so. I don't actually find the solo mode to be that good. I think I would play it normally on my own instead. Its beautiful and one of my favorite games but in this edition there is more interaction between players and it does make it more fun.

Man i need help with this, i think my boy and i were playing wrong. What allows you to cast runes? The marks at the top of the cards you earn?

Cards you gain from act 2 go under your Motivation card, so bodyguard would have gone under Trained by a Master.
This is not true. He can add cards under act 2 olny after act 1 is finished, eg has 3 cards
You are allowed to put a higher acts card under a lower act but not the other way round (eg act 2 under act 3)
