It's unfortunate to see people jump the bandwagon, as Hwasa was on a YT live a week or two ago in this attire and no one batted an eye, but as soon as an anti mistranslated it, people just saw red with the intent to slander. I'm a POC but not of African descent, so to the claims where Hwasa was appropriating Nigerian culture and dress, I'm not going to tell you what it and isn't. Instead, take the time to read the relevant commentary from a Nigerian, and how Stan Twitter was quick to accuse Hwasa of appropriating them: twitter.com/ahyhyejin/status/1287094464465575936 This is information you can take and make a decision with, but I wanted to inform you amongst all the backlash Hwasa received, a lot of it was sparked from a purposeful mistranslation that fueled the fire on Twitter yet again to attack Hwasa for her past actions. Hwasa was born with a body, face, features and skin tone that is fundamentally against the beauty norms in South Korea. However her ignorance has shown many times over the years, and in a place like SK, CA is a very blurry concept if not non-existent. I strongly advocate for her company, members and fans to continue to hold her accountable. We will continue to. However, what happened this weekend and the intent to slander her online was just unacceptable.

I hope you can self evaluate your priorities as a person, and call out the people that are wrong. I won’t accept trash idols in 2020.

Coleen G. I really could care less if she fits korea’s beauty standards or not. It’s never an excuse to take comfort in using/exploiting black culture just because she’s darker. I really don’t see many Hwasa fans holding her accountable. Months ago I had a convo on twitter when someone asked for a bts x hwasa collab. I knew that mamamoo was seen as problematic and for obvious reasons and when I said that mamamoo was problematic so it could tarnish bts’ reputation hundreds of moo moos replied with excuses of why they aren’t problematic. Hence why I really haven’t seen any moo moos holding her accountable. If you want to keep supporting her after everything she’s done go ahead but there is a very long list of stuff she has done wrong and they did not all take place at the beginning of her career. They kept happening repetitively over many years. Regarding this situation, it may be a misunderstanding (others can continue to feel offended as i cannot make them doing anything) but the extensive racist and ignorant things that she has done over the years still have impact and I am choosing not to support her as a person or an artist. I don’t want to cancel her either tho.

I respect your decision to stop supporting Hwasa. I will not stop supporting her. For her sake hope she can truly understand and learn from her past mistakes, and more importantly, show us that she has. Again, you're not required to agree with me on anything here. I understand how confusing the recent events have been, especially in a rapid age of the internet when information (whether accurate or inaccurate) spreads like wildfire. Some things I'd like to point out (not to invalidate peoples' feelings on her past actions, but to clear up the misinformation spread over this weekend):
The translations about dressing up in Nigerian attire to SCARE people is FALSE. This is where a lot of the heat originated from over the weekend. The anti's on Twitter conveniently cropped out the text from the preview calling it luxurious sauna wear. It's unfortunate to see people jump the bandwagon, as Hwasa was on a YT live a week or two ago in this attire and no one batted an eye, but as soon as an anti mistranslated it, people just saw red with the intent to slander.
I'm a POC but not of African descent, so to the claims where Hwasa was appropriating Nigerian culture and dress, I'm not going to tell you what it and isn't. This is information you can take and make a decision with, but I wanted to inform you amongst all the backlash Hwasa received, a lot of it was sparked from a purposeful mistranslation that fueled the fire on Twitter yet again to attack Hwasa for her past actions. I agree with you that Hwasa has appropriated black culture in the past with durags (she wore it once and her dancers wore it another time).
Hwasa was born with a body, face, features and skin tone that is fundamentally against the beauty norms in South Korea. I think to a degree, she finds a lot of strength from other cultures like Black culture and only ever has the intent to APPRECIATE the culture. Never once has she shown intent to make a joke of it. However her ignorance has shown many times over the years, and in a place like SK, CA is a very blurry concept if not non-existent. I strongly advocate for her company, members and fans to continue to hold her accountable. We will continue to. However, what happened this weekend and the intent to slander her online was just unacceptable.

It was a repeated action, where she clearly did not mean her Apologies. I can point out her flaws and imperfections, if it effects and harms others. Thousands of black kpop fans especially those of Hwasa were deeply hurt and felt humiliated and degraded by her. But yeah go off I guess. No one is asking her to be perfect, but when you make the same insensitive comments and actions over and over again, then it’s not a mistake. she is just an awful person.
Double moralists? Don’t make me laugh, I’ve never once done CA, said something racist, or made a group of people feel hurt or humiliated, because I was grown enough to educate myself on stuff like this. This ain’t your everyday mistake, that you are making it out to be, so why don’t you direct this attitude of yours to the actual problem??

Coleen G. I really could care less if she fits korea’s beauty standards or not. It’s never an excuse to take comfort in using/exploiting black culture just because she’s darker. I really don’t see many Hwasa fans holding her accountable. Months ago I had a convo on twitter when someone asked for a bts x hwasa collab. I knew that mamamoo was seen as problematic and for obvious reasons and when I said that mamamoo was problematic so it could tarnish bts’ reputation hundreds of moo moos replied with excuses of why they aren’t problematic. Hence why I really haven’t seen any moo moos holding her accountable. If you want to keep supporting her after everything she’s done go ahead but there is a very long list of stuff she has done wrong and they did not all take place at the beginning of her career. They kept happening repetitively over many years. Regarding this situation, it may be a misunderstanding (others can continue to feel offended as i cannot make them doing anything) but the extensive racist and ignorant things that she has done over the years still have impact and I am choosing not to support her as a person or an artist. I don’t want to cancel her either tho.

The line of appreciation and appropriation is thin and people cross it without knowing. Context, intent and perception are important, but we can't truly know the latter since we are not in Hwasa/other idol's minds. Not saying this is good or bad, just stating.
Calling Hwasa racist is a huge thing and shouldn't be taken lightly. Yes, she is ignorant. However, being racially insensitive and racist are two different things. And you can agree to disagree with me, but from Hwasa's actions, I do not think she is racist. Racism implies an intent to hate others for being a race different from them and treating someone less than.
With the BLM movement continuing, I've been doing a lot more introspection into this. Much like not all antis speak for all of Twitter, not all Moo Moos speak for the fandom. Just know there are people who do their best to hold Hwasa, RBW and Mamamoo accountable in the ways that they can and it may not always be through social media. Korean Moos have been helping us iMoos find ways to garner RBW and Hwasa's attention locally.
Anyways, thanks for engaging with me in this and having a mature conversation. I respect your decision to stop supporting Hwasa. I will not stop supporting her. For her sake hope she can truly understand and learn from her past mistakes, and more importantly, show us that she has.
