The very end of the game, where you go to the incinerator with Lou, was the strongest emotional reaction I probably had with any medium, ever. I bawled my eyes out, and my wife was really worried, she thought something horrible happened.
My wife caught me all misty eyed during that part too. I couldn't contain myself. I just had a baby a couple months prior which sort of added to the emotions.
On my second play through where i was doing all 5 stars i got harmonica from the musician, and right before entering incinerator i sat down on the grass field and played one last gig for lou. It was my way of saying sorry, good bye and thankyou, But it was even more heart breaking to see lou not react to it. Kojima is Genius of our time.
I'd have said that before getting the Director's Cut. The final mission in that where you go to the cemetery after learning more about Mules and Fragile, along with the song that plays, that made me sob, too.
@Henry James I am amazed how Many people turn that really liked Death Stranding. I recognize I am a bit obsessed with the game. I played the Games 3 times (one completely offline) and even bought merchandising. Super cool EV coffe cups and a superb umbrella. Yeah definitely my favourite this generation.
Does anybody else find it quite incredible, that Koji has again made an absolutely visionary piece of story, this time centered around the theme of social isolation, and sharing goods as the last, remaining interaction between humans, done by the delivery man? And the whole thing being released just few months before the global corona-insanity? Mind boggling, to say the least. It's either this guy is a prophetic genious, or he has an inside man within the illuminati.
I‘ll go with prophetic genius. Leave it to Kojima to take the most boring quest-type in a game - the fetch-quest - and turn it into an actually engaging and fun game mechanic … and also have that not be the defining feature of the Game as that „title“ goes to the social strand system. Kojima is my favorite game designer and his Metal Gear series (and also Death Stranding) are my favorite games.
@@fgdj2000 I recently got into American Truck Simulator and I love Death Stranding for the same reasons. There is something immensely satisfying to me about hauling and delivering cargo. Of course the game has other elements that make it great but damn it I just love carrying shit around for some reason
It's a game about making connections, and yet the gaming community is very divided on it. I have loved every minute of it, currently on my 3rd playthrough, for whatever reason, it just doesn't get old.
@@Chonkems I think because some people are just too stuck in their ways and want a game to be life or death challenging and need stuff to be fast and/ or visceral. I always love exploration in games and don’t like combat sections if they feel forced. For instance in early Uncharted some combat sections feel like the developers said „hey, we need to keep people interested and our beautiful environments and climbing mechanics (cough) might not cut it“.
This was a game where you had to ignore reviews and play it for yourself. Once I did, I absolutely loved the game. It's unique and that is something you can't say about many games these days. Almost a masterpiece!
I just put 72 hours in and finished the campaign finally. The most addicting game I’ve played in a long long time and so incredibly polished. A game we are so lucky to experience as PlayStation owners! The fact you can lay a ladder down for someone else to use and vice versa is simply amazing along with the like system. The gameplay mechanics are just pure genius. I love Japan!
Right there with you. Bw 2 play-throughs, I have 250+ hours. I finished the game on normal difficulty with around 120 hours, and immediately started my 2nd playthrough on hard and spent 127 hours on that one. I don’t know what it is about this game, but I was addicted. I still think about this game. I wish I could forget everything I know about it so that I could experience it for the first time all over again.
No joke but I've watched alot of post release videos on death stranding where they try to put across why they love or hate this game and why the game is good or bad but by far this is the best video I've seen on death stranding. Well done eurothug you have made a great video for me it's the best 1 I have watched. Shame I can only like it once or I would have spammed the touchpad
nah, i think it's even more impressive and/or shocking that it predicted such an event right before it happened. it aged better than any recent game, likely
Death Stranding is one of the many games in recent years that have shown me the sheer power video games have as an artistic medium. The story, gameplay, world and themes are all incredibly well thought. This is definitely not only one of the best video games I've played, but one of the most touching experiences I've had in entertainment
It actually made me cry...I love the characters and was really touched by the story. I'm less emotional than I was a few years ago, so it's not as easy to make me cry anymore. But I felt pure grief and sympathy for a specific character.
@@fiel81 yeah when she woke up I literally paused the cutscene, stood up, and burst into tears while pacing around the room. This was like 4:30am after a marathon session through the finale (which seems to happen with basically every Kojima game), so I was in really deep and in a fragile state lol. I’m a pretty stoic and cynical dummy and I’m almost never hit like that from any media, but the game just earns it so thoroughly. Also, Reedus’ performance is exceptional there. You really feel his despair and panic, and it’s just so pathetic seeing him desperately handle this tiny little thing. The entire BB/Cliff arc was excellent too.
When you were talking about films that may have inspired death stranding, it reminds me he was posting a lot of film posters for William Friedkin’s “Sorcerer” on his instagram. A film about four men who have to transport very dangerous cargo over very difficult terrain; also containing heavy metaphors for limbo
I am in a dark period of my life at the moment , and playing this game a little everyday I find so much comfort and solace... From the hardship of setting off alone, to bridging connections and realizing the more you help others the more they help you opened my eyes to a lot of ideas in general, not just when I'm gaming. Its quite amazing the positive effect it has on myself and many others!
First of all, I'm getting bit older. I'm over 40 years old. I played Super Mario Bros on the original NES and CRT TV back in the 80ties. I've been a gamer all my life. I think Death Stranding is easily in my top 10 game experiences. This will be a long text but I prefer real discussion and substance over these kinds short ADHD "mid game" types of comments. Lol. Here's how it went down. I understand that it's not for everyone. It took me 20 hours to get into the game. The Hideo Kojima thing where you have to learn the world and mechanics, through endless tutorials and exposition...it was heavy and exhausting. At first. I played all Metal Gears games up until MGS 4, which I loved. Just haven't really had the same urge to play V as for me personally, I felt that the story ended with 4. I've read somewhere that Hideo felt the same way, that he was ready to start moving on to different things, which is understandable. Anyway - with Metal Gears games, you already were acquainted to the lore and core mechanics if you played the franchise part by part. Death Stranding has the difficult task that it has to teach the mechanics as well as to do the world building to the player, and the heavy exposition is Kojimas thing. His games are usually brilliantly designed and detailed but they require patience. They are also in contrast, extremely playable and fun at their core - and I think Death Stranding is the epitome of Kojimas brand. Anyway. First 20 hours. I wasn't sure how I felt about the game. The expositions and tutoring the game does....man it was heavy. Also, in the first area I was online. I played on Hard but it felt like the game was too easy. Everything was already built. I started playing on last September. I got to the second area and then I kinda paused on playing this game until December. Then I decided to go offline. I had to build everything myself. Every ladder, bridge, generator and highway was something I had to grind . Plan the routes and most importantly, grind the materials for highways. The pacing suddenly started to feel like it was now on MY OWN terms. Everything took longer, but it was my own grinding. So the world felt more hostile, more lonely, but every little step forward felt more rewarding. I was getting sucked in and extremely engaged. I think this is one of the biggest hurdles of Death Stranding. It requires a LOT of patience. And you have to kinda make up your mind whether to play online or offline. For me, playing offline was definitely the better choice. I've discussed this with different people and it's been amusing how divisive this game has been, even within the people who love it. I've gotten comments like "but playing offline is a disservice to the theme of connection". Please - I think it's a sign of a great game that it can be enjoyed in such different ways. From my perceived "solitude" the world of Death Stranding felt hauntingly beautiful. Amelie alone on her beach, while Sam is alone on his journey. But we are never truly alone, and that's the message... Anyway, I'm getting off tangent. I really really love this game and my decision to get a star from every contract and grind completely offline was because I wanted to savour every moment. I've never had an experience in my 30 years of gaming where it takes me 20 hours just to get into the game, during we which I'm feeling a bit "meh" about the game play - but loving the atmosphere and concepts - and then, only then I'm slowly understanding that this thing is amazing and one of the most beautiful, rewarding games I've ever played. Also, and I guess this next paragraph could be considered a slight spoiler, not about the story but about the pacing and the game play loop design: I absolutely loved that after majority of the game I've been grinding for highways... Then without holding my hand, the game takes you to snowy mountains - and if you start experimenting with zip-lines, it feels like it's another completely new side to explore. You know those Premium runs between the mountain preppers? Huge loads between them , gotta make back and fort runs under 10 mins... The game doesn't flatout just tell you how to do it. But you climb the mountains and start creating those zip line networks...like another allegory of making connections, but in a game play loop. Kojimas games can be really wonderful in how they create the narrative and the meaning, down to the game play itself. It's been sad to see these "walking simulator" comments online as it's clear to anyone reading this point, who have played this game, that it's really really not. People who call Death Stranding a "walking simulator" are people who lack patience. The game teaches you walking first. Before you can drive, zip-line, use buddy bots, floating carriers, build structures and highways... Before all that, you have to LEARN to walk. And learn the story. And the mechanics of it. This is the biggest hurdle of the game. If you don't have patience in learning how to "walk"... You fail to reach the deeper level and then you think there's nothing but walking. The perceived emptiness of it's world creates a mirror. If you only see "walking"...I'm sorry but that might be a sign you're not looking hard enough. This game is a masterpiece. But it requires a LOT of patience. When people call this "walking simulator" I know those are the folks that didn't have the patience. And that's fine. But it's like saying Super Mario 64 is a "jumping simulator" because Mario, among many things, jumps. Walking simulator? "Dear Ester" is a walking simulator. This was a highly original, brilliantly designed video game with a wonderful atmosphere and mechanics that take time to learn. But then again, I'm +40 years old, I want substance, I've already played the short and shallow games. I already jumped around as Mario. I want something deeper. In summary...If I'd have to review this game with one sentence: *I don't mind walking the first 20 hours, if I can fly through the mountains in the end.* I think in the future it will be more and more appreciated as time usually is kinder to these kinds of slow burn gems in the long run.
You can clearly see the passion and love put in this video, almost as equal or perhaps more so than the game itself. Thanks for doing this Eurothug! You just made a fellow porter appreciate this game even more ❤️🙏🏼
eurothug4000 finally finished watching your video. It’s a crime to put BB’s Theme on that final seconds. Now i’m all tears again! And man, your commentary start strong and ended on an even higher notes! This has been one of the most fulfilling 58 minutes video I ever watch.
Wow. Congratulations on the analysis. Death Stranding is a lot to unpack, and while the game gives you a lot of space to think about what is happening in the world suddenly you trigger a song and is all so breathtaking. Yes, there are Kojima quirks and some things are out of place like the bit where Deadman is in Cliff's beach and goes "I'm in a sewer and this is terrifying, but I feel like we are bonding Sam." But with his interviews, you get why Deaman is more comfortable with Lou and Sam. And I could go on all day with the things that are not exactly clear like the fact that Sam could not go on the Beach by himself and why he has all that hand marks on him before the game even starts. Or visually like on Vietnam that looking up you can see most of the detail of the forest is hidden and only shows on an explosion or when you scan it with odradek. Thank you for putting into words the reasons why I love this game. Keep on keeping on.
@@gottagowork On one interview Kojima said that Sam got a handprint every time that he dies. But from start, he got tons of them on a scale that I cannot even keep track of them. Fragile can jump on a whim to the beach. Heartman only goes when his heart stops (which is often). But how does Sam goes to visit Amelie when he was a child? My dark theory is that he got killed over and over again to enhance his DOOMs by Bridget or ordered by her (happened before) so he could expand the Chyral network being a repatriate there is no downside on this method. I really want to know more about Sam's past but that would explain why he hated Bridget so much.
My game of the Generation. Walking simulation my arse, it’s the deepest ‘game’ I’ve ever experienced. The end credits (lol) came after 192hrs and I’m not done, no, now on to chapter 15.
Yeah, people are missing out because of their narrow minded brain, this game is so good. I personally hate slow games, but this game didn't feel slow at all
@@ThDragoomba thing is i was too narrow minded wtf should I play it but after 10 hours I was thinking are we ever gonna get another game like this cause I was in love with this game as I waited 1.5 years for this game to play pity me.
@@d3vilhun732 yeah, I don't think we are ever gonna get any game as innovative as this, cuz death stranding didn't sell well, cuz nowadays all people wanna play, is cod, fifa, WWE, ass creed, etc
@@ThDragoomba absolutely cod fcked everything up ass creed has no innovation still hate ubisoft this decade i think the people have no taste in gaming to be honest.
This video matches the quality of Whitelight's 7 hour long masterpiece while somehow adding more points and presenting existing ones in a unique way. Thank you for your work
I cannot express how grateful I am to you for making this video. You've perfectly encapsulated why this game resonates with me, and why it saved my life during a phase of crippling depression. I'm now in uni studying game dev so that one day I make games like this. Seriously, thank you
I'm playing this game for 3 years now. My father gave it to me 3 days after it's release, and i played, played played and played. I bassically forgot to play a lot of other games when i got it. I had 12 years, and i was sooooo addicted to play everyday Fortnite, but when this game came... I couldn't play anything else! I was ammoused by this world. 3 years later, 1 month before Death stranding anniversary, my father passed away. Now, i'm replaying this game so i can get the platinum, this is, by far the game who makes me remenber my father. Great video! I love it!
I love this game with every figment of my being. Cause I feel I'm connected to this game so much. The loneliness, connections, and walks. My friend picked this game up a while ago and I'm excited to talk about the game with him. I agree with you on Higgs. His performance by Troy Baker is like my second favorite of all time (to Kratos in gow4). My second is Cliff. I'll never forget this game and I'm anticipating Kojima's next adventure.
You’re the first reviewer I’ve seen that mentioned the Higgs journal. A lot of reviewers pass him off as an eh antagonist but I found that there was so many more layers to him then what immediately meets your eyes. You just have to search for the layers yourself through his journals and stuff. I feel like anybody that passed him off as an average villain would change their minds if they discovered all his journals in the game.
I love this review and analysis. You clearly put so much thought in the scripting and pinpointing exactly what you liked. It was very unique and special, thank you.
all of this mirrors why i also love this game, it is hard to put into words what exact feelings navigating the world of death stranding fill me with but you articulate it so well! well done!
Really enjoyed this game, during release. That ending though! About a quarter way through your video, mate and you're already making me want to replay. Good job!
I don’t know how but Death Stranding made me appreciate life more. This game is truly a life changing experience and I really do feel bad for those who couldn’t get into it.
I just beat the game last week, and everything you said hits the nail on the head. There's really nothing quite like it, and its a world I love revisiting and just being a part of.
It’s nice to be here with people who truly appreciate this game. I’ve played video games since the 80s and have never come across one that was so emotionally impactful..
45:50 The term "rainbow baby" also refers to the child born next after experiencing a miscarriage or stillbirth, which is what BB-28 was for Sam after he lost his unborn child.
This is a lovely analysis. Learning about that back half of the incinerator was really cool. Thanks for showing. That Japanese gate standing there reminds me of one of the lines from Fragile: "The timefall fast forwards whatever it touches, but it can't wash everything away. The past just won't let go." I've been playing it a second time. It's such a beautiful game. It's hard to describe. Everything in it is so beautifully crafted... It took me a while to realize the seam was where you died. It was a really cool realization...
I know this video is from a while ago, but i finally recently beat this game, and i am so glad the main consensus is that this game is loved, almost cherished, and that Kojima knows that. This story touhced me in a way that i didn't know Kojima still could, and I've been around since Solid 1. The amount of care that people speak of this game is usually reserved for a Souls game, and it just makes me happy, and this video really captures the feelings of love this game made me feel.
Congratulations on finally getting this released, I've been looking forward to it for a while (for at least as long as you've been hyping it)! Halfway through, it's as good as expected; best wishes in the new year
this is the best review/analysis of death stranding I've seen so far. Every single point was spot on and I especially relate to the opening of the video.
This game is the next level of gaming experience, ppl are not ready yet for that kind of pure art based game. I bet Death Stranding 2 is coming in 2022 or 2023 and it will be like MGS2 something totally unexpected for a sequel, we are not red E
We already know that Kojima's next project is going to be more "horror-centric" according to his tweets and interviews, but I would like to see a continuation or expansion to the world of Death Stranding; no matter how unlikely.
The birthday detail is something I’ve never seen before and is absolutely crazy!!! This game is so personalized providing so many little details and so much to explore. A love letter for the true video gamers that can get lost in this world
I've been binging your content and I have to say it is CRIMINAL that you don't have more subs. Your content is too polished and well-written to not have max reach. Keep up the excellent work!
I have over 1000hrs so far, across two PSN accounts, two Platinums and I am aiming for a third by playing the vanilla edition on PS4 with no online assist. I still can't put my finger on exactly why this game has captivated me so much, and I feel a total idiot for allowing the negativity around it to influence my decision to avoid it until just before this summer. But from that first chapter I was hooked, and as soon as I had completed the campaign and achieved Platinum I immediately ressurected an old PSN account and started a fresh new playthrough. No other game has held my attention, inspired my imagination, made me feel raw emotions like Death Stranding...and I cannot wait for DS2 to drop. Great video.
I watched sooo many videos and listened to discussions about Death Stranding and I think this is the best deepest analysis I have come to. Sry for arriving here so late. Thank you so much for your incredible analysis of this game. I played this game when my wife was 6 months and I was anticipating becoming a father for the first time. The game's themes about fatherhood and connections with others made this the most emotionally challenging and cathartic game I have ever played. I thought that this game was a masterpiece because it felt so personal to me. But u have shown me that Death Stranding is a masterpiece also because how everything in the game world has such purpose and meaning. I especially was blown away by your analysis of who those 5 BT figures are in Sam's Beach. Incredible stuff. Thank you, I will b sharing this wherever I can.
There's so many details I keep uncovering, and it feels like everytime I return I discover a new thing, like how the knot city entrances look like whales coming out of water and you're entering the mouths
This is also MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME I grew up majority of my gaming career playing fast paced games multiplayer and of course some single player giants early god of war especially took a good portion from me and so fourth so I’m very use to fast paced 1st person shooters to be specific.. I didn’t think I would like DS mainly because of how it’s played and what not it’s a completely different game then your average game at least my sense of an average game yours could be different of course but in my opinion it was different it was odd when I first played it I found myself occasionally just getting lost into for hours and not even realizing I even took a week of PTO to play it some more I’ve been playing this for years lol even to this day ……. I still play it every single day it’s almost like I NEED to play it to feel complete in my life. It’s something new and fresh and I liked how he took the risk of releasing a game like this KNOWING it was gonna be bad to some and good to others I can see why and completely understand why lots of people DON’T like it trust me I get it .. but for me this game is a once in a life time gem and I owe so much to it. Cannot wait for DS2
Like always we can see the work, the passion, the love you put to make this incredible video. Thanks for sharing your unique experience and I must say that Death Stranding is one of my favorite game too. Keep up the good work! :)
This games weird. I didn’t really enjoy my experience because I sucked at the game, but yet I don’t regret playing it, and this video made me want to play the game again. Thnx.
I’m on my way to getting my first platinum in a game and this is the one I chose since I connected with it so deeply. Thank you for taking this deep dive at the game and even reading through the interviews to explain more secrets. I’m encouraged to read them. I definitely will do my best to explore more as you did.
I'm 80 HOURS in already and only working on Episode 3.. this scares me! I may never see the outside world again! LMBO Seriously, I spend SO much time trying to organize cargo, plan ahead, plot out orders and dealing with transport issues i.e. should I use one of the bikes or steal a MULE truck or use the carry carts..hmm decisions decisions or just walk it in and out.. UGH that takes SO LONG to hike in and out and back and forth.. well I LOVE the game and is the MOST addictive game I've played yet.. it drives me MAD but I LOVE it. Watching this video now and have watched SO many other for tips etc and I try very hard NOT to see too much ahead of where I am in my game as to not spoil it. Hiking up and down mountains, in STEEP ravines etc has been so time consuming and so hard. Eastern region I realized I was overworking.. missing easier ways to do things. I lost SO many bikes... had to hike in and back again. well anyway I like this video so far but now I wanna start my game up! LOL I'll take ANY advice that will help me. thanks and have fun all
Another game that did this for me was Hollow Knight. Basically woke up, play hollow knight, sleep, repeat until I was done. Almost thought I was too jaded to enjoy stuff like I did as a child.
Death Stranding being what it is makes me lament the loss of Silent Hills even more. I think Kojima really may have understood what made Silent Hill so special
I had high hopes going into this game and it did not let me down. I quickly realized the importance of Zip LInes and was able to set up a network to get around the map SO much faster. I also enjoyed the character mechanics, but combat was almost unnecessary. Great Review! Great visuals. Great gameplay. Great Game.
What an insightful and emotional comment on the game! It has become my favorite, too... For many of the reasons you mentioned, but thanks for also pointing out stuff that I didn't know yet. This is going to make my second playthrough even more fun.
I completed Death Stranding last night (well, this morning - look, I wasn't planning to play for ten hours when I started at 8 PM!), and I'm glad that I was able to finally watch this video. The game's a masterpiece, through and through, and this video helped me appreciate parts of the story that I completely missed out on.
Thanks to Epic Games free giveaway I've finally given this game a try and quickly became one of my favorites. Managed to redeem both the normal & directors cut. After 100 something hours I've finished the story and manage to 5 star every porter and man that last mission kept me in suspense, I'm not a baby person, matter of fact I quite dislike them but in this game the connection that I made with Lou was something special. I almost couldnt go to the incinerator and finish that mission, instead I was just playing the harmonica over and over. Also the connection that you make with other players via their structures is amazing, just like you said, the amount of times I got saved by a random timefall shelter was incredible. I made it my goal to build the entire Middle Region road system. I might work on some Ziplines aswell despite me not being exactly a big fan of them, despite their outstanding usefulness. Thank you for an amazing video that has put everything I had in mind in a well formed docummentary style. The atmosphere, the music is top notch, one minor criticism I had about the game is about the car and especially truck physics being a little annoying and also that end part with so many end credits being spammed every 5-10 minutes left me a little annoyed but nevertheless, it's probably the best game I've played in past 5 years.
Death Stranding raised the bar so high for modern gaming, I haven't been able to find a game since that immerses you as much as this. Last of us part 2 came close, but the unique gameplay of DS is just one of a kind
I admire so much how you really inhabit the games you play. I've struggled with immersion for a long time now in my gaming experiences and you're really teaching what it means to invest in these experiences.
I love that you could quote characters of the game to explain elements of the it, without it being some obscure figure in some random file. Most of the time that would be something a game writer would explain a year later in an interview. It's kind of great that the game is so well packaged that the only thing you could really go out and search for is maybe locations of items (like memory chips) if you were desperate to not wander the map or you could look for interviews on creative decisions beyond what is provided in game. It's just GOOD.
I feel the same way too, especially since I started playing this game during the pandemic, the immersion was beautiful, storyline, and visuals/audio too. just beautiful. Hope Kojima creates more games as beautiful as this if not more!
Out of all the death stranding videos that I seen since its release back in 2019 this is my favorite one. It’s the most in depth and compassionate take on DS. I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on DS2
Really great video! I'm really glad you answered or discussed many of the mysteries/questions I had about the story after finishing the game, since most "ending explained" videos I saw just summarize the surface-level story without diving deeper.
I just finished this game again. So good. I can't believe how much the internet threw its toys out of the pram for it being a little different. Hopefully DS2 slaps too.
I loved this video. It nailed how I feel about this game and brought me joy to see someone who shares such admiration and to be able to see it here. Great stuff!
Excellent analysis eurothug, I appreciate your enthusiasm and sincerity , this game was incredible and so beautiful, and so far, your review has been my favorite. Thank you for sharing :)
After getting to Chapter 15, I have been watching every in depth Death Stranding video I can find. This is the most thorough one I have seen and very accurate. Thank you! My other favorite long form analysis video on the game is the by Noah Caldwell-Gervais. Interesting perspective from him, since he had not played MGS prior.
This was refreshing to hear a well thought out analysis. The Mass Effect trilogy will always be my favorite game(s), but Death Stranding is up there in one of my favorites. 11:21 They can actually get that high/large? I hardly ever urinate because I just....don't like that feature. lol But wow is that incredibly high. I'm in post game right now so I'm discovering areas I didn't see before. I can't believe I actually missed the Musician and 2 other preppers. Honestly I'm kind of worried about if there will still be players to connect with a year form now. I wonder if the game will become more like offline mode or it's going to be just really scare with other players' structures. I loved that unique aspect of the game. 37:09 made me laugh. That's my favorite "no" meme. Again thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Absolutely the best video about Death Stranding on TH-cam. Finished the game a few days ago, you definitely catched and explained perfectly EVERYTHING. Thanks!
Great video! I bought this game when it first came out on pc a year or 2 ago, played it for 30 minutes and put it down assuming its a boring arthouse walking simulator, just finished it last night and now I don't know what to do with my life. What an amazing experience and soundtrack to boot, now I cant listen to that CHVRCHES song without tearing up.
Weird that I never found this video despite watching other Death Stranding videos until I was trying to find videos on the upcoming Director's Cut. Great video, BTW. I adored Death Stranding, I got the collector's edition and don't regret my purchase at all, my brother even got me the official art book and a t-shirt for Christmas last year, my girlfriend got me a different DS t-shirt, and I got myself the official soundtrack CDs and the PC version. I think it's safe to say I'm a fan of the game. XD
I normally do not watch long videos on TH-cam but yours was so well put together that I even had no idea it was that long. Now knowing Kojima lost his mother during the development makes the mission where you have to carry Bridget to the incinerator almost like him saying goodbye to her. :( It is refreshing to see someone like Kojima pushing the boundaries of what a game can be and always deliver something that is more unique and impactful than most games that are released nowadays. Do you think a sequel or prequel to Death Stranding would work? I would love for Kojima to make a horror game next.
130 hrs+ of playtime, playing the Directors Cut (1st time) and honestly I didnt think I'd be so addicted playing this game. It's a masterpiece. Great video btw!
I finished the game 2 weeks ago, and I liked more than expected. Since then, I'm checking DS analysis videos to recheck the visual experience, and this is the best video out there for that. Thanks
I recently beat this game and was so surprised how much I loved it. Watching your video blew my mind as to all the details I missed, how deep, and layered it all is! Reminds me of the layered writing of Charlie Kaufman. Such an incredible game, and what a well made video about it, really showcasing your incredible attention to all the little details, I'm so glad I clicked on this to watch. Gaming has been such a saving grace for me during this pandemic, this game in particular helped me reflect on the current situation, my loneliness and fears that I've started to accumulate about the outside world. I've always been a loner, it felt very familiar playing through Death Stranding... I felt connected... and in the end it's the beauty we all share of our love for games, or this one in particular, that drives home the theme of the game, connection. Anyways I doubt you'll see this comment, I'm not sure why I'm commenting, maybe it feels good to see someone else who appreciates this game just as much, it's been hard, but like Sisyphus, we just need to keep moving forward.... just deliver one more package... one more package... one more try...
Bought it day 1, didn’t play it till 1st wave of COVID, and let me tell you being stuck in the house around that time and playing this game made sense of being alone. If half of the world gave this game a chance they would feel the same too. Honestly one of the best games made loved it and this video also
That was absolutely amazing!!! I feel that the creator of this video put as much of their heart and soul into making this video essay as Hideo Kojima and his team did into making the experience of Death Stranding. A passion project about a passion project.
Death Stranding isn’t on my favorite games list but it was a unique and worthwhile experience. It felt very engaging and it made me appreciate the smaller stuff we have in life.
This is one of a few games, that I’m unable to ‘forget’ about. It’s something that upon each play through…I notice new things more and more, and how tiny small things ‘click’ into bigger things. This game stuck with me in ways that only 3 other games in my almost 40 years of playing history have. Those other 3 games are FF7, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. Death Stranding isn’t just a game. It’s an experience, and a message. It is, art.
Death Stranding has one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever seen in a game. I absolutely fucking love this game. The theme of connection, loneliness, isolation, and hoping for a better tomorrow is something all of us can relate to in someway. Sam went through hell and back to make the United States connected again, and as an American this is what we need to be again. The gameplay adds to the entire theme of the game and I found it to be a claiming experience, where only the first few chapters annoyed me. But overall DS is a beautiful experience and chapter 14 absolutely broke me and I will admit I cried the entire time. And it’s especially sad to know Kojima wasn’t able to tell his mother about the title before her passing. I hope more people give the game a chance since DS2 was announced

Me too, I thought I won't like it at like, buuut it became one of my favourite game
Cause your wife discovered you are gay.

I agree and having been a porter myself for the last 6 plus years I feel this on a cellular level

Damn, if Death Stranding came out 6 months later during the height of the pandemic it'd be even more poignant.
nah, i think it's even more impressive and/or shocking that it predicted such an event right before it happened. it aged better than any recent game, likely
Death Stranding is one of the many games in recent years that have shown me the sheer power video games have as an artistic medium. The story, gameplay, world and themes are all incredibly well thought. This is definitely not only one of the best video games I've played, but one of the most touching experiences I've had in entertainment
Both Control and Death Stranding are making me love supernatural concepts so much, loved them!
It actually made me cry...I love the characters and was really touched by the story. I'm less emotional than I was a few years ago, so it's not as easy to make me cry anymore. But I felt pure grief and sympathy for a specific character.
The bb cpr scene had me bawling...
One of, if not THE best deep dives into this game. Fantastic job- this game is truly special!
I hope you feel better now:)
I don't know you, but I wish you all the best! Hang in there and stay strong!
Keep on Going!
I hope you got better if not Keep on keeping on 👍
First of all, I'm getting bit older.
Also, and I guess this next paragraph could be considered a slight spoiler, not about the story but about the pacing and the game play loop design:
I absolutely loved that after majority of the game I've been grinding for highways...
In summary...If I'd have to review this game with one sentence:
*I don't mind walking the first 20 hours, if I can fly through the mountains in the end.*
I think in the future it will be more and more appreciated as time usually is kinder to these kinds of slow burn gems in the long run.

3 years later, 1 month before Death stranding anniversary, my father passed away. Now, i'm replaying this game so i can get the platinum, this is, by far the game who makes me remenber my father.
Great video! I love it!
I got teared up watching this video it reminded me how beautiful a game could be. Thank you.

The past just won't let go."
I've been playing it a second time.
The amount of care that people speak of this game is usually reserved for a Souls game, and it just makes me happy, and this video really captures the feelings of love this game made me feel.

lol dude do you really think a "pure art based game" needs or can have a sequel? the game is complete as it is, specially if we're talking Kojima
We already know that Kojima's next project is going to be more "horror-centric" according to his tweets and interviews, but I would like to see a continuation or expansion to the world of Death Stranding; no matter how unlikely.

LOL I'll take ANY advice that will help me. thanks and have fun all
I did this too
Lol I've literally played this game 4 times and working on my 5th with my brother!!!!(and getting the platinum trophy)
The rumor is that he's working on a horror game next so we may still get silent hills maybe not literally but spiritually
In the same boat! 👍🏻☘️
After death stranding I just love to walk in every open world game I play.
I admire so much how you really inhabit the games you play. I've struggled with immersion for a long time now in my gaming experiences and you're really teaching what it means to invest in these experiences.
Dang. I wasn't really ever planning to play this game but now I'm really interested in it more so than I ever was before. Great video.
I truly hope you're having fun dissecting the DS2 trailer(s) for a new analysis video. ❤
This analysis was really good. I am glad you enjoyed it as much as I did
I love that you could quote characters of the game to explain elements of the it, without it being some obscure figure in some random file.
I just feel sad for people who rush through game worlds, calling this a "walking simulator" and just miss the beauty and details of this game.
Really great video! I'm really glad you answered or discussed many of the mysteries/questions I had about the story after finishing the game, since most "ending explained" videos I saw just summarize the surface-level story without diving deeper.
This is my first video of yours that I've seen. By far my favorite review of Death Stranding! I look forward to seeing more of your content!
I just finished this game again. So good. I can't believe how much the internet threw its toys out of the pram for it being a little different. Hopefully DS2 slaps too.
This video is sincere and amazing. You deserve 100 trillion views on this video! :v
This video made me cry and appreciate Death Stranding in a completely different light. Thank you for this!
This is an excellent video and summary of the concepts in the game as a whole. Thanks for sharing with us.
I think a more horror-based sequel could possibly work! Or any horror game 😭 RIP PT
It is, art.
This is best game story I ever played till now
Death Stranding has one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever seen in a game.
What a Phenomenal video. Every thing you say i agree with fully. Please do more of these videos for different games
