Isn't that how it''s supposed to be done? Yeah, dunno why it took me so long to find this band. Bits become Jpop-esque, but on the whole, pretty solid. I also like that it's pretty clear that they're playing their own instruments. A low bar, to be sure, but that's where we are these days. Still, a solid group. I'm slightly peeved that their handlers seem to think they need a gimmick, the silly maid's costumes. Have you ever seen housekeeping staff with those get-ups? Or that could rock this hard?
@@tananam9782 The maid costumes wasnt the idea of "handlers", Miku Kobato(rythm guitar/vocals) originally used to work in a maid café which are pretty popular in Japan, and came up with the idea herself when she first started the band in 2013. Its used as a direct contrast to the aggressive music she was writing. Gimmicky...yes...but something forced on them by a "handler" or management...definitely not.

Dang, I must be really creepy, because I check the Twitters of all five members of Band-Maid periodically. Re "sweet tweets", it's interesting how the personality of each band member is reflected in her writing style. Kanami tweets cute and sweet, Misa tweets cool. Miku's tweets are all ". . . po!" but her song lyrics are some of the most intelligent being written in Japanese popular music today, with allusions to anime, classical literature, and Buddhism, puns, clever rhymes, unusual meters, alliterations, double entendres - it's really difficult to translate all that, but the recent translations are certainly better than the older ones. Individually and collectively, musically and lyrically, Band-Maid is one of the smartest bands in popular music. Now, let me get back to Twitter . . .

I love Japanese music purely because I don't understand it. The sound profile of Japanese is just awesome, and the way sounds are consistently pronounced in Japanese make it so much better than any music in any other language.
So I just wanted to say, ok if I get bad feedback. I’m 52 and have listened to a lot of music including a lot of rock. Since I played sports in high school, I love to debate with folks who was the greatest. Because it shows me things I missed when they are pointed out. One thing before October of 2021, I would hold my ground and not debate is who is the greatest guitarist. It is my man from Seattle who passed the year I was born and the other is my man from Canada with the greatest 3 piece band. Why? Listen to “Machine Gun, live at the Filmore” and “Analog Kid” then October 2021 hit me like a lightning strike. First was “Thrill”, Then “Onset”. I was floored. I did not understand what I was hearing. Kanami Tono is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever heard. If someone asked me why? I would say listen to the beautiful noise her fingers make. I will not debate that she is one of the greatest, she is. I love this whole band Saki(incredible lungs), (Miku, voice could lead any band and rhythm guitar is awesome ), (Akane, seizuring on the drums), (MISA, if Special Forces needed a bassist….this is your General). On a side note… for me when I see Kanami in regular outside of her gear…she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Her eyes are huge and her smile is unbelievable. October 25th, I will see these masters of music.
I am 60. Some of the greatest music ever made came out of the 70's. I have been riding and racing mountian bikes for 46 years now. I am not quite as fast as i use to be but I still get out there and rip. Lately I have been listening to I Prevail and Falling in Reverse. I just discovered these girls and they rock.

After hearing Band-Maid's breakthrough song "Thrill' 7 years ago, the next song I listened to was "Real Existence" which sealed the deal that this was an extremely talented band worth following closely. Seeing them grow and develop over the years into the best rock band on earth has been an epically enjoyable and rewarding musical journey. Thank you, Band-Maid!
I love how after the babymetal hype, europe and the US are now starting to embrace this kind of metal. Hope more of these bands pop up and start touring the world! They deserve it
Thing that people fail to see is that. These bands don't pop out of nowhere, they pop out of factories where they were molded to be a certain way, to appeal to the mass audience. Its why the members of baby metal when they were first taken in, they didn't even know what metal is. In other words, they are used as a way of some old rich guy to get even richer. Its pop metal/rock, which is why its catching on so well. Because its catchy and scratches that ''edgy'' feeling making many remember their teen years when they listened to green day or blink. Do they deserve to tour the world ? Not really, since most of them couldn't care less about it and I know plenty of artists who are more deserving of it, because they put their blood sweat and tears into what they love, while this is just a corporate decision.
But I've heard in Japan that's the point with "idols": they don't want a completely finished product but a person they can feel like they're seeing advance. Babymetal is that kind of product, three girls discovering what metal is (fictionally or non-fictionally) and starting their own careers in it.
Alex Crowface You're right in that. And in the 'western world' bascially most of music is also produced that way, with stupid talent shows and stuff like that, for the last 10-15 years. This may be another product of such a thing, but at least it includes metal... The kami band is amazing, and I really enjoyed seeing them perform live. If this is the corporate/poppy gateway for people to get more in touch with metal, I'm fine with it personally :)
Zulamun Fair enough but the reasoning behind metal or punk or any ''alternative'' genre of music is that. Its mean to be independent, its mean to go against the grain because its ''alternative'', its ''different'', its not ''POP''ular. I don't dis em for doing so, I dis em only because its pretty much Pop and there are people, YEA I LISTEN TO METAL and they only listen to baby metal (yes that has happened). Its the same reason why so many people hate the newer age metal or any type of ''Core'' genres. Because they are the alternative adaptations of a boy bands. They dress edgy and instead of singing, they scream about their boyfriends and girlfriends.

That little *pause* just before Kanami blisters through her short solo... It gets me every time. And the outro! I remember when so many bands couldn't figure out how to end a song so it would just fade away, lonely and sad, as they repeated the chorus forty times. But these ladies know how to END a song. Wow.
I'm an American guitarist, and I look for REAL hard rock music to listen to...Foo Fighters, and a lot of bands from Sweden and other places. These girls from Japan are the REAL DEAL! They write and play their own instruments. I just watched a live video of them...they are pretty damn awesome! Even though I don't speak Japanese, the realness & the pureness of their music blazes through! AWESOME band! Love you gals! ;) Keep up the GREAT work!
All-girl and female-fronted bands seem to be a pretty big deal in Japan. You should check out GO!GO!7188, Shonen Knife, Gacharic Spin, Doll$Boxx, Exist Trace, Light Bringer and Head Phones President, to name a few.

+ToonamiVHS BabyMetal, BandMaid, and Scandal are my favorites from Japan so far. They put out some awesome music over there. Puts American music to shame most of the time.
Regardless of how rated Band Maid are, I feel like they're still underrated. Its so hard finding rock music that doesnt suck balls, specially post 90's. I don't know how these guys pump out solid jams at the rate they do, and I dont care, these guys rock, which is rare these days.

Its just a pretty common thing that discovering Babymetal or Band-Maid will lead to someone finding the other band. I found discovered Babymetal in 2016 and then Band-Maid in 2017 and love them both, they are not really comparable musically but being Japanese bands with female members and close enough genre wise the overlap is going to happen.

@@RevStickleback That's funny, Thrill was my second Band Maid song! I gotta be honest, after my first time listening to Real Existence, I was like "Meh, they're good, but nothing that stands out." After listening to Thrill for the first time, that opinion quickly changed to "This is one of the best bands ever!"

Misa Misa and Akane blew me away, then came Kanami, Miku and Saiki. And as you guys have written, that was just the beginning. Didn't discover Real Existence until later on. And the songs kept coming..it's insane how good they are!
Can't say they ARE my "favorite", but they are among my favorites. I discovered them almost a year ago, and still love their stuff. They blew me away with Thrill, and this song from the start. The musicianship alone is fantastic, not to mention they're just plain cute to boot.

I'm in love with these five talented women. Not because of their looks, but because of how amazing they are. I could not choose one out of the five. Sure, they are very talented, but not to the point to be the most technically skilled musicians out there (session musicians hello). The real strength of Band-Maid is their chemistry and how they complete each other. If you add great musicality and talent to that you get an explosive result. Are Band-Maid the best band in the world? Very likely. I hope they will conquer and dominate the western world.
I couldn't agree more! That astonishing chemistry is their magic, no doubt. The sum is so much more than the parts-the radiant, patented Band Maid barrage that comes off of the stage is......well, you know! All 5 of these talented ladies are important cogs in this band. What continues to amaze me is almost a year after I discovered them with Thrill I constantly seem to discover more in all of these songs. This one I liked immediately, but now love and revere as another one of their masterpieces! And there are so many of them. The songs constantly grow on me the more listens I have. How can they continue to get better? Amazing! I also would dearly love to see the conquering and domination of the western world by Band Maid. For those of us in the know, the world is blessed to have this band and their music in it. They have such a strong sisterhood bond and genuinely delight in seeing each other shine. Beautiful to see--and hear!

They are so incredible, writing about them is about as easy as leaves falling off of a tree! It's actually hard to STOP writing about them-ha ha! There are some other talented bands and solo artists out there though who deserve attention.
I am a Toolhead, I love Iron Maiden, I have my headphones on my head all night. This band. This band has slowly become my favorite band, my favorite music. They are the definition of PASSION in music. Please, listen to their discography. This is absolute gold, Megadeth, Metallica, Dark Tranquility level. I can't express how great I feel about this music. And I am an old fool, over 30 years old now, who thought rock was dead, that we would never have anything that would consume your soul like Juda Priests did, like Nirvana did, like Pink Floyd did, like Black Sabbath did. This is my favorite band, It surpass Iron Maiden for me, I am never tired of any songs, It makes me feel so fucking great. Awesome music, ありがとうございます!!!

BAND-MAID has become my favourite band so much, that I´ll fly to Japan to visit their concerts in Nagoya and Kobe in January, but neverthelss I immediately bought tickets for IRON MAIDEN´s Open Air in my hometown Bremen, Germany, on June 9th. I will do it together with my daughter ( metalhead ), btw. I´m over 60.
They’re such a blessing. They don’t have a single song that doesn’t kick ASS, they can play the shit out of their instruments and they all sing amazingly (and Saiki has SUCH a beautiful voice, which sounds so great complimented by Miku’s great voice), they’re incredible songwriters. And they’re ALL stunningly gorgeous lol! Best band to come out in the last 20+ years. I love band maid! They inspire me so much. It’s only been a month or so since I found them and Misa has already inspired me to really dig deeper into my instrument and learn music theory. Love love love them. So grateful for them. Totally a random find too. I love every song.
I often wondered what had happened to all of the good, heavy music..... Japan picked up the slack and never looked back. Love Babymetal and Scandal, now I love Bandmaid too. Freaking awesome.
Who knew that the next revival wave of Metal would come from Japan. Band Maid, Babymetal, Ningen Isu, for starters. It is so good to hear extremely talented musicians rocking out like crazy, It doesn't matter to me I only catch a few words in English. At 60+yrs,I've seen a ton of older bands, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motor Head, Slayer, Judas Priest, which was great, but nothing really interesting has come out of the US and Europe in quite a while. These bands really catch your ear and stand out like few others. It's too bad they don't play anything like this on the regular radio. That what You Tube and Spotify are for I guess, lol.
Japan has a lot of good rock and metal bands. You can discover a new band every day. Sorry, but Babymetal is not a band. Babymetal is just a show by producer Kei Kobayashi with a singer, dancer and a backup band.
@@Rockero_Loco I am well aware the they are not a "Band" in the truest definition, and it's just a show. I think most people can figure that out. I saw them with the original Kami band in Japan, years ago ,and saw BabyMetal in Bostons' House of Blues last September 11,2019. Galactic Empire was the band hired to do the US Tour. They were both great, entertaining shows, and nobody seemed to mind.
Doesn't matter what outfit they wear. As one comment mentioned in one of their vids, it's the music that will either make or break the artist/s. BANDMAID rose on its own thru its music.....among a pile of so-called musicians. Correct me if I am wrong.. and the other 102K who gave a thumbs up... And I believe the numbers are increasing. Numbers don't really say anything about them being good. There are lots of things that are bad/terrible/half assed but are liked by many people. BANDMAID are really good and they are lucky to get recognition though.

Its more of a pity that more of the US doesn't know about them. I found Band Maid by accident about o month ago and I have been listening almost nonstop since.
My favorite bands have always been Overkill, GWAR, Megadeth, Testament, DRI, and the likes.... Now Band Maid is in there with that crowd. FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!

Half a year ago I was dominated by BAND-MAID in Bochum and Hamburg. I was dancing and singing, sopping wet slightly deaf and awfully happy. Continuation on the 10th and 11th of January in Nagoya and Kobe. Perfect !
What i like about this band is the drummer, when all others are casually headbanging to their music, you got this drummer going all out on her drums getting super deep into it, shes great!

They're the best new rock band I've heard in decades. Five albums of all killer no filler, with each album being progressively better than the last. Makes me really happy to still find bands like this that have so much upward momentum.

I got started listening to BAND-MAID when I stumbled across their song Thrill and have been hooked since. This song is absolutely frantic in energy, especially Akane's massive high-speed drumming! At 1 minute and 22 seconds, Miku's expression sends chills...
They did, they played at Sakura-Con in Seattle last April, got to meet each of them, they were amazing! They need to visit more North American cities though. Looking forward to their triumphant return!

7年前の話とはいえ、こんな賑やかな中でどうやってMV撮影したんだろう、貸し切り？それとも周りにギャラリーがたくさんいたのかな？妄想は膨らむ。
ちょうど若いお坊さんが3人いらっしゃったので、撮影エピソードを聞いてみたんだけど、当時はまだ誰も妙法寺に居なかったとのことで何も聞けず。残念😢 それでも彼女たちと同じ景色を見て同じ空気感を体験して、勝手に自己満足に浸っている。

Yeah, dunno why it took me so long to find this band. Bits become Jpop-esque, but on the whole, pretty solid. I also like that it's pretty clear that they're playing their own instruments. A low bar, to be sure, but that's where we are these days. Still, a solid group. I'm slightly peeved that their handlers seem to think they need a gimmick, the silly maid's costumes. Have you ever seen housekeeping staff with those get-ups? Or that could rock this hard?

@@tananam9782 The maid costumes wasnt the idea of "handlers", Miku Kobato(rythm guitar/vocals) originally used to work in a maid café which are pretty popular in Japan, and came up with the idea herself when she first started the band in 2013. Its used as a direct contrast to the aggressive music she was writing. Gimmicky...yes...but something forced on them by a "handler" or management...definitely not.

Dang, I must be really creepy, because I check the Twitters of all five members of Band-Maid periodically. Re "sweet tweets", it's interesting how the personality of each band member is reflected in her writing style. Kanami tweets cute and sweet, Misa tweets cool. Miku's tweets are all ". . . po!" but her song lyrics are some of the most intelligent being written in Japanese popular music today, with allusions to anime, classical literature, and Buddhism, puns, clever rhymes, unusual meters, alliterations, double entendres - it's really difficult to translate all that, but the recent translations are certainly better than the older ones. Individually and collectively, musically and lyrically, Band-Maid is one of the smartest bands in popular music. Now, let me get back to Twitter . . .

I love Japanese music purely because I don't understand it. The sound profile of Japanese is just awesome, and the way sounds are consistently pronounced in Japanese make it so much better than any music in any other language.

That was the day of their last concert before covid and the filming of their DVD.
So I just wanted to say, ok if I get bad feedback. I’m 52 and have listened to a lot of music including a lot of rock. Since I played sports in high school, I love to debate with folks who was the greatest. Because it shows me things I missed when they are pointed out. One thing before October of 2021, I would hold my ground and not debate is who is the greatest guitarist. It is my man from Seattle who passed the year I was born and the other is my man from Canada with the greatest 3 piece band. Why? Listen to “Machine Gun, live at the Filmore” and “Analog Kid” then October 2021 hit me like a lightning strike. First was “Thrill”, Then “Onset”. I was floored. I did not understand what I was hearing. Kanami Tono is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever heard. If someone asked me why? I would say listen to the beautiful noise her fingers make. I will not debate that she is one of the greatest, she is. I love this whole band Saki(incredible lungs), (Miku, voice could lead any band and rhythm guitar is awesome ), (Akane, seizuring on the drums), (MISA, if Special Forces needed a bassist….this is your General). On a side note… for me when I see Kanami in regular outside of her gear…she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Her eyes are huge and her smile is unbelievable. October 25th, I will see these masters of music.
I am 60. Some of the greatest music ever made came out of the 70's. I have been riding and racing mountian bikes for 46 years now. I am not quite as fast as i use to be but I still get out there and rip. Lately I have been listening to I Prevail and Falling in Reverse. I just discovered these girls and they rock.

I love how after the babymetal hype, europe and the US are now starting to embrace this kind of metal. Hope more of these bands pop up and start touring the world! They deserve it
Thing that people fail to see is that. These bands don't pop out of nowhere, they pop out of factories where they were molded to be a certain way, to appeal to the mass audience. Its why the members of baby metal when they were first taken in, they didn't even know what metal is. In other words, they are used as a way of some old rich guy to get even richer. Its pop metal/rock, which is why its catching on so well. Because its catchy and scratches that ''edgy'' feeling making many remember their teen years when they listened to green day or blink. Do they deserve to tour the world ? Not really, since most of them couldn't care less about it and I know plenty of artists who are more deserving of it, because they put their blood sweat and tears into what they love, while this is just a corporate decision.
But I've heard in Japan that's the point with "idols": they don't want a completely finished product but a person they can feel like they're seeing advance. Babymetal is that kind of product, three girls discovering what metal is (fictionally or non-fictionally) and starting their own careers in it.
Alex Crowface You're right in that. And in the 'western world' bascially most of music is also produced that way, with stupid talent shows and stuff like that, for the last 10-15 years.
This may be another product of such a thing, but at least it includes metal...
The kami band is amazing, and I really enjoyed seeing them perform live. If this is the corporate/poppy gateway for people to get more in touch with metal, I'm fine with it personally :)

Fair enough but the reasoning behind metal or punk or any ''alternative'' genre of music is that. Its mean to be independent, its mean to go against the grain because its ''alternative'', its ''different'', its not ''POP''ular. I don't dis em for doing so, I dis em only because its pretty much Pop and there are people, YEA I LISTEN TO METAL and they only listen to baby metal (yes that has happened). Its the same reason why so many people hate the newer age metal or any type of ''Core'' genres. Because they are the alternative adaptations of a boy bands. They dress edgy and instead of singing, they scream about their boyfriends and girlfriends.

I remember when so many bands couldn't figure out how to end a song so it would just fade away, lonely and sad, as they repeated the chorus forty times. But these ladies know how to END a song. Wow.

I'm an American guitarist, and I look for REAL hard rock music to listen to...Foo Fighters, and a lot of bands from Sweden and other places. These girls from Japan are the REAL DEAL! They write and play their own instruments. I just watched a live video of them...they are pretty damn awesome! Even though I don't speak Japanese, the realness & the pureness of their music blazes through! AWESOME band! Love you gals! ;) Keep up the GREAT work!

Regardless of how rated Band Maid are, I feel like they're still underrated. Its so hard finding rock music that doesnt suck balls, specially post 90's. I don't know how these guys pump out solid jams at the rate they do, and I dont care, these guys rock, which is rare these days.

Its just a pretty common thing that discovering Babymetal or Band-Maid will lead to someone finding the other band. I found discovered Babymetal in 2016 and then Band-Maid in 2017 and love them both, they are not really comparable musically but being Japanese bands with female members and close enough genre wise the overlap is going to happen.

I'm in love with these five talented women. Not because of their looks, but because of how amazing they are. I could not choose one out of the five. Sure, they are very talented, but not to the point to be the most technically skilled musicians out there (session musicians hello). The real strength of Band-Maid is their chemistry and how they complete each other. If you add great musicality and talent to that you get an explosive result. Are Band-Maid the best band in the world? Very likely. I hope they will conquer and dominate the western world.
I couldn't agree more! That astonishing chemistry is their magic, no doubt. The sum is so much more than the parts-the radiant, patented Band Maid barrage that comes off of the stage is......well, you know! All 5 of these talented ladies are important cogs in this band. What continues to amaze me is almost a year after I discovered them with Thrill I constantly seem to discover more in all of these songs. This one I liked immediately, but now love and revere as another one of their masterpieces! And there are so many of them. The songs constantly grow on me the more listens I have. How can they continue to get better? Amazing! I also would dearly love to see the conquering and domination of the western world by Band Maid. For those of us in the know, the world is blessed to have this band and their music in it. They have such a strong sisterhood bond and genuinely delight in seeing each other shine. Beautiful to see--and hear!

They are the definition of PASSION in music. Please, listen to their discography. This is absolute gold, Megadeth, Metallica, Dark Tranquility level. I can't express how great I feel about this music. And I am an old fool, over 30 years old now, who thought rock was dead, that we would never have anything that would consume your soul like Juda Priests did, like Nirvana did, like Pink Floyd did, like Black Sabbath did. BAND-MAID has become my favourite band so much, that I´ll fly to Japan to visit their concerts in Nagoya and Kobe in January, but neverthelss I immediately bought tickets for IRON MAIDEN´s Open Air in my hometown Bremen, Germany, on June 9th. They’re such a blessing. They don’t have a single song that doesn’t kick ASS, they can play the shit out of their instruments and they all sing amazingly (and Saiki has SUCH a beautiful voice, which sounds so great complimented by Miku’s great voice), they’re incredible songwriters. And they’re ALL stunningly gorgeous lol! Best band to come out in the last 20+ years. I love band maid! They inspire me so much. It’s only been a month or so since I found them and Misa has already inspired me to really dig deeper into my instrument and learn music theory. Love love love them. So grateful for them. Totally a random find too. I love every song.

Who knew that the next revival wave of Metal would come from Japan. Band Maid, Babymetal, Ningen Isu, for starters. It is so good to hear extremely talented musicians rocking out like crazy, It doesn't matter to me I only catch a few words in English. At 60+yrs,I've seen a ton of older bands, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motor Head, Slayer, Judas Priest, which was great, but nothing really interesting has come out of the US and Europe in quite a while. These bands really catch your ear and stand out like few others. It's too bad they don't play anything like this on the regular radio. That what You Tube and Spotify are for I guess, lol.
Japan has a lot of good rock and metal bands. You can discover a new band every day.
Sorry, but Babymetal is not a band. Babymetal is just a show by producer Kei Kobayashi with a singer, dancer and a backup band.
@@Rockero_Loco I am well aware the they are not a "Band" in the truest definition, and it's just a show. I think most people can figure that out. I saw them with the original Kami band in Japan, years ago ,and saw BabyMetal in Bostons' House of Blues last September 11,2019. Galactic Empire was the band hired to do the US Tour. They were both great, entertaining shows, and nobody seemed to mind.

Doesn't matter what outfit they wear. As one comment mentioned in one of their vids, it's the music that will either make or break the artist/s. BANDMAID rose on its own thru its music.....among a pile of so-called musicians. Correct me if I am wrong.. and the other 102K who gave a thumbs up... And I believe the numbers are increasing.

Numbers don't really say anything about them being good. There are lots of things that are bad/terrible/half assed but are liked by many people.

Its more of a pity that more of the US doesn't know about them. I found Band Maid by accident about o month ago and I have been listening almost nonstop since.

Half a year ago I was dominated by BAND-MAID in Bochum and Hamburg. I was dancing and singing, sopping wet slightly deaf and awfully happy.
Continuation on the 10th and 11th of January in Nagoya and Kobe. Perfect !
What i like about this band is the drummer, when all others are casually headbanging to their music, you got this drummer going all out on her drums getting super deep into it, shes great!

They're the best new rock band I've heard in decades. Five albums of all killer no filler, with each album being progressively better than the last. Makes me really happy to still find bands like this that have so much upward momentum.

@@madellynpineda5020 1st cd is maid in japan-originally discontinued but re-released 2 years ago-great cd imho. 2nd cd is new beginning. 3rd cd is brand new maid.4th cd is just bring it and the 5th is world domination.6th one now is conqueror-i'm waiting for that one to arrive and bought all the others-there are a few songs out there on singles only but some of those songs are on the full cd's but not all of them

I got started listening to BAND-MAID when I stumbled across their song Thrill and have been hooked since. This song is absolutely frantic in energy, especially Akane's massive high-speed drumming! At 1 minute and 22 seconds, Miku's expression sends chills...

They did, they played at Sakura-Con in Seattle last April, got to meet each of them, they were amazing! They need to visit more North American cities though. Looking forward to their triumphant return!
