- Join me on a tour as I kick off another Design Life project! No two design and renovation projects are ever the same, and neither is the end result - that’s the best part! Here’s a fun project, with a twist… I’m tackling a tip-to-toe total decorating overhaul on a renovated heritage home that’s currently a blank canvas. The messy stuff is done and the dust has settled, but the magic of furniture and decorating that makes every house come to life is missing. What’s the twist you ask? I’ve got just 5 weeks to take this 4000 sq. ft. home from empty shell to totally awesome family friendly home for a mom and her two kids… and make it all happen in time for Christmas! Get ready for my take on comfy cozy chic in this grand red brick home just a couple of blocks from the lake - it’s time for a signature Sarah dose of colour-me-happy pattern and colour with a nod to coastal modern style that’ll infuse this home with energy.

This is a dream house for a creative person and a nightmare for a non creative person. Good thing the two hooked up! Just watching them walk through the rooms made me want to put on a sweater.
This has got to be an idea client: they can laugh at their home’s situation & they trust you to have free reign on her home.
As the owner of a 95 year old English Tudor that we've completely renovated over the years, I'm excited to see how Sarah enhances this gorgeous home. The homeowner did a fantastic job. 👍

Considering that the only thing in the house the owner loved was a very, very traditional, dark, antique chair, it feels like the house should be traditional, warm, with lots of bright, dark colors. I'm wondering if the owner might not yet know what style she loves, and I would be very surprised if it really were a "beachy" style (It took me till my 40s for me to discover what style I truly loved). It seems like someone renovated it following the trendy colors and styles, but it wasn't actually what the owner loved. I think English country house style would be amazing---it is warm, colorful, bright and traditional. Something along the lines of Max Rollit. Sarah seems to have gone full-on modern and geometric lately, so I hope this house gets a different treatment.
She’s completely clueless and looks like her life is in caos. Beachy?? You bought the wrong house, lady.
@@jenniferfitzgerald1796 wow, I didn't intend to instigate mean comments. We know nothing about her and I don't think she came off as "clueless". It's not easy being on camera, so it seems harsh to judge her for not appearing as bubbly as Sarah is. Being a calm, quiet person is not a personal or moral failing. There's nothing wrong with not being into house styles or decor. I was re-counting my personal experience about finding my style late in life and just speculating about the owner. I probably should not have done that, as it seems to have instigated attacks on the owner. That was not my intention at all. ☹
I think maybe Elizabeth might have bern referring more to the vibe of a coastal house: casual comfort without pretension.
I don't think anything was meant unkindly, but liking a historical piece of furniture doesn't mean that she loves the dark colors or characteristics of the piece. She could love the history, the reminder of her mother, or even the contrast of this dark piece in a very light room.
I would love to see this home fitted out with furniture that has traditional lines and upholstered in a more subdued color palette. Partly because of the style of the home, but mostly because that's what I would like. However, she chose Sarah which means she likes Sarah's style and ultimately she's the one who will be living in it. I do miss Sarah's old style though where she used a lot more antique pieces, color, and traditional lines.
This will be a fun one to watch. It's interesting to see an owner gravitate toward wanting a cozy vibe when the renovation does feel quite stark. I miss seeing more color in decor.
I love how relaxed and easy-going the decorator interactions are with her client.
What a dream client! Open and ready to go. Kids come first and yet flexible about potential use of rooms. Beautiful home with the loveliest bones. I love the tight timeline as this aspect can really show off your design muscle!
The best jobs are those where you take a huge bite rather than nibble.

I love formal dining rooms. You were also funny in the shower with the window. You have a wonderful serious decorating side, but also a funny and light side. I can't wait to see what you do with this austere, yet promising, house. This is going to be good.

This is going to be fabulous. One suggestion, have a talk with her kids and get ideas for their rooms. The 13 year old would to have a bit of a say. I think that is important.

Bless her sweet heart! I’m so excited for her! I can’t wait to see her reaction to the transformation! The house is amazing and has endless possibilities to make it a comfortable and welcoming home! I can’t wait for Sarah to work her magic! Maybe Sarah can throw in a bonus and use her connections to add some new landscaping so the overgrown bushes don’t cover the windows. A mix of various size and shaped evergreens planted symmetrically could be stunning year round and low maintenance for a busy single mom! Just a thought. 😉😍🥰

I think that first , huge, long room would make a lovely library, lounge, pool room, family room. Save the concrete fireplace to intimate, cozy, quiet apres room. What am I saying? Whatever Sarah does will be amazing without my input. lol
