Excellent talk. Glad to actually hear Reiter speaking after having read his papers with Scott Zimmermann etc. Also, 48:42 A slip of tongue when he said melanin instead of melatonin. But I'm very interested in researching the relationship between these two almost namesake molecules. I guess for one thing, they both protect the cells that produce them.

Great lecture, thank you professor! I have a question about possible interaction of Melatonin with pain killers. My husband who has stage 4 cancer is taking Paracetamol and Tradamol due to the severe pain especially during the night. The drugs work to a certain extent meaning he manages to sleep during the night rather than sit in the chair the entire night. However on the days when he takes melatonin, the painkillers seems to stop working and he is up all night again. We have tested it many times and the result is always the same. I have noticed this a while ago whilst taking Melatonin as a protection from CT radiation - normally he would not have pain during the day taking paracetamol. However of the day of the scan, taking 30mg of Melatonin every three hours and double that before and after the scan, his pain was significant the entire day. Next day, no melatonin, no pain. Same happens at night when taking 100mg of Melatonin, he has to sit up all night, but on night without melatonin he can sleep with very little pain.

@beyondlimitless8417 sorry about the stage 4. If you watched this video then you may have read Seyfield's Cancer as Metabolic disease book. Water fasting seems to be very effective, my guesscombined with melatonin should he very effective. As for the pain sensitivity again my guess is anti inflammatory properties may open up some of the receptors.
The main point I want share is paracetamol can damage liver, NAC can reverse the condition, plus it is anti inflammatory.
(I'm have no formal background in biology or pharmaceutical, please do your own research.)

Outstanding presentation. It seems to me, based on the presentation, that the ideal melatonin supplementation program should begin at sunset and continue until sleep time to mimic what would happen if you had no artificial lighting. Also, perhaps the best time for heavy exercise would be at sunset after taking a large doe of melatonin ? Another interesting question...maybe the ideal is to begin the melatonin at the same time everyday, to simulate living at the equator which has no seasons, just a 12/12 light/dark cycle ? Maybe having seasons is an extra stress to cause organs to adapt every year to differing challenge, or perhaps the body keeps track with an internal clock to know how many years have accumulated....so if seasons aren't triggered, the body thinks it is younger as far as any kind of death triggers?
