  • I'm switching telescopes! It's galaxy season for astrophotography and I'll be using a longer focal length to image galaxies and planetary nebula. Join me in this video as I talk about the changes and make the switch along with first results, 11 hours on M81.
    Shoutout to KWtelescope.com for the loan of the telescope!

    We here in NZ are going into full Covid 19 lock down for a month so hopefully we will also get some clear skies to help pass the time in isolation.

    I am shooting the same M81 image. Only 3 hours of data. More of a test sequence than anything else. Using a Celestron 8SE which is not an imaging scope by any means but I am pleased with the results so far. Running at a focal length of 1280mm which is challenging enough so have sympathy at 1600mm +
    Look forward to seeing the final result.

      Awesome Mike! Good luck with your imaging. Yes running 1800mm FL of the VC200L is challenging. It's far more critical than the usual 550mm FL I run with the Esprit triplet. So far I'm good with the results. Just gonna need a lot of data to make things pop. Hopefully more clear skies soon here and for you too!

      Thanks for subscribing! Actually we've had more cloud and snow than anything since November. Last weeks clear skies were great but unexpected. Hopefully with better weather coming so will more clear skies.

      @@chuck3814 GSO RC, having collimation issues though. I have a Howie Glatter arriving on Friday though so hopefully should be ironed out by next week.

      Everything Astro I went through the same thing with mine a couple months ago. I took the baffle out and collimated with a Cheshire. Without the baffle out I couldn’t see if the spider veins were lined up or not.

    Hello nice video. Can you explain to me why you wear an anti-condensation band? The system is open, there is no corrector plate.

    Question, how is it cleaning that scope? Does it have a lens like other Cass or is it mirrors?

    Hey, Sean. How do you decide how many/how long each image of M81?
    Obviously, I'm a beginner...thanks.

      Hi Andre - thanks for the question. There's a few things that factor into deciding how much time to spend on an object. At this point I just know I need 20 hours + to make things pop given my skies. Anything less just doesn't have the same punch to it unless it's a really bright deep sky object like M42 as example. I always put together rough stacks of each night to see how things are coming along and that can help me decide how long to go. The best data should be fairly easy to work with and the object details should jump out over any noise. Deciding what will work best for you will require some testing and is also dependent on your skies (light pollution). Hope this helps.

    What kind of pixel scale are you getting with your set up?

    • @VisibledarkAstro
      @VisibledarkAstro  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the Vixen VC200L with the QHY168C attached, its 0.55 arcsec/pixel.

    Hi! I have seen that you are processing other peoples images, I having huge problems with aligning my RGB data. I use Pixinsights WBPP script but it still doesnt align 100% and I have no idea what to do or how to fix it.. If you are interested in doing another processing video of m81 and 82 I have RGB master files ready on my google drive.

    Actually, what I meant was....take m51. How do you decide ""OK...I'm gonna take 50 600 second exposures, 50 60 second exposures, 15 5 seconds, etc..."
