Back in my younger days I would put a snow break up hill from the chimney. An upside down V shaped piece of metal. It breaks up any snow or ice that would slide down and hit the chimney.
Just got done watching Bushradical and was checking for a new vid to watch and I seen you uploaded! I’m having a great Saturday lol 😂 Keep up the hard work Kyle you’re such an inspiration!
You should think about putting a snow and icebreaker on them chimneys on that pitch roof so it don’t tear down your chimneys when or if the ice and snow load get heavy

Sure glad you’re able to get your stove in before you got some bad weather. I hope all goes well with Cierra, the Baby and you being there to support them.
Just one thing about the metal barrel, please make sure the paint is burned off because if the paint isn’t burned off, it will give noxious fumes in a confined space
Mornin Kyle, Cierra, Skeeter and Luna 🖐🏻. I really enjoy watching your videos. 👍🏻👍🏻 on the wood stove install. Great advice for affordable heating. Stay safe and warm. Love and Prayers For All ♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you, Kyle for all your great videos. I love watching you build things. It’s awesome. Here comes that baby. Good luck can’t wait to see all 3 of you ❤️🫶🏻

Fantastic to hear you are going to have a new addition (I've missed quite a lot of your content, sorry) You are going to be incredible parents and your child will have an outstanding upbringing! Your dad must be so excited to be becoming granddad ! I wish you all good health and happiness. Missed Skeeter in this one, hope he's chasing squirrels with mom.
Nice job and love keeping it easy. You covered your bases and the more heat options the better. Your videos are refreshing with good old common sense applied. It always comes down to money, time and skill and you give many the opportunity to see options with good understanding of how to get there. Kudos to you two and life "will" be changing for sure with the addition of the little one blessings on you soon to be three.
Going through the roof with almost zero bends will always give you the best draft. Also alot cheaper. I just put one in my cabin and went through the roof as it was cheaper, and more efficient. Had to meet building code standards here in Ontario Canada. Nothing beats wood heat. It warms you up three separate times
You need a “cricket” to move the snow away from the base of the chimney. I did a similar installation and had snow problems until I installed a metal cricket. You are fortunate that you do not have to deal with inspections, but beware insurance companies who can refuse to honor their policy if a fire originates in the stove or chimney. Your installation looks safe. I was always careful about leaving a fire going and I always burned my stoves hot to avoid creosote build up.
Kyles, for the kids health: Instal shutters and if you can second windows from the inside and a mudroom. Reduce the cold pressure into the cabin and the heat losses through the windows how have no realy insolation power. Shutters would help much thats why we in Germany use them traditionell. And in the night in wintertime? Its a game changer and it needs not much work- or money. In the future you could build a groundoven like you see in "Northmen YT canal -the birth of a wooden house" A groundoven needs a solid foundament and you need much bricks clay and sand. Create heat storage mass! once hot for 8 hours you would have 24 hours heat after the fire is down. Frank facility manager with caprenter backround Hamburg Germany
Love your show... I built my parents a retirement home in Northern MN. R40 walls R100 Ceiling, high efficiency windows and great Southern solar exposure. You can heat it with a candle. Insulate like crazy, great windows, Southern exposure, and tripple sealed freezer entry doors and it wont take much to keep it warm. Peace!
In our climate in North Idaho, which probably doesn't get as cold as MN, we use a double wall outside also because the smoke gets cooled on it's way out the pipe and the creosote collects too much on the single wall pipe.
I share in your affinity for wood burning and everything it requires cutting, hauling, splitting, storing and hauling again. I especially enjoy the splitting (granted I'm blessed with an abundance of red oak). It's nice to stand back and see the fruits of your labor knowing how many BTUs you've just provided for your family for free. Most people don't understand this. My normie, matrix neighbor sees me splitting sometimes and asks why I don't just get a splitter. He's a good guy but he just doesn't get it.
Congratulations on the baby! Being a dad is awesome! On another note, we finally moved onto our property that we bought back in march. A logging company fell a ton of trees last year and left them. Been busy with firewood. We’ve been here for a month living in a wall tent. Loving it. It’s been a dream of mine for years.
I'm with you Kyle, there's nothing like wood heat. We are purchasing our last home (just turned 70) and we'll be heating it with wood. It keeps me busy and healthy. I too like to go through the wall with the chimney especially with a ground level clean out. The Boss of the swamp has changed his opinion with the install in his workshop..
Watching from Panama in Central America. Left USA in 2020. We ran over our shovels when we left. Always enjoy your videos. Pretty soon a little one will be joining you! Exciting!
@@russellzigler2180 my husband had 4 knee operations in 10 years. We could no longer afford medical insurance/medical bills in the USA. Our quality of life is 100% better with zero stress. Best move we ever made. It's added years onto our lives.
Even thought its expensive it is nice to have insulated pipe outside since it reduces creosote build up, but you can also get more affordable insulation for single wall pipe.
I was wondering about your propane heater! I am thinking of doing the same thing. I hope you include the installation on your next video! Best wishes for you and your family.
When I was little (early 1960s) my grandmother had two wood stoves. There was the "kitchen" stove, and the "parlor" stove. Her sister lived a few blocks away in the fancy house. It had a gas fired floor furnace. There was even a duct to heat the front bedroom.

Wood heat is definitely the best. A humidifier might be nice Kyle for the new baby's sake. A pot of water works on top of the wood stove, but may not be enough . Just my opinion
Congratulations man . The baby is a blessing, and will change both of your lives forever.
Praying for an easy delivery and a healthy mom and baby.

Barrel stoves are awesome! Long piece s of wood easy to move , less work, long lasting. Mine just needs a glass door upgrade. Maybe this winter.
