Porter Chase I haven't played warhammer but I can definitely start doing some research on it! May take a few weeks but I should be able to put something together!
Roanoke Gaming this was the comment you were looking for. Might I add nergle is a great zombie like topic for you. th-cam.com/video/g6R2r9uBA40/w-d-xo.html If you wanna get into warhammer it's always easiest to start with da orcs!
Love your channel but if you get tired of the research check out hidden experia he's got 99.99% of their lore covered so you can more quickly break down the anatomy and the rest of the Halo species is covered pretty darn well lore wise from Halo follower hope this helps quicken your sourcing for halo
This is a great video, but it left me with a question. You say at around 6:30 that the process of the Flood modifying your arms into whatever they become is incredibly painful. The Flood infector/infection form hijacks your nervous system and the signals from your brain are blocked out. Since pain comes from free nerve endings sending signals to your brain to tell it to stop whatever it's doing to avoid potential damage/harm, would the victim's brain still be able to receive those neural inputs and process the pain?
Great question! It does seem if you are still alive that signals are allowed to pass to your brain but your brain can't send signals, it's pretty strange to say the least. Most times you are super dead by that point however. Private Jenkins was alive for it but it was a rare occurrence. Thanks for the compliment on the vid!
By the time the flood would gain large spread attention to the government, and after containment procedures failed, it would already be far too late. We'd be fucked.
I feel like the brethren moons were egotistical so eventually they would try to emerge dominant, though to be honest, I feel like they would beat the flood
I Know this is an old comment but I was debating with a friend on if Spartans can get infected and he said John almost did when an infection form reached for his spine. I was under the impression that the infection form was doing that to just kill John. So does the flood need the spine intact to infect or not? He also argued if that wasn't the case then Bungie just did it for the shock factor and not to be accurate. Sorry for the post.
@@justinedwards5300 the spine does not need to be intact, it just needs a functional nervous system. The reason why its hard for the flood to infect spartans is due to there augmentations. It changes around their nervous system to the point where the flood would go after other creatures rather than spartans unless spartans are the only thing left they can infect because its so hard to infect them
3:20 Having a foreign signal override your own would actually be quite painful to the person. There are lots you can buy that will allow one person to put a master diode on their arm and a slave diode to another person if the person with were to let's say curl their fingers, the diodes through the machine would send a signal to the other person, forcing their fingers to curl, and it is stated to be notably, but not unbearably painful.
I miss the good old days in the lore when the flood was just some parasite the forerunners ran into while exploring some planet in our galaxy and due to a lack of knowledge weren't able to contain it and thus the galaxy was almost infected because a plague simply wasn't contained.
Roanoke Gaming yeah and back then they didn't have the ancient humanity thing either and supposedly the reason the flood even found it's way to the planet they encountered the forerunners was just because a space cloud carried them to it.
Russell tier 0 species vs tier 0 species! I would almost say the marker would win as is affect cells on a molecular level whereas the flood affects it on a cellular. Basically horrifying 🤣
*Roanoke Gaming* Ah good point! I totally didn't know that, the Marker does have that advantage. Would have been funny if the Gravemind and the marker had a tug of war over control of all the bodies.
What do you think its worst, being in a world that is about to get infected by the flood or be in a ship with a red Marker which leads to the creation of the necromorphs ?
You could kill all the flood and maintain your sanity, the marker infects you by proximity, I would say the marker is waaaayyy worse but both would be equally terrifying!
Paradoxical Nightmare Can you explain that in more detail as this is new to me. I know the moments you're talking about but I didn't know that it was a method of infection.

In the book Halo The Flood there are chapters about a marine which is one that had been infected and the whole time he is alive and sees everything that is going on but is not able to do well anything because the pod has taken over his whole body via attaching to his nerves through the mass of nerves that connect from the back of his head and in his spine. He is still very much alive, but has no control at all and has a constant mind searing headache along with an insufferable ring that changes depending on what he tries to do, but what it does is scramble his mind and makes it hard for him to think which makes it much easier for the pod to control his body. This is simply just a basic oversight of some of the chapters from the book you would have to read it yourself and I encourage you to do so and if you find anything in here to be wrong please inform me of my mistakes that might have been made.
What i don't understand is, if the flood are so advanced that they can retain knowledge of the hosts they infect. Why not just take full control of all the Forerunner tech laying around, I mean ideal opportunity right there. If memory serves they did something like that with a Forerunner war AI, I forget the name, and doing so was instrumental in decimating what was left of the Forerunner military.
Contender Class Ancillas, and yes the Flood do take control of Forerunner installations. It's just that in all the ones we see in the games aren't weapons of the Warrior Servants (with the exception of Requiem)
oTTer it isn't, all covenant vessels over 04 were all destroyed. After the flood outbreak the remaining marine forces regrouped and attacked truth and reconciliation. They managed to overwhelm the remaining covenant forces and resume repairs. However they weren't aware that the flood had managed to infiltrate and hide out in the lower storage area. Private Jenkins 'sensed' them and managed to warn the acting CO who decided to investigate. Once she and her forces killed them Jenkins broke out and managed to get to the reactor. If memory serves the acting CO found him and decided it was time to kill. Before he died he warned her that more flood would come and if they returned to earth that would be it. Agaisn't her better judgement she detonated the cruisers core effectively destroying it and all surviving unsc forces save for Johnson, Chief, and Cortana.
The Ship Master actually only glassed the city and some surrounding area. What's-his-face hyperbolized the glassing, and the Ship Master's comment on "I would've glassed your entire planet" was simply the Ship master exaggerating himself as well as trying to get the message through that the Flood are extremely dangerous.
Hey Roanoke it would be cool if you did another mass effect video. You should do a video on the Quarians. I’m curious as to why a species would evolve in a way to have an extremely weak immune system and become space faring. Think about that. I know their suits provide most of the protection they need, but I’m curious as to what environmental effects caused them to evolve this way.
I think this flood like idea and what it does to the body is so cool I have sorta created a eldritch God that acts the same way for my book. I guess something about a super smart hive mind is just so interesting and fun....unless you met them.
Now that I think of it I kinda wish that the Flood Juggernaut was still in the Halo games to learn about them (I'm not talking about the Abomination in Halo Wars though).
nice! actually I remember that process wen you were turned into one of those creatures and they cut you legs off, BRUTAL, but that is a good idea, I will have to dig up my old copy of quake and play through again! thanks for the suggestion bro!
Thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed it! The flood are pretty medically fascinating. I always imagined the tendrils are like jellyfish stingers. So small they are able to interact with your nerves on a cellular level
that is interesting, I have Wolfenstein but I never considered it, yes I can! got a few more games coming up but thank you for the suggestion! I will be doing that
Not likely, I recall reading that a legitimate living precursor explained that the flood was their revenge or something along those lines. Deliberately made from their living code as a way to get back at the forerunner after they took out the precursors. The original Didact questioned it and that's what it told him. Albeit more cryptically.
Roanoke Gaming so the ashes literally became cancer cells? How did they retain intelligence? And how did they hijack the animals that snorted the ashes?
The forerunners genocided Ancient humanity, then re-made Humanity but not before modifying their genome to remove millions of years of evolution, then later they genocided humanity again because they lost the war against the flood, firing the Halo array and killed what was likely thousands of different yet-unknown species, (as for example in the Forerunners trilogy, 'Sparks' noted a signal from a yet-unknown civilisation reaching the Forerunners/sparks, taking place just before/after/unknown the firing of the Halo Array).
Eric Northrop as far as I am aware they can't, if enough damage is done they kind of just let the damaged body part go. The only exception being the 'pure' flood forms who just mutate into something stronger if one form doesn't work. I mean the running trend, to me at least, is to overwhelm with sheer numbers. If there isn't any fighting going on its plausible that they would direct unused biomass to 'heal' injuries or maybe just cannibalize the damaged tissue and focus it to something else.
Awesome, didnt know you were a fellow bio lover. . . If you ever need references towards botany or myrmecology, hit me up (odd combination i know, but we dont choose what we are fascinated by)
Roanoke Gaming referring to when you were talking about what happens once you are infected...you said it would take about a minute for you to die so i said that it would be the most painful minute of your life
Depends on which stage each respective parasite is in. If a gravemind invades a newly started Necromorph infestation the flood will win. If a brethren moon invades a ferrel flood outbreak Necromorphs will win. If a keymind and a brethren moon both exist in the same galaxy then have mercy on our souls
You talk about how brutal the infection is for the host but is that really so big of a deal since most people would already be dead by either heart stoppage or a severed spine and be “gone” before the flood actually starts mutating the body? The person wouldn’t actually be around to feel anything would they? (Not counting Jenkins)
Brutal in the sense of people are being converted right next to you and you might see that happening. I dont know about you, but that would be some severe mental trauma for me if i saw my buddy get turned into one of the flood and I managed to survive!
Roanoke Gaming knowing that it’s not actually them would make me feel better but I hated zombies back in the day for that reason, one day you’re talking to your buddy John and then the next day you walk in on John sucking the shit out of someone’s intestines for a snack. At least the flood don’t really look like the previous host all that much where a zombie is just a somewhat warped but recognizable version of the person they were before. Reanimated corpses are just creepy whether it’s the flood or a typical zombie.
absolutely bro, Zombies are rough in that sense because if your friend gets offed, hes gone, you deal, but when he gets back up its like 'noooooooooo" lol
Roanoke Gaming yeah, shits guts you, anyway man just found you a few days ago and really dig you bio approach to gaming, I’m a KIN major right now so the anatomy and bio perspective is right up my alley, the flood especially and the necromorphs always interested me from that angle.
Well, the flood are worse than simple zombies in the way that when a gravemind is active, it can speak through the corpse of any converted hosts, tormenting any bystanders even further. The delirious guy from Halo 3 you showed at about 9:50 in the video mentioned this in his rant. Imagine a zombie trying to kill you, while taunting you with the memories you made with the person it once was.
The "glass half a continent" line sounded a LOT like hyperbole to me, did they retroactively make it canon or something? That'd be kinda dumb since the purpose of the line to me didn't seem like an actual observation as much as hyperbole meant to underline the inherent friction of the human/Elite allience - that contentions are bubbling just under the surface - we spent years trying to keep them from finding Earth, now they're here and they're allies NOW but now they also know the location of Earth soooooo - see what I'm getting at? IF they glassed half a continent, that means half a continent-worth of people, and if that happened there'd be included MUCH more than a single throw-away line. My point is - don't take Hood's exasperation seriously, unless someone stupidly retroactively made it canon.
If it infected the earth it would be immediately screwed. Even if we isolated an entire continent and able to defend say the small area between north and south Am, it would still infect any fish and then travel via water lol we are so screwed we cant isolate it at all
Don't forget to like and subscribe if you liked the video! That would be totally bro of you

Mitten Squad if your alive after being infected like Jenkins you will feel the pain as he does I remember this from reading this particular book
You're right that doesnt make sense
Dang
At least we can stop the spread with the classical ol´nuclear bomb if an infection ever happens on Earth.
Kill it with fire will always be the mantra of the human race Haha
Indeed

I don't just mean the US, the whole world. The infection would completely beyond our control at that point.
th-cam.com/video/9GReZ3lbN7o/w-d-xo.html Heres a great video on this subject.
I think I died everytime he said infection pod instead of infection form... Love your content and hope you grow much more soon.
Thanks bro! and the infection pods are life brO!
Well, the infection form is basically a pod with tentacles.
Think we all can agree that the flood and thr Necromorphs are some of the most messed up characters ever in gaming.
Very true, but then it begs the question, who would win?
Roanoke Gaming or better yet, what would happen if they teamed up.
The galaxy would be pretty much buggered.
I feel like the brethren moons were egotistical so eventually they would try to emerge dominant, though to be honest, I feel like they would beat the flood
Roanoke Gaming interesting
Roanoke Gaming Remember though Keyminds are the size of plqnets aswell.
4:36 if you watch the marine's hands you can see it breaking its own neck.!
I think it a really interesting detail.
exactly!

that is interesting, I have Wolfenstein but I never considered it, yes I can! got a few more games coming up but thank you for the suggestion! I will be doing that
I'm imaging a REAL BESKAR ARMORED FLOOD...jesus its scary, it can't automatically die
So how do you think the precursors ashes turned into the flood specifically?
didn't they turn by corruption? the dust became degraded over time and exposure to animals caused them to become a form of cancer
Great and entertaining video. Make more pls.
for sure man! thank you for the compliment and there will be more coming out!
Sweet video, love that flood shit my man
as do I! I am glad you liked the video bro!
I think you should check out the Bydo from the R-TYPE games! 😎
You do halo videos too?! Definitely subbing
Variety is the spice of life my friend!
Roanoke Gaming good to hear! Halo lore is my personal favorite
Roanoke whats your favourite halo game mine is halo 2 it had an amazing story also im new to this channel love it
Honestly, I love the original Halo CE haha it is basically my favorite game in existence, next up Gears of War lol I am glad you like the channel bro!
nothing better than a good bowlof spageti
Can the Flood forms heal injuries if they are not outright destroyed?
Eric Northrop as far as I am aware they can't, if enough damage is done they kind of just let the damaged body part go. The only exception being the 'pure' flood forms who just mutate into something stronger if one form doesn't work.
I mean the running trend, to me at least, is to overwhelm with sheer numbers. If there isn't any fighting going on its plausible that they would direct unused biomass to 'heal' injuries or maybe just cannibalize the damaged tissue and focus it to something else.
Awesome, didnt know you were a fellow bio lover. . . If you ever need references towards botany or myrmecology, hit me up (odd combination i know, but we dont choose what we are fascinated by)
That ship wasn’t high charity
4:07 the most painful minute of your life...
If you are referencing the reloading DUDE, livin on the edge haha
Roanoke Gaming referring to when you were talking about what happens once you are infected...you said it would take about a minute for you to die so i said that it would be the most painful minute of your life
Watched this while playing halo
10:30 Rtas vadum I think.
Subbed.
I'm glad you like the content thay much! I'll try to maintain the caliber of it! Thank you!
The necromorph's but they can drive, use guns and
not to mention their apparent capability of hijacking spaceships with realitive ease.
And they can become way smarter too
Smitty werben flood can do all that
Yo what the heck is that video footage from! Halo never looked like that!!
which part? Because If I remember correctly I have used some halo wars, but a lot of my videos contain relevant footage that may not be from in game
Roanoke Gaming the parts that look like original halo, only MASSIVELY remastered. What game is that called so I can buy it.
Do a bioshock video!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
idk if you're a fan but can you do some Starcraft lore vids?
I played world of warcraft like you woudlnt believe, but As for starcraft, still havent played that one, but perhaps in the future!
@@RoanokeGaming Ah I see. The lore has similarities with Halo's.
I was wondering: what if an organism had a kind of hydraulic system instead of muscles?
well then they'd be robots, but muscles almost work like hydraulics in some ways, just mini hydraulics lol
most arthropods have a hydraulic style muscle system
I could see that, So if we have giant bugs, they would be a lot stronger than humans!
in prehistoric times they got pretty damn big
I am just glad we don't have 3 foot spiders walking around in this day and age
Woah, woah, woah, woah wait a minute! You're saying they found some weird, powdered aliens and decided to feed them to animals? WTF FOR?
Where does the channel name come from?
The Lost colony of Roanoke!
Poor marine kinda wish you help the traumatized marines from the flood(halo 1 and 3 maybe2?)
Do a bioshock video
I think the marker is more terrifying than the flood.
But the flood can still win against the marker/ brethren army.
That bassy background track was really distracting. Other than that good vid
yaaah, I have thusly not added "Navajo night to any other videos
The Flood and The Necromorph cause a lot of damage
Do the stasis slasher variant from dead space
You are in luck! I actually have that one done!
Quality stuff
I'm glad you liked it bro!
Hey you compare videogame enemies. SA-X vs Dark Samus
Whoa tke subnautica has the same type what is mentiond in the begining
My point is - don't take Hood's exasperation seriously, unless someone stupidly retroactively made it canon.
supposedly it was a majorly empty portion of Africa but yah I agree maybe it was a bit much haha
Bolo Brigade by Keith Laumer
Or the Bolo series.
Never heard of the bolo series, Ill have to check it out!
Master chief killed the poor pods
:(
Who would win the Flood or Necromorphs ?
Necromorph because of the marker signal!
If it infected the earth it would be immediately screwed. Even if we isolated an entire continent and able to defend say the small area between north and south Am, it would still infect any fish and then travel via water lol we are so screwed we cant isolate it at all
Well he has seen planets fall to the flood so yeah you have to make sure you kill every spore or else bye bye Earth.
agreed, I mean you really have to tbh, otherwise the whole planet is flood food
Correction the covenant resealed the flood. Chief let them out
Adam Orick it wasn’t chief it was captain keys and his crew looking to ambush a covenant weapons outpost( that diddnt exist)
A Thought Crime oh really I diddnt know that thanks
