The train (or ship) along the Rhine River between Mainz/Wiesbaden (two beautiful cities) towards Koblenz/Bonn/Cologne is a dream: Beautiful Vineyards ("Rheingau" growing area), more than 40 castles along the riverside (UNESCO World Heritage "Mittelrheintal"), the Loreley Rock, Deutsches Eck (Koblenz), Germany's Former capital city Bonn (Beethoven's birth place) and Germany's gay capital city Cologne with it's Dome, the biggest church in the north of the Alps. from a guy who has been living in Germany for almost 6 years now, this list is quite good, I don't know if I could do such a list given that fact that there are so many amazing places around here, but one thing I would have included for sure is visiting the MittelRheintal region from Koblenz to Rüdesheim, this is one of the best places in Germany, full of castles and riding alongside the river Rhine within mountains, is just too great to miss. I have also some videos from Germany on my channel if anyone is interested!
hi, I am doing a student exchange program in Koblenz this summer, could you maybe give me more details as to what spots to visit exactly? I would love to explore as much as I can :))
@@crymearvr7676Koblenz is a great spot for castle spotting. There are castles dotted all over the sides of the rivers Rhein, Mosel and Lahn. Many spots to visit within an hour or less of traveling: Burg Eltz, Maria Laach monastery, Bacharach, Bad Ems, Cochem, Rüdesheim, Eberbach monastery, ... You can basically drive in any direction or take a train and get to a pretty river town. Do go on a river cruise, it's expensive but great in good weather (pack sun glasses, sun screen and a jacket). You'll be living in a wine region, so do go on a tour of a winyard/winery (some wineries have yummy white grape juice if you don't drink alcohol - drinking wine and beer is legal at age 16 in my Germany). Enjoy meals in restaurants in old wine cellars with barrel/vault ceiling. A little further away you have Limburg, Marburg, Heidelberg (have a tour of the castle and go to the apothecary museum), Mainz (go to the Gutenberg museum - invention of mass printing). France (beautiful Alsace), Luxembourg, and Belgium aren't too far away, either.
You know that the North has quite a number of beautiful places as well, especially Mecklenburg-Vorpommern which is the state with the highest density of manors and palaces. Also there's an unbelievable amount of lakes, not to mention most of Germany's Baltic sea coast
Yep, with the "Bastion" and "Schrammsteine". Beautiful Place to visit! I also can recommend Seiffen, which is famous for its wooden Artwork like Nutcracker, Schippbögen and Pyramids.
It's sometimes so helpful to see your home through the eyes of a stranger. I realized I travelled a lot the world but I surely missed some great places where I live. Thanks for this beautiful shots. Greetings from the southern black forest
@@RyanShirley Puuhh I'm mostly familiar with the southern part since I live precisely between alps, black forest, the lake constance and the Rhine falls. If you ever come to this place go to the Rhine falls :) (they are in switzerland) or take a boat or stand-up paddle and let yourself float down the Rhine as it looks like the european amazon here (this is the part of the rhine which is called "Hochrhein" in german). This is what we usually do here in summer :). As for black forest I can recommend to walk around the lake "Schluchsee" or the hiking route "Wolfsweg". Slowely wolves are coming back to the black forest ;) yeeeyy!
Hi from the Blackforest, too :-) We live in Waldshut-Tiengen, which is also worth a visit. In the Blackforest, we love the small lakes and hiking trails. And skiing/snowboarding in the winter season 🏂⛷️
@@RyanShirley I lived in Kaiserslautern, so short drives down to Baden-Baden for a spa weekend or Strasbourg for a nice dinner were standard weekends trips! One of my favorite Black Forest hikes was up to the Triberg Waterfalls during a beautiful fall weekend!
I am in the Black Forest right now for a month in a lovely luttle town Gengebach, which is reallly a fairytail place. Last year I was in April for a month on the Costance lake, another beautiful place❤
As a Saxon, I would add Leipzig and the Elbsandsteingebirge (Elbe Sandstone Mountains). The latter one has got a beautiful scenery and it's a famous place for hiking and climbing. The Saxon part of the Erzgebirge, which is practically next door of the Elbsandsteingebirge, also has a lot of cultural features to offer - especially when it comes to wooden crafts. Leipzig is a city in the north-west part of Saxony and offers a lot of culture and history as well. There are the Monument of the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal), the famous restaurant Auerbachs Keller, the Panometer, the Opera and Gewandhaus at the Augustusplatz, the Leipzig Bonatical Garden and many more sights. Outside of Saxony, but also in East Germany, I can recommend the Hanse Sails in Rostock. It's a huge event that's held every August and it attracts countless people every year.
I never tire of Germany. Whenever I get to Europe my favorite place is usually in Germany. Have been to most of the spots you mentioned. Beautiful videos.
you definitely have to visit Heidelberg which is located where the Neckar River comes out of the Odenwald and meets the flat Rhein area. it has a beautiful castle and a beautiful oldtown
The Chiemsee with its beautiful herreninsel and fraueninsel is in my opinion the most charming thing u could visit in germany. Also around the Chiemsee there are the pretty alps maybe u can take a look at it. Greetings

I was born and raised in (west-) Berlin, travelled all over the country for many years (including visiting literally every place you showed us in this vid - plus some) and finally ended up buying a house near Bodensee, the most beautiful area (to me) in Germany.
More than 15 years I lived in Germany. Munich was my 1st city before I moved to Hamburg, my 2nd home:) Seeing this all my memories come back. I do miss this country greatly 😫 😫 Thank you sooo much Ryan for this great video. It's a big surprise from you! ;)
Great video! My favorite city in Germany is definitely Dresden! Last year I moved to this beautiful place and gosh I have been fallen in love! It's full of art and history, there are countless mesmerizing old buildings made from sandstone such as castles, so many green gardens with flowers and sculptures and a big beautiful river. For artsy people it's just a dream. Never wanna leave this city haha!
Wow ,wow, wow! I'm completely beyond speechless! The detail of this video almost feels so real that it literally seems I'm there! Beautiful country! Cape town is irreplaceable but Germany seems very captivating!
We lived in Germany for over a year some years ago and traveled as much as we could while we were there. We did a LOT of Castle hopping as well. I loved the Liechtenstein castle near Stuttgart. We visited many of the places that you showed in your video. We also loved Triberg which has the highest waterfalls in the country. The people were kind and helpful to us Americans. I tried to learn a few words of the language but it's very, very difficult. Most of the time, the Germans wanted to practice their English with us... and curiously, they spoke MUCH better English than we spoke German. :)
I live directly on the Lake Constance and its so nice to hear from a strager that this is one of the beautifulst placecs in germany. That makes me a little bit proud haha❤️🙏🏼
Great tour through Germany! It's such a beautiful country but I was waiting to see Heidelberg! Such an amazing and beautiful city. Like entering a real life fairytale.
You should also visit the east of Germany e.g. Seiffen, Schwarzenberg (most beautiful in Christmas time), Castle Wolkenstein, Dresden (e.g Zwinger), Spreewald in Brandenburg etc .
I study at Lake Constance shown at 2:40 really close to the German boarder in Switzerland (moved there from Cologne in Germany, a beautiful city, too). And I can tell you guys, especially the summer here is amazing. After work you can go sailing or swimming in Germany or if you want to you can take a hike in the Swiss alps, because everything’s right around the corner. In Winter you can go skiing, too. Such a privilege experiencing the best of both countries.
Germany is very versatile. Have a look at Cologne, with the cathedral. A long time the highest towers in Europe. One unique place are the Extern Steine near Bielefeld. A high sandstone natural monument. I was a cultural place over thousands of years. Not fare away is the Hermannsdenkmal. A huge manmade memorial of Herman the German, who leads the Germanic tribes to a victory over the Roman occupation.
@@thorstenjaspert9394 thank you for the recommendations. I've been to Cologne twice (and would love to return), but in future I would want to check out the other places you have recommended 🙂.
So excited that I've been to 2 of the places on this list: Munich and Frankfurt. To me, Munich is the most beautiful city I've ever visited. I love the Baroque and Gothic cathedrals and overall architecture. In the main parts of the city, every building has such intricate detailing on the pillars, windows, etc. What I like about Frankfurt is that it's a cool mix of old and new, with a very prominent modern cluster of skyscrapers, framed by a generous smattering of Baroque and Gothic buildings, including the Cathedral of Saint Bartholomew, a Gothic wonder.
Another beautiful place is Bischofsreut, Its a tiny village surrounded by stunningly beautiful forest located in Bavaria at the border to Austria and Czech.
@@RyanShirley Esslingen is very nice as well - my Hometown, right next to Stuttgart. Look it up if you want, nice pictures on the web. You inspired me.. I'll head to the mountains soon, and will visit Berchtesgarden definitely. Freiburg is also a lovely town - one of my favorites. Greets my friend ;-)
Thanks for your video! There are so many beautiful smaller cities in Germany. Some of them were already recommended. But Bamberg (in Frankonia) is still missed ... 🤩
Being a German, I always think it's such a pity American tourists focus so much on the two southernmost states. You missed ALL of the eastern states. Dresden and Leipzig are justly famous. There are wonderful mountain ranges apart from the alps. You missed Nuremberg (OK, that's in Bavaria too, I admit), Thuringia with small towns like Seiffen where they make all the Erzgebirge wood figurines, and personally I also love Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with its timeless rural old-world atmosphere. Greifswald may be small but it has such a wonderful surroundings. Visit the Hanse towns along the coasts of the East and North Sea and the Halligs in the North Sea. Forget Munich with its pretentiosity. Everybody goes there.
Yeah even though I'm from southern Germany myself, the Black Forest and the Alps being my favourite regions within Germany, I also really like some cities and places in Northern Germany like Lübeck, Lüneburg, Stade, the Wattenmeer (Wadden Sea), Sylt (not including Westerland but everything else on that island) as well as quite a few places in Eastern Germany like the Elbsandsteingebirge, Leipzig, Weimar, Erfurt, Quedlinburg, Wittenberg, Potsdam, Rügen and of course Dresden even tho I always think of Dresden having a fake old town because it was all rebuilt with lots of tax money but hey at least it looks nice^^ Oh and of course Western Germany has some cool Places too like the Cologne Cathedral, the Zeche Zollverein in Essen, the cities of Düsseldorf and Bonn, the Eiffel, Sauerland and Westerwald and last but definitely not least the Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz.
Thanks mate for your kind words and insight. When I come to Germany next I want to focus on other regions aside from the south! Dresden and Leipzig sound amazing! I'll have to visit all your suggestions.
@@aizina777 What, right now? OMG. I hope you are fully vaccinated. My suggestion: Coburg and Nuremberg, if you start out in the south. Each 2 days. They are close enough so you don't spend too much time travelling. For destinations in the north of Germany, I'm not so competent. The best I could suggest is Berlin, with a good guide to the surrounding country such as the Grunewald or Potsdam. That's what I like visiting when I'm in the area.
@@RyanShirley if you go to Eastgermany, you should visit the Spreewald too. Its 1h south of Berlin and really nice nature and Atmosphere, I highly recommend it :)

Wow, this is an amazing video! You did a great job there! If you are ever going back to Germany you really have to visit Heidelberg with its famous castle ruin. Heidelberg is one of the most beautiful and also most beautifully located ancient german cities we have in our country. You should definitely give it a try! Greetings from Germany and please continue your great work!
You should add a Tour on River Rhein from Bingen to St. Goar. There you'll find the highest density of castles in Germany and see the rock of Loreley. Also you nearly forgot eastern Germany. Here some hints: Saxon Switzerland, Mecklenburg Lake Distrikt and Dresden. Beautiful landscapes, great kulture and historical architecture.
I explore my own country these days (one tour every Sunday) due to Corona limiting my travel plans. I agree to your list, even some spots are really way to touristic for myself (Rothenburg, Neuschwanstein and Berchtesgaden are very beautiful but really extreme tourist hot spots). I found very beautiful small and mid size towns so far like Marburg, Wetzlar, Meisenheim, Bad Kreuznach and Bensheim. Even in these times those cities have a really relaxing vibe.
@@RyanShirley if u visit dresden u have to see leipzig I think its the perfect town to live in. its not too big but not small(10th biggest in germany i think) and the people are so cool. its also the eastern germany city with the lowest neonazi/right people which is pretty cool.
I laughed at the 'It's just 3 hours away'. Most Germans haven't seen much of their country because everything is so 'far' away. We rarely visited my relatives because they live 'far away'. I was surprised when I realised as an adult that they are only 100 km away.
Haha that's funny! In the states, I'm used to driving a couple hours to go places since everything is so spread out! I'm jealous how close most things are in Europe.
Your videos are amazing❤️ Nueschwanstein is one of the most enchanting place I've visited. Linderhof palace was also lovely. Loved the display of swan figurines in both these monuments

What an amazing video, Ryan :) next time you should definitely visit the island of Rügen with its chalk coastline in the eastern sea, and also the northern islands we have like Juist or Sylt, its beyond beautiful. Saxon Switzerland is also a very nice place for hiking, then we have the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte where you can sail through hundreds of lakes, cities like Lüneburg, Lübeck are surely also worth a visit, and then the "Deutsche Weinstraße" in Rhineland Palatinate is epic for a roadtrip!
1. Rothenberg, make sure you do the night watchman tour and all the museums, (especially the torture museum) this is a must.. 2.Munich, make sure you visit Dachau. (pay your respects and learn ) 3.Berchtesgaden, don't forget The Eagles Nest. More people visit this place annually than Graceland's. And due to weather it has a smaller window of opportunity to visit it. 4. Berlin, you can do a free (it is done by donation) tour of Berlin with a guides that meets at the Brandenburg gates around 9.00 a.m. well worth it. 5. Hamburg, make sure you visit the Reeperbahn, St. Nicholas, St. Michaels, the museum and the worlds biggest model railway, if you really want to experience Hamburg, make sure you attend a St Pauli football match. 6. Fussen, just splendid. Make sure you pre book admission to Neuschwanstein Castle to skip the line, well worth it. 7. But it doesn't matter, anywhere in Germany is beautiful.

What a great eye bird tour and brief introduction of those awesome places from you. I love it! A German City I can recommend as well is Lübeck in the north of Germany. Just an hour away from Hamburg, it´s one one the most beautiful Cities in the whole Country! Well known for it´s 7 Church Tower and the "Holstentor" also to be found on the 2 Euro Coin. It´s located at the Baltic Sea and is aspeacially in Summer a place, definitely worth at least a Day Trip from Hamburg. It also should be mentioned, that it´s medieval Center is Located an an Island in the River Trave. :-)
Ugh. I've lived in Frankfurt for a year or two. Definitely not a nice city. The centre is tiny, and it is surrounded and smothered by all that grey, lifeless concrete. Apart from the Römerberg and Sachsenhausen where you get the tourist traps and a couple of museums (my favourite was the Städel) there's nothing much there. I was very happy when I moved back to Fürth.
Again for everyone: We Germans don't walk around in lederhosen or dirndls all day nor do we wear sandals with white tennis socks ... And no, we don't just drink beer ... Neither do we play the alphorn all day, and no way we are always on time ... I just wanted to have said again 😅😂

What about the unpopular german center nordhessen? I mean 80% of brother grimms fairy tales were collected there. Like little red riding hood in the knüllforrest and sleeping beauty at schloss sababurg. Snowwhite and the 7 dwarfs in the kellerwald etc.
Good video, at least someone who didn't just mention places in the southern states because Germany is so much more than just that romance kind of thing down there. I live in Hamburg, I'd also recommend to visit Lübeck, Schwerin and the wadden sea
Beiing German who loves to travel I have been to literally all of those mentioned places. Great summary of what to visit. And there is a reason why you featured mostly southern German spots in your video. My recommendation is always Berlin and Bavaria for first time visitors :))
Thanks for the pictures. One thing: The fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers are not from the Black Forest but from Hess (area between very beautiful medieval Marburg and Kassel). There one can still find the castle of Snow White (Schloss Friedrichstein in Bad Wildungen), the villiage of the dwarfs (Bergfreiheit), the tower of Rapunzel (Amönau) and the "Castle" of the Sleeping Beauty (Schloss Rauischholzhausen). And one can learn about the historical backgrounds "behind" the fairy tales, e.g. Snow White refers back to a real princess in the 16th century who was poisoned and over the years the fairy tale grew out of it.

You know that the North has quite a number of beautiful places as well, especially Mecklenburg-Vorpommern which is the state with the highest density of manors and palaces. Also there's an unbelievable amount of lakes, not to mention most of Germany's Baltic sea coast
Most American only know the south of Germany because it was the area of the US occupation zone after WW 2.
Americans think of Germany as the country of castles and lederhosen. So, other regions look less exciting than what they imagine Germany looks like.

Wow, that’s awesome you live in there! Where is your favorite place in the Black Forest?
@@RyanShirley Puuhh I'm mostly familiar with the southern part since I live precisely between alps, black forest, the lake constance and the Rhine falls. If you ever come to this place go to the Rhine falls :) (they are in switzerland) or take a boat or stand-up paddle and let yourself float down the Rhine as it looks like the european amazon here (this is the part of the rhine which is called "Hochrhein" in german). This is what we usually do here in summer :). As for black forest I can recommend to walk around the lake "Schluchsee" or the hiking route "Wolfsweg".

So beautiful. We love Germany!

Great tour through Germany! It's such a beautiful country but I was waiting to see Heidelberg! Such an amazing and beautiful city. Like entering a real life fairytale.
@hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
100 percent, Heidelberg is such a great city but could be more modern at some points...
Nürnberg, Regensburg and Passau are also great cities. And you definitely should visit Garmisch, the Eibsee and the Zugspitze in Bavaria.
I really want to visit Garmisch! Hopefully I can go this summer.
You should also visit the east of Germany e.g. Seiffen, Schwarzenberg (most beautiful in Christmas time), Castle Wolkenstein, Dresden (e.g Zwinger), Spreewald in Brandenburg etc .
The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams, like you!!!! So keep going your trips as much as you can.....

Wow, that's awesome, are you studying in St. Gallen? I drove through that city once.

Germany is just a stunning country with so many amazing places to visit and see. I would definitely add Marburg, Koblenz and Freiburg to the list :).
Thanks Madimabe! I'll have to visit Marburg, Freiburg, and Koblenz, they look stunning!
Koblenz for sure :)
Just looked it up and looks like such a charming little village!

I was about to say that the only thing missing in this video is Heidelberg! I totally agree :)
Holding the oldest university of Germany (1379)
And also Tübingen!
I have 4 days in Germany, which cities would be the best for visit?

Cool video! I have already visited almost all the places on your list. I would add Mittenwald, Bastei Bridge, Zugspitze
Hello pretty
How are you doing
It's really beautiful I enjoyed my little stay over there
Amazing, germany is so underrated😍
It really is! A land full of history and endless beauty.
And thats good. We don't need any more tourists then we already have.
All the landscaapes are outstanding by themselves and a Trave to thislandscapeis topromis
This is one of the most beautiful vlogs out there that I've seen. eve
I'm honored :)
@@RyanShirley keep doing your good work!!!
This is my favorite
What about the unpopular german center nordhessen? I mean 80% of brother grimms fairy tales were collected there. Like little red riding hood in the knüllforrest and sleeping beauty at schloss sababurg. Snowwhite and the 7 dwarfs in the kellerwald etc.
It's so beautiful Germany!!! Thanks again for sharing your amazing videos;)
Good video, at least someone who didn't just mention places in the southern states because Germany is so much more than just that romance kind of thing down there. I live in Hamburg, I'd also recommend to visit Lübeck, Schwerin and the wadden sea
Thanks mate! I'll do a part 2 and include a lot more areas up north!
Beiing German who loves to travel I have been to literally all of those mentioned places. Great summary of what to visit. And there is a reason why you featured mostly southern German spots in your video. My recommendation is always Berlin and Bavaria for first time visitors :))
That’s awesome your from Germany, I’ll have to do another video and cover more of the northern part of Germany!
@@RyanShirley Rugen, Harz mountains and Lubeck need to be on here imo
Thanks Karsten! That's super fascinating to learn about the real life background of all the fairy tales. Germany really is a wonderland
Correct. Also, brothers Grimm from Hanau in Hesse.
