When we would take our truck towing our RV on a ferry, my wife could not tolerate handle staying in the truck or the RV when the boat was underway! Her sense of motion had to have her surroundings either be in motion or fixed. Having part of them moving and part stationary killed her internal mechanism to where it made her sick. We always had to go to the passenger lounge or sit at an open air picnic table when we were on a ferry. The last day of June will mark ten years since she passed away after 47 and 1/2 years of marriage..I still really miss her!!!
I love Chris’s commentary…always colorful phrases and interesting thoughts. I love the way Aaron approaches his reviews of products and situations. Great job to both of you! Keep it up!
Like the snap pads on the levelers! I think they help alot! And it seems you two and the pups have so much more room to live in this 5th Wheel! Nice, you two and the pups are still working and traveling and reporting in this newest rig! Thanks for sharing, I enjoy you two and the pups!
The Cedar Island Ferry ride is a beautiful and relaxing ride. The Ferry ride can get a little rough dring bad weather You mentioned they load car,RV,car,RV they do that for weight distribution on the Ferry! WELCOME to North Carolina enjoy the Outer Banks. I've spent many days inspecting culverts and bridges out there. I always enjoyed the area.
Loved your video of our hometown! Remember, when you are on the Cedar Island ferry, you are not crossing the ocean, but just a piece of the Pamlico Sound. Many make that mistake. On a clear day, you can see the banks dividing the sound with the ocean off in the distance. However, yes, during bad weather, the sound can rage like the ocean and many fishermen have lost their lives caught in bad storms! Hope you can come back and visit other places on the Crystal Coast such as Fort Macon and Cape Lookout.
Good idea about not sliding out when unsure about your leveling. Something about extending that mass outward on one side just sets off my spidey senses.👍🏾
My dad drove tour buses and was getting on a Wa. State ferry and the guy told him not to look at his mirrors and look straight at him and guided him into a low beam that crushed the front top corner of the bus and the company fired him over it ! Always a tight squeeze !
I just wanted to say your video's have been very good and interesting. You both have mastered filming in the truck and still making it informative and nice to watch.
We took those same 2 ferries last year from Hatteras to Ocracoke to the mainland. Very tight. It's also weird how the first one is free, but the 2nd one isn't. Still a cool experience.
We used to live in Northern Virginia and we would go to the outer banks about once every 6 weeks. One Easter we went to the National campground and froze our butts off. We were in a truck camper and it snow when we were on the Ocracoke ferry. We ended having 2 flat tires. Sears in this little neighborhood store had two Eclass tires . We went across Cedar Island ferry and they crush sea shells for road underlayment. We drove back home and sold the camper and pick up. We bought a little Cox camper and were very happy.
June taking up both beds 😄 Once again so happy you guys weren't IN the accident. Ooh!! You got Cabot cheese! You know this Vermonter approves! They didn't know who they were dealing with, with Chris driving. 💪🏼
Thanks very much for showing the reality of travel days. Our Escape 19 will be ready in October. We look forward to achieving your all's confidence and teamwork. 😊
Loading is about weight distribution. We took our RV TT, 30fotter, on that ferry many years ago (opposite direction though) while visiting the Outter Banks with our then 2 young daughters. They put us close to the wall too and that made it impossible to enter the TT!
If you enjoyed that Ferry ride, you have to travel to Newfoundland, or even better travel to BC and take the ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert, it is 18 hours through some of the most spectacular views in the world. Essentially the same route for ALL the Alaskan Cruise ships. Glad to know you have a Canadian on Board.
Hey I like your travel videos the longest I sat in a traffic jam was 6 hours, one thing I would recommend would be to open your pickup windows when backing around campgrounds that way you can hear what’s going on around you
Great video, as usual!!! For the answer of the question which ferry is 5 to 6 hrs, that sounds like going to Newfoundland, although, I once did that ferry trip and we were stranded on it for 14 hrs, the seas were too rough to chance approaching the coastline of Newfoundland. Anyways hope you enjoyed the Banks.
I was looking at your hitch for a latch that would have to be opened to open your hitch. I didn’t see one. The reason I ask, is i had my 5th wheel hitch open on a really bad road. Thankfully, it didn’t happen until we pulled into the campground, but the trailer dropped onto the bed of my truck! After that, I put a padlock in the latch to keep it from opening from the constant banging on a bad road.
How are you two adjusting to this new rig? The Dodge Ram and the 5th Wheel, so much more room for you two and the pups! And that Morride slide hitch, will save your back window on the rig!
Wish we had known you were in Sumter SC! Your fuel stop is 6 miles from my house! Your route from 95 was a good one. We travel that road when heading to the Low Country! Safe travels!
Nice traveling. Way to squeeze in on the ferry. Same day I watched this I also watched about the Michipicoten almost sinking on Lake Superior. It was hauling taconite from Two Harbors and developed a 15 degree list from taking on water. They thought they hit something but that ship is 72 years old and looks to be in rough shape. They diverted to Thunder Bay and thankfully made it safely. Now that is a heck of a travel day.
One time the Alaska highway washed out so I went around. 1100 mile detour. Come to find out they got it open a couple days later so I could have waited.
In Florida when the interstate is delayed there’s nearly always another way. In North FLORIDA I avoid the interstate. I found though in many cases just remaining on the interstate and waiting often remains the most efficient. Gets annoying for sure. Good opportunity to grip the steering wheel and work on grip strength with isometrics. There’s always something to do. 😂 or just people watch
great stuff.. We have done the OBX ferries, and yup those guys are not happy when you check your mirrors. It felt very off to drive into such a tight spot with the trailer and not be checking, but they are very good so trust in them worked out fine. Great journey, and continued safe travels.....
Aaron my dad has passed away but I could still hear him yelling about you leaving the fridge doors open! 😆 And dang Chris, you are such a rockstar! I would’ve been sweating bullets on that ferry!
Welcome to the East. Road closures are not unique to this part of the country, just your luck I guess. We just got home from a three week round thru several western states plus the trip back to N,C. and sat in two complete road closures due to accidents on that trip. Hopefully the rest of your time will be smooth sailing. Keep in mind the inconvenience for you is a really bad day for the folks involved in the accident.
What ever happened to your CGear RV mat? We are considering one to dual purpose for the RV and beach. I watched your review of it when you had the Van but didn't see anything since.
We still have it and use it! It's like 5 years old and has really held up. We just dont put it out at every stop. We have the square and next time I would get the rectangle one.
Ahhh... Those precious pups are at ease... ❤❤ I have a problem with the State Police being on site for situations like that to tell and direct the traffic around the problem. Another great video! Y'all do such a great job with these... Have fun!!
I think you don't have enough solar panels on the RV! 😲 I'll have to go back and review the solar install for specs.... We just traveled from Utah to your old state (Minnesota) with our 2023 RAM 3500 and MPG was 12.7 to 9.4... Guess what tank had tail winds and which one had head winds? 😉 Got into 40+ MPH direct cross winds and got the truck skirting around a little bit on the gusts. Stay safe! PS: Hows the exhaust brake on the RAM? ❤😊
Whoa great MPG! We haven't broke 11 yet..... Yes 2750 watts of solar makes me smile! 😊☀️ And the exhaust brake.....it works awesome.....and sounds even better...🤣
Hello, thank you for all the informative videos you both produce. I have been following your channel and absolutely love. I absolutely love your new truck. Kudos to Chris for all the great driving she does. So how do you like the truck? I saw that your tally on diesel was $262.25, wow. Is the fuel very expense in eastern seaboard or is the fuel tank extra large? Blessings….
Thanks, love the new truck! That fuel tally was actually the person before us. The card reader didn’t work so we had to run in to the store. Diesel Fuel over here is pretty good at 3-4 a gallon. We only have a 31 gallon tank… 😊
@@IreneIronTravelshave you considered the extended fuel tank? I have similar truck but the long box dually. I had a older one with the 55 gal tank and I miss it already
Hey! Great video but nerve racking….. Just curious , unless I missed it somewhere, why y’all don’t pin the dates when you were there….or month at least. I’m assuming it was May’24….but just curious. If disclosed somewhere can ya point to it? Appreciated…thank for sharing. I’m glad you take care of the pups the way you do. ❤❤
Thanks! We often forget to talk about the date time..... but we're always around a month or so within posting. This one was towards the end of April this year. 👍
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks so much. We do enjoy what you do and appreciate your hard work. Not an easy task putting yourselves out there and getting all kinds of “comments”. ❤️
They are really the same thing. Because I was in the Navy, and the Navy is full of tradition and strange customs I was taught whistle. I enjoy watching your channel with a different perspective from some of the others I watch.
@scotthurst1776 ahhhhh yeah. It’s the rear seat cover I bought for the Ford and it does fit really well laid flat in the ram! Got it on Amazon I’ll try to find the link
@@IreneIronTravels- I'm sorry I don't know your names yet so I'll just use pronouns (😂). He said something like when the slides come out they are always level, like it doesn't sag one side of your RV. At least that's what it sounded like to me. Mine definitely has more weight on the slide so when I level mine, I have to compensate (if the bubble were in the center, I know it won't be when my slide comes out). So I started thinking maybe I need to have my slide looked at if that is not normal!
Ahhh no worries! Im Aaron and my wife is Chris. What I meant was it's important to make sure your RV is "fairly" level before moving your slides out. They can be troublesome and you don't want to add problems by unnecessarily opening them while not level. 👍
@@IreneIronTravels - You two are awesome! I'm glad I found you today. Thank you for answering my question. I can't wait to see what you do in the Outer Banks. I always wanted to visit there! I had no idea an RV could go on a ferry. 😂❤️
Its doing good! 5k miles on it now. Feels really good to be in a dually with this much weight. Chris really loves the RAM.....I still mis the FORD a bit...dont tell her. 🤫
@@IreneIronTravels I've been watching your travels for several years. Wondered if you'd ever get to The Rock...I live in Central NL 30 min from Twillingate. Reach out if you need any assistance or a mooch dock. So much to see! Safe Travels always!
@@IreneIronTravels Wow, that is a long one. The longest we have done is 30min on the Galveston TX ferry to high island. The video from the DJI Osmo is looking great! How do you like or not like it vs using a Sony mirrorless camera vs Cell phone? That might be great topic for a future video all about video. ; )
@todgrubbs7584 30 minutes sounds a lot better! 😂 Yes, I really like the pocket 3 but the audio isn’t as good as the external added Sony mic on the A7C. The cool thing though about the pocket is that it bluetooths to the DJI wireless Mic 2’s. We use that while biking like in the Charleston vlog. I’m still figuring out what I like and don’t like, but for us it dosent replace the Sony or my iPhone. It’s kinda like a better picture quality “GoPro”, but it doesn’t replace that either as it’s not waterproof or as durable. I see the osmo pocket 3 as a better replacement for those that like to vlog on a GoPro for ease of use. I just don’t like the “GoPro “ look and neither look that great inside. Although the pocket s 1 inch sensor helps some. I still like using the Sony as the main camera and all the others as supplements as needed.
Does the woman always drive? Sorry, just discovered your channel not sure of your names or who is the driver just yet! Watched the Cape May video because I'm from that area!!
I know the question has to have been asked before, but here goes again. Why does Chris do all of the driving? IMO it would make sense to share the driving on long legs of travel. Nothing wrong with checking your mirrors, after all, if you hit something, the person guiding you isn't going to take the heat, even if they were the one that directed you to get closer.
@@IreneIronTravels Chris, prior to posting the question, I checked your page and the question mark searching "why does Chris do all the driving" to get no returns. Since you read my question, you read that breaking the driving chores between 2 drivers allows for longer travel days and help with those days of heavy traffic. I tow a 34' boat from central Virginia to the mid Florida Keys 3-4 times a year. It's a 16-20 hour drive depending on traffic. I finally got my girlfriend to start driving a couple hundred mile legs, so that once we arrived at Islamorada Florida, we had to option to splash and go fish or rest until the following day.. It's always nice when the adults on a trip are comfortable with driving whatever rig you're using in that medical emergency.

Chris is such an awesome driver! I'm glad I just have a van.
What a great East Coast adventure so far !
Weight distribution, or in the USAF, it is the Load Master that schedules and places you on the boat or the aircraft, not sure what the NAvy calls it!
So close!
Do you have any electric cars on your ferry? If so, NC DOT puts them at the back so they can push them off the back in case they catch on fire.
Planning too many miles in one day....time killing delays always happen. Hate getting to a campsite late.

Hey, curious what the two things with a verticle fin are on your roof at like 29:19
Those are gray and black tank wind vents. They work! amzn.to/4caJOob
Why not have A CB radio.
Man, ferry costs are so cheap for you guys. Our costs to go across from Vancouver to the island with our 30' trailer is about $350....
Whoa!
Haaa 😂. Great content and the ending was awesome!
Thank you for clarifying my questions. Safe travels . Can’t wait for your new content.
@@IreneIronTravelshave you considered the extended fuel tank? I have similar truck but the long box dually. I had a older one with the 55 gal tank and I miss it already
@Slingshot277 yes, thinking about it for sure!
Did you all suck in when you were parking on the ferry?
Yes! 🤣
Newfoundland, Canada
😊
Weight balance...🎉
Bulls have horns. Ships have whistles.😊
Interesting! It definitely sounded like a horn blast! 😊
They are really the same thing. Because I was in the Navy, and the Navy is full of tradition and strange customs I was taught whistle.
I enjoy watching your channel with a different perspective from some of the others I watch.
What about the app Waze for accidents and etc.?
We used to use that back in the day! Maybe have to check it out again.
What do you have under the dog’s beds in the truck?
That’s just the seat folded down. The Ram mega cab does that. Or maybe you mean the cover? That’s just a rear truck seat cover laid flat.
@@IreneIronTravels I have the Mega Cab as well was wondering what you were using as a cover. It looked like it fit well.
@scotthurst1776 ahhhhh yeah. It’s the rear seat cover I bought for the Ford and it does fit really well laid flat in the ram! Got it on Amazon I’ll try to find the link
@scotthurst1776 amzn.to/3yW3PjU
I definitely avoid parks like this. Aside from my aversion to people (😂) there is no way I would ever get into that space!!
Your slides don't offset your weight at all? Now I'm a little concerned because mine do. I have to compensate for the difference.
Can you clarify what you mean by the slides offsetting weight?
What breed are your dogs? They are so cute.
Basenjis! Thanks!
How’s the Ram doing now it’s good on fuel ⛽️
Its doing good! 5k miles on it now. Feels really good to be in a dually with this much weight. Chris really loves the RAM.....I still mis the FORD a bit...dont tell her. 🤫
Would you guys get Ford next ?
@joshsuperduty1270 it’s always a possibility. We’ll see what the next couple years bring.
@@IreneIronTravels your call n good look , what’s the name of ferry
Cedar island ferry
Who/What song is in the intro? Another Great video !
Thanks! Louis Island , my Home . artlist.io/royalty-free-music/song/my-home/130206
I'm guessing Newfoundland
Thats a really good guess! 😉
@@IreneIronTravels I've been watching your travels for several years. Wondered if you'd ever get to The Rock...I live in Central NL 30 min from Twillingate. Reach out if you need any assistance or a mooch dock. So much to see! Safe Travels always!
you guys drink a LOT of soda water🙂
How long did the ferry ride take?
It was about 2 hours, but it felt much quicker!
Where is Y’A.
We have the perfect video for you 😊 th-cam.com/video/9o-wkrIZUU4/w-d-xo.html
@@IreneIronTravels😂
I feel your pain.
I feel inclined to intervene and answer this one 😅. Because he had back problems awhile back & Chris just enjoys driving lol. Girl power ! 😂
@@IreneIronTravels
Chris, prior to posting the question, I checked your page and the question mark searching "why does Chris do all the driving" to get no returns.
I think I would rather be in a c or b than a fifth wheel
