    Kool! Just a tip! You need to use nylon slings or chain to attach the hook to whatever your gonna lift! Hooking it back to itself on the wire cable will damage the cable eventually. The mount you made looks beefy enough on the trailer fender though...good job on that!

    I' loved to seeing yah lift the palletforks, that's what I'm making a crane for, is for attachments

    I'd cut a 4x4 post to put up under the fender to allow the weight to be on the ground and not on the tires and springs. Make more solid. Or a scissor jack to so it can be cranked to solid ground.

    Excellent job. On you winch be careful not to let it become a squirrels nest of cable. You can get over laps and kinks in your cable. I got 2 from work that had become a complete squirrels nest of cable. From Canada.

    NEVER EVER wrap your winch cable back into itself!!! I learned that years ago when I was just a little wrecker driver now I'm a big wrecker driver.

      I second that!

    Agree with the other fellas. Don't hook your cable to the hook. It will put serious kinks in your line and will start to break strands overtime. You should have a sling to go around the log. hook your snatch block to the sling and run your cable back to the crane. Double the pulling power making it easier on the winch. Kind of iffy on the fender mount as well. Time will tell I guess. Other than that, nice.

    Like it's been said before it looks like the bracket to the trailer is too short and needs to reach the bottom of the trailer frame rail and be bolted to the trailer frame rail with a backing plate on the inside of the frame rail and have a gusset or two! Because before you realize it, it will have broken out the bolt holes in the fender from flexing. Seen it happen many times before. Keep an eye on it! Nice setup!

    When you put a battery on it add a one of the small solar panels from Harbor freight to the top of the box. I have one on my trailer and it may go for two months without use and the battery hasn't let me down yet. I've had it set up like this around a year and a half

      Good idea, was planning on doing thay also as a backup. Did you just go with the small 1.5 amp panel?

    • @unit14garage88
      @unit14garage88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@splittinnstuff6571 Yes it's a 1.5 amp. They are not water proof so you will have to come up with a way to keep it dry. Check out the video I just put up on my channel.

    I’m not sure your knowledge of a winch but....You can increase the winch pulling ability if you put a shorter cable on the winch so it only has like 10-15 wraps! Instead of 50’ shorten to like 25’. The longer the cable on the winch drum the lower the pulling power! Winch pulls its max when there is only few wraps on the drum!

    If your gonna get into hauling larger logs. You should check out the log arch trailers on here. Might be a good additional project for your trailer. Save wear and tear on your crane. Plus those arches do the work safer.

    Only as good as your fender holds up

  • @seanseoltoir
    @seanseoltoir ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI -- Oak varies from around 40 lbs per cu-ft to around 60 lbs per cu-ft, depending upon type of oak and whether it fresh green wood or had dried out... Assuming 60 lbs-cu-ft, that log would weight around 314 lbs -- 60 lbs/cu-ft / (12*12*12)cu-in/cu-ft * 80 in * pi * radius^2 (i.e. 6*6)

    That fender may not hold the cranes limit. BE CAREFUL!!

      Yeah it looks to be the weakest part of the trailer. It will flex and over time the fender will go suddenly.

    Get a set of tongs, the hook cinched to the wire rope seriously kills it's lifespan.

    • @puncherdavis9727
      @puncherdavis9727 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tongs for sure, just drop it over the log and pull it where u need it to go.. A lot less hassle and no dealing with nasty grime of logs and dirt.

      Good idea. I would like to suggest you use a sling around the log and hook the cable to it. Keep up the good work.

      @splittinnstuff6571  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nelsonstree436 i actually just bought a couple slings. Im gonna try both out, if the tongs don't bite too well, ill just use the slings. I dont really like the idea of a 500lb piece of wood falling onto my feet/trailer fender haha

      @@splittinnstuff6571 I have a small crane truck I tried the tongs with also not good. Do you have a cant hook or a log peavey. They work good for rolling the logs onto the slings.
