    What is the best fanless CPU cooler? I did a direct comparison of the four most widely available fanless CPU coolers. Included were the Arctic Alpine 12 Passive, NoFan CR-80EH, SilverStone HE02, and the NoFan CR-95C. I tested the four coolers in the same system at various power levels to see how each cooler does under the same conditions. Two different CPUs were used, the Intel i5-9400 and the i9-9900. I fired up Windows 10 and ran Prime95’s torture test with small FFTs for half an hour during each run. The test system included an ASRock H370 Pro4 motherboard installed in a Fractal Design Meshify C case. The case was stripped down, all fans, drive bays, and dust filters removed for optimal natural passive airflow.
    Linear trendlines were added to the data, and formulas for stressed core temperatures were determined. If we use these formulas to calculate the theoretical maximum CPU power uses for each cooler, assuming an ambient room temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and maximum core temperatures of 100 degrees, we get 58 watts for the Arctic Alpine 12, 81 watts for the NoFan CR-80EH, 113 watts for the SilverStone HE02, and 126 watts for the NoFan CR-95C.
    Available for sale are fully silent computers, built with no moving parts. The computers utilize passive heatsinks to dissipate the heat into the air. A variety of models are available with a variety of latest generation processors and SSD storage options. These PCs are great for general use or as home theater PCs. They have zero fans, zero spinning disks, and therefore zero noise! They are available at the link above.

    I was looking for a case to put my Nofan CR-80EH in, when I came across your channel. I was afraid that the Nofan couldn't cool my I7 8700 enough. But since I got a I3 8300 and your previous test showed that a I3 9100 gets hotter than a I9 9900, I feel confident that its going to be ok.

    • @fullysilentpcs
      @fullysilentpcs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on the power limits and the CPU's thermal interface. The i3 unfortunately has worse thermal performance because it uses thermal paste under the IHS instead of solder. But all of Intel's 8th generation CPUs use paste, so the 8700 also won't do much better. Intel started using solder with their 9th generation (i7-9700 and higher).

    Great testing! I have a home theater PC with lower power needs and an oversized 150w TDP fan cooler and I just removed the fan since its so oversized for the use, it runs between 35C- 60C fanless, got to wonder if other large fan coolers something like the Noctua nh-d15 would do really well with no fan especially if mounted where the center hole can be pointed up and the heat can rise creating some natural air velocity up the middle. Noctua NH-P1 also came out recently that is a passive solution with wider air holes and better stacking effect with less air resistance.

    • @fridaycaliforniaa236
      @fridaycaliforniaa236 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have put my NH-D15 without fans on a Core i7 3770K (3,5 GHz base / 3,9 GHz boost) and it works perfectly fine if you have a nice case and you keep it stock (no OC). Best advice is to undervolt it, that gives even better results with gains between -6°C and -8°C at various loads, without killing the stock performance a lot. This is what I did when I got my new computer, I repurposed my old trusty 3770K for a NAS/media/BOINC platform, and it works really fine (BOINC is used only in GPU intensive tasks, of course ^^).
