      Go down to devon and get some sun. Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City, and Torquay Unitef would be interesting. And they also have some even smaller clubs down there. . . Storyline: Plymouth is the biggest English City to never have a top level club.

    Make NO mistake we are English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and very very proud of it. We were miles away in Macc for years and we simply accepted the shoebox we ‘put up with’ just to get us back closer to the city. Sealand Road will forever be our spiritual home and will never forget it. Our ‘new’ home is shoved away at the end of an industrial estate nearest pub well over a mile away and train station even further away, in the middle of nowhere is an understatement. Chester is a footballing City but 1,000’s get on the Mersey rail to Everton or Liverpool instead of hiking down bumpers lane industrial estate. For your records mate my Mrs farm was demolished to make way for the shoebox. Her front door was in the same place as the front door to the Blues Bar ! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️👍

    Great watch as a Chester fan - well researched! Another fun fact is that the pheonix club was actually formed & fully funded by the fans and is still is to this day.. 100% fan owned!
    You mentioned about problems with differing covid rules for Wales/England, we’ve been fine on the football side as elite football is exempt from travel restrictions, but a local theatre sold tickets for an outdoor cinema at the ground a few months ago and had to cancel as the toilets were a few metres away... in Wales, and at the time you couldn’t travel into Wales! 😂🙈

    I am an Everton season ticket holder but I am also a footy nut and was at Chester's game against Northwich Victoria when they got promoted back to the Conference after they had to start from the bottom of the pyramid. I only live up the road in Birkenhead but a strange quirk of this ground is that Chester's biggest rivals are Wrexham and when they play Wrexham at home the Welsh away Wrexham fans are in England and the home end with their most passionate fans are in Wales

    Good video mate, the scene where you videoed the plane landing at 3:25 that plane is landing at Broughton Airport and next to that runway is another football ground which hosts Airbus UK. They’re a Welsh football team who plays in the second tier of Welsh football but there ground is pretty nice so maybe it’s worth checking out.

    Club was called Chester FC from 1885 to 1983 then City was added. Renamed Chester FC again when we were reformed in May 2010. If you enter the bar through the main entrance you will be in England. If you go to the toilets through in to the corridor you are in Wales. If you sit at the top of the main stand you will be in England. If you sit at the bottom of it you will be in Wales. It's a soulless place and isn't the same as it was years ago. We only ever get a decent crowd when we play Wrexham. It's absolutely dier in the Conference North. Only down in it because of two men, Mark Maguire and Jon Mccarthy.

    If you're looking for a nice ground go to pontcysyllte (worlds highest viaduct) as there's a football underneath it and while you're there go to Cefn druids (not too far) played in the fa cup back in the days of the old etonians and they ground is built on a quarry of Liverpool Town hall(something along that lines)

  • @nigelrobinson3077
    @nigelrobinson3077 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The odd placement of the border is because it used to run along the line of the river but in the early 18th century the straight canal section was constructed half a mile to the west changing the course of the river. This was meant to keep the river navigable for shipping up to the Port of Chester which had been the major port on the west side of the country since Roman times. The Romans built their fortress Deva on the site as it was the last crossing point of the River Dee before the sea. Over the years the river has been silting up thus the plan to try and keep the port open. This land along the eastern side of the river became reclaimed for rich farming land

    • @DraigBlackCat
      @DraigBlackCat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The position of the river canalisation had more to do with the fact that land reclaimed on the English side of the river would be more valuable.

    How about the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. You know the two tiered goal end stand. It is connected to the rugby stadium next door. In fact they use the same entrances and exits. Basically you come to a set of stairs. You go up the stairs you go to the upper tier of the stand in the Principality stadium stand. You go down the stairs you go down to the stand at Cardiff Rugby Clubs ground.

    I just bet Chester fans I glad to have their own ground, whether it's in England or Wales. I can remember back In about 1993, going away to see my beloved West Brom vs Chester City. It was played at Macclesfield as Chester City didn't have a ground, not sure why they didn't. I just remember Albion had 3 sides of the ground and Chester City didn't have many fans at all.

    • @peterharrison966

      We were in exile at Macclesfield while this ground was under construction, hence The Macc ground share, The Deva was originally supposed to be 15,000 all seater, not that we needed it that big, But due to time scale as usual we got ripped off and cheaper version was made instead. We got ripped off at Sealand Road , land was worth hell of a lot, sold down the river, Bastard owners from Manchester,

    Google actually shows 99% of the stadium in wales with the border running through the office, leaving a tiny sliver in England along with some of the car park. Very strange border as they usually follow a natural landmark that is unlikely to move such as a water course.

    • @Whatagoal500
      @Whatagoal500 ปีที่แล้ว

      *when any house/building/establishment straddles the border of 2 jurisdictions, the official deciding point is always the front door which is in England as are gates to the site therfore they have cheshire address and part of chester Council also patrolled by Cheshire police.

    I wonder how they got planning permission to build the ground if they are having to navigate two potentially different planning laws
    Given they play in National League North doubt they played at all this season as the season was declared null and void
    Would be interesting to know how the fans felt about the phoenix club as I watched documentary about Bury FC and a lot of the fan base didn't take that kindly to the forming of the phoenix club

    • @pkscarr
      @pkscarr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      from what i remember growing up around then and going to see Chester play, most of the fans were pretty supportive of the phoenix club. Unlike some of these pheonix clubs, the original didn't fail through some series of well-meaning but flawed financial desicions or problems they could not do anything about, but instead the Vaughan family (owners of the club during their liquidation) were widely hated by the fans as their continual dodgy dealings (and eventual fraud convictions) pushed the club further and further under, with points penalities and fan frustration piling up until the inevitable ejection from the league. So after that, anything seemed preferential really.
