    I literally just got this tower for my niece as a graduation build. Its amazing. Up to date ports, great ventilation, separate compartment for PSU /HDDs, two bottom connections for SSDs, back panel is very well thought of and hides the clutter of cables being seen. 10/10! But... best thing I added to this build is two adhesive magnets on the two top front corners of the glass for easy open/close access.

      @julesjacobs1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      @@maggi98mw If you don't want the dust filter you could always remove it. Gamers Nexus has weird case reviews. They love their phanteks case without a dust filter so much, but according to their own numbers, the bequiet 500dx with dust filter removed is better than the phanteks...so their conclusions do not make a lot of sense. Now manufacturers are on the no-dust-filter hype train, simply because IF they included a dust filter then Gamers Nexus would give their case a poor review, even if their case actually does better with the dust filter removed. So now we're all stuck cleaning the inside of the case, because the "ultra fine mesh" does not in fact stop dust.

    • @meejmuas8686
      @meejmuas8686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@julesjacobs1 I agree with you here. For initial testing, you will get better temperature metrics with little or no filter but in for the actual user, the temperature difference vs. the dust being inside the case is a valid point. I dont want to spend time cleaning my fans and components in my case constantly. Also, having dust clog my GPU components and fans, where dust works its way into the moving part crevices is a no go for me. 3 degree difference for no dust? Clear choice for me.

    The performance variant has a fan speed controller on the io on the top, and the rgb has an rgb controller instead.
    Thought that was the most important difference between the two so i just wanted to add that here.

    • @daanyalhassan2171

      stupid question but is the cooling performance the same?

    • @sandeman2001
      @sandeman2001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@daanyalhassan2171 Depends what you do with the fans. The performance has two 140mm in the front and one 120mm fan in the back, so strictly speaking it will be a little better than the rgb which has three 120mm fans in the front. You can get another fan, a radiator or just put one fan in the back for pretty much the same airflow, but all in all I think both have such exellent airflow, that you should just worry about whether you want an rgb or a fan controller.

  • @k24skin

    This is a great tech channel with what I consider an excellent review vid for this case :) Now, I can say this with all certainty as I myself have built in 4 of the Lancool II model cases (2 in the original & 2 in the Mesh ones) and have also found that the PSU shroud fan placement will raise the CPU temps a few degrees but, that's mostly when using an air CPU cooler so, if you're going to use an AIO then I highly suggest you take advantage of at least one of the PSU shroud's vents to keep those GPU temps in check...also if you're using an M.2 NVMe or a SATA SSD as your sole storage devices then, by all means remove the HDD cage and place at least one front case fan at the lowest location, this will help increase that PSU shroud's GPU cooling ability by feeding fresh cool air from the bottom front straight to the shroud's underside intake and thus straight up to your GPU (BTW, if you want to see some Lian Li Lancool II cooling/fan placement options then, please see my setup at my YT channel). Now, my newest Lancool II MESH build has an R7 5800X, cooled by a front mounted 360 AIO (6Xfan push & pull config), on the B550 Tomahawk mobo, a Gen4 1tb Samsung 980 Pro for boot drive/main storage, with a FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080 Ti GPU, 2Xfans on PSU shroud plus back and top exhaust fans and it's all powered by a Corsair RM850x PSU (FYI, waiting on custom PCIe power cables since the FTW3 needs three 8pins but, I'll be sure to post a final build vid on my channel once it's done).

    • @k24skin
      @k24skin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mobil3targ3t Ok, if you're going to use a 360mm rad in a Lancool II case then, your only placement choice is in the front of the case...only 240mm rads and possibly if you were to sandwich the two 140mm fans between the case's top and a 280mm rad you then may be able to clear motherboard VRM heatsinks and higher ram sticks.

    The flip-able cable cover is a very tight fix for cable management even with regular ATX boards. Gets in the way especially if you want to install something like a graphic card anti-sag bracket. I flipped it around to get some extra clearance with an Asrock Z690 PG Riptide. The raised platform is also on the thin side, and some connectors would definitely interfere, depending on what you're plugging into your mobo. With the cable cover as it installed out of the box (i.e. ATX config), I would have been hard pressed to connect have all 6 main sata ports hooked.
    Also, before putting in the motherboard, verify all the appropriate standoffs are in place. Mine was 'missing' one. Either the mobo had a non-standard layout or they just forgot (the standoff location doesn't include the mark for ATX motherboards).
    It is a really good case otherwise, as these are only very small gripes on my part.

    This Is a fantastic case. Using the bottom fan is worth it, because the GPU fans are always the loudest parts of the system.
    With any aftermarket air cooler you will have good temps on the cpu anyway, which is definitely more rugged than the GPU

  • @robertweekes5783
    @robertweekes5783 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    After removing the hard drive rack, the case is just “begging” to have a 3rd intake fan on the bottom. You can move the two 140’s up and install a 120mm easily. If you flip the front fan bracket around, you can fit three 140’s - if you don’t mind leaving the bottom 2 screws out (just a few mm’s short!). But small extender brackets can be attached to secure the bottom screws.
    I’m also going to install two 120 fans onto the psu shroud to force more air into the GPU. Gonna be sweeet

    • @codyguy2643
      @codyguy2643 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I did. was able to barely fit a 120mm after shifting the two 140mms up a bit. Was hoping would be able to fit 3x140mm but only the newer lancool iii seems to be able to do it. How did the 120 fax on the psu shroud perform? I've seen tests where it makes the GPU cooler but makes the CPU hotter as the hot air from the GPU is being pushed towards the CPU.

  • @Bakajinsama
    @Bakajinsama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Compelling case! I wonder if using an AIO cooler on the CPU would help mitigate some of that heat increase from having fans installed on the top? I don't imagine it would be a huge difference, but I assume the heat comes from running already hot air through the CPU's air-cooler. Great reviews as always, I'll definitely keep this one on my radar for my next build.

      Hi, do you want to mount an aio on top, cooling the processor ? I was thinking of an Arctic AC Liquid freezer II 240 mounted on the top of the case as an exhaust, this way you have 2 x 140mm intake in the front and 3 x 120mm enhaust in the back and top. This is my go to case too, I already ordered it and can't wait for it to arrive.

    The one thing I give the P400TS with a mesh panel from a P400RGB over this is,...well someone knocked mine off a table while running and the only thing that went wrong, I had to stick the magnetic LED stip inside back where I had it. Not a blue screen, no broken glass, no dents. It was about a 5-foot drop and the case was fully loaded, it hit a solid floor and bounced a few inches. That Lian Li case would have the glass panels swing open and shatter on impact. I mean may not be a concern for others, but if it becomes one, a study case is good.

    So basically you should block off the shroud ventilation in case you are not using any shroud fans, particularly if you are running a more moderate fan profile. Reasoning seems to be that you aid the front-to-back airflow direction.

      @@somethingtrulyhorrifying Well I'm gonna root for you finding your next case for a great price! I used to feel like my Meshify II was too big of a case, since its on the larger side for a mid-tower. However, after seeing how large new GPUs can get, and being able to fit a 360mm rad with a whole bunch of 140mm fans up front and at the bottom, I'm no longer feeling that way. Funny thing is, a friend of mine built a PC with similar specs to mine (RTX 3080, R9 3900X) but instead went SFF with the NZXT H1. Mine takes up whole lot more space, but is super quiet and cool. His looks nicer and is a lot more compact, but sounds like a jet-engine and all his main components overheat and thermal throttle. Picking the right case is definitely important.

      @@RGInquisitor Heck yeah man, definitely rather go a bit oversize on the case than not enough. I was considering a water-cooled ITX build a long time ago, it looks nice and is the same size as an xbox but a lot more powerful. "What's not to love?", I thought. Glad I changed my mind though, especially now that I have a card that is over a foot long and can fry a steak when it's not in the proper environment lol.

    I bought the Lian Li LANCOOL II Mesh RGB Case (White) for $120 back in August and it's already filled with dust. Too bad they didn't go with the 1mm mesh holes of the Phanteks rather than 1.5mm but I suspect the real contributor is the wide open "unfiltered" space on the bottom of front panel where one has to grab to remove it. Aside from the front fans and what little LED that remains unobscured on a MSI Z490 Godlike E-ATX MB...the interior seemed rather dark for I opted for a 40cm diffused RGB LED magnetic light strip (GIM KB-14) for $15.44 on A...they had a smaller 30cm as well but the 40cm fit perfectly along the top of the basement. 2 adjacent sides of the strip are magnetic and the other 2 have the diffused RGB so since the side glass has about an inch blackout strip along the top and the sides, but not the bottom...one of the magnetic strips rest against the glass to complete the picture framed glass blackout effect. Appears Lian Li now offers something similar, for $11.99 @ MC, but it appears to have only one side with RGB's and it's a stick-on style LED strip...which may be better if one wanted to install fans on the basement top.

    Did you check out Gamer's Nexus review of this case and their finding about the hole in the bottom (which have no mesh or filter) that of course helps with cooling but also makes having a front mesh kind of pointless as that hole will suck in dust at the bottom? Gamer's Nexus tried taping that hole shut but that increased the temperatures slightly as a result.
    That being said, I do like how Lian Li seems ot be handeling criticism. They seem very open minded, take the critique to heart and listen. Listen to Your reviewers and communicate and make improvements based on that. That's the way all companies should operate. **thumbs up**

    Built my pc today, using this case. I have to say, the fans are quite noisy. Not in an airflow way, but a diesel/direct injection ticking kind of way, at all speeds. Compared to the noctua fans on my d15, the Lian li case fans are very loud. I plugged them in to be controlled via pwm from the motherboard and was hoping id be able to stop them at low load to keep the sound down. Besides that the case is great. Lots of air flow, well thought out for cable management, quality feel. The thing is seriously heavy.. I might upgrade the fans at some point. Side note, my air cooler hits the glass ever so slightly with trident z rgb ram. The fan is touching both the memory, and side panel.

    • @stevew145
      @stevew145 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benposts0786 Probably better off with an AIO. Don't get me wrong the D15 is great, but why get rgb ram when you are going to cover it over with a giant fan/cooler. Can't see my strix mobo rgb or the ram... and my graphics card covered the southbridge rgb. The side cover barely touches it, maybe 1mm too much. The cover does close all the way no issue, just puts a little strain on the fan, not enough to cause concern for me. If I had my time back I would have gotten an AIO, but for the cost/reliability of the D15 I knew what to expect, no pump issues, no noise, idles a 10700k at 5.1ghz all core 3 degrees above ambient!

    I just got this case and took the HDD stack out, and all 3 fans it comes with. Going to mount the LC GPU and LC CPU, then add 2 black noctua fan to bottom front, and back. Idk if it would benefit from mounting two more or one more fan on top of the PSU to pull additional heat from the GPU, although it is already Liq cooled. All in all, this is definitely the best case I've ever owned and ive had like 10.
