Sabaton is a Swedish band that sings primarily about war and heroic (and at times inhumane) deeds therein. This particular song is actually a cover of an original Russian song by a cover artist who goes by Radio Tapok. Sabaton actually covered his song, since he so often covers theirs in Russian.

The USSR won the war with the loss of 27 million people. This is a fact, not a theory.
As for the track: Sabaton has an amazing charisma and property, when listening to their tracks in a foreign language you penetrate with patriotism to what they sing about. Despite the general Russophobia, many bloggers noted that they experienced a feeling of patriotism for Russia (USSR) in this video. And this is the merit of Sabaton. Now imagine how I felt after listening to this track!

Yes Russia did win the war and the fate of Germany was sealed after the Battle of Kursk in 1943 before Allied landings in Italy or Normandy, but don't downplay the significance of the Lend Lease by Britain and the USA through the North Atlantic shipping. Thousands of planes, tanks and trucks were shipped to the Union when they were in dire need (before the USSR could mass produce their own heavy hauling trucks, IS-2s, T-34-85s and actually good planes like the Yak-3 and La-7 replacing generally garbage like the I-16,I-15 and Lagg-3s/early Yak-9s). And don't forget the huge amount of food which was the most crucial after the german capture of Ukranian grain fields, basically Lend Lease food kept the Soviet Army going so that the civilian population can actually eat something instead of starving (and they were still heavily starving). The general consensus is that the Soviets could have likely won without the Lend Lease but it would have been absolutely devastated, the war could have continued for 1-2 years and Russia wouldn't have been an emerging superpower after WW2 suffering through a great depression. WW2 was a great tragedy for Europe either way.

@@sparkster5623 don’t believe anyone is putting food, weapons, vehicles or anything shipped over or supplied by the Lend Lease Act at the same level as those who would go on to use said resources. No one here is downplaying the losses sustained during the war. Simply put though, things likely would have been much worse for the USSR without assistance of any kind, especially at that stage of the war.

I am from Germany and showed this song to a russian friend of mine. He is not that much into rock/metal but this one touched his heart. We are both in our mid thirties and talked about all the things that went wrong on all sides during WWII. Being lucky to have not witnessed the horrors and pain during that era, we came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be possible to become friends back than.
But we are.
Besides the pure epic sound of Sabaton, I really like that make sure that all the good and bad things during history won't be forgotten.
(Fun Fact: a part of the solo is a piece taken from the russian national anthem)

Joakim, the singer, described Sabaton as modern day version of bards, telling tales through their music. They have many songs about World war 1 and World war 2. They have an entire album about the Swedish empire in the 16 and 1700th hundreds, and much more. They have a TH-cam channel called "Sabaton history" with 20-30 minute videos where they explane the history behind each song.

Unless I am completely mistaken it is pronounced "Sah-Bah-Ton". Here's the thing... They do songs like this about all sorts of military feats of bravery. Check out "Winged Hussars" about the Polish army arriving to save Vienna from the siege of the Ottoman Turks.

For some American songs by Sabaton, I recommend "82nd All the Way" and "To Hell and Back" by them. They are about SGT Alvin York and 1LT Audie Murphy respectively.

To me, this is the Russian equivalent of an earlier Sabaton song, 40:1.
When Sabaton played 40:1 live, the Polish people broke out in singing the Polish Anthem -- just like Sabaton does here with the Russian Anthem in the guitar solo.
I ALWAYS have respect for other people, other nationalities, that love their country. And in that, I have a tremendous kinship with them!

You need to react to Sabaton - En livstid i krig, Live in Gotheburg from the Great tour 2020. Its a song in Swedish about the 30 years war. The video have English subtitles, althou they are not perfect you get the feel of the song. Its a really powerfull live preformance.

You need to do all their Polish songs as they, Sabaton, have a great repect for Poland and the losses occurred in WW2, the betrayal, and the fighting spiirt of the Polish people. 40:1 is good to start with, about a Polish unit holding off the blitzkrieg. Uprising : about the Warsaw civilian uprising against the nazis. Inmate 4859 : about Witold Pilecki in Auschwitz reporting what was going on . Aces in Exile : the Polish fighter squadron that helped win the battle of Britain. Thank You, Polska.

oh boy, the sabaton hordes are gonna flock to your channel now! Go for 82nd all the way, Devil dogs or the last battle next! For devil dogs and 82nd all the way they have great lyric videos where you also get some historical facts in the video for context.
This is in same category than Epica and NW, and they say that what they are playing is Symphonic metal. Sabaton is in more metal side tho. I mean there are symphonic elements and electric keyboard noises in there sometimes(not every song) but composition wise very much symphonic still. That one guitar solo in second half of this song had Russian Anthem in it. That sounds epic. I Have a Russian friend who has lived in Finland for many years now, and he had very much tears when he heard this song. He's grandfather was in battle against Germans (Nazi's). And even for me it was emotional song eventhou i am Finnish. Sabaton's Great War is also good, and Winter war where focus is in Finnish soldier against Russians during 2nd world war.

This is Power metal at least how I define it others might disagree. My favorite thing in metal is the when it accompanys of other cultures into the aggression. This is a beautiful example of it. Give ARKA'N Tears of the Dead or Warrior Song, a try I think you'll be impressed. Also Bloodywood-Machi Bhasad.
Also on the patriotic tip, love your land, love nation No matter how flawed or frustrating it gets and always push it to be better.

They made a swedish version and an english version. now the cool thing is that the swedish version you get the perspective of a soldier while the english version is more outside perspective. There are videos of the swedish version with lyrics (the live performance in Göteborg is lit). Sabaton - en livstid av krig, def check that out man. Also the style of this group is called power metal and sabaton brings forth some untold stories of war that have taken place in time just as they sing about some big events.
Their song 82nd all the way is American patriotic otherwise they have Polish, Russian, German, French patriotic songs! Great way to learn history.
And a lot of other nations too, Australia, China, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand (of you count Gallipoli for the ANZACs), Greece, Serbia (on The Great War), and I'm sure there's others I'm not thinking of.
