Great to see ya here. I don't know if you remember me but I met you in Parque Los Fundadores and asked you about that cool camera you use and then I saw you running on 5th ave. I hope you are doing well. Thank you for watching!
I think it depends when you were planning to go. April to August is the worst. I was here in January and it was ok. Playa is a great place but the seaweed is just getting worse all the time. Thank you for watching!
Funny thing is that new resorts are going up in record numbers despite the Sargassum. Resort owners must think the seaweed situation isn’t going to stop people from coming down !?
They have to come up with a solution. There is so much money at stake. I think they will start trying things to make it better. Thank you for watching!
Thx for ur updates on the seaweed. It doesn’t look good! I have friends that just returned from Mexico and they said it was bad this year. Very concerning and a factor for many thinking about a vacay in Mexico 😩
It seems like some beaches are better than others. What beach were you on? Zenzi is horrible. Playa Del Carmen is good and bad depending on the day. Constiuyentes is bad in the morning and then they clean it up. Thank you for watching!
Red tide affects respiratory but I think it’s best to avoid the sargassum dried up on the beach. The sargassum smells like rotten eggs but not as bad as red tide.
Ride Tide is worse for the respiratory system. What did the hospital say? Is he OK now? They say sargassum is OK for the first 48 hours after it leaves the ocean but then starts to become toxic.Thank you for watching!
What month were you going to come to Playa? November..December...January might be ok. I just won't pay for a beach front place and spend huge money. Let me know where you go and if it is any good. I am looking for a place for next year. Thank you for watching!
Puerto Escondido is a cool place but it is on the Pacific side. No seaweed there. Very different over there. Puerto Morelos is just north of here and they are getting the seaweed too. Good Luck. Let me know where you go and if it is good. Thank you for watching!
Really! I did not know that. What month of the year was it? The water is just looking nasty right now in Playa. It has to be affecting tourism! People will not be coming back if you can't go to the beach! Thank you for watching!
Between the red tide and the seaweed, I'm watching it closely as we have a trip to the area planned for July... Like you said in the video though, I'm not going to pay thousands of dollars to go down there and not enjoy the beach.
I had a run in with the Red Tide in Florida and I got this weird cough from it. I don't know which is worse. I stayed on 15th street back from the beach in Playa and walk the beach in the morning and sunset. I think I might go to Playa in November to March next year. I hear it gets worse April to August. Thank you for watching! Let me know what it is like in July.
Looks like it gets better further on down the beach. They have no reason to clean up the area where you are. Can you walk down farther away from the ferry pier in your next video (towards the El Faro lighthouse)? I would assume it gets much better once you head down the other end of the beach
I hope you saw the El Faro seaweed video I just did. I have friends at El Faro and it is a great place. I am trying to get in there for next winter but there are no spots. Maybe with all the seaweed there might be spots. I am going to do a video down near the Ferry Dock later this week. Thank you for watching!
Hmmmm good point! I will have to ask about that. Nice point! Could be a win win....get rid of the seaweed and use if something good. Thank you for watching!
I am doing a video for this Saturday and I just read that it is supposed to be better this summer than last summer. But......the seaweed was supposed to start in April and this is here now in March! I hear that it is worst April to August..... I have not been here in the summer before. This is my first time here but I have been talking to a lot of people here and expats and they say that it is getting worse every year. Thank you for watching!
@@sargassummonitoring I might come up to Cancun one day. I have been over to Cozumel and no seaweed on the west coast of Cozumel. Good snorkelling and clear water in Cozumel.
I've seen this happen from time to time living in Florida, and it can take a few weeks to clear out. It's a minor nuisance when you live by the beach, but I'd be pretty upset if I happened to pay thousands for a beach vacation to find this.
Yes! Agreed! El Faro is a pretty expensive place and you pay to be on the water and it smells and you can't go in the water. I think more people will just hang out at their hotel pools. It will slowly kill the tourism industry here. Too bad. Thank you for watching! Does Florida Gulf coast get the seaweed or just the Atlantic side? Thank you for watching!
Ya.....I think a lot of people are saying that. I think people will just book for earlier in the year and go home earlier when the seaweed starts. But I came here January 1st and it has gotten worse and worse by the day since then. There must be another place to go with good weather, a beach, and no seaweed. Thank you for watching!
It is different one day to the next. I think it depends on the winds and currents. They said this year was not supposed be very bad. But this is my first year here and I don't know what it was like last year. Tough to swim with all this seaweed. Thank you for watching!
Yes....I think so.... I wonder if it is good for fertilizer....someone in the comments just asked if it can be used for a good purpose????? Thank you for watching!

No Barriers yet but expect them soon. The last two years they’ve come in April and May.

We say it nice hotels in Florida that are 15 minutes from the beach for $75 a night, many areas in Florida are cheap
Good point. I won't pay to be on the beach anymore. It is better to go back from the beach and safe money. Thank you for watching!
Just when I thought it was getting better. I'm going there on the 13th and I am very worried
Oh boy! Not good. Are you going to Playa?
@@leonardsheatravel Yeah. I might have to go to Cozumel or Cancun for the beaches.
How toxic is the sargassum? My grandson was taken to the hospital while on vacation because of the red tide.

That’s a hell of a lot of seaweed. I wonder what the locals think of it. Is there a concern of what this does for air quality?
I think the locals are concerned because tourist will stop coming to Playa and that will affect their livelihood. Thank you for watching!
when it rots it releases hydrogen sulfide, an acrid, rotten egg smelling substance that can cause respiratory irritation
It looks like the seaweed has a mind of its own! 🤔
