  • Rumours that saying link in bio in your Instagram post caption causes your engagement to drop are flying, and it kinda makes sense??? Even if the algorithm doesn't care, then maybe people are tapping away instead of liking/commenting? We ran a little experiment to find out what ACTUALLY happens.

    Instagram just posted from their creator account saying you should only use 3-5 hashtags. Can you run an experiment on the reach of 3-5 versus using 25-30? I don't understand why they would let us use 30 if we reach more people using 5.

    Link in bio-super useful!

    Interesting! I had not heard this rumor. Did you look at varying which post was first? In other words, if each set of posts always began with the "link in bio" version, was your audience less responsive to the repeat because they recognized it from the week before?

    • @HootsuiteLabs
      @HootsuiteLabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohhh, good point! Are you by chance ALSO a scientist?? We'll take that into consideration for the next experiment we do along these lines!

      @@HootsuiteLabs Lol, yes actually, I have a degree in information science. A bigger sample size next time would be interesting to see, too; there are always so many potential variables. It's great to see some breakdowns -- thanks for looking into this and sharing!

    So, "link in bio" posts reach more people... but do they actually go to the bio link? Is it just that the algorithm likes those words, or likes that you're giving people that CTA?

    • @HootsuiteLabs
      @HootsuiteLabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'd probably need to get a job at Meta to find out the answer, but our best guess is that when people interact with your post (spend time on it, go to your profile, click on the link, etc.) the algorithm shows the post to more people. So the answer is probably more the latter than the former - anything you can do that interests people is good for your reach.

    Or the instagram engagement is lower the second time around because you reposted a recent upload

      This is what I was thinking too!

      It's very possible - that's the challenge with AB testing on organic social! Really tough to do a true test, you never know how much of your audience is overlapping. That said, next time we'll make sure to switch up the order of the control and the variable!

    • @cosmicrationale49
      @cosmicrationale49 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think the order is pretty important here... The algorithm might favor the first instance of the image, right?

      @srenmadsen1947 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cosmicrationale49 Or the active followers simply doesn't feel like liking the exact same post again. Or they might even think they already liked it.

    Mate - how many link clicks did you get out of the likes? If I want click on a link in my bio, that my goal.
    Likes are a bit irrelevant. I don’t pay my rent by showing likes on a picture to the landlord

    • @HootsuiteLabs
      @HootsuiteLabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is a really good point. Losing reach / engagement isn't the worst thing in the world as long as your CTR doesn't suffer. I'll pass this feedback on!
