11:40 That's not a problem with wheels in general. macOS has poor mouse scroll support so any mouse (apart from the Magic Mouse, since it has gestures) will not feel smooth when scrolling. If you install a tool called SmoothScroll, it will restore smoothness to your scroll wheel.

Its not the magnet! Its the metal ring on that charger that reflects the laser in a weird way. The sensor thinks its moving. If it was from the magnet it would still do it after blocking the sensor.

There are a few things that leave me questioning if this mouse it worth it. First of, it looks like the "brass" body isn't actually brass with this particular mouse. Looking on the inside of it during the disassembly, it looks to be stamped aluminum that's been anodized or otherwise gilded. Could be the lighting in this video, but I swear that I saw raw aluminum on the inside. If I ordered brass, I'd expect solid brass like they tout on their Kickstarter page. Second, all the expensive "gamer" mice out there tout having 15000+ DPI sensors, have better quality switches and scroll wheels, etc. This mouse only has an 800-3000 DPI sensor, so that would result in less precise movement with large (4K or 8K) resolution displays. The scroll wheel appears to be straight out of a $20 budget mouse as well. So much for a premium fit and finish... Although I really do respect and admire the aesthetics of this "Pointer Instrument", I'll just stick with a gaming mouse or Magic Trackpad for my needs.
the brass inside is just not mirror-finish so it looks less "yellow", and you can stamp or cast brass too (it's not a hard metal) with the same tooling. It's also not particularly expensive to use. The sound at 6:08 is also not aluminum, aluminum doesn't vibrate like that, it makes a dull sound. Also, the weight of the brass version is almost double, again because brass is heavier. Not saying this mouse is anywhere near worth it, just that they don't seem to be lying about the brass

I've given up on mice since I started using a Magic Trackpad 2 (never had the 1st generation). one *could* do a small trackball-type deal or fingerstick for multi-directional scrolling instead of a one-directional wheel or touch device, could probably even still go with a brassy/aluminum finish and fit the aesthetic

The leather would probably not age well, unless you're very careful about keeping it clean. Good point on the magic mouse. I've heard a lot of complaints about the stupid design favouring form over function (namely having the charging port on the bottom, rendering it unusable). It would also be a good candidate for wireless charging, though it would still be unusable as a mouse, it would at least look better, as opposed to having it on its side or back when charging, as if it had keeled over and died.

With the white one you have it gets kicked everywhere making the mouse dance. This happens usually if you use any optical mouse with a glossy brighter surface
Well, this is a working luxory object, as far as i can tell from your video. Its for those people, who has to much spare money. And if i look at this, i think the wider mouse bottuns are a design choice, to make it look more pleasant. however i feel like this leather top will look nasty after some time, as it might get dirty and the sweat will also go into that leather.
The mouse goes crazy due to the different in height of the gray circle of magsafe charger. This distance + that kind of surface makes the sensor seeing movements that doesn't exists. But it's not any kind of interference :)
Woulnt the brass over a period of time be rubbed away? Especially with somthing like a mouse where your touching it daily if your buying somthing like this
I know this is a year later, but that would actually pretty cool if you are going for a steam punk aesthetic. Get one of those old-school typewriter looking keyboards to go with it. Personally, I am sticking with my trusty ol' Logitech MX Master 3S mouse (with the matching MX Keys S keyboard). I love how it feels in my hand and the clicks are nice and solid, but oh so quiet.
I havnt used a standard mouse for years. Since I first bought a Logitec Trackball Mouse (the one with the red ball on top with black dots on) I havnt used anything else. A Wireless mouse is handy ...until the battery runs out right at the wrong time, so I dont use those either. Now, having said that; If this company could make a pocket sized wireless trackball mouse with the option of using it wired that charged AT THE SAME TIME ...That would be my dream. Im also a fan of polished stainless steel things too, so if its not too much to ask... Thanks
I know a lot of people say you should use a mouse with your middle ok the scroll and ring finger on the right click. This is so your thumb and pinky are the only fingers on the sides. This should Alleviate the bulge problem. This dose not mean it still isn’t an issue. Just should mitigate it.
The magnets for the top is neat, but... I had a mouse bundled with an Acer netbook that did then same thing, so not the most premium feature itself. Nice touch though.
Well i dont really think its very fair comparison because the magic mouse and this one are very different mice, especially because the magic mouse uses touch which is way more accurate. Tho certainly i bet the buttons feel awesome to press too
I commented on the community post, that it would be heavy, and click would be stiff. Even after watching the video, I still think that. The click didn’t seem satisfying, and I’m surprised he didn’t complain about the weight? Nevertheless, it seems cooler than what I initially thought, and seem like a well-built mouse. The main selling point should be the repairability, with it being leather and brass, I can see it lasting for a long time, and the leather can just be bought separately, or be custom made from a tannery or something.
I know this mouse won't be for everyone considering the price and the popularity of lightweight gaming mouse nowaday, I bet with that brass it'll be too heavy even for day to day use, even more when you're playing games. But I like some design decision especially the modularity of the mouse. Even most of high quality gaming mouse didn't even touch the level of repairability and modularity of this mouse, I can only think few that have the ability to hotswap their microchip, but most of the time you cannot easily replace the board without damaging the mousefeet.
As someone who doesn't use Mac (or any *nix/BSD OS), and uses hard-wired trackballs, I just see this as such an insult to users. It's just a mouse. Yes, it's well-built and from good materials; but the Kensington Expert, a four-button trackball with comparable DPI, is going for less than $90. This is frankly just a way of separating fools from their money. It's nice that it can go wireless two ways and act as a wired mouse in the other, but the fact that you're dealing with an internal USB-C interface on the mouse means that there's probably little to no benefit in terms of dropped inputs or signal latency (which is why I will forever stay wired for input and audio) It's fun when you burn money on obvious scam products. Not so much here, where the product is merely overpriced.
@@AllonKirtchik *nix OSes tend to virtualize all inputs in my experience, rather than communicate at a bare-metal level with the device. They treat it as a file and read that file. That can comedown to user preference, but does increase latency and allow for hang-time. I'd say that overall there's very little "wrong" with USB-C; but rather specifically the way this device has to be implementing it, considering it supports both native Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless (with the dongle). No one in their right mind would create a bare-metal interface when they've got 2 virtualized outputs off the same source, so the only difference has to be whether it goes out via radio or direct antenna. Hence my assumption that this unit's USB-C interface is just the lossy Bluetooth or Wireless, rather than a true wired interface.
@@endymallorn Interesting! I don’t have any recent experience with this, since I’ve been using a BT trackball mostly with my iPad, and it doesn’t seem particularly different from W10 Is your preference something like PS/2? I know some people still use them because of latency
@@AllonKirtchik PS/2 or older, yes, because I do notice the (for lack of a better word right now) “smoothing” happening with my mouse movement in high-motion situations (aka games), or when I’m doing pixel-by-pixel adjustments to images. Yeah, same, even though I have a midranger Corsair mouse now, replacing a 7-year-old broken entry-level gamer mouse (the left click button gets stuck in the OS, leaving me with accidental copies of files). Even though this Corsair mouse was my priciest mouse in my life, it was still around $25-30, converted from Hungarian Forints. The previous mouse was $10 and every other mouse before it was either a cheap $5 mouse or that flimsy mouse came with the family computer. So yeah, we haven't even spent $100 on mice yet!

It has a very similar design to some gamer mouses I’ve seen over the years. I personally prefer my mouse to be shaped like an old skool MS Intelimouse, but with side buttons. Using the Magic Mouse 2 right now, but it gets frustrating when I try to click and it scrolls the page away from my click.
Form over functionality is the motto of luxury products like this. Not a totally bad thing, since this mouse looks beautiful. While this mouse probably runs circles around your dollar store or cheap Amazon mouse, it still most likely pales in comparison to some other mice. Wireless charging seems neat, though.
I can see the use of leather in some areas of the Mouse frame to increase grip, maybe even combined with rubber or hell a composite like car Tyres to bring that grip, but metal? i am not sure, the idea of the mouse is to be lightweight, but heavy enough for some users, there is were the Tiny metal weights for some mice come, but all leather and brass just because we can? doesn't sound good to me, a Carbon fiber mouse, now there you have a very strong and light material and high end if you want to go that far, but brass? i mean I can see some parts of the outer shell or maybe buttons made with a special metal but this is just an expensive gimmick in my opinion.

This mouse is almost just as expensive as my PC
technical execution and second half a ok! ;)
2:47, no, Ken! Don't put it against your face, it's Ramon Salazar's toilet sit! 😂
The mouse goes crazy due to the different in height of the gray circle of magsafe charger. This distance + that kind of surface makes the sensor seeing movements that doesn't exists. But it's not any kind of interference :)
Woulnt the brass over a period of time be rubbed away? Especially with somthing like a mouse where your touching it daily if your buying somthing like this
7:52
your computer is now cursed
(the mouse wants to explore the world too)
My main issue is that hands sweat, and it's not like you can bring a mouse to a dry cleaner. It'll probably look nasty quickly.
Just should mitigate it.
the "holy cow!!" pun was a good one,
Yeah… I totally did it on purpose. 👀
My idea of a luxury mouse is something that has at least 15 buttons on it.
Can you try connecting it using Bluetooth on 1 computer and usb on another and check which one it connects to?
I question the use of leather on a surface that will be subjected to skin oil and possibly sweat on a daily basis.
People who have $250 to just drop on a mouse for the look, I don't think really care about that.
you mean like an couch? or chair? leather has been used that way since forever. also clothing...
Watch straps?
So like car seats?
I'm not even joking right now... I made myself a leather mousepad a couple of years ago. I would totally not mind owning this mouse.
You look very excited in the thumbnail.
8:03 when I used to use a Mac years ago, I discovered the giant cursor thing on accident. TL;DR, it happens when you violently flick ur mouse around.
The pointer instrument? sounds like something that the Pointer sisters use when playing.. :D
The magnets for the top is neat, but... I had a mouse bundled with an Acer netbook that did then same thing, so not the most premium feature itself. Nice touch though.
I've seen ads for this on my facebook feed. I had wondered if the mouse was actually good beyond style.
Well i dont really think its very fair comparison because the magic mouse and this one are very different mice, especially because the magic mouse uses touch which is way more accurate. Tho certainly i bet the buttons feel awesome to press too
Thats pretty cool, I kinna want one.
A computer mouse that has leather? Can't imagine if it becomes "crusty".
I can imagine it, unfortunately
you always give me strong goodtimeswithscar vibes
It looks like the Rolls Royce type. The person that smokes Cuban cigars and eats caviar. I love it!!
I think the magnet made the mosue to vibrate a litle bit, like what hapen on induction oven
This is one of those computer peripherals that uppity blacks would buy just because it looks fancy.
TIL that I can press shift and scroll sideways! Thank you crazy Ken!
I’d probably cast a base for it in Nordic Gold (a copper alloy).
Wait, why non-*nix is important for trackballs? What’s wrong with USB-C? No trolling, just curious
I don’t have any recent experience with this, since I’ve been using a BT trackball mostly with my iPad, and it doesn’t seem particularly different from W10
Is your preference something like PS/2? I know some people still use them because of latency
@@AllonKirtchik PS/2 or older, yes, because I do notice the (for lack of a better word right now) “smoothing” happening with my mouse movement in high-motion situations (aka games), or when I’m doing pixel-by-pixel adjustments to images. Between general input lag and that issue, anything more intense than day-to-day pointing deserves a dedicated input.
11:15 “My money don’t jiggle jiggle, it folds”
Ken: Sometime, the scrolling.....feels rough.
Me: Well, you do have a mouse made of leather.
Not a bug, a feature: it's an 'activity' mode so you can leave your desk and work thinks you're still at your computer! :)
Imagine the smell after 2 years of "heavy" use
Brass is shiny, but not for so long. With use it will get a patina over time, which I actually like but not everyone likes it so be aware of that
Waiting for a mouse cast in bronze. Get the patina and the polish at points of contact.
Does the mouse freak out with other magnets?
They need to make matching keyboards, was surprised that they didn't have them.
A leather enclosed mouse, don’t know why but it sounds kinda kinky to me!
You got the regular steel one to dee if there are any differences.
And I’m guessing that to keep it clean you’re going to need a leather cleaner..
I don't think my combined computer mice purchases over the past 30 years totaled $250.
Anode, Linode, Cathode. The Linode must be the center tap included in all batteries.
Now you just need a leather and brass pc and keyboard for it to go with lol.
make another video where you test the mouse with osu. the best way to test a mouse. i really want a good mouse or tablet so i could finally start playing osu on pc
"I'm not rich enough to know that it's called"
All of the apple stuff in the background: *are we a joke to you?*
Hey Ken, the 70’s called. They said they want the mouse *cough* I mean the pointing instrument back
I'm doing great.... Sponsorblock, adguard....... can it get any better on a dead platform?
8:15 i think its the magnets?
Form over functionality is the motto of luxury products like this. Not a totally bad thing, since this mouse looks beautiful.
While this mouse probably runs circles around your dollar store or cheap Amazon mouse, it still most likely pales in comparison to some other mice. Wireless charging seems neat, though.
NGL I really like the new intro
