Exactly. The only chance of getting a pay raise in the next four years is if you are due a step increase. They have bills to reduce our pensions and several other bills to screw us over.
There are actually quite a lot of Federal employees on Oahu, and a lot of empty positions because Fed wages, even with locality, can’t keep up with the very high cost of living there.
I retired from the the federal government, the military and civilian. I jumped into computing at a very early age, before most even had home computers. Anyway, Back in 1989, I created a spread sheet that eventually merged into EXCEL for my expenses. It's simply amazing to me how my pay supposedly went up every year, but my remaining income, after bills has ALWAYS remained about the same. $1,200 a month in "free spending"; groceries, gas, clothes or everything else we have to borrow to afford. Today, the way the federal government has changed, you're lucky if you have $5 to spend freely. We retirees all got a raise of 2.5% on Jan 1 2025. Our insurance went up and like EVERY year I've been retired, (7 years now), my pay decreases. This year I'm making $30 a month less than last year. Actually, after being retired for 7 years, I now draw roughly $400 a month less than the year I retired due to tax and insurance increases. POINT BEING: The government retirement system IS NOTHING like it was 20-30 years ago when EVERYONE wanted a government job. They have failed so badly at keeping up with wages and destroyed the retirement (yet congress was exempt somehow). Contrary to popular belief, most federal employees make around $60,000 a year outside of D.C.. And they work you to death with 16-18 hour days (but legally you can only work 12 hrs. so you work for free 4-6 hours per day). At one time, everyone was happy to do it because it paid off in retirement; NOT TODAY. YOU LOSE! Had I started in the civilian workforce, which I did before 17, I would have been a millionaire today! I moved up to the point that a civilian company would pay me CEO wages (WAY OVER $80,000 a year). . I had over 600 employees producing billions of dollars in military equipment every year. And you (Tax payers) paid NOTHING! It was all paid for by foreign countries buying it. I retired earning a salary of $80,000 a year; working 24/7. After 38 years; I get $222 a month after insurance. How can you live off that? You can't. Most buy more gas than that each month. HOW! Because the system changed for the worse. For me, I paid 100% of my career into SS. YET, if you retire from the government, you only get 60%. And your 401K (TSP in government) it loses money month after month yet all my civilian friends say theirs keeps going up while they draw $1-2 thousand a month. ALL INSANE!
Wow, that's a lot to digest. As I said previously 2.5% increase in 2025 for civilian workers did nothing to help with the COL but it's better than nothing I suppose. With the passage of SS Fairness Act (signed into law), you should start receiving 100% of social security in addition to your government pension which will help as well as help the rest of us too who have 40 quarters in SS from the private sector. It's all a game and we the people are not winning.
Just wait until the pay raises are signed. No need to even worry about it until then. These early pay proposals are always made by Congressmen who have high numbers of Fed employees in their districts. It’s just lip service at this point.
his last term gave us more COLA than Obama who gave us 3 years of pay freezes (2009,2010, 2015 0%) and a 4th nearly 0...(2016 0.3%)...Trump gave us a 2.0%, 2.8%, 1.6%, and 1.3% for an avg of 1.925% over 4 years vs Obama giving us 1.1% avg over 8 years
@@sevalle 1. Obama was hamstrung by budget negotiations with the Republican Congress. 2. Trump has nominees that are significantly more antagonistic towards the federal workforce than his previous term.
Why would we expect to receive raises every single year? I don't know anyone in the civilian population getting raises, even small ones, every year. We seem to forget we are paid on the backs of tax payers. Accountability is important in every agency.
We've all gotta calm down about that. We don't know what Trump will actually say he wants to do, and we also don't know how likely he'll be to succeed. Eliminating federal jobs isn't simple and can take a long time, and it could also get mired in legal battles. I think it's interesting that none of my senior management is too worried about what's coming, and they think a lot of it is nothing more than bluster. I hope they're right!
The worst for DoD employees will be the return to pre pandemic telework. Which I don’t care about. Lots of senior managers hate telework and are eager to get rid of it.
All federal contracting offices have been suspended from awarding, signingm and engaging in any contracts. Time to get out of the cush jobs and get to work like the rest of us.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Federal employees work extremely hard. Contract negotiations are part of employing any unionized workforce. If your workforce isn't unionized, I highly recommend it.
@@amross2112 Well, good luck. Because the cuts have aleady started and most of us out here are 100% for it. Unions are a bane to society and productivity. I let go of anyone that attempts to unionize in my businesses.

Who is greedy? We aren't paid through his personal pocket. This is about how tax payer money is being spent. Our salary is on the backs of tax payers. The majority of civilian tax payers rarely receive yearly increases or a pension. I recognize this as a federal employee and understand the need for scrutiny.
With rumors of pay and hiring freezes, it's way too early to even think that far ahead for me!
Exactly. The only chance of getting a pay raise in the next four years is if you are due a step increase. They have bills to reduce our pensions and several other bills to screw us over.
2% this year while insurance and everything else has gone up equates to a negative pay raise.
My pay check went up $2.00 a paycheck.
We will be lucky to get anything over the next four years.

Hawaii needs to cut at least 70% jobs in Hawaii Federal so called employees as they have no value especially managers

@kristinab1078 Every full-time job I've had outside of govt, I've gotten annual raises for inflation.
That’s because he screwed everyone in 2025 so he figured he be nice in 2026.
2% avg in 2025, as high as inflation has been?
Yes, it's a joke if you ask me.
Well, it’s shows how much we got scammed this past year.. a 5.4 spread.. it should have been closer to a 4% raise.
No surprise about Schatts. He’s all about feds. He sponsored the TSA Pay equity bills with Benny Thompson
