    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You saved me from throwing away my Mini. Kensington Motors here in Las Vegas told me the cold start and stall symptom was carbon buildup and for $3800 they would fix it. Bought the HPFP online from Mini of Kennesaw and with your video's help after about a 1 hour install my Mini started immediately.

    I did this on my R55 tonight. The only thing that took time was waiting for the HPFP to cool down enough to work on in. If you can, work on the HPFP when the engine is cold. It cranked up like a charm as soon as the part went on. Thanks!

    I was just quoted $1500 to have mine replaced.
    After throwing a fit at my mechanic of 15 years for the quote, I’ve decided to do this replacement myself.
    I stopped working on cars in the 90’s because of all the emissions bs and computers. I feel after watching your vid that it isn’t all that bad. Thanks for the link in the description. That’s a HUGE cost saver. You gained a subscriber!
    I’ll update once I’ve done the replacement

      Man, it's taken you 4 years to replace that pump? must be a tough job lol.

      @@tristenmueller9160 lol. My mechanic actually called me back to regain my business. Ended up ordering new part from China for half the cost and my mechanic installed it.
      At that time an O2 sensor went out, discovered a broken bolt on the oil filter assembly, and several other misc problems. The check engine light kept coming on coming home from the mechanic after every repair.
      I finally just took it to BMW and traded it in for a used Mitsubishi they had on the lot.
      I bought the mini cooper for $5500. All those repairs and parts in total was $5000.
      I’ll never buy another Mini Cooper again.

    • @mavowar72
      @mavowar72 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tristenmueller9160 the Mini cooper ran great for about a year and a half before the waterfall of problems happened. I did find paperwork from the person who originally bought the car in 2009. Apparently she had several problems with it after purchase. Even considered reporting it under the Lemon law. Sounds like BMW did everything they could to prevent her from doing that.

      Let me know if both are the same as it pertains to you getting a piece of the action. I plan on getting a spare shortly to stash away for rainy days
      When I go to your Bimmer Dude website the link for the HPFP takes me to a BMW part. Half front bumper.
      Your intercooler link from your site also takes me 2 the half bumper part.
      Thanks again. BTW I posted your links on North American Motoring.

    Replacing my HPFP this weekend. My 2012 R58 JCW has the same model pump as the 07-09 S, yet not covered under the extended warrantee. My issues started a few months ago when the car would have rough cold starts. At the time I thought it was just due to the cold temps here in NJ. Then two weeks ago it went into limp mode while normal driving. I went to the nearest shop where they said it was a bad ignition coil. They replaced all 4 spark plugs and faulty coil. The car ran normal for one day, next day I had a rough start. The car struggled to stay on for around 10-15 secs then once it settled it ran well. The next day the engine check light came on with misfire codes P0300 and P0304. I took the car back to the shop and they said the problem was probably carbon build up. I did a Seafoam treatment, but did not see much, if any black smoke come out, which led me to look elsewhere. At this point the car would start and immediately shut off on cold start. On second attempt it would struggle, but would settle after 15-30 seconds. A couple of days ago I got the half yellow shaded engine picture warning, which means loss of power. Yesterday I get the same warning light, I checked the codes and It had code P3091. This code is for low pressure in the fuel rail.

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ah man so sorry to hear that man.. and whats worse you were trying to be diligent about getting it checked out too.. I will be doing a video shortly on ways to tell if your HPFP is the culprit since it takes day and sometimes weeks to find out the pump is the problem with out a code for it. GL Ray

    • @rayt1586
      @rayt1586 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Update: I replaced the HPFP last Moday. Took under an hour, very straight forward install. I re-used the fuel lines and so far so good. Only issue I had was my check engine light did not go away even after disconnecting the battery several times. In order to get the engine light to turn off I had to clear the 5 stored codes...P0300 (Random multiple misfires) and P03001-4 (misfire on cyl 1 thru 4). There was one tricky part to clearing the stored codes...The codes will fail to clear if the car is running, It must be done with the car off and ignition in on position. Car is running great, thanks for your video, it gave me the confidence to do this repair on my own!

    Used this video to help replace my HPFP after symptoms pointed to it failing (no trouble codes, no CeL). First couple of start ups were hairy and it threw up a low rail pressure code, after clearing that and a few start ups later it’s sweeter than it’s been for ages, even the gas pedal feels more responsive! In terms of what fails, on mine the seals that I could see had perished, Imagine the same was happening on the inside too. Thanks Bimmerdude.

    So! My 08 r56 is having same issues for HPFP going out. As a mechanic and watching your channel (thank you btw) I can do the change out no problem. HOWEVER. I called Mini Cooper of the Woodlands and had them check my VIN to see if I was covered by the warranty. Being an '08 with 91k on it, the lady in charge of warranty confirmed (w/VIN#) that I was covered and we made then apt for me to come in. So I leave my casa at 6am to drive down to the woodlands friday morning. The kid at the service counter checks me in and when he re-verified my VIN he tells me that I am NOT covered. Manufactured date of an 08 is 07. I calmly explain the fact that I drove from a long way a way and made sure I was covered before even coming in. He says "ill go talk to my service manager to see if there is anything we can do."

    My 2010 r56S would randomly shut off. No codes generated. The dealer had it twice for a week each time. They never experienced the engine shutting off. I took it to an independent shop nearby who said it was the high pressure fuel pump. They quoted me $1800, saying the pump would cost $1200. I declined the repair and traded the car. It also needed an auxiliary water pump ($450) and the “walnut blast treatment “ for carbon buildup ($1300). 92,000 miles on the car. We miss our Mini.

I am sharing this so others will not lose money like I did and buy from an untrustworthy source.

    Old car but only 25000 miles and mine just packed up.
    Warranty covered it all, the part was £1005, labour was 1.5 hrs £60.
    How much was yours?
    Was going to sell her as these pumps die randomly I've learned,it's a joke part that Mini BM won't acknowledge here in UK.
    Info was superb BD as usual,I can now rest knowing part can be sourced reconditioned and easily fitted.Would like to keep her as wife really loves it and honestly I love it.

    I recently bought an R55s and I feel like I got screwed over by the previous owner (shady offer up deal) and now I’m left with a car with issues. My car started to throw the P3091 code on and it idles weird when it starts. I’ve already replaced a bad coil and checked fuel lines and it doesn’t smell like gasoline. Really need some help here😣
    Also, I love the bimmer! I have a Z3 2.8 myself! Both manuals 🤘

    Dude amazing job, you really got me inspired to do it by myself! Just one question, i am a DS3 owner, and citroen says that the fuel rail needs to be exchanged as well, do i really need to replace it? Also, great channel, glad i discovered it by this vid, you're going big!

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gabriel Beloti hey Gab thanks for watching the chanel! It is highly recommended that you replace both the low pressure fuel line & and high pressure line . You cukd get away with reusing your high pressure one though. The other is a toss up honestly since the plastic clips on the fitting sometimes break. Glad I could inspire you and i really appreciate the words of encouragement! ~bimmerdude

    Ok, Good info, But I take issue with your removal of the low pressure fuel hose. BMW says to remove the hose with "Mini Fuel Line Quick Disconnect Tool" which you say is unnecessary. I copied your method for removing the hose, and in my case, I damaged the fitting (little plastic tabs inside the fitting fell out). After I installed the new HPFP I found that the low pressure hose still seemed to attach OK, so I test drove the car. Within just a couple of minutes I started getting error messages identical to what I had before replacing the HPFP. "Power has been reduced, have the car evaluated by dealer" I stopped the car, and there was a strong smell of leaking gas. Put the car in the garage, and took a look at the HPFP fittings with a flashlight. There was a lot of fuel in the area of the fuel pump, some of which was vaporizing into smoke, giving me a good scare.
    My bad, I should have never decided to try running the car after I damaged the low pressure fuel line. I'm responsible for the bad decision here, but I removed the fuel line based on your "no big deal, you don't need the tool" guidance. So, ultimately I have now ordered the tool ($65) and a new low pressure fuel line ($135). I was raised by an aircraft mechanic who's slogan was "If the tool's not right, the man's not bright." This experience reinforced that view.

      I can tell you about my DS3, running with the 1.6 THP engine.. If you have low fuel pressure in the rail, if it drives, it won't accelerate, could back fire at low Rpm (which can destroy your cat) and idle lumpy. The pressure will build back up if you don't ask a lot from your engine, the management light may well go out also. Then when you test it and give it some tyre shredding, find yourself pulled over and contemplating recovery. Hope that rules out your high pressure fuel pump. Not cheap - _-

    Quick question. I have an R60 and the fuel pump looks the same as yours but I haven't bought any parts yet but on the small cluster where the steering wheel is located it's happened twice now showing me an image of half of a motor and it kinda freaked me out. Small scan couldn't show me anything for codes and I don't even have a check engine light on the big speedometer cluster. Any help would be nice. 😅

    This video was very helpful. One question, after replacement of HPFP, it doesn’t seem to be delivering fuel. I pulled the fuel line off near the steering rack, and fuel is not being delivered past/to the hard line. This wasn’t an issue before replacing HPFP. Fuel pump is getting 12v too. Not sure if anyone has ran into this issue before?

      thanks for watching! yes sir sounds like your typical slow dying high pressure fuel pump. the reason it takes 3 trys to get it started is because the fuel pressure is having to build back up from a very low psi. These fuel pumps need t have at minimum 500psi constant working pressure for your car to work properly

      The solid metal one with a nut is supposed to be replaced because it relies on a metal to metal contact that needs to be pristine. Glad to know you didnt change it and have no issues. I need to take mine off to swap 2 injectora and dont really want to spend £35 just that that!

    Hi! Great video as always! I have the same car as you have. Mine is the 2009 S. I get rough cold start, started two days ago. Upon morning startup, the engine would stumble/rumble (misfire in all cylinders) like it’s about to die, then RPM picks up to about 3K and slowly settles down to where it’s usually around 800. Then all goes well like normal with the exception of the check engine light being on. I drive about 16 miles with a couple of stops and it starts like a champ, so it’s clearly a morning first start issue only. I cleared the light using Carly app. Problem comes back each morning. Today is day 3. According the online research of the symptoms, it looks like the pump is going bad. Online search for pump yields two kinds: the plastic one that goes in the fuel tank and the exact one you’re showing in this video. My question is: how many pumps does Mink Cooper S turbo have? And which one should I replace given the symptoms I described above? Would really appreciate your input. Thanks

      @@josuemartinez2905 I did. Mini fixed it for free. Mini has extended their warranty under class action lawsuits (10 years or 120K miles). This also applies to timing chain, passenger seat occupancy sensor, HPFP, and others I forgot. Depending on your mileage/year, your local Mini will fix it for free. You can also get reimbursed for the timing chain (parts and labor) if you have a receipt. Read the pdf I linked below. You can print it out and bring it to Mini
