    I had a GM1 and the lack of a view finder was a deal breaker for me at the time and I traded it. However with time and a few years of smart phone usage, I'm more used to using the rear screen. I think now it's not a deal breaker.
    Hopefully the flat top range finder style will spawn a new GM or GX micro four thirds.

    @TheRealMarxz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    No viewfinder = no deal, sorry but.. just... no to no viewfinder. While I support the idea of expanding the S range one thing I've noticed since moving from Canon EF to R even with the R's smaller RF lenses basically anything beyond 50mm the size and weight of the full frame lenses really shows where the Micro Four Thirds system shines and why I'll be keeping that as my every day and travel system and just use the R for wildlife (ironically with my EF telephoto lenses on an adaptor) and for genuinely low light situation when/if I can afford something close to equivalent to my fast MFT primes

      @Democratiser 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me, LUMIX 14-140mm is the lens that demonstrates the size and weight advantages of MFT. But I keep my 5DIII and EF lenses (which are also adaptable to L-mount) and don’t need an RF mount camera body. But I’d love to get the S9 because of its size, and video and AF capabilities, and IQ. I’d also love a MFT version of the S9 with additional goodies like an EVF and built-in flash and full size HDMI!

    You make some good points. This could be a great camera. I also think that Lumix may have another similar camera to the GX9 but in FF in the pipeline. I think patience is key.

    Sadly it is targeted towards videographers/vloggers. No EVF and no mechanical shutter. Heres hoping Panasonic would make a photography centric variant of it

      Yes it is unashamedly video centric.

    Based off the short video snippet they dropped to prep for the release I have a feeling this will be more so in the same market as the Sony FX30. LCD screen only video focused camera. We shall see in a few days !

    Looking forward to smaller lenses. The current size lenses on that little body would negate the small size. I’m hoping it’s better than just what one would expect for a s100. Also curious to see if it’s a metal body. It’s very Leica dlux looking. If it has reduced record times it will not compete with any cinema camera. Just a FF blogging machine.

    It’s not hard to figure out the target market for this camera…My 19 year old granddaughter has become very interested in photography. I bought her a classic Olympus Pen E-P1 and she is having a ball and taking some great shots with it. She never gave it a thought that it has no viewfinder…all she has ever used is a phone.

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I think the average person buying this camera doesn't even comment in camera forums and doesn't care that much about features. Just 'Oh look it's Full Frame, it's small, and I can make TH-cam videos with it!'
      That being said I might still be tempted. 😄

      100% correct! My 18yo daughter loves the Fujifilm X10 I gave her. It is her EDC camera and also a fashion item and discussion point. It is a lovely looking small camera.

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marcrodet4900 I think there's many young teens/young adults new to cameras that barely know the basics of photography and just see influencers on TH-cam and their recommendations. So things like mechanical shutter and sensor speed are just 'whatever' to them. The commercial advertising this cam is literally a bunch of high school kids just hanging out together. So they are expected to be the majority of buyers. But it's still interesting enough for serious videographers/photographers that may want a small second camera.

    The benefits of full frame? - none, in modern world. Bigger, heavier, especially lenses, exaggerated small DOF, unnecesarily bigger files (50MP, serious?)... what is it for?

  • @robmcd

    It might have a rangefinder style EVF?

  • @user-rt7tk5db6f
    @user-rt7tk5db6f 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I am a Japanese LUMIX user.
    Since there is no EVF and no mechanical shutter, it seems safe to assume that it is almost exclusively for video. However, even if it's only a few hundred dollars cheaper than S5II, I think young people and seniors who can't afford to own multiple cameras will choose the S5II, which has more functions and can be used more often, even if it's a little more expensive. If a completely new function could be realized using only software, it would be enough to put it on the S5II.
    If you are looking for small size, light weight, and mobility, MFT is the best choice, as LUMIX themself said, and in fact, the image quality of MFT should be almost as good as that of full size. This is clear from the fact that other companies use APS machines instead of full-size cameras.
    I think the S1 series was updated first for the full size.
    I feel disappointed.

    • @Democratiser
      @Democratiser 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the S9 is a camera that lumix ‘had to have’ to compete with C100vi and A7Cii etc. I’m sure the refresh of the S1 etc will follow in due course.
      But the key parameter here really is size. So the EVF, mechanical shutter and full sized HDMI port had to go. I really hope there is a hotshoe EVF that is compatible with
      I’m not too fussed about lack of mechanical shutter. The lumix sync function should address banding for video
      It is the micro hdmi port that is the biggest downside for me.

    Would be cool if the Leica Visoflex 2 worked as an EVF plus a lumix version as well

  • @overnightdelivery
    @overnightdelivery 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Two easy to add things that would of made this is an easy buy for me. Mechanical Shutter and a HotShoe for flash or future EVF.
    These things would not have been expensive or added hardly any bulk to the camera. This would of made it great for vloggers AND photographers. The only explanation is that Panasonic has plans for a similar Photo version of this camera at some point OR (more likely) they didn't want photographers choosing it instead of the s5ii. So of course they didn't want to release a camera that did too much.
    I'd STILL be tempted to buy the S9 only if somehow the digital shutter doesn't suffer from bad rolling shutter or banding. But I don't see how.

    When I started digital photography I used a Canon point and shoot Power Shot camera, their was a little viewfinder on the camera, as time went by the view finder was removed from the point and shoot camera and i went and purchased my first DSLR, the one main reason why I hate using a camera phone to take photos, you guessed it, no view finder, but a smartphone lacks all the functionality of a camera. So the S9 is no Bueno

    The f8 lens that was teased yesterday seems a bit odd, but at least it's small. There's going to have to be something small but with a real world fstop. 2.8 is fine. I'm not a bokeh bro. Lumix should def give you one man! You are dedicated.

    i am not sure really. i think the camera will look closer to a gm1 but with three more colours besides the black one. i am not sure about the no viewfinder.. i think this is a no no..but people tend now to take pictures by looking at the screen. also it is strange that they went to the full frame route. if this is a competitor of the ricoh and fuji i would have gone to the apsc route.
    i believe the lens is too small.. if it is full frame i would have gone for 35-70mm or maybe a 28-80 mm or something like that. but then again maybe people will use a pancake. if lens is very good and sharp people can always crop. But again no viewfinder. if there is no connection to a electronic viewfinder like some old lumix then the viewfinder with be and optical one. i just not sure about this camera. i believe they are missing the point to compete to to the two great cameras out there the griii and the x100 vi.
    i think it is probably more a competitor of leica than those two cameras but maybe not. leica will release a better camera. a fun factor the colour scheme. i would probably go for the green one or blue. if those rumours are true.

    I think Panasonic missed the opportunity to really profit by simply refreshing the GM1 with an EVF for around 700-800 along with a MFT mount but S9 is not only 1500.00, but Panasonic consumers expects consumers to purchase the camera along with new lenses. The S9 doesn't even come with an EVF... That's really disappointing. I use it all the time. I love the look but I rather use my GX85. I already spent thousands on lenses. I am a MFT fanboy though so this is just a purely opinionated comment.

    S9 has no Shutter an no evf.Also only a little big smaler as the gx9.And a good lens is even bigger than mft.Is total not the big benefit.
    For me only the low light performace is a reason to buy. Than i think that for this money a new leica like the 10/25 f1.7 mft lens is the better decision.
    Nice for me is when panasonic use this housing also for a new mft camera with shutter ans nd filter.

      The 10-25mm and 25-50mm are about as good as it gets in Mft. Beautiful images. … but I want an S9 to add to my G9 and 11 MFT lenses (which do not include f1.7 zooms unfortunately)!

      I reckon it is understandable because they are aiming for ‘pocketable’ and something which is a big step up in terms of image quality from an iPhone. Most of the high volume (ie popular) recent products are flat top and with FF there just isn’t much room for a decent EVF.
      I’m hoping for an option hot shoe mounted EVF.

      When the GM1 came out, this was criticized a lot and after a while, they had the GM5. Today both have a fan base.
      The S9 is (according to the rumors) equipped with IBIS, good video capabilities and a flip out screen, so much more capable for a completely different audience. The GM-cameras are more or less stills only with a little bit of video. The S9 seems to be more or less video only with a little bit of stills.

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I actually think not having an builtin EVF is the only way to have a fairly compact FF camera. This is like an FF GM1 WITH a rotatable screen AND IBIS. No mechanical shutter or HotShoe keeps this from being amazing.

      @@Democratiser I've heard many say it is a 'Cold Shoe'. I'm not fully aware of the difference. If you look it doesn't appear to have any flash contacts on it. Maybe there still is a way to function like a typical Hot Shoe or maybe it's just that the photos we've seen so far are not accurate. We'll see on release day soon.
