The scene felt straight out of a Tarantino film and Bill’s acting just carried it the whole way. Might be my favorite moment of the entire show.
Exactly my feeling, Bill was AWESOME in this scene
I came to a point about halfway through Burr and Brake's conversation where I absolutely knew Mayfeld was going to blast the Imperial Officer.
I didn't know when or how, but I knew it was going to happen.
When he yanked his blaster and blew him away, I was like "Yep, knew it was coming, might not have been the best time or location, but it was gonna happen. Beat feet and get outta there."
The whole slow, subtle head shake from Din told me he recognized exactly the same as I did, while the officer was gleefully enjoying the recitation of events was great too.
It was I agree. And the way Mayfeld just shrugs off everything he said to Mando and says: “I never saw your face” is just a great moment.
I think the Imperial Officer helped a lot, not to detract from ol' freckles.
Totally agree!! That was the same sense of suspense as the opening of Inglorious Basterds.
I served 2 tours in Iraq. Saw this scene and imagined Dick Cheney and a couple officers that I knew sitting across from me, thinking about how they killed my friends. Epic scene that I think many vets connected with. Thank you Bill.
Dick Cheney didn't kill your friends, that crap movie 'Vice' is full of shit, just like the whole idea that he was the secret mastermind behind everything. I'm sorry you lost your mates, but don't you think the scum who actually shot or blew them up were chiefly responsible? I would like to know more about what happened. I know vets who hate it when the families of vets blame Bush or the government for 'murdering their son', like their son wasn't a thinking and mature adult who knew he was signing a blank check and could get sent to war.
@@EpicMRPancake Dick Cheney was advocating for invading Iraq while Bush Senior was leaving office.
Many vets went into combat thinking they were getting revenge for 9/11 because of Saddam’s involvement. Others joined because Saddam’s WMDs were a threat to the world. Others joined because they thought Iraq failing would lead to ISIS taking over the world. All of those were and are demonstrably false.
Many in the military and DoD yelled until they were blue in the face and/or denied promotion about how much of a lost cause the war was. Many may disagree about the culpability of politicians and senior officers, but it’s a philosophical difference. The facts still remain.
@@THEMATTHIAS225 You'll find a great number and variety of people from all over the political spectrum were advocating for regime change back in '92, when Iraq was in better shape as a society (before the sanctions, Islamisation and 12 years more facist divide-and-rule) and the mess of post-2003 could likely have been avoided.
I won't even dignify your second point with a rebuttal because it sounds like the argument a 12 year old would make.
You're dead right on the third point, then those same officers shut their mouths when General Patraeus fixed coalition tactics and strategy and practically won the war.
@@EpicMRPancake Who? The freedom fighters who were fighting to liberate iraq from american interlopers? Those guys? Wonder if the bad guys decided to pin the deaths of the deathstar 1 on the rebels just like you're pinning the deaths of american troops on freedom fighters.
@@Pulisemil Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi was a freedom fighter, was he?
We War Vets don't underestimate Bills performance. It resonated with every grunt who got shafted into laying down their lives in Kuwait, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Somebody sat in a $3,000 Armani suit, relaxing in an Italian leather high-back making Millions, ..but it certainly wasn't us. No amount of money can buy back our dead brothers. I really hope Bill gets to pursue this character more. If he ever needs research material, he's welcome to visit his local VA center. There's a great hospital in Texas where Veterans with missing limbs are rehabilitated. A perfect place to start. Lord knows I spent enough time there.
if you dont wanna go to war, dont join the army.
@@SamTheManWhoCanTwice I used to think like that as well. I thought those who lost their lives going to war, willfully, deserved it. How do you claim to fight to for freedom and rights that while taking somebody else's rights in their own country and invade it? But some footage of men being interviewed in Vietnam showcased how they were deceived into thinking they were heroes but really had no means of making money in their own country. Some were young, straight out of high school, didn't have any future prospects, were too poor but the army offered them benefits and monthly income. Basically, they were operating out of selfishness but wanted to feel like they were doing something worthwhile.
@@suzygirl1843 but it's always amazed me how American soldiers justify blowing up peasant villagers as doing good, great commeny by the way
Just curious, why join then?

Bill is a reality check on everything he touches.
100% Accurate !!!!!
Except his wife
Ian McKellan: “What I do is I *pretend* to be the character I’m portraying in the film or play… and how did I know what to say? (whispers) the words were written down for me in a script… how did I know where to stand? People told me 🤷♂️ “
😆
Lovely sarcasm from a master.
I love that scene from extras so much
I rewatched it and he's right, Bill did nail it. You could see him sit back and try to hold it in and then start rocking back and forth working his jaw trying contain the rage until the f'it moment came.
At one point in that scene Bills literally looks like he's about to throw up in his mouth
His expressions did it for me, I saw recall, sickness and grief, then lashing out.
Who would’ve ever fucking thought that ol’ Billy Rednuts would have one of the most real and impactful performances in the Star Wars franchise? Billy Auburnballs. Love to see it.
I like that Bill starts with “ I don’t know,” and then gives a clinic on how to authentically act something to life. He does know.
It's because of what he said: he doesn't overthink it. He knows but it may be instinctual knowledge for him.
He doesn't give himself enough credit. Guy is intelligent.
When this scene rolled up, I realized just how much Bill Burr, a comedian of all people, really put in the work to connect to a veteran, and pulled it off quite convincingly. It resonated so much with me, as a veteran myself.
The thing is, comedians are incredible actors. There's a good reason why so many great comedians transition into film so easily. It's because the core of comedy is an act. You're acting to make people laugh. The majority of comedians are a character they inhabit, therefore It's a very natural progression to then become other characters. That plus comedians have to be smart. The profession demands it. All the greatest actors are also incredibly smart. Seems to go with the territory.
Same
@@karadan100 I think the thing is also that the best comedians need to be not just smart as such but _emotionally_ smart - you have to read the crowd, figure out what will make people laugh, find the common denominators in the human experience. So, yeah.
Kudos to the officer (Richard Brake) in that scene too. He set the stage and Burr crushed it.
Some actors have that skill for making every scene partner look better. Jason Isaacs is definitely one, and Richard Brake as well!
Brake was so menacing in this role. Scary af
Honestly one of the best performances in the entire franchise
From both of them. The funny part is the thing I remember the asshole officer guy from the most was the 2005 DOOM movie, but he was on a whole nother level here.
Bill acts like himself, and gets called an actor. Great gig.
I totally disagree. Yeah, he drew off of his own pain. All the greats do. But I felt like he tapped into something else; like he stepped outside of himself, and empathized with his character in this. I was totally taken aback by his art. *Go Billy, go!*
Bill is nothing like that character. He absolutely crushed the role 🖕
Acting as yourself is a valuable skill that not everybody can do well. Bill has great screen presence. Besides, he's shown he's capable of character acting with Breaking Bad and Star Wars
This was a throwaway comment at the time, but I posted on my Facebook that Bill's work was a thing I never realized needed to be in Star Wars-- but clearly did. His episodes were so f*ing good -- the humor being a thing that's very much essential to that universe-- but also the pathos, gravitas, whatever you want to call it. He delivered on all fronts, and I hope to God he comes back again!. Not that I should have been surprised at all, because he did the same thing in Breaking Bad.
MVP comment 😂
One of the best scenes in the episode, I was impressed. Bill brought it, as a veteran myself I felt his pain and sorrow for the loss of his fellow soldiers. I never expected that he could deliver this level of acting. Fucking amazing.
I just googled that scene and Bill was awesome in that scene. You would never guess he wasn't a Star Wars fan. His Portrait of PTSD was so believable.
That performance from Bill in that episode of the Mandalorian was the first time i felt like he wasn't just playing himself but an actual character with a backstory.
Bill’s natural voice is great, but it seems like he could pull off a lot of badass or villain like roles if he was given the right scripts.
I agree, totally can see that
D'ohh jyeezus Mistah Bond, I've been expECTIN YA!
Bill kills it as a comedian and I find it funny he was so good in Star Wars after talking shit about Star Wars. In my opinion Bill Burr delivered the only iconic scene in this new era of Star Wars. It sucked me in and reminded of the draw I felt as a kid.
He was also in the other good scene I liked on that prison ship. His face of fear when Mando was coming at him in those flash lights was convincing as fuck
Yeah, you don't ever fuck with someone who smiles when they get mad. That's just an entire galaxy of pain waiting to happen.
That scene was everything, the facial expressions, the tension, the delivery, good lord such a great scene.
One can understand when he says "Once I read it I knew it would be a great scene", but that writing is surely to conect on delivery because of great conection on the production. They knew what to write for Bill and the director knew how he was going to deliver. It´s just amazing conection between artists!. Bill on that scene makes me religious of the concept that comedians are the best drama performers.
Watching in France, I had no idea that Mayfeld was a legendary stand-up comedian. Now I've watched a ton of his stuff, and he totally got to play himself in that convoy.
I really think Finloni planted him in season one to bring a whole new bunch of people, like me, to his amazing world.
for my brothers who served in OEF and OIF, i miss you all and there isn't a day that goes by that i don't miss the suck with ya'll. I'm 38 now and came in 02' as a 68W, eventually reclassing to 11B(yes, 11B.) I miss my brothers and somedays i wake up in a sunken place. Men, stick with each other and HELP one another. I'm tired of you all dying and disappearing from my life
His bobbing in anger during that scene is so relatable.
how is it that Bill burr gives the best performance in all of star wars cannon? not only is mando understanding whats coming he gives Miggs a slight shake of his head no....perfect acting. I really really hope he returns to this part.
Definitely crushed it. Whatever pain you tapped into, hands down you nailed it.
I love that Bill did this. Only one dude one up'd this scene by having ACTUAL PTSD onscreen. It was the bar scene from Its a Wonderful Life.
Bill was MASSIVELY disadvantaged in these scenes. His huge popularity as a comedian has your brain trying to see his character not as Mayfeld, but as Bill Burr in a plastic costume. But when I was experiencing this moment all I could feel was Mayfeld's pain, exasperation, anger, all focused on this officer. Incredible acting by all, but Bill takes the cake. Pretty good for a married guy, I guess.
That scene is one of my favorite moments in recent television. Bill steals every scene he's in as Mayfeld. Also got a kick out of the Office Space nod with the line about filling out "TPS reports" 🤣
All jokes aside, you really killed that scene. Even knowing you aren't really much of a star wars fan, it felt like you took the role seriously. In this scene especially, i almost felt more from what you didn't do. No screaming and shouting, just quiet churning rage. Really loved it.
I must say your performance in the Mandalorian was absolutely amazing, and that scene was gut wrenching, it was a masterclass in acting.
dude a stormtrooper comedy spinoff with bill burr would be maybe even TOO good
Isn’t there a fan fiction comedy that’s a parody of cops called troops or something already - it’s pretty funny so a legit show has potential
@@johnmchugh8049 I never thought in my life I'd HONESTLY suggest a "canon" star wars comedy spinoff but in the context of mandalorian, bobba fett, and with bill burrs performance...
@@johnmchugh8049 and yeah oh lord I remember Troops, jesus yes a proper production with that and burr you 100% right. I can already see bill burr getting pissed off at the jawas ;_;
Yes but also in this crappy Disney SW, there was a funny scene with Stormtroopers, I think it had Jason Sudeikis. So we know its possible for them.

I cannot describe how much I love that little pop off he does getting told he crushed it
It is a scene that i still remember, one of the few from the entire series. It is brilliantly acted, or maybe it wasn't acted and that is why it touches us, i don't know but it is simply just brilliant scene.
I don’t want to go into detail but as someone with PTSD (from childhood trauma not war-induced) this scene meant the world to me.
Watching the thoughts manifest on your face was amazing. Holy crap, your skills are many.
Mr. Burr - been a fan of your work for years - saw you in Grand Rapids, MI. few years back - thank you for helping us pull our heads out... Your comedy kills.
One of the best scenes of the show.
Mr Burr the bar drink scene was gold. You mastered that performance down to the very eye twitch, that had to be one of my most favorite scenes in the entire series just because of the power of emotion you displayed tells a whole other story. This is the way!!!!!
I loved that quick look on Mayfeld's face just after he shot the officer. Like "I know I just made my life way harder, but I think it was worth it."
You killed that scene. Props!
Star Wars fans ADORE you, Bill... And I was already a big fan. You gave us a fantastic reality based, sensitive scene that just seemed to be written for you... One of the best episodes, and most memorable moments of the show!
I love how excited he gets from a compliment from imperialblastermaster.
I honestly, from times to times, go back and watch that scene, cus it was just THAT good
I remember when bill once said that he plays himself in all his characters. Clearly, the man can act.
absolutely loved your part, when the commander was talking the whole time I was like " aww man this cat is gonna get rooooasted, Bill is just gonna lay down some vicious verbal lashing that will have this dude just stunned " then BLAM!! .......* loud intense laughter..then looks up at the sky* "thank you for delivering this man to us" lol I know you didn't write it but man you delivered a steel performance where the viewer could feel and see your anger growing the more that donkey nut talked about senselessly killing you brothers in arms. The whole time I was like " ok...that's alright...keep talking captain crunch because you're about to get yours"
Hi Bill, just wanted to say that your honesty is refreshing. (Honestly I’m scarred to pull it apart) in a never ending stream of information informative & not, that got my attention. Keep killing the acting game homie.
Incredible scene, Bill! To this day, I'm still going back to it. Easily one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars.
Bill pretty much nailed that episode and probably the best in season 2. Excellent work!!
His whole character in that series was just great… but then to have him play that scene, that subtle escalation and reveal… it was the best scene in the entire series.
"There's a fuckin great program..... Perfect Strangers...." I know Bill we all fell in love with Larry and Balki's quirky relationship in the 80s-90s.
He carries the pain of every dentist’s son.
That was one of the most stellar scenes in Star Wars. So much tension and respect all around. It jusr felt completely real.
He really was fantastic in this role, damn I’m going to watch this episode right now.
Your Ginger, Pain is your religion.
You're Ginger😉
Ginger's don't have souls, so he is used to putting on an act.
Just kidding love you Bill.
Bills timing and sense of presence and delivery have been well developed by his standup I guess.
This dudes versatile af
Rick Famuyiwa wrote the episode and Burr brought the character to life. A perfect 1, 2 punch.
It was indeed flawless, the best scene in the whole show.
We need to get Bill Burr in a big budget film about organized crime. He would kill it.
Bill has an astonishing line of sight on things and happens to usually express it in comedy, but it’s appealing because time and again it’s shit that nobody else noticed, maybe even us, but it was there and we relate while we laugh. This is what sets him apart as a comedian and why many ppl find him an equally gifted actor. I don’t always agree with his take on things but wow do I respek his opinions for said reasons.
Best scene and best character of the whole show! When someone askes me what was really good about The Mandalorian, i think of this episode first.
It's so true, That scene where he shoots his former commander/officer/whatever in the face is easily my favourite from that show :)
Comedy is much harder then drama. Comedy is making pain funny, and drama is just saying it how it is.
One of, if not THEE best comedian of this era and an amazing actor.
Bill Burr. Love this guy.
So many great comedians still in the game, but Bill is at the mountain top he just gets funnier and more relatable every year
You did crush it though. That was One of the most memorable scenes of that season. The build up to Mayfeld shooting him felt real.
A lot of directors like casting comedians for emotional roles.
“Why do you think I’m here” sounded like Batman lmao
The moment where every combat MOS vet fell in love with Bill. Lives wasted in pointless wars is something we definitely understand.
Your buddy is a fucking legend. Sits next to the dude "why do you think i'm here?"
🤣🤣🤣
I loved the look of shock on everyone's face in that cafeteria. Lol.
"I connect with pain" *laughs*
There's my sociopath
Literally one of if not the best acting performances I've ever seen in SW. How you were rocking your head, that look you gave Mando, and the pained smile you gave right before shooting the guy was perfection.
What kind of direction did you receive? Or was it all you?
I have found that vets, specifically combat vets become very empathetic after ETS, because we can so easily connect to the pain of others.
Oh that is so true! You made me cry in that scene. Totally crushed it.
A legitimately captivating scene, made that whole season
Bill joined an illustrious but fairly small group of comedians with astounding dramatic turns. When comedians do this it's often like Bill said: because they connect with pain, often one of the big reasons they became comedians in the first place. Some directors cast comedians in dramatic roles for exactly this reason.
I felt it Billy. That was pretty awesome how you played that role!
Bill knocked it out of the park with this one ❤
Playing the role of Mayfeld in the Mandolorian trippled your audiance my friend. This is the way...💚
A good actor would show, not tell. They might show it on their face, the emotions they feel.
A great actor can tap into the WHAT and the HOW. What happened to Mayfeld and how did that effect him? It's more than just facial expressions.
It's the thousand-yard stare that suddenly breaks as their eyes dart around the room.
It's the rocking back and forth, the self-soothing behaviors as they relive the trauma.
It's the face they make when they're face-to-face with the grim reminder that THAT SHIT HAPPENED AND IT HAPPENED TO THEM.
Bill nailed, NAILED the performance.
This scene gave me tears in my eyes it was really good one n bill killed it also love his stand ups
That episode was the best SW material since the original movie. Phenomenal. Killing the game.
Again, thanks for the clip highlights. Can't get to his podcast twice a week.
Thanks for watching 🙂
Probably the best emoting done by any actor in any Star Wars film, and it was Bill fucking Burr. lol
But I mean, he nailed it. His face looks like he was in a real heated argument with someone right before the cameras started rolling... In this scene he had that tunnel vision look of disgust and knowing that there's no way this asshole gets to live. No way.
..... It's just been revoked!
He nailed it completely. Best scene in the entire show.
That scene alone is the reason Bill needs to take on more dramatic roles. It was a very, very honest performance with a very, very impactful resolution.
Ladies and gentlemen, the multifaceted Bill Burr. Yeah, gotta agree 💯%. Bill Burr is a genius comedian; my absolute, hands down favorite. But I was *SUPER IMPRESSED* at his acting skills as Mayfeld, particularly this scene. He more than crushed it; it was a f@$&ing *GRAND SLAM!!!* The man's a natural actor. I'd definitely pay to see him in other dramatic roles.
A terrific performance, Bill. Bravo and Aloha!
I was an actor for many years and gotta say what you did in the Mando show was truly awesome....exp the scene where you shoot the officer at the table in the bar......you should be very proud and if I only got to do one thing and that was it well noone could have done it better.....oh and your standup stuff and what you say is hilarious....thanks for all the laughs
he did crush that scene though, the death stare to that Imperial Officer was oscar worthy.
He killed it, he seemed like a soldier with PTSD
This scene is painful for all the right reasons. Its hard to watch as someone who has PTSD. Its just so good and cathartic. Even the rocking back and forth he does to try and sooth himself and stop himself doing what he inevitably does. Then the snap out of it realizing he may have accidentally spoiled the mission and lost lives.
We all have to admit, the guy playing the CO fucking nailed it as well.
Star Wars was never known to be a master class in acting but you are outstanding in this series. Everyone on the show is. Favreau is really good at casting people.
He got the privilege of acting against someone with no bucket on their head
🤣
Richard Brake was the perfect guy to put across the table from Bill.
@@ReverseSkeleton that guy really can play a believable scumbag!
@@robinsharkey6658 Brake is a tremendous character actor who doesn't get enough credit.
This character deserved to be more than a temp side character for a couple episodes.
I don't even watch the show and I saw this scene. You are a badass. Your are one of my favorite comedians, if not the top one, definitely my go to. Connect with the character? I seen that character in all of your stand ups, the rage and hate, the mask, the laugh at it or lose your mind. You are the man. "Just put it in a jar, screw the lid on tight and stick it on the shelf. And I can't help but wonder who's gonna get that later?"
I do definitely agree with everything! Especially the spinoff
I had no idea who Bill Burr was until I saw him in the first season of The Mandalorian. Ok. Fine. Nothing to write home about. But, then he returns and his game upped big time. It wasn’t “hey look at this comedian playing a role”…he was awesome and perfect and relatable and suddenly I was a Bill Burr fan. Subsequently, went back and watched some stand up shows etc. He calls it as he sees it with no fear of concellation.
it was a very memorable scene and the look was spot on.
That scene should be studied for acting schools. So much dread and emotions played out between characters just sitting down having a conversation keeping a straight face. All the little subtle things you put into this made it feel like we were getting an actual adult moment in a big toy commercial.
