    Just want to say I owe you a case of beer! My truck was running fine and just wouldn't start one day. There was no gas to the TBI injectors. Changed fuel filter still no gas. Cleaned grounds you show in your video, IT STARTED RIGHT UP. Thank you again and if you want just send me a message. GREAT HELP and THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

    Replaced all the grounds on my 1989 Chevy K2500. Added a few more. Made a huge difference all around. All the lights are about 50% brighter and everything seems to run better. Great video. Thanks.

    Really appreciate this i have a 88 k1500 5 speed 350 short bed regular cab that my grandparents bought new and i have now owned it for 12 years its my baby and i keep it as clean and nice as i can it just now going on 120000 miles. Me and my wife wer headed back from jay Oklahoma with a trailer on and it just died. Everything stayed on (guages radio lights and so on) but it was basically like i pulled the coil wire off thats how it died. No spitting and sputtering. It had blown a fuse I believe it was a 15 amp fuse that said ecu and I believe thats the module that has the “prime wire” to kick the fuel pump on before the engine has started. Put another fuse in it turned key on it started and died popped another fuse. Then put another fuse in it and as soon as i would turn key on the fuse would pop. So with basically having no other options i put a 30 amp fuse in it and it didnt pop (i know it was stupid but was in the middle of nowhere and about a hour and a half away from home. I was hot and flustered. That worked got it home then put a 15 amp back in it and it didnt pop and hasn’t popped for the past 3 weeks then on my way home from work tonight was going down the road and it did the exact same thing everything stayed on but was like i pulled coil wire so i pushed in the clutch went into neutral and was gonna coast it till it stopped but before the engine quit rotating it busted back off and now has me really scratching my head. Obviously the fuse wasnt popped that time. The fuel pump is original to the truck none of the wiring in or on the truck is hacked up or anything so ima check all the grounds you pointed out. Im a hardcore gearhead just the darn thing got me flustered just because of whos it was and it means the world to me but you have givin me a little more to check out so i sure hope i can find something or i warned it that it was going to become carbureted lol sorry for the rambling and thank you wish me luck

      Hey Pernell I got a 94 gmc I'm having the simular issues runs bad, it dies if I don't keep feathering the pedal an will only go 25mph tops. What did you do thanks Todd

      Hey bud I’m having a issue with my 94. 350tbi I’m getting power to the purple wire on the fuel pump / sending unit connector. & No Power On The Grey Wire. Was running driving good. Developed a slight spudder around 100-110. Later on In the day it back fired & died. Couldn’t hear fuel pump running changed it out so no luck. Ran a hot wire to it both pumps work fine.

      Where does the brown wire go into the main harness? I had a rat chew through it and I can’t find where it goes to?

      @@SloComaro I’m not 100% sure but I do know those 2 wires have to do with the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump will not turn on, which will tell the computer/controller to not send spark to the coil/spark plugs. Maybe one end goes to the relay and the other to the computer or the fuel pump, possibly all 3 bcuz it’s 2 wires together.

      @1bakecook1e ⁠yeah my fuel pump will not turn on and the only thing I see is that I’m missing one of the two grounds beside the thermostat. Rat chewed it but I can’t find the wire anywhere in the harness.

    Thanks for showing that grond wire i did a carburetor from tbi swap and didn't connect my ground yet so I couldn't find my fuel pump wire good viedo

    Guy i bought it off of did the distributor, plugs and cables
    I’ve done tbi rebuild, injectors, iac & temp sensor getting ready for a fuel pump but i might have to get these ground cables a look, 1989 chevy scottsdale 2500 5.7 140,000 miles starts and runs but stalls randomly, loss of power also randomly, even randomly stalls after idling a couple minutes sometimes

    My 93 Chevy van cranks, no start! No pump prime. Fuel pump is only a couple years old..after watching your vid, I’m going to check all the grounds I can find...thanks!

    Seeing lot of comments on grounds & hots while chasing my own issues,
    Up by the fuel pump relay under that harness cover is all your "hots" on the firewall, I'm reading tons of comments those are almost hand loose from the factory, I just checked; mine were not that tight also, cleaning them up tomorrow..
    Couple more grounds, ones behind the distributor area from motor to firewall area, also ground strap near the starter..

      Starting issues as far as it not starting on first crank but second time it would? Currently have this issue now it won’t start assuming fuel pump but wit this video I’d check relays and grounds cause mine did have that start issue also

      I just did a new pump and filter, engine cranks, but won't start. I can hear the pump prime when I turn the key, and the engine will start for a moment on starter fluid... what did you end up doing?

      ​@@rednecklife55 On my 93 S10 V6 TBI, I just replaced fuel pump and filter because pump was bad and sitting. Pump comes on but injectors are not coming on. Cranks but no start. Will check grounds, thanks.

    Mine drives fine but when trying to cruise it just makes this tapping, chugging sound after it warms up. It's a remanned motor with only 6k miles on it. I've replaced the tbi gasket, TPS sensor, IAC valve, EGR valve, map sensor, knock sensor, ignition coil, and almost everything else. I'm at my wits end with it. Gonna check my grounds on it tomorrow.

      I've found out that I've got a couple shorts in my wiring somewhere and the tapping sound is coming from the frame into the cab. Can mounts are hashed

    I just did a swap from a 5.0 to 5.7. I’m getting spark no gas tho I’m hoping it’s just a ground. I will check tomorrow thanks for the vid hope it helps me. Just out of curiosity my 5.0 ecm will run the 5.7 correct? Just maybe a little lean?

    Howdy, Thanks for the video very informative.
    Question, please. (Vehicle 1993 Flair motor home 454 TBI)
    My symptom is: Starts for a few seconds and then dies. If I give it the gas pedal, let off speeds ups, then it dies. Keep feathering gas pedal stay lit, won't go high RPMs. But will keep running, if I keep feathering and letting off the gas pedal.
    Turn key on start, starts a few seconds dies. If give it gas to accelerate in park it dies.
    I can do the gas pedal thing give it gas let off, give it gas let off, and will stay lit, RPMs go up, as I stop doing this it dies. Suggestion to check, please. Thanks.

    Had static in my audio speakers thought they were cracked also gauges didn't work properly found a ground that wasn't grounded. Fixed. Ground issues are 90% of problems.

    I'm chasing a won't start after shutting off when hot randomly or will randomly stall when idling... figuring a ground up front is my cause as fuel pump is running but injectors not squirting. Dump a splash of fuel into the TBI and she will catch.

      I have what sounds like exactly the same symptoms. I looked at several websites that said the ignition control module can cause it to stop running when it heats up. A new IGM did not cure it so now I’m testing the fuel supply. I’ll dump a little fuel in it and see if it will run when hot.

      @@paulbaker3144 Mine ended up being a intermittent grounding issue on the sending/fuel pump unit that finally just stopped being connected....that happened in the driveway thank you. Did not pin point the ground break spot but think it is within the grommet exiting the sending unit. Had another sending unit and that fixed my issue.
      My hint of the issue is finally the fuel gauge stopped working as well...was kinda off/on in resistance prior.

      Thanks for the ideas. I’m getting erratic intermittent readings on fuel pressure and voltage so will keep tinkering with the wiring. Im wondering if hot wiring power direct to the pump will bypass faulty wiring?

      Yes there is one for the fuel pump, that is near the fuel pump and grounds to the frame.

    Great video, I'm having trouble with my 90 silverado I put another used engine supposed to be good, cause first engine got messed up and now when I tried key it only cranks, don't hear the fuel pump. I think I put every single sensor right everything looks good but won't start, I'll see when I come back from out of town and do what you did. I'm kind of lost on those grounds near the water outlet and on ac compressor on mine. Help

      @lastofthegoods OK. Thanks. Haven't figured mine out yet. Got fire. Everything is grounded. New sensors, etc. Just can't get fire to my fuel pump. Next move is a hot wire to my fuel pump plug from the junction box under the dash by the firewall. I just don't want to fry something. Lol. Thanks again.

      @@bobstewart4989 try putting some fuel with a bottle, make a small hole on cap and spray fuel onto carb,if it won't fire up having spark on plugs then it's the timing

    Basically a 4.3 vacuum line for egr and the wiring probly would help it's on a 1989 Chevy 1500

    Having this problem on 87 new relay. I checked the 2 wires at the pump the ground coming from the harness was not solid.

      On the frame where the fuel tank is there is a ground there too move that ground to a clean spot it comes from the sending unit that can make it not work at all

    I have a 1985 Blazer, I replaced the sending unit, I'm replacing the gas pump and my next thing will be the carburetor, because the Blazer running really bad 😞 sounds like fireworks coming from the carburetor, what is your take on this??

      Mine would start and run but as soon as I steeped on the gas it would cut out. New fuel pump, new injectors, new distributor cap and rotor, new tps. It ended up being the fuel relay. It would start because on these older Chevys the oil switch activated the fuel pump but only for so long

    My injectors are working and my truck will turn over and eventually it will crank but it would be really weak like sputtering I changed the fuel filter I was about to change the fuel pump but I saw this video my ground on the left side of the fuse box is corroded this could be my problem too right

      @@sosakiing4598 man that sucks.. but to check your distributor cap and rotor, you have to unscrew the 2 screws holding it down im not sure the socket size but if they arent striped or too rusted you can probably use a philips screw driver. just pull it off and look inside and see if its clean or corroded or wet. if it is you can clean it with some sand paper temporarily or replace it for like 30 bucks

    Thanks for all your videos. So I have an 87 Chevy Silverado and I can drive it for 20 , 30 miles or more and no issues, but if I shut it off it won't start until it cools off. Then it starts right up. I also noticed that I can't hear the fuel pump after I turn it off . Once, the engine cools off I am able to hear the fuel pump priming the system . Any idea.

      Yes it ended up being the fuel pump. It threw me off because the fuel pump had been replaced 5 or 6 months ago. Also, I don't remember the fuel psi that it had but I remember it was within the specs . That's also another reason I was sure it wasn't the fuel pump. Someone mentioned that it might have a good psi when cold but once it would warm up it would loose psi and that it wasn't enough to overcome the heat soak after it was turned off. So I installed an Ac Delco fuel pump and now it runs great and it starts everytime. Like I said I just didn't think it was the fuel pump because it was almost new. Hope this helps someone else.

      @@CJ9494. It was a fuel pump from Autozone. It ended up using an AC Delco and solved my issues.

    I own an 88 sierra single cab long box. Motor swapped to a 94. My truck died 3 times in way home. Died in front of 2 cops. Ill check my fuel, batterey and alternator

    I got a 95 gmc my fuel injectors get constant power and ground and dump fuel through intake could throw in the rite direction

    Ok. I havent checked the relay or grounds. I went ahead and replaced the pump and strainer. Turn over, no start. Pump is running though. No fuel getting to the tbi. 1988 gmc 1500.

    My fuel pump is humming im getting fuel behind the tbi but my injectors aren’t spraying i checked all my fuses all good i do have my ground to my battery i just dont have the little ground connected anywhere can that be my problem?

    I’ve got a 1993 TBI Chevy K1500 it cranks and fires up but after a couple seconds it dies. I can get it to stay running but it doesn’t run well. I’ve replaced the fuel filter, air idle control, throttle body, map sensor, engine coolant temp sensor, cap and rotor, ignition coil and ignition module, egr valve and egr solenoid. And it still is doing the same thing. Any guesses?

    Great video! My truck will crank all day and not start. Already checked all the fuses and the relay. In the process of removing the tank on my 1990 K1500 Silverado. I get 12.5 volts at the relay but only 5.5 volts at the pump. Been on Google for hours and can't find anything about the correct voltage at the fuel pump. I'm guessing it should be 12 volts. The tank has a bad leak so needs replaced anyway. Going to replace the fuel pump and pickup assembly while its out. Any insight would be appreciated.

      Voltage Drop due to high resistance .
      Check the voltage before and after each connection .
      With circuit on , also should he zero volts on the ground wire ,
      voltage = Poor ground

      @@KJ7SIR ended up replacing the fuel pump. Fires right up now. I tapped the old fuel pump with a plastic hammer and it started working. Figure it froze up from sitting in an empty tank for 2 years.

    I’ve cleaned a couple of grounds and new fuel pump relay. Going to clean those two you showed us tomorrow. I have a multimeter but don’t know shit about it please tell me how I check that orange wire for power

      Place the black probe on a known Ground and the red probe on the orange pin. Not sure but it should read about 12 volts. Reference the Haynes Book or other wiring diagrams for reference.

    I've got an 89 Blazer 5.7 with tbi. New fuel pump, filter, injectors twice!, rebuilt pressure regulator, new Idle air control sensor, map sensor, throttle position sensor and new ECM! The grounds all look ok. It is still running way to rich at idle... It was running fine and all of a sudden started running like hell. I thought it was water in the fuel because the filter was full of water. I dropped the tank again! Drained all the fuel and water and ran acetone through the tank to help evaporate any water before putting it back in. I'm so frustrated and tired of throwing money at the problem

      Update! I pulled the entire throttle body from the intake to inspect. Also need to mention the truck sat for 6-8 years. Mud Daubers had completely filled the cavity for the idle air control sensor and a couple other ports. I also found the plastic gasket on the fuel return nipple had been crushed and was wedged folded over inside the throttle body..
      Putting it back together in a few minutes

      Nope still running rich at idle. It idled for about 10 minutes. I shut it off and restart won't idle at all

      Testing the orange wire itself, if its a power wire, just grab a test light. It will light up. The relay usually has a schematic on the top side, showing you which way it trips. After that you can probe it to see if it clicks, or grab a voltmeter and test for continuity. If that checks out i would definitely probe afterwards to see if its working.

    I changed my pump. All fuses and the relay are good. No fuel coming out of the injectors. The day the pump went out the injectors were spraying fuel out. Replaced the pump now no fuel?

      I have a similar situation - new pump, new filter, van will turn over if you spray starting fluid in TBI but won't stay on, I can here the pump prime when I turn the key... did you figure it out?

      @@559Obsalex yeah all the grounds need to be connected... the TBI unit is electrically powered and needs that power source. If the ground isn't connected then it can't spray the fuel into the bowl. You can check your TBI unit with a 9 volt battery... probably just look it up on TH-cam... its simple but hard to describe in text

      Check your fuel pressure, must T in at the fuel filter on the frame rail.th-cam.com/video/AywmcfDlH3E/w-d-xo.html
      Disconnect the injectors & fit a noid light into the connector to check for harness integrity and that you're getting a signal from your ECM Ensure the fuel pressure regulator right behind the injectors is not leaking.

      Check grounds as in take them off clean them make damn sure it has good connection bc if the ground I'm showing you in the video has bad connection then ur fuel pump will not work

      @@butchdoster329 how did it go? I'm having some of the same problems. Have a phantom voltage of 12.3 volts on pin 30. No other voltage on any other points on the pigtail. Checked the ground pin a had good light on the continuity tester.

    Have power on orange wire have power on middle plug at fire wall for 15 sec. Pump may run for weeks then not run for weeks no rhyme or reason for it to stop or start pump is 3 yrs old

    I have a 1990 Chevy and it turns on fine. But when you put in reverse or stop or come to a stop while driving it idles down and sometimes turns off. Any suggestions? We’ve replaced the fuel pump as well already.

      I have the same problem but it’s every stop it dies. And then fires right back up and head to the next stop sign and start it back up. Still looking for the problem

    I need help please! I cant figure out on my 1995 K1500 suburban tbi My truck suddenly won't let me go faster than 35mph When I finally made it home When I parked it my truck aggressively shakes and die Every time I start it. It has a full tune up also rebuilt throttle body/ new egr/ no vacuum leaks an my pump does prime I just can't figure it out what's wrong, I know my timing is perfectly fine I'm so Confuse.. any ideas you may know?

      If the temp sensor is bad the computer keeps running rich and can burn out the catalytic converter and clog it or muffler up. Easy check is if it’s running is much exhaust flowing out.

      Take all the bolts off your bed. Then put center on blocks on both sides. Slide 2x6 or 3x4s under bed. Jack up bed, add blocks as you get higher. Push truck out from underneath the bed. Afyet fixing push truck back under bed and let down slowly. If you can't physically move truck, use riding lawnmower

      There's no check valve to test for fuel pressure unless u install an aftermarket one, wanna know how to check for a bad fuel pump.... get a can of starting fluid and spray in the throttle body

      @@rednecklife55 my issue is that i think its going bad im running like crap, and its intermittent itll run great one day and terrible the next few days sputtering stalling, erratic idle, no power until WOT. but when i unplug my new MAP sensor VAC it runs good,read that it could be fuel pump going out, low pressure. possibly. you can use a pressure tester and plumb it in in place of the fuel filter. getting ready to do that now myself

      Usually if its a fuel pump they either get hard to start bc of low pressure or dont start at all, iv personally never heard of a fuel pump running good one day then the next running bad, I think yoy need to look closer into that sensor, you might have a throttle body gasket bad or need a new sensor even tho that one is new they could still be bad

      @@rednecklife55 Thanks for the reply! i had already changed most of my sensors mostly because the CEL had a code for them and when all those were gone after a few days the problem came back. but i changed the fuel pump yesterday and problem is gone. the lines were very rusted but not leaking. i dropped the tank and nearly just broke the Lines off the sending unit. I'm sure i had a pretty bad vacuum leak or something. on another note i did already rebuild the TBI in the process and before that when i bought the truck i did plugs cap and rotor and wires. but she runs good now!
