I was thinking, that’s how we did stencils when I was a kid. Of course stencils back then were the military-looking lettering. Sometimes we’d fill them in with black markers-about the only markers around then. But we would use the outlined letters too. I vaguely remember trying to make some kind of stencils on my own. Many of them were paper, rather like manilla folders or a darker, rougher paper. And many times spray paint was used so they were quite interesting to look at. What’s funny is, having that in my past, it never dawned on me to trace them. Of course, I have very few stencils and maybe two gel pens? Not even sure about that. I will be looking!! I wonder about outlined stencil shapes on paper then tea or coffee dying them. Hmmm. ❤ thanks for reminding and expanding my ideas in these! Pretty stencil and effects!

I actually have a few things now to make my own stencils. I’ve watched some videos on how to do it. Hope it works bc stencils are pretty expensive.

Hey Jenn, you are so spot on! this is how I done it too, I still have those military letter stencils lol! I would probably tea dye the paper first, then draw on top, another lady suggested a gold pen colour, im looking forward to trying this one too. 3 seconds in and I'd already seen something new and useful (a use for wide washi tape I ended up with), and your video just kept on and on with more great ideas. I look forward to binge watching all your videos as I'm able.
I'm not really a journal person, but I'm more of one now than before I watched this video. 😊
I've been trying to get a prayer journal underway for weeks, and it's been pretty much nothing but odd challenges, interruptions, and... life... so far. 😞
The very least of it is that most of the washi tape rolls I got don't stick well to anything other than washi tape, and the double sided adhesive roll I bought is the wrong width (too wide for the narrow tape, too narrow for the wider tape).
It is very beautiful! Actually, that is how we used stencils when I was a kid eons ago! That’s the only thing that I thought they were good for 🙃until I started watching yt. Back then they were only wide enough for the pen to fit inside. The modern ones are so much more versatile! Thank you for the tips and suggestions! I had actually forgotten about using them like that! Love it! So beautiful!!

For those folks with electronic cutting machines or are good with a craft knife, you can purchase sheets of clear stencil film, Mylar stencil sheets, or heavyweight card stock to create your own reusable stencils.

@@JunkJournalideasLove my Cricut and yes takes some getting use to! I love I can make my own stencils for specialty projects or use it to fussy cut digitals (I hate fussy cutting). I am too awkward and dangerous with a craft knife.

What is a junk journal and what is it used for?
hi Brenda, it's a handmade book, embellished to the hilt! or kept simple, usually made from tea dyed papers and book pages. They are made for 2 types of people, those who like to journal (keep a diary) and those who like to glue all types of mementoes in them and just like to paper craft, it's a wonderful hobby. ✨🥰🦋 hugs Donna
What part is the "new technique"? Not to be rude, but this how stencils have been used for a very long time.
oh I dont take this as being rude. Stencils for junk journaling are normally used with distress ink, texture paste and paints, not usually traced with a gel pen directly onto journal pages, so for many it's a new technique 🙏♥︎♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
