@@sagivn.s2237 agreed, I would say second best is Denner and LaRocque. Andy can not only play with incredible speed he also makes it sound melodic and beautiful. Definitely an incredible achievement on his part. Listen to any solo on the Eye album to hear his beautiful sonic melodic poetry. Andy is in a class of his own. Father Picard is by far one of his best solos as well as on of my all time favorite., The nuances of emotion he conveys in those bends are still to this day beyond human comprehension. When I was younger I made a tape of just Andy's solos, I was completely obsessed with his sound and melodic direction. I would love to hear your opinion Niko 144.
@@wulff115 Andy is easily one of the greats, in my opinion. No knock on Denner or Shermann either, I just believe Andy exists in a realm of musicians who have mastered their craft. Besides the things you've already mentioned - speed & his hold over melodic and beautiful sounding pieces, Andy has always played/wrote pieces that best suited the music. There's never any unnecessary flash or bravado, which is amazing to think about considering the sounds he's crafted.
Holy fucking shit!!! Wore those two albums out in '83-'84...my ex used to get up screaming at me when I would come in late after a night at the Country Club all fucked up and blast this shit, so funny!! Epic Northern Euro metal, stands up so well...
That riff was carried over from their 1981 days. Songs like Doomed By The Living Dead, Return Of The Vampire, A Corpse Without A Soul; they all originated from that era.
Man that brings me way back. I've always felt Hank was the heart and Michael was the soul of Mercyful Fate. That sound and European tone captured me as a teenager.
I want another Mercyful Fate album. King said Mercyful Fate wasn't finished in his book. And in yours? Please, just come back together and give us another "Melissa", another "In the Shadows", or another "Don't Break the Oath". We miss all of you together
Dangerous Meeting, for me, is one of the best guitar riffing and solos ever constructed. So kick ass. It never gets old and when I learned it on guitar it was TOO fun to play Lol Still is and never wont be. More cranked up the better. Thanks you guys so much for your contribution to music through Mercyful Fate
Thank you for this guys. My older brother was serving in the Navy and was in the Mediterranean when he stumbled across this album while in port. He sent it to me and when I first heard it it scared the shit out me. I was hooked ever since...my favorite album ever.
I've said it before and I will say it again; SO great. What a team! The guitar tone here is beyond excellent, possibly better than on record (if such a thing is possible). But what impresses most is the synergy between Michael and Hank; there are few duos in the musical world that work so well together as these two gentlemen.
I bought this album in 1985 when I was 16 years old. My mother found the lyrics to Welcome Princess of Hell written down and flipped out a lil. But this album was such a big deal for me and Im very thankful to see this video
this is the best thing ive ever seen on youtube, great feeling to see you guys actually play, im too young to have been there in the early days of mercyful fate
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, Hank Shermann and Michael Denner. Best guitar duo’s in the world. While it has been too difficult and expensive to find a Boss SP1, I have been able to duplicate the effect with a Q filter as I have a couple presets I made on my Line 6 HX Effects that get pretty close to the iconic tones of this duo. Some of my favorite songs to play on guitar. That midrange bite and searing solo sound. Of course the writing is stellar and what really makes the songs but the two of you had such great distinctive guitar sounds that set you both apart and easily recognizable. This was some real thought was put into song writing with many parts to songs and really complimenting each other playing. I love revisiting this video to see how you actually played the songs vs how I interpreted it by listening by ear and trying to reproduce the parts.
I was a teenager when this album was released, I bought it on vinyl and still have it today. I believe it to be one of, if not the, heaviest album of the 80's (Melissa was pretty damn good as well). Rock on guys \m/ \m/
I always said that if I had to hear just one song for the rest of my life that it would be the oath, thank you for such an amazing piece of music. I will kiss the goat.
Great seeing these guys jamming together. The dynamic duo of guitars, 2 of my biggest influences and 2 of the reasons I kept persevering in my guitar playing.
I stood in line at Tower Records when this album first came out in Las Vegas and still listen to this and Melissa all the time. My best Friend has the Oath tattooed on his chest it's so awesome.
I heard this in Brazil soon after it was released as I had a friend that had just come from France. I was amazed and I am still! To me this is the best album ever. Congratulations, well done
Me an one of my friends met Kirk Hammet at a small club in late 84 . He was wearing walkman. My friend asked him "What are you listening to". He said Don't break the oath. We went out an bought it the next day.
There was a certain guitarist who was hanging out with the flamboyant crowd and started showing up at shows in pink jogging suits. ,with a new haircut and that's all good if you were in a new wave band or boy.george or something but not so much for an up and coming Scandinavian Black Metal band. King tried to sit him down and let him know that that's not acceptable image for the band and certainly not Mercyful Fate , well he continued on with the new friends and new image and shortly thereafter King Diamond the band was born...
You guys are awesome, this songs made part of my life, i remember when i was a young metalhead, listening to this album, it was one of the first heavy metal albuns i've ever heard. i still love this masterpiece, thanks a lot for creating this awesome songs on mercyful fate, Cheers from Brazil my friends, i hope to see you guys someday! total respect!
Esses caras são lendas mano eu também espero ver eles algum dia, seria do caralho se os caras lançassem esse álbum remasterizado tocando desse jeito, me deu até arrepio escutando essas músicas de tão magníficas que são!
I was lucky enough to see their 1st show in the U.S. in Portland Or. I was 18 and I had never heard or seen anything from them, a friend said I had to go to the show that night and let me tell u it was so much to try and take in for the 1st time all at once and live no less!! I'll forget my name before I forget that show!! Also seen Metallica on the Ride the Lightening tour there and Raven All for One tour! Think I paid like $8 or $10 a ticket if that much. The Stary nite night club, it used to be a church before they turned into a club and all 3 of those shows I knew as I was seeing that I was seeing something historic!! Words cant even begin to describe it!!!
I always liked to hear that album live since i listened for the first time in summer 1985, here in México City, 29 years waiting.... A World tour for the 30 anniversary of Don't break the Oath would be amazing, because is my favorite recording from Mercyful Fate. Thanks for sharing.
Fucking living legends right here!!! These two guys and the riffs they wrote are will forever be the cream of the crop of heavy metal. My 43year old brother introduced this album to me and my 36 year old brother when I was in 2nd grade and I'm 33, We've been obsessed ever since. I'm the only one out of the brothers that doesn't have this album cover tattooed on me yet....soon. I wonder if these two gentleman know how fucking iconic they are....well done.a MASTERPIECE
you guys and Andy LaRocque are the reason I started playing guitar 13 years ago in a small town in country Brasil, just think you should know that! Never thought I would see this, AWESOME.
Wow, Blown away. You guys rock. Love both of you guys, Wish Mercyful Fate would get back together. I am a younger fan, You guys me the world to me, Both of you guys made me stick with guitar.
One more thing, Sherman and Denner is the greatest guitar duo the world has ever known thanks guys
i couldnt say it better myself, such synchronicty is unprecedanted and will probably never be seen agian in todays fuc*ed society..

The absolute best.
And if not them, Pete and Andy are right behind 'em.
Super cool! Melissa and don't break the oath, two the best metal albums of all time.
More bad ass riffs in one song, than most bands have on a whole album!!!
Most criativity than on some entire carrers
One of the best metal albums of all times
not just metal but one of the best albums period
Melissa and Don’t Break The Oath are both part of my top ten all time Metal albums. You guys are legends! Thanks for all the great music!
ABSO-FREAKIN'-LUTELY!! 🤘👍
Don't Break the Oath was the first Mercyful Fate album I bought. I was obsessed with this band and King Diamond. I wish they never would've broken up.
These two can do some serious damage!
I've watched thousands of guitarists and listened to many many songs but this duo is insane.
Human beings will never come up with the right words to give this album the credit it deserves. It is otherworldly.
Desacration of Souls, Hanks opening riff, pure EVILLLL 🤘🤘🤘

DESECRATION OF SOULS - scariest riff ever \m/
That riff was carried over from their 1981 days. Songs like Doomed By The Living Dead, Return Of The Vampire, A Corpse Without A Soul; they all originated from that era.
Totally! the entire album is full of those graveyard riffs, this album really recreates the real thing of the satanic music as we kwnow it
INSANELY good riff, one my top 10 favourites
I put this on my playlist... It is definitely worth listening, especially if you are a fan of King Diamond.

We all do!!!!
TheTwo greatest of all time..
The second part of the Desecration of Souls solo is simply orgasmic
and Demonic at the same time.

Totally
🤘🙂 most definitely. desecration of Souls as well for me .
@@vincentrobinson9325 And it's still true!
Originally titled “The Kiss?”
These guys are amazing live.
Riffs and tempo changes in one song more than another band's full album. Off the charts creativity from this dynamic duo.
Untouchable band. Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Mercyful Fate. Unholy trinity, the standard that everyone else is compared to.
One of my favorite albums ever
Hank and Mike have no clue what a huge impact , how they inspired, influenced my guitar playing since back then but my neighbors always do.
Thank you for this guys. My older brother was serving in the Navy and was in the Mediterranean when he stumbled across this album while in port. He sent it to me and when I first heard it it scared the shit out me. I was hooked ever since...my favorite album ever.
Que dupla histórica de guitarristas! Lamentável que não estejam juntos na atual reunião da banda!

I have goosebumps listening to these masters
Thank you Mr Shermann and Mr Denner. Such an influential guitar duo and album. Brought a tear to my eye. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
So good to see Michael and Hank working together again!!!

This is awesome album.
Thanks youtube, thank you guys for posting this. Epic feels like so bland a word for this moment.
Man, these Riffs are hypnotic, just like the album. Bought the Oath on vinyl In 85, still play it loud!!
Merciful fate is greater on vinyl for some reason.
@@brpadington Agree!
