  • How to fix P0089 Code: Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance
A P0089 code is set when the computer (ECM/PCM) detects the fuel pressure is not correct.
The fuel pressure regulator, along with the fuel pump, is responsible for maintaining fuel pressure.
A P0089 code is commonly caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator failure, bad fuel pump, or bad fuel pressure sensor.
Many modern vehicles have two fuel pumps: a low-pressure fuel pump (LPFP) in the gas tank and a high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) bolted to the engine.
If there are other error codes for a bad oxygen sensor or bad fuel injector, be sure to do more tests, as they are known to set a P0089 code on some engines.
Possible Causes of a P0089 Code:
Blockage (Clogged Fuel Filter or Restricted fuel lines)
Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (Pressure Control Valve)
    Bad Fuel Pump
    Bad Fuel Pressure Sensor

2015 Malibu P0089. Runs fine in city or hwy, but getting off hwy it stalls and takes time to sit before it will start again. How should I diagnose which of these issues is causing the fault? Thank you!
