For this job, you can take the headset to your local paint/weld/bodywork shop and they will tack it for a fiver or a bottle of IPA. There is no propper alternative here for a decent weld. IMO
I feel your pain mate. There are 4 or five different rod lengths and so many different aftermarket parts not fit for purpose. It can be a right ball ache on some models. 🙈

Epoxy resin is what I use
I wish this was a GP headset you were working on! As easy as it should be I’ve wasted all day trying to understand why I can’t fit the rods etc
