Weather is one of the most important things to have in mind. I LOVE woody, leather and tobacco fragrances, but I live in the Caribbean. I wasn't a big fan of citrus fragrances until I met Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche. What a masterpiece.
I wore 2-3 sprays of Black Orchid edp in my hair (on my fringe) for a private tuition class on day 1 after getting it, because, what could go wrong, right? Wrong. It was suffocating! And I couldn't wash it off, so by the end of the class, I had developed a headache. I have not been able to appreciate or use Black Orchid since then, and have given the nearly full bottle to a friend's husband who appreciates fragrances. This vid was fun and eye-opening. Thanks, Monika!
Great advice ! Early in my fragrance journey, I had the beginnings of a cold and didn't realize it. I applied a couple of sprays of Black Orchid, but my nose told me that I should spray more, so I added 4 more sprays and went out for the day. Well soon after arriving at my destination, a female friend walked up to me and said " you stink " ! I was embarrassed and finally figured out that I was coming down with a cold and had lost my sense of smell. Tooo funny . . . but the incident was never forgotten ! Thanks for sharing . . .
My big mistake once was that i listened to the lady that selling CHANEL fragrances. At that time i just wanted to buy my third bottle of Bleu de Chanel, and the lady said take the new one (EDP) it’s long lasting and the performance is better and it’s the same fragrance... It was the last time that i heard a fragrance seller.
She is not bad but lacks certain knowledge not to bash on her because the editing i like :) but her collection is small and knowledge is limited but with time all will be good i guess
The untested purchase (some use the phrase “blind buy” which I try not to use) is a common one, linked to this is being carried away by hype and trends. A related issue is the importance of considering what your partner likes and dislikes. Several frags cause headaches for my wife, so being mindful of the impact of frags in the home as well as workplace is important. Home space friendly is as important as workplace friendly!
I gave my favorite fragance (Givenchy Gentlemen EDP) to my brother John just for testing, and I told him not to spray too much because it is a strong fragance. He ignored my advise and he sprayed arount 12 sprays in the morning before going to work. When he came back to home after work, he told me: "Hey! the people didn't like that fragance, I just arrived at my work, I was in the Elevator with a guy, and the guy covered his nose because of the strong smell"....... and I told him: "I told you! (not to spray so much!)."
I used to work on a Lancome counter and one of the department managers would come every morning to drench herself in Miracle with something along the lines of that guy's 45 sprays, and it made me hate that fragrance so much because I could literally taste it for the next 30 minutes!
Wearing fragrances that smells terrible when you sweat, & just wearing fragrances anytime of the day, like they might have just fresh fragrance all day even in the evening, or sweet fragrance all year even through the hottest day🇵🇭
A year ago I went to my Orthodontist appointment. I left work early stopped at home because it was on the way. Took a quick shower, brushed and flossed. Applied a couple of sprays of Bentley for Men Intense. The Dental Assistant asked me what I was wearing. I told her and she said it was impressive. I wondered if that was good or bad. As I was leaving and making an appointment with the Receptionist, the Dental Assistant came to the desk and said "He's wearing Bentley and he wants everyone to know." I definitely got that hint.😞
My common problem with fragrances: I choke people out during the first hour and then no one can smell me again. (no matter the fragrance or how many sprays I use)
Another mistake : if longevity really matters to you, make sure it is there. Test the product on your skin all day long before you buy the fragrance. Nowadays high brands seem to water down their formula.
I respectfully disagree. I have sprayed 4711, Mugler Cologne, and a few others at least 10 times and they are gone in an hour. D & G The One will last maybe two hours. My skin is a sponge, but they're weak. They smell good but they're weak.
For me is it the other way around. I hardy never got any reactions/compliments because I was doing the 3-5 sprays routine. With heavy projection (niche) fragrances that is ok. But many other designer won't get noticed at all until people come really close to you and how many times does that happen? So with some weak projecting Fragrances Like Guerlain L'Homme Ideal or D&G The One I go as much as 15 sprays. I also layer some fragrances with Iso E Super or Ambroxan to push the projection and performance. Since then, I got quite a lot of compliments not only from friends but strangers too. And who doesn't like getting compliments? ;)
@@caizey I would say it depends. Even niche frags aren't all beats most even though they cost 5 times as much. But then there are cheapies like OudTouch by Franck Olivier which project like crazy and last for ages.

I love Eau dIssey opening but absolutely hate the dry down. Learnt my lesson.
Layering. It's trendy, but it can easily go wrong. That's an often mistake I've noticed.

Ahh, they always do that since they get more commission from selling EDP but it’s a great fragrance nonetheless 😊
oh no XD
I listened to a seller as well and bought Blue de Chanel Parfum; it lasts as long as a fart. Total waste of money.
Hands down she is the best fragrance reviewer on TH-cam

I used to blind-buy perfumes based on the pretty or unique bottles, then regretted later on since the scents didn't suit me at all 🤦🏻♀️🥴😅
I had to rewind the video to make sure I heard you say “45 sprays.” That’s insane!

Haha, so bad. Nobody needs that many sprays 😂
You are correct! This are very frecuently mistakes!
Thanks Monika! Great advice.

Thx a lot sweety.. Me also I have history with invectus.. It doesn't match my skin chemistry 😄
Monika, I had a think :) what about a top 5 short and long haul travel fragrances maybe?

@@shaunfebruary8870 Lesson learned. I never paid attention to how strong it was, until that day.

Maybe you can use another fragrance, like not so beastly projecting but long lasting
Try moisturising where you spray mate, I moisturise my hands and neck / ears and it works very well

Aventus 2 spray , Bleu de Chanel edt 2-4 sprays , Bleu de Chanel Parfum 2 sprays 🤓
Where do you place your two sprays?
Aventus guy with 45 sprays: "...I didn't know who he wanted to kill that day" together with your typical lovely smile... Thanks for the laugh!
He must burn through a 100ml bottle of Aventus in under one month if this is his usual spray routine.

10 sprays is still a big mistake, even with milder fragrances.

With 5 sprays max with many frags people won't smell you at all after the first 30 minutes or so.

45 sprays of Aventus?
... I'm surprised his boxers didn't make a hole in the ground!
Haha
My god if you need 10 sprays of any perfume it's either so weak that you don't needto even buy it, or your nose is totally broken.
45 sprays = a slow and annoying death by scent
