    Excellent video Mattias. I've been a Graphic Designer for about 30 years and I agree with everything you said. I would say that using a digital pen, once a person gets past the learning curve will quickly realize the device itself is more accurate in everything. Pen point accurate. And naturally comfortable. I'll admit I left the tablet for awhile and in recent times, suffered tennis elbow and other health problems such as tension headaches. Your video made me pull my old Wacom out today and I smiled remembering the benefits of it. I went ahead and bought the one you have today because mine is dated. So I just wanted to say thanks for making this video.

      You are welcome Todd. 😄🥁 Happy to inspire to a comfortable workspace! ☕️ I’m gonna put an affiliate link to my device tomorrow if more people wanna check out a wacom for their work.

    I've been getting on well with an mx master 2. I think its the newer S version with almost silent clicks. It has been handy for side scrolling horizontal timelines in maschine 2.0 etc and I enjoy the option to make the vertical scrolling wheel spin freely, or click, depending on whether i want to fly through larger folder directories, or systematically go through one at a time. The stop-clicks provide tactile feedback and prevent you losing your position if you're multitasking.
    I didn't think it was raising my hand and wrist much, but when I try a regular mouse now, I notice there's a bigger difference than I realised.
    I have to say though, your method makes sense and you have a constant and relaxed full range of motion between use too because you're possibly more likely to lift a comparitively lightweight pen higher than a mouse, and potentially break often from holding a bad position against a desk for more than a few seconds at a time.

    Yes, I've been wanting to ask you for a long time, Mattias, how comfortable you are with the Wacom graphics tablet! You are a technologically advanced person, I like the way you explain how to use devices and why they are convenient for certain tasks!

      Yeah also a good option. 🎉 But it does not handle a pen, the Wacom Intous Pro give you more possibilities and ergonomic variation.

    A while ago I was considering to work with a tablet but with its associated pen it will not be very practical for me as I go from my computer to my real keyboard in order to play music. Working with a pen will add an additional gesture which is to put down the pen in order to play music on the keyboard and grab it again to work on the computer. Today I use the Mac standard mouse for precise editing and a Mac trackpad for the less precise works.

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah it might be so. In my work the actual keyboard playing is like 10% of the work and 90% is audio / midi editing, mixing etc so it’s much more editing than it is playing. You can see in many of my videos I don’t even put down the pen to play most melodies and phrases. But for elaborate piano playing and practise I do of course put down the pen. We are all different though and have different needs and requirements. Make your work environment comfy for your situation. 👌😃☕️

      @@MattiasHolmgren BTW I've noticed that Paul Thomson uses a tablet since few months. And I guess he spends quite some times to actualy play on a keyboard. But I suppose he plays better than me (actulay I'm sure...) and doesn't spend his time to edit his work on the piano roll like I do 😁

    how do you drag and select multiple clips in Bitwig with a pen? It switches to draw mode on pen press.

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pen to touch surface (OUTSIDE any clips) and drag your selection.
      Or shift + press the individual clips you want to select.

    Nice, Mattias. Now you have me looking into this. My ulnar nerve got damaged in my right elbow a few years back and had surgery in my right arm, But that did not help. I've lost almost all the feeling in the right half of my right hand. I find that playing keys helps a bit. Anyhow, I'll check it out. Might have to look for something similar as ~$300 is a bit much (spent too much on synth plugins haha!). Anyway, the benefits you point out make sense. My wife has been using one for years now and loves it.

      @MattiasHolmgren  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I always use the medium (standard) models since back in 2004 when I started with the Wacom Intous 3. I think it was the first model rhat came out which also had extra buttons on the actual tablet. No multi touch back then though. Best ergonomic tool IMo!

    Great topic Mattias. Im curious, did you ever try out a trackball before ending up with the wacom? Recently got a wacom myself and am finding it hard to get the click pressure/tapping right. I am accidentally clicking everyting all the time even though I changed the pressure to max firmness. Any tips and tricks? The hovering over mouse moving works only in the pen mode... and in pen mode you can adjust the speed in the settings. Then when you go into "mouse mode" the hovering over mouse moving does not work.

    Yeah as people who also works in Design , pen tablet indeed really give us more relax experiences . Combining with mini key as shortcut helper, we can literally can do everything . TBH For audio works you dont need to use expensive ones . I`m using cheap tablet called Veikk A15 pro which working fine in all DAW and vst I`ve had . It also have several button which we can assign as shortcuts. So in theory we can also working without keyboard
    Another alternative will be using laptop with touch screen and stylus , but funny enough Ableton seem more responsive with touch screen with stylus than bitwig even though they didnt have dedicated or special tool for touch screen like bitwig

    Hei, Mattias.

      I always use a medium sized tablet because it's the best size IMO. Large is...too large. ;)
      Small is absolutely too small.
      Wacom user experience in Studio One was also great if I recall correctly. (Was using Studio One for a some time a few years back).
