Thanks ! My thoughts are the hardware sounds more natural, specially on the drums. They sound more precise with more depth. The hardware sounds more 3D dimension, while the plug brings everything more in front. I found the plug more efficient on the guitars than on the drums, what is coherent with my overall impression, as they are more "in your face". But honestly, UAD made a good job with this plug that I finally bought. Cause I don't have the money for the hardware !!! Watching other videos with comparisons with the WAVES plug ( that I don't like ), the UAD is a good deal.
They are very close if you almost not compressing like in these examples, but difference is huge when you push it a little, which is the case in electronic music
The Guitars A/B was interesting because I preferred the hardware version while the Guitars were soloed, but preferred the plugin version when the Guitars were played back in the context of the mix.
Damn the plugin is damn close. Maybe the HW is a tad snappier, not sure but I would not spend almost 4k on the HW if this plugin sounds so damn close. Thanks for this man :-D
Dam ! That is real close. On the drums the UAD have clearly nailed the punch of the hardware. I feel the hardware is a little more glued and you can hear a difference on the snare verb. Also, despite people claiming plugins sound brighter, i've come to realise that for compressors the plugins are actually often darker than the hardware. I'm gonna guess it's the harmonics making a difference in the high end. I bet a little high shelf on the plugin and you're there. But overall the plugin has got it right and is useable. On the mixbus it was the reverse, the plugin sounded brighter, so i don't know what's going on !! Maybe it's the frequency response that is different. Thanks for this comparison, that was perfect ;)
I like your analysis! I think the hardware is going to respond to dynamics and frequencies slightly different depending on the material. They are so close that I’m happy to use either especially when used conservatively. I agree with you that hardware emulations can sometimes sound darker or as hear it hazy. I love UAD plugs but when using across multiple tracks there is a hazy mask that can happen. When I mix through my console and use hardware to do the sound shaping I get a much more open sound that at the same time has punch and power. Thanks for adding to the conversation!
Listened on my Neumann NDH30 headphones which give plenty of detail. To be honest I expected the difference to be huge and am surprised how extremely close they sound.
Thanks much for doing this. I think this is the best comparison yet between the hardware and software. The snare is the only piece where I really hear the depth of the hardware. The subtle differences everywhere else feel like splitting hairs. Otherwise, I do hear the difference on the whole mix. Still amazed how close it is. Really wanted the hardware to stand out more to justify getting it.
@@gonzobananas it’s definitely very close and either will get the job done. The hardware can be pushed a bit more but I rarely use it crush things. I was shocked when I did the comparison but I’ll be holding on to my hardware because I love the process of setting up groups of instruments going to different pieces. I also really like the api on EDM mastering. If I need the money down the road I’ll be ok going to the plugin

@@77advanced yes! This thing shines when it comes to electronic music.

Thanks for this great demonstration

Wow! The hardware is really so close to the plugin! Unbelievable!
Great Demo your band rocks balls!!!! Holy Holy Batman!!
Thank you!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!

It’s super close. You really have to push it to hear a difference
Hi. Mind sharing what the sample rate is for the project you used? Thanks.
96k

It's so close -- I use the UA API2500 9/10 on my drum bus for anything rock. I won't be throwing the cash at the hardware unit anytime soon.
I do the same! I use also use it on mix bus for electronic music. I agree that it’s super close.
Good song..
You just saved my wallet :D
