We seem to be progressing through our cars at the same time!
I had a mystery leak into the boot - turned out the light was loose wher it fitted the boot lid, water got in and then came out when the lid was lifted.
Pick a warm day, or gently warm these parts, they are less likely to break, but still delicate.

So how do I put it back in? The video was great to show me how to take it out. I removed it which smashed 4 of the lights. Now I have it out and the lights replaced there is no way I can put it back in!
Just slide the light assembly back in place and by pushing both sides in, it locks in place.
Thanks for your reply. There is no way I can see that it will ever slide back in with the lights attached to it. FYI - also in Australia. 92 500SL located in Tassie. Maybe only 1 of 2 R129s that I know about in the state!
@ablevid Good to hear, yes me myself in Brisbane, I have never seen a R129 on the road except my own. How did you slide it out then?
Not many on the road that’s for sure. I got mine late last year. The dealer luckily started his career with Mercedes Benz 50 years ago so is very comfortable when it comes to the mechanics! So I removed it with a bit of force and ended up smashing the bulbs while doing so! I think I will need to take out the red light bar and the casing to get it back in? I’m not very mechanically minded (my daily car is a Tesla) but managed to replace the front two hydraulic soft top actuators over the weekend after a leak started!
Easier if you remove the latch.
