  • How to Loom knit a brimless slouchy hat on a round loom. This is the Bottom-up Hat. Easy enough for beginners with step by step instructions. This hat is down upside down from the average method used when loom knitting a hat. You will start at the crown and end with the brim for a nice clean edge. Use any extra large loom. You will learn to knit the Broken Rib Stitch. Great for Men or Women which makes it perfect for charity.

      I am new also and wool ease by lion brand is fantastic yarn.
      I can’t recommend it more highly because it worked up so fast I made 2 hats in one day.
      I am totally “hooked” on loom knitting.
      I really like this channel.

    I was unable to loom knit for several years. I developed carpal tunnel. I recently had some PT and I am happy to say I am knitting and crocheting again. This was the first pattern I knitted in a little baby bennie when I picked my looms back up. It was a great pattern to just jump right back in with.

    I really like the way this instructor demonstrates how to do the stitches. I particularly like her voice tone as she talks through her method. The tone is even and calming which I need while learning how to do this. Thanks.

    I still consider myself a beginner... I have made 3 beanies with this pattern. I'm about to start my 4th! I love how easy this pattern is, it gives me a chance to perfect a hat.
    I also love that it starts bottom up. I tried doing the other version of this same rib stitch and it was a great hat except that when I tried to tighten it it just frayed the yarn on my brim. This one turns out so well.
    Thank you again for your patterns. After I do one or two more of these beanies I plan on moving onto another pattern of yours. ^_^

    Hello! Quick question-can this hat be made using #5 yarn? I’m making it for my brother to wear under his snowmobile helmet and wouldn’t want it too thick. Also less rows knitted if I don’t want it slouchy correct? Don’t think my brother would want it slouchy 😊 also he has a small head so could this be knit on a 36 peg loom? That was more than one question, sorry lol - thank you in advance - I am learning a lot from your videos and I am happy with that 😊❤️

Lol Now I have 2 hats to make scarves for. I have made a couple pair of your fingerless gloves. I might make some to match. Would the look okay with #5 yarn? Or do you think they would look too
      big? . Take care, jlee x

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just keep in mind that when you use heavier weight yarn the project is basically tighter or smaller depending on the stitch - in the case of the gloves (rib stitch) the yarn will make them bulkier and so tighter but only by a bit so it should still work out fine.

    Love this one. Just made it with a 6 super slouchy yarn. I had a hard time with the draw string pull not wanting to close up. I'm still learning how the different yarns affect the outcome. I just ended up stitching it around then across to close the hole. Still looks nice but am I just not being patient enough and should work it more to close the hole? smh Thank you :0)

    Great teacher!! 👌🏼I have a VERY big head (bigger than men’s, even) & love wearing toques but rarely find any that don’t feel too constrictive. Any tips (beyond using that biggest loom etc from video) for making an even bigger hat or looser fit. ie: maybe a certain yarn type/size or type of stitch or style, that may make looser. I’m brand new to this-ultimate beginner, btw. 😊

    Love your videos and want to try this hat. I’ve made a few hats with brims with just a knit stitch and I have never used those markers. Are they small rubber bands?

    Hi Denise
    I like this pattern. I've been really busy this summer, working in my church, so I haven't been doing any crafts. Things have finally settle down, what a nice pattern to start back loom knitting. I have one question. When you're working with two strands of yarn as one, how do you keep the yarn from twisting? I watched the video several time but my yarn keeps twisting.

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There seems to be no perfect solution but you can try to keep the two sources in separate containers and close to your knitting. You can also try a yarn bra amzn.to/2PLqy7n

    Beginner here and want to double check - your cast on first row is the drawstring for the top of the hat? Once you take the hat off I can't tell which is which. Other tutorials do the opposite. Thanks.

    Can this stitch be done in a flat panel? I'm looking for something for a baby blanket that I won't need a border for so I'm hoping this doesn't curl.

    Hello, I really love all your videos. You are the best! Can I use two strands of yarn with this pattern? This hat is very pretty 🦋. Thank you so much for all that you do for us. Your creativity is amazing. God bless you my friend.

    Love this tutorial, makes the design easy to follow as a beginner.
    I’ve started the hat and I’m using a 200g yarn but I am struggling with the knit stitches and pulling them over the peg as it is so tight. Is the yarn too thick/heavy?

      It shouldn't be unless you're using a small gauge loom - here is video that might be helpful th-cam.com/video/3uzwkBTOqVQ/w-d-xo.html

    I like how you teach! Iknow this is an older video, could you update the supply information? What diameter / number of pegs loom did you use? Also, what yard is that?

  • @lisalackey1550

    To confirm, the first and last stitch are always ewrap? I’m using a 41 peg loom like in the video, but am wondering how the pattern will repeat properly if the first and last stitch are always the same.

  • @BecBec1967

    Hi, Denise question for this project: I have a 40 peg loom. How do I wrap every other peg so it'll knit correctly?

    • @BecBec1967
      @BecBec1967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Per your suggestion to "not stress" about using a 40 peg post, I only Ribbited cast on once, before I figured out how to. I have trouble keeping count, but am attempting to use my row counter. I'm using 3 Bernat velvet such a silky soft combination. Thank you for such specific, detailed directions.

    Just made this for a friend on the biggest loom I had. He has a big head but he says it is too tight. Any ideas on how I can make the bottom of the hat looser?

    Quick question if I make this hat for an adult will this be to big of a hat for the head since it'll be done on the 41 peg loom? Would i have to change the cast on to get a tighter fit?

      I have made this hat and I like it because if you want you can turn it up to make a double thickness brim or leave it down for a longer slouchy look. Hope this helps.

      Will it be too big on the 41 peg or w4ill the 36 peg be too small for adult size hat
