A musician and tutor who is pitch perfect and so in tune with what is needed to teach a complicated piece of software and make it so understandable. Melodyne, in your case, not needed! Thanks.
this is awesome. I learned so much from your series to better use Melodyne which is a great tool but there are so many subtleties. Thank you for the illumination!
This series of videos by Rich Crescenti are ESSENTIAL Melodyne tutorials. Watch them all and you'll learn really essential stuff, as well as tricks you never thought of!
Not fair!! You're showing everyone my tricks. It's OK though, you've showed me several I didn't know about as well. Seriously, you have a great style and I am glad to know about all your videos. Only three in and I already love them. Great work.
Great video series. Love my Melodyne Studio! This comes right when I was speculating, during a walk, about the possibility of applying this to some nice free strings sample libraries that have “long” notes, but not “legato” notes. What do you think, Celemony? I still have to try this, of course
Hey Mary, if you experience these kind of artefacts, then very likely this isn’t a clean and dry recording. Any room ambience or mic spill might introduce artefacts in the melodic algorithm. Also, doublecheck Melodyne’s analysis in Note Assignment Mode before you start editing, and correct it if needed. Hope this helps.
At 2:54 you move a vocal note 3 semitones and it sounds fine. Why, when I move a vocal note much at all, do I seem to get artifacts so much of the time? Adjusting transitions and formants only seem to make it worse. I appreciate your videos, but apparently I'm missing something. I am also finding that every time I switch between Edit Mode and Note Assignment Mode I lose my Undo Queue, which is really stunting my workflow. Melodyne Studio 5.4.1.004
When I right-click on a sustaining note with vibrato and point to "Note Separation Tool," the option to "Separate Notes as Trills" is grayed. I'm using the Studio 5 version. What is the trick to making this feature work?
Is there a rule of thumb for adjusting the formant? (for example if a note is adjusted X amount of semitones, then adjust the formant X amount of semitones.)
In ARA, I don't have gold lines and the cursor doesn't change like you're demonstrating in this video. Also, in ARA, the TIME feature does nothing. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or are those features not implemented in ARA as of yet?
Why not trying to fix it with the help of Melodyne? If you decide to re-sing it, then Melodyne needs to analyze the vocals again. If you have further questions, please contact our Tech Support team, they will be happy to help: www.celemony.com/support
When I drag the formant bar in a note up or down, the gold line that represents transition between notes does not appear. I'm using the Studio 5 version. I see that it works for Rich. Can someone lend a hand and tell me what I am overlooking?
Hey Baran, actually Melodyne already supports ARA with M1 chips! You might have tried it with Logic which indeed doesn’t support ARA yet on the latest Macs. We’re all waiting for Apple to fix this in one of their updates.
When u moved the note up but then the Formant down what is the reason to move the note up? And the formant down? Why not the note and formant both to the lower spot? Why separate them like that? At 4:30-5min
The singer should be doing what is desired so there is a true performance with FEELING! This artificial performance sounds cold. Think about the live recordings on all the albums done by Led Zeppelin back in the days. They had all kinds of character with very deep feeling. There are so many examples that could be made from so many different kinds of music to show this from so many singers. I want the human feeling and character that comes from the heart!
These videos are so great at explaining the features of Melodyne. Thank you!
I agree that Rich's tutorials are great. But are you able to replicate what he does?

Wow! I look forward to trying these techniques. Thanks.
The most amazing episode of all so far. Thank you for giving us cool tips
Love the way when he say "and you get" hahah such an expectation moment hahaha thanks for the tutorial
You are an excellent teacher!
the restore feature is a life saver, brilliant idea.
Very impressive lesson. Learned a lot, thank you!!
Amazing explanation. A pleasure to watch.. Thank you
Just upgraded to 5 - these are awesome videos thanks, Rich !!!
Great video 🙏

Thanks for this video. Its very helpful. One extra thing i'd like to know is, how do you slow down vibrato on a vocal track?
There’s currently no dedicated vibrato speed tool in Melodyne, we’re afraid.
@@celemony This would be great feature. Hopefully they may consider adding this feature in the near future.
Hello Ankl its me AZZA Thank you so much for best lessons and if you teach us how to make (Vibrato and Creshendo)
Great
Can I please ask how to bring up the gold lines ?
Dam good video ! ❤
Great videos, thank you. Is there one which deals with a vocal track which becomes distorted after pitch correction?
Hey Mary, if you experience these kind of artefacts, then very likely this isn’t a clean and dry recording. Any room ambience or mic spill might introduce artefacts in the melodic algorithm. Hi Celemony are all the transitions in the Assistant version?
Yes, they are. 🙂

Melodyne already comes with automatic formant correction, so you don’t need to do any math. 😉

Once Melodyne has been added to the vocal, can you re-sing a line that needs fixing? If so, how is this accomplished?

The Pitch Transition lines only appear when you have the Pitch tool selected. This is what Rich explains around 3:43. Does this help?
@@celemony Thank you for responding. Closing and re-opening the file solved the issue.
This is completely out of context but when will Melodyne release an update to make ARA compatible with M1 chips!?
Hey Baran, actually Melodyne already supports ARA with M1 chips! You might have tried it with Logic which indeed doesn’t support ARA yet on the latest Macs. We’re all waiting for Apple to fix this in one of their updates.
When u moved the note up but then the Formant down what is the reason to move the note up? And the formant down? Why not the note and formant both to the lower spot? Why separate them like that? At 4:30-5min
Moving the note up (or down) will change the pitch, shifting the formants will change the overtone spectrum.
How do you add transition line if there isn't one in between 2 notes?

shout out to tom sequra for these melodyne tricks
Im not seeing gold Tansition Bars in M5 Editor
