Melodyne • Creating harmonies from single vocal tracks

  • In this video, Rich shows how to create realistic harmony vocals in Melodyne when only a lead vocal is present. He advises on the early steps of using Melodyne to capture the key and chord information and create key and chord tracks, which makes creating quality harmonies even easier and more musical. He then illustrates the ease of copying and pasting notes, as well as using the various backgrounds to make it easy to experiment with harmonies. Next Rich uses the various editing tools such as the Modulation, Amplitude, Formant, Timing, Attack Speed, and Time Handle tools to add texture and character to the newly created background vocals. Finally, he demonstrates the processing flexibility of duplicating tracks first and creating separate harmonies in there using Invert Note Selection.

    Thanks for the superb tutorial. I really like the conciseness...no rambling, just great info. Not only do you offer the technical stuff with clarity but include the genius of how to be creative with the tools in program. I no longer see Melodyne as an aid in audio production; I see it an an an indispensable tool. Again, thank you sooooo much.

    I can see this being a useful tool for auditioning harmonies (I'm actually going to try this out tonight). That being said, once you've found what you want, why not "humanize" the harmony by actually singing the harmony? Mute the lead vox, sing along with the robot, then delete the robot. Maybe this doesn't apply to pop, but in the age of digital recording I want to preserve as much soul in my music as I can.

    • @celemony
      @celemony  2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Yes, you can absolutely do this and use Melodyne as a composition or arrangement tool only. Or you mix the Melodyne version with real recorded harmony vocals. Lots of choices. 🙂

    First time I used Melodyne we discovered we could use Melodyne to re-work vocal melodies and worn-out harmonies. Once that's all sorted out, my artist can ding the new lines, and if they can't hit the changed lines, that's okay, cos I've still got the Melodyned lines 😁

    Hello David.
    First of all, thank you for the great tips you have already given me. They have helped me many times.
    But this tip was particularly helpful because I often work with polyphonic melodies and only have one recorded voice available. I learned a lot. The editing of how I can make the voices sound different is wonderful. Also I never realized, that i can turn notes oon an off. WOW!
    Nevertheless, I much prefer to work with separate tracks, as this gives me the opportunity in the DAW to edit the background tracks more individually with effects, etc. (make them quieter, switch them on and off, PAN, etc.)
    Best regards
    Helmut
