  • Plastering by the professionals.
Two-coat stucco system, traditional repairs for DIYers.
Stucco thickness how thick can you apply it?
This work involves applying the stucco and leaving it alone so that you don't break the stucco packs. Usually, only advanced masters can do this on the same day. No, I'm not trying to toot my horn.
98 percent of all folks should apply a few coats on different days, or the dropouts out will be often.
For immediate bids, send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below.
    www.StuccoPlas... Kirk’s website.
    www.GiordanoPl... Jason’s Website.
Hello, my DIY homeowners, young apprentices, and even seasoned journeymen plasterers.
Watch and learn how we stucco professionals show how to spread or apply back-to-back coats of stucco on the same day or simultaneously.
Key Tip, the stucco lath can’t be too tight. It must be attached normally so the stucco has something to grip.
We have no secrets in stucco applications, just learned common sense.
Oaky, since this wall is double the average stucco thickness.
For any stucco applied more than one inch, gravity dictates that gravity will do the rest if more than an inch is applied.
    • Foundation repairs on ... How to apply stucco six inches thick.
So if you’re working around the other side of the house, we might hear that familiar sound, like cows craping on flat rocks.
Allow me to explain to all why this can not happen.
Common sense says the first coat should be accelerated stucco or sticky hot mud mix engineered to set fast. Now take the paper. The paper will assist me by sucking the moister out of the new plaster.
This action helps to set that all-important first coat.
With same-day stuccos, apply or trowel it on, then allow it to set. Don’t play with it or over-trowel it. Why? Perhaps many folks won’t understand.
If you continue to trowel or mess with it, you will “BREAK THE PACKS,” don’t do that!
Give the stucco at least 15 minutes to a half-hour before applying the next coat, or most will slide off.
So do not over-trowel any same-day cement materials.
This great truth is that 90 percent of even professional plasterers “Do not understand!”
Learn to know when to stop playing, troweling, and darbying the newly applied stucco.
Simply allow it to just set!
We make it look as natural as white rice. But the truth is you are not supposed to do what you witness in this video. For us, it’s just another day at the office.
    I spread three cement coats, roughly about 5 to 7 wheel barrels of stucco, on this one stretch;
The key to achieving this is to have the correct number of accelerators in each wheel barrel of mud.
Did you folks know that when you apply the first coat, if it’s in the sun that heats up the paper, the paper absorbs the water from the stucco extremely fast, setting the first coat quickly.

This is so helpful to see. My siding is like this, top stucco is the old 70's speckled rock and glass-chips stucco, then wood on the bottom. I had the wood torn out. Now I have to fill in the bottom with stucco. The top I was told to pressure wash it before I add new mortar to cover it. Does it really matter? All the siding will be one fluent and smooth texture of stucco from top to bottom. I was told that the top and bottom will show a distinction with the old stucco on the top and the fresh stucco on the bottom because of the different absorption. I plan on painting all the siding white after it's all dried. Any thoughts or suggestions? I want this to go smoothly and this is in southern sunny Alberta Canada so here by September/October the temps will be from 20's Celciuls dropping down to 12 C on some cooler days by that time. Any thoughts or suggestions?

@@therenaissancewoman2080 Your guy is correct, stucco won’t adhere to any substrate that’s not clean enough to eat off. As far as it all blending in well, depends on who’s applying the stucco. We could blend it all in thus if we can others can too.

I've purchased a house built circa 1910. aluminum over lap siding with plaster interior walls. some walls have bead board. several rooms have horizonal and/or vertical cracks. sine have cracks in the corners. how can I tell if this is a serious problem or normal cracks that just needs patching? I know this is hard without actually seeing it. maybe I could get a few pics or short video for you if needed. or you can tell me just hire a "professional" in my area. lol. Love your vids and looking forward to more. take care and GOD BLESS you and yours.

How would you repair a stucco finish that has been painted over the years and has shiners in it where paint and finish were scraped off in the past. It is a tudor style home with stucco inset between trims. I figure based on what I have watched,,,, remove loose stuff (there is not much), apply glue, apply skim coat of stucco 3/8" and use green trowel to finish? Can you give more detail dos and donts?

Take a grinder to it and scratch as much of the paint as possible.
If you do try it make sure you wet the area before applying the glue. You can also mix portland cement and water into a paint like consistency and brush it on. Just make sure you wet the area first. Or take a grinder and make little "X" marks throughout the area, not too deep just score it lightly.

Kirk G you are the man! You have given the world a great gift of sharing your talent and knowledge and passion for quality plastering. I have spent may hours watching your videos and they gave me the confidence I needed to do some of my own stucco work. Not a big job but two brick piers in the front of the house so very visible. Well they turned out pretty good even after doing a hand thrown dash coat just like Uncle G. taught me. Thanks so much for your videos and your style. I love watching your channel. Nobody out there has the confidence and know-how to share what some would consider "trade secrets". Thanks again, YOU ROCK!

Some of your other videos suggest / show using Weld-Crete along the mated edges and the pre-existing stucco wall surface. Why not here?

Good afternoon Mark, we double lath the top, thus possibly avoiding a hairline crack. Plus, not all the bonding agents we use are blue. Some are white, which don't show when dry.
Such as Quikrete bonding agent I sometimes purchase when at home depot.
This video was about a three-coat same day system, not the double top lath or use of a bonding agent.
