  • Repair wood rot then re-stucco.
Below are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.
    www.stuccoplastering.com/tools/
Live long and plaster hats, shirts, and other cool stuff. www.livelongandplaster.com/
    Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.
We explain how to remove damaged stucco over rotted existing wood lath, then repair the stucco for structural integrity.
Stucco preservation and stucco structural longevity, keep the cracks in your stucco walls caulked!
Howdy all, in this video, explained stucco preservation and stucco structural longevity.
How would one achieve this? Excellent question; glad you asked.
Keep all the cracks in your stucco walls caulked and paint at least every ten to fifteen years. Then, or whenever common sense dictates, you notice cracks after storms that were not there before.
If this simple but ignored maintenance is routinely done, you will never have to remove and repair stucco.
Soooo, we removed the necessary stucco, attached two layers of 60-minute paper to the studs, reattached the old cedar wood lath, then stuccoed the entire lower area under the stucco belly band.
By the way, this old Cearder wood lath was standard from 1890 to about 1920; if maintained, it lasts forever.
The owner asked my opinion of this wall.
I said in my experience that the stucco below the belly band should also be replaced.
However, to determine this, some exploration was necessary to see the extent of the damage.
We pulled off the rotted belly band and found the stucco placed over the old cedar lath to be damaged.

Thank you all for watching, and wishing all a great day!

@@StuccoPlastering Hello Giodano's! Thank you for sharing the knowledge and the love. I may have found an exception to your search rule. I don't think you folks have covered a Bini dome/shell or inflatable air form work as yet. :)
My wife and I are considering this process, but doing things backwards. Normally work is done inside the air form. We would do it outside, first spraying stucco on the air form, setting (preferably) a fabric mesh into that while wet. That is sealed in by more stucco and topped with several inches of expanding insulation foam. Rebar is set on the foam and concrete exterior sprayed into place. Deflate the air form and decorate to suit. Our interior walls would be as smooth as the air form.
Any notions on spraying stucco before mesh and sealing it all back in with more stucco?
We will certainly documnet our work here on TH-cam when it happens (maybe couple years from now).
May you all live long and plaster!

I never had anything to do with stucco but I actually enjoy watching you work, a lot of neat info and cool stories. But now I have an actual question, my house has a 4 sided cinder block wall shed with a gabled roof. THe gabled ends is covered with plywood siding, so basically there is a plywood triangle formed from the top of the block wall and the rafters/roof line. Can I put paper over and lath over the plywood section, and apply stucco over the entire wall? I am thinking I can overlap the paper and lath over the block a couple of inches and build up the stucco (about 1") so it looks like all one even stucco wall.

Good evening Roblox, excellent question. Yes, additives make stucco stronger.
I've used many materials cement plasters with additives from reinforced fiberglass mesh, perlite, lime, volcanic glass, cork, as well as 20 other different additives. 🤔
In days gone past in the UK and here, folks have added hair from pigs, horses, and of course people with about once more 20 other different substances. Some seem natural to those that appear demonic. That's life.
th-cam.com/video/hgoNmPCVUpw/w-d-xo.html/Stucco/Plastering with fiberglass reinforced mesh, stucco/Plaster additives to make stucco stronger.
I, as a rule, buy my bags premixed with common and lime plaster. I then add three times the sand to each 94-pound bag of cement plaster.
As far as colors are concerned, about ten major cement companies worldwide sell finish coat bags with either white or grey sand. In these 94 pound bags, you add colors too.

Good evening Angel, excellent question. No doubt, you will hate my answer. I have rarely worn face masks for mixing, tearing off stucco, or repairing mold in homes.
Why am I not dead? Not sure myself.🤷
As the silica dust from cutting stucco or breaking concrete and or stucco is toxic, it's agreed that once it's inhaled, it blocks the lungs and does permanent damage.
In fact, I often tell many folks this great truth.
I have just started wearing face masks as my son Jason who is far more educated than me, insists I wear them, and now because of Corona, I wear them when outside, not because of fear, but instead to show respect to the ones I may get in contact with. 😉

Excellent question, my friend. Even though I answered it in the video, I'll answer it again.
I didn't want to just cover wood rot here and there as rot is like cancer. It spreads, so we took the long route and added 4 hours to our day and removed it all, then added the paper and attached the good wood back, Yes I would have saved at least 4 hours by tucking the new paper under the top existing and attaching stucco netting over then plastering, but that's the kind of fix that shameless or lazy folks do.🍻
Plus, when this home goes for sale, the inspector will look at our new work and notice we did it properly, not covered wood rot.

Many times you get blamed for a poor job cause the customer won't spend the the money to do it right. That window sill needs some work.

Good evening Russel, I, as a rule, give all my opinion. I said someone had pulled a fast one, as the stuccoed wood under the window had been tampered with.
I could see that the bump-out was not original, as the wood sill should have been embedded. I try not to sell folks stuff they don't want. Most don't want explorations unless it's absolutely unnecessary.😉
I personally didn't see any reason to explore what someone had done in the past, above our work, as there was no indication that it was compromised.

Evening Burrito dude, no using up excess energy, we were working on three sides at once, it was hot as hell, my brother Looooo was little help as his foot was still hurting, and there were plants in our way.
Had I been on the ball, I would have taken a shovel and moved the three plants that cost us about two hours that we saved as they were newly planted and in our way.
We were lucky to get out of there alive on that day.🍻

You think the stucco will stick to that wood 🤔

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello Roman, excellent question. We cleaned the wood and coated it with "weld-create" this is a bonding agent as nothing sticks to a dusty surface.
      Plus, this wood is keyed.
