She is a test for us, just as Jesus was. The controversy surrounding her canonization is an example of ‘the division between those whose first love is God, and those whose first love is self.’ Teresa lived to serve. To serve is to love. You miss the point. She recognised that it was God within her that enabled her to see Christ in the suffering poor. She did not see herself as only the 'bride of Christ' but that of Christ crucified. She did not seek suffering as an end in itself. She sought the Christ of Calvary. The spiritual life is expressed as a deep desire for God. It is dark because it may never be satisfied before the beautific vision. From John the Evangelist to the Desert Fathers, from John of the Cross to Thomas Merton, the desire for closeness to God is expressed as a sense of loss at what is incomplete in our present reality. The holier you are, the more the unquenchable desire. The more you begin to realise, the God in you is beyond time and space. Spiritual masters call it the unitive aspect of the spiritual life, along with the purgative and illuminative. Its essence is brought to bear in these words of Christ, "Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani" "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?" Do you not hear these same words spoken through Mother Teresa?

Mother Theresa had those doubtful thoughts and was never fulfilled or felt it may all have been in vain because she was not born again. She was trying to "work" her way to heaven and "work" her way to gain God's approval but the Bible is clear about what God thinks of our works towards salvation. We are not saved by our works, we are saved by grace and grace alone lest any man should boast.
You cannot be born again, suffering, and doubt are part of life. Being saved is up to God, not on what you do or say or believe.
