I can’t pay this price for LCD at 60hz. They must update it with at lest mini-led if not tandem Oled and 120hz if not 240hz and thunderbolt 5 and hdmi 2.1 as all the new macs now have these ports and the new mac studio as well will have these same ports that can run high refresh rates than just 60. The A13 chip for siri need to be updated as well so siri can be smart with AI. Finally the camera must be updated or at least remove it.
the fan is running at all times, but it is VERY quiet. you can only hear it if you put your ear directly over the top vent holes. with your face you'll feel a slight breeze as well.
The ASD was released alongside the M2 Mac Studio. The Pro Display XDR was released alongside the last Intel Based Mac Pro. It would just make sense to update the two Displays (and hopefully introduce a third one standing in the middle) with the M4 Mac Studio and Mac Pro versions expected next year. I pray for a 32” 120hz thunderbolt 5 ASD.
The reason why you don't find "designer" monitors from other brands, is because you are looking the wrong place. There are several categories of displays. Gaming, video color grading, photo editing and office, are the main ones. If you look at office monitors, you'll find many "designer" monitors. But they are not the ones you find, when you look up monitors, because the "hype" market for these are not big. They are mainly sold to offices. Any other manufacturer of displays, have a high competition, and releases a bunch of monitors, every year. The market for a Mac aluminium display, is very small. Those customers who want one, would buy an Apple anyway. Therefore, they don't bother. The Studio Display is sold as an all-rounder. And it is an al-round great monitor, with great design, and a hefty price. I'd even go as far as calling it an office monitor, because of the features, and who are obviously buying these. 4:42 While the monitor is very good, it doesn't excel in any particular area, when it comes to the picture. There are better photo monitors, better gaming monitors, and better color grading monitors out there. Professionals can find better options, for less money.
The air vents are real. Apple put the power supply into the case and there are 2 fans that can vent heat from the power supply, if needed. But it happens only when it gets hot (they usually don't turn on).
I'm happily using an Alogic Clarity 27" 4K display. The design is based on the Apple Studio Display. It has a nice solid aluminium minimalist stand, glossy glass screen and bezels similar to the Studio Display. I haven't notice any scaling issues, with crisp clean text and images. It's 4K, so i'm sure if I sat it side-by-side with the Studio Display i'd see the difference, but that's unlikely to happen. It cost $450 Australian (normally $899), compared to $2,400 for the base model Studio Display. Would I love a Studio Display? Sure, if I win the lottery.
In the UK we login to the Apple Store via UNiDAYS and the discounts should appear automatically - if you search for Apple on the app there should be a link that directs you to the student discount website
while i like mac products, i always feel they half cut a product.. barr a couple of them.. this video answered the hz issue and why a more higher number wouldnt work. & yes they tend to add software mods, but the price of this isnt worth a grand plus.. i'd say its worth 800 quid maybe.. The fan issue they could have put those on the back.
I agree with pretty everything you said there. I don’t think you can really rationalise buying a Studio Display, other than saying “I want one and I’m going to get one” (and I imagine Apple fully know this)
They've done their investigating when it comes to competitive markets. Your video helped answer that 60hz question a lot probably wondered why they didn't use stand 100-120hz. Have been looking for a screen of some sort, thats thing but good technicals to it, plus for pc and console to route through. ive seen some do it with this, but i cant see it being enough on the refresh rate..
@@sukhdeepsm ideal monitor ive been looking for does xbox series x midrange hz quality, 4k, low power support, because electrics become expensive lately. to also run as an external for macmini/macbook, and lastly midrange mini pc for AA games. not interested in triple a ones yet..
to be honest I'm fine with 60 Hz but they could have made 120 Hz work if they REALLY wanted to. in the past they've come up with solutions to problems like that. like dual link (2 dvi connections) to run the 30" Cinema Display in 2004. coulda made dual thunderbolt or some crazy shit.
$1600 price tag is none starter. Are they kidding? And it is getting long on the tooth. 60hz? USB 3.2 hub? No OLED at that price? It's like trashcan MacPro.
Hey Sukhdeep, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, currently I'm looking for more works, would you love to have a logo to help your audiences easier to find and follow your useful tech review contents, as the loyalty building trademark symbol surrounding your works and as the proud image to print on your merchs too? I would love to help you create a monogram logo inspired by your passions for you! Let me know if you interested to make it happen! 🙂
Hey Johnny thanks for the message. I’m not currently looking for any graphic design / logo changes, but do you have an email / website I can contact you through if I ever do? Maybe hit me up on Twitter (@sukhdeep_s_m) or Instagram (@sukhdeepsreels) if you get the chance. Appreciate you reaching out :)
You can hold control to dim the second monitor's brightness
Had no clue that was possible - thank you for sharing that!
how did i not realise this...
This why some remarks are just ACE !! 👏🏾
🤯
First honest review i've seen on TH-cam in ages.
Thank you for the kind words, that means a lot!

I rarely comment or subscribe to channels, but this video truly deserves it. Great video and an excellent review- keep up the amazing work!

I wish they would upgrade the studio display (now that they have updated the Mac Mini.)
I’m hoping they do too - especially with the higher end Mac Minis now supporting thunderbolt 5, 120hz should be feasible with future updates.
Is that an iPhone 4 in the background at 8:05?
It is indeed - good spot 👀
Well done, very well presented and very helpful , I am having one , as the Mac 27 inch is no longer available 🙏🏽
bought one and worth every penny - great integration that no other monitor can deliver on
I stick an air filter in the bottom for the air intake and after a year it’s full with dust, really recommended because the display can’t be opened
what kind of air filter?
@ a normal air vent filter

32’ with 120Hz would be the dream 👌

Ah, makes sense. Yeah I’ve never heard them turn on before, but good to know they exist just in case
There are other retina displays. Samsung s9 5k, dell 6k are retina. 04:00
That’s probably why he said that it “remains ONE OF the only” and not “is THE only”

Thank you from across the pond. Good info. I did not think about the black colour values.
Yeah it's not something that immediately comes to mind but is noticeable for me. Glad you liked the video!

How to connect a wireless mouse without a usb-A?
Via Bluetooth in the setting app if your mouse supports it (presuming it will)

Why are you saying dollars?
What most of my audience will be familiar with
This monitor is not worth the price right now with so many options available.
