17 minutes is not enough. Can we get a whole Hard Knocks style show on hockey? Do a whole series of episodes on this team. And then do others on hockey in other nontraditional countries. I can't be the only one who wants to see that.
Derfinitely agreed. It'd also be interesting to see the levels of 'non-traditional', Japan isn't 'traditional' but there's a lot more support for hockey there compared to say India, but India actually has a pretty long tradition of ice hockey in one region.
@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 yeah, Japan at least has some cold areas. It makes the game way more accessible. Ice hockey is pretty big on Hokkaido and northern Honshu. Indian hockey is mostly played in the northern mountain region where it gets plenty cold. And with S. Korea, the climate isn’t much different than my home State of Michigan. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Argentina has a pretty big hockey following, it would make sense given the climate.
this is honestly the story of the year for the hockey world. so happy to know that this sport is meaning so much to people in countries that you'd think had hardly even heard of it.
I shed a tear every time i watch this. The looks on their faces seeing the cup. The rink. Pictures of crosbys jersey. Then when him and mckinnon walked in room was a moment time stood still for me. For all the shootings. Tragic weather. Terrible losses of life. We still believe in this beautiful gift of life. And this moment is one of many examples why. Sharing a love of a game with breathing souls like ourselves. Cheers to tims. Sid. Nsthan. Team kenya. God bless for this.
I’m fired up, I’m a teacher and former hockey player from Minnesota !! I wanna come down in my summers and coach theses guys!!! What a dream and what a movement sign me up Timmy !!!
Watching their eyes light up when they saw the Stanley Cup was truly moving ... that's what I call passion. I love these guys, hope they brought back some of our maple syrup for the nice lady. LOL
It's a blessing, we need more Tim Hortons in the world as Kenyan, I hope Tim Horton won't let the seed which they planted to wither away, God bless you Tim Horton, God bless Canada, God bless Kenya!
I'm really crying. My coach in high school told me that the most wins will come from the players from the most heart, those with big dreams and imagination can go anywhere and do anything. He was a great mentor and friend who i lost to cancer in 2014. Ben reminds me of the kind of gratitude that i had for my coach, showing me the ropes and pushing me hard in something i really believed in. That support system is SO IMPORTANT and it will make you go far.
Always find myself coming back to this. Their love for the game is contagious and brings such a huge smile to my face seeing the impact hockey has on people worldwide. Go Ice Lions!
I have no idea why I found this just now, but for me sports have been the key to bring people together with happiness and joy, but also dedication and hard work. Our Finnish national team is called Lions (=Leijonat) and this hit deep just with their passion and exitement. They seem so honest, hard working pillars of their community that anyone can learn something from that.
Considering the limited resources these guys have had up to the point of when this experience happened. The Skill set and talent they showed in the game is quite impressive.
First you get me hooked with your coffee, then you make me shed tears of joy. Well played Tim Horton’s. Well played. ...., Well played Ice Lions of Kenya.
They say in Kenya what we say in the US and Canada, and everywhere. "I play because it is beautiful" And "I see this ice hockey and I dream someday I corps move like that" How wonderful?! Thank you Tim Hortons and CCM! I would buy an Ice Lions sweater in a heartbeat!!
Our great game, one of our great staples in Tims, a country you would never think of having been impacted by our great game. That's a Canadian feel good story if i've ever seen one! It literally doesn't matter where you come from, when you come up and see that cup up close for the first time. It makes your eyes glisten! Love our game, love the story! Great job Tim Hortons! Props to Sid and Nate for being all over it and visibly enjoying themselves doing this! Studs!
What a video! I want their jersey. I hope they took the goalie gear with them. Some very good skaters in the kid's team. They definetly deserved the trip, the pioneers.
Watched this when it came out, watching in September 2024 again after hearing the news. CONGRATULATIONS on achieving IIHF partner status!!! Keep dreaming, keep working hard. The greatest buildings start with the best foundations.
As an aside, that would have been quite the experience for the other team from Toronto. Not just being part of the overall experience, but also being on the same sheet of ice and playing a game with Crosby and MacKinnon must have been an incredible experience for them as well!
Anna Roberts probably won’t happen. But these guys are pioneers of Kenya hockey. The new generation will teach to the next new generation, and it keeps going....until one day,
How could anybody put a thumbs down, this is an amazing inspirational story. The people putting a thumbs down must just be nasty and negative by their nature.
Theyre not bad! For a hockey system based off of just watching highlights on youtube and figuring it out for themselves, its surprising to see their skills. Everyone here in canada learns from someone first hand but these guys learned for themselves amd thats awesome!
Tim Hortons, Sidney and Nathan gave these Kenyan guys happiness and spirit! Simple guys from Kenya who have chosen hockey arouse great admiration and respect. Good luck and prosperity to them. One day there will be a national team of Kenya and many ice rinks in this country, and not just one like now. Hockey unite peoples and countries !!!
This is great but Tim Hortons has gotten millions in free advertising and has donated ZERO to the Lions Go Fund Me for their league. They are trying to raise $250,000 to get a permanent league going in Kenya. Tim Hortons should step up and donate that money! Thumbs up if you agree please. Also tweet them too. It's a great story but all that free advertising should be worth 250K at least. Come on Tims!
Buddy. That's not how companys work. Do you think Tims has 250,000$ just lying around. You know company use money to survive right??? They did so much to help them, they started the go fund me page. If they didn't do that then they wouldn't have had 250k. Don't be looking for more because they already gave them the world.
@@lukebowlby3848 Lol, Tims benifited millions from this in free publicity. Don't be a fool. Also they have way more than 250K laying around. When they were last publicly traded they had 110 million is cash reserves. That would be a lot more now.
This is the coolest thing ever and one of a million reasons why I love hockey. But where can we buy some Ice Lions jerseys? Maybe proceeds could go back to Kenya to help fund the youth league there?
Even a year and a half after this story came out, I still love it very much! Hopefully they can go to the next Winter Olympics in 2022 in Beijing! (well who knows thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and that this Summer Olympics in Tokyo got axed because of this too)
Kenya just voted in as a IIHF member :)
I saw ❤❤❤
As a 54 year old hockey addict, I dream of the day I watch Kenya in the Olympics.
Qualification
you re going to die first sorry !
I think you may see that dream become a reality!!!!!!
Hope you are still watching :))
well they joined the IIHF today, next olympics
Crosby giving the guy props on his impressive skating! Watch out for Kenya in 10 - 20 years!
Dude, I hope so. I honestly hope this video just sparks something like a program being put in place in Kenya, just test who knows right?
Kenya will do well to regularly ice a national team in 10- 20 years...
10 years no way . the don t have Arenas Hockey association Coaches etc.... it takes a lot of money
@@choosenone2die They do now, mostly Canadian coaches.
you mean 100 years

The jerseys are quite nice. The name is cool too

contact tim hortons.
twitter.com/ken_icehockey?lang=en tweet to them?
Just out of interest, did you manage to contact them and send them the equipment?
They have a Twitter and Instagram page, Kenya ice lions, in the shorter version of the video, there is a gofundme page linked in the comments

Lots of emotions watching this hockey is the greatest sport it saved me from the streets! So happy for these boys from Kenya!
The love of the game is universal. ❤ We're so glad to hear that hockey has had a great impact in your life as well!
I watched the video and was happy for these guys. Tim Hortons, thanks for the good deed! You gave these guys from Kenya a dream!
This is easily one of the best hockey videos on TH-cam IMO.
incredible...thank you tim Hortons so proud of you doing that

Well played Ice Lions of Kenya.
Tim Hortons probably already sells Kenyan coffee, but what about one known as the official blend of the Ice Lions?
The point about the hockey moms hits some so hard. God bless those parents who care so much, who sacrifice so much

It's hard to stop yourself from tearing up watching this! I totally love this! Thanks for uploading this video!
The mom that eats ands sleeps in her car just so her son can play hockey made me cry THAT IS LOVE! Damn good momma!
The SOUND credit is missing my name. I was second unit on location sound when the Ice Lions faced the Mississauga hockey team.
This is so awesome. 😭🙌
