Name all of the fires over the years where our fire departments actually saved buildings, especially historic ones.
Me and my siblings all have so many memories of the Pier, my brother and sisters just drove down and walked on the pier, while visiting our 93 year old aunt, she has lived in Oceanside since the 80’s.
Thank you. Excellent effort of all First Responders. Walked pier almost everyday . Beautiful area.

I'm amazed the fire department had a hose long enough to reach all the way up from coast hw at the top all the way down to the pier

Lots of 50 to 100 foot lengths attached together. The pumps on the engines can supply water and pressure to reach the fire. Also the pier has piping for the fire department to use and add pressure to it.

I have watched over the past year as crews extended a new fire water service to the end of the pier to serve the restaurant space. This somewhat begs the question, was the fire-line not charged and / or were the fire sprinklers within the structure not charged? If the fire sprinklers had been operational, they may have suppressed the fire at its origin. This could have been just a case of extremely bad timing. 😩
Our Fire departments are getting much better at conserving water by simply letting things burn. In other Orange County news, fire departments countywide are requesting bigger and better fire stations, as some currently do not have Volleyball Courts, Pickleball Courts or storage room for a sufficient number of Lazy Boy “spare chairs” in the event of a breakages.
I went to that Rubys 20 years ago .. and it’s a very specific special memory 😢., sad to see it burn like that.
Beings that it looked like the fire was at the front of the pier with the restaurant downwind from the fire ...? How did the fire start? And where? No real information.
The next U.S. Coastguard Boat is rumored to have a new powerful water canon cable of shooting water over 30 feet into the air and is expected to placed in service in early 2029, baring any delays.

How can you not know the structure of the pier??? A building was permitted to be constructed on the end of it. Very sad situation.
That is not what the fire chief is saying. They do not know the CURRENT structural condition of the pier, an engineer has not yet inspected. The fire is not yet fully contained and it would be unsafe to do any kind of evaluation until it's fully contained.
Oceanside? I Thought Ruby's was on Huntington Beach pier.

@velvetpixiecake5310 me personally ...when ruby's was open years ago I tried to visit and it was temporarily closed...had a sign posted saying " closed electrical issues ".

where are the multi million dollar fire fighting boats coming out of the LA/southbay area...if it has been raging for this long that's more than enough time for the fire crews over there to make it to Oceanside to help out...clearly these fire fighting boat crews they have don't have enough training nor the pump capacity to handle this. Time and again we see that all they do is spray the ocean instead of the structure itself.
The boats used by the Oceanside Life Guards and USCG are multi-use vessels with firefighting equipment that's made for fighting small boat fires. They were easily outclassed by the scale of the pier fire. The small boat crews performed well and worked together to stop the spread of the fire and contain it to the end of the pier. I was on the water yesterday and the level of communication and cooperation over VHF 16 was impressive.
Getting a large fire boat down from LA would have taken 4-6 hours and it wouldn't have arrived in time to make a meaningful difference to the outcome. Either way, the building was toast.

Correction Ruby's Diner wasn't in business, but the Kitchen and Restrooms were still being used by the neighboring food shack called the Brine Box, and there had been remodeling work going in in there as well. Somebody knows something and needs to come forward. Arson is being ruled out though. Still seems sus.overall.
Even under those circumstances, Fire sprinklers should have been charged up given the scenario. It's on a wooden pier.
