Learning someone’s language when visiting that country/state, shows willingness to assimilate and not expecting the residing population to speak the VISITOR’S language! Would YOU expect an Italian or German to accommodate you in YOUR language if you visited? Learning even basic phrases definitely gets you better service and willingness from the host country to at least concede that you are trying! So yea, it does make you a better person by being CONSIDERATE! I barely make myself understood in France an Spain, but I always study intermediate courses on YT 10 days before I go, so at least I can make small conversations! I speak Kiswahili, Gujarati, Hindi, English and Italian fluently- because I love the places it’s spoken in, and I am able to have full conversations with people! To have a false notion that languages don’t make you better or worse is utter fallacy and to be honest, a copout!

Do you say people with learning disabilities are cursed because they can’t learn other people’s languages?
